Originally the plan was to not change anything to "preserve the immersion" of the current story. But the devs got considerable backlash over the ending of SP18 (rolling on a corpse) and the whole Liberta/Olivier thing (users said: "Who is REALLY immersed in the current story, it is just the PD?"). That hit him hard, so he decided to change it after all.

Spoiler for new SP18 ending:
Instead of Olivier being 'completely destroyed', only her soul/memories will disappear. Olivier's body will remain and fall into a comatose state. This way she can start a new life and make new memories when she awakens, which also seems to be the basis for what will be her Fated Guest encounter in the future.
The reason why Olivier fell will also be revised (Liberta mindbreaking her with a single word), as they felt this was silly. In the new SP18 ending Liberturd no longer has any influence on Olivier's corruption.

I played Guardian tales for a long time. It's got a lot going for it, but unfortunately something went seriously wrong when season 3 started. Ai slop is everywhere now, and the quality of the story from what I gather is in the shitter. So bad it's been shot down to /vmg/. That being said, the first 2 story seasons are great, there's lots to do for a new player. If you're looking for a game to fill the void for a few months, this is it. I would not recommend season 3 onwards though. The devs have fallen to pieces on this game, and it's terrible now.

TLDR - Maybe Guardian Tales. Check out /vmg/. It's gone to hell now though, but the first 2 seasons + side content are very enjoyable.
