If you save the knight you allow knight captures e4, I didn’t look at a computer but that position looks like a knightmare for white. Queen h4 is just too strong.
>>
>>545177169
It's the default on chess.com so everyone plays it even on lichess

Also if white saves the knight by playing Ne2, you have a tactic with bishop f2 pulling the king away from the queen.

The players in the daily puzzle were cooking. It wad 15+10 too.
>>
>>545173898
The point is that white doesn't have piece development or king safety and is staring down a range of mate threats. Not sacking the knight means even more material losses later or ending the game outright.

So it's best for white to just lose 2 points here and now for the tempo to get things on better squares.
>>
>>545180281
>Why did en croissant add the hq? Very odd.
you probably used some position recognition app (which failed to register that black no longer has any castling rights, which would be noted as kq) and then maybe some OCR to copy the FEN (which changed the kq into hq).

>>
>>545185968
Yes, the chart I originally posted only compared rapid games between 10 and 15 minutes. They are similar enough that length of the game isn't a huge skewing factor.

>>
>>545173235
Why is increment popularity inversely correlated with rating
>>
>>545186671
I don't know, but even in bullet chess all the GM streamers play 1+0 all the time, almost never 1+1.
>>
>>545186671
The better you are the more impact increment has since you need less time to calculate a good move which in turn eliminates most of the urgency of no increment. To good players 3+0 and 3+2 are two different games.
>>
>>545186802
Well I get bullet 1+0 especially with streamers, it's more exciting to watch, but I don't get why rapid increment be inversely correlated with rating
>>
>>545186671
gms are degen flaggers
>>
>>545187406
But why would they want more time scrambles and more flagging? I hear titled streamers complain about flagging being bs all the time
>>
>>545187750
Because that's kinda the point of the shorter formats, otherwise they would play classical
>>
>>545187750
Because flagging is a perfectly legitimate reason to win as long as it never ever happens to me.
>>
>>545188030
I disagree, 10+5 is still way shorter than any classical game and would stop a ton of flagging and titled players complain about flagging all the time, so I don't get why rapid increment is inversely correlated with rating
>>
>>545188919
Have you considered getting good? There's no reason to run out of time in 10+0.

>>
>>545190957

I don't think titled players hate getting flagged more than anyone else. I think what you're referring to is people in a completely lost position trying to flag the other person which can be considered disrespectful. Either way, they clearly don't hate it enough to increase the increment. Speed is part of the skill.

Yeah, I see people in winning positions lose because they get flagged and if they had 5 second increment that would never happen
>Either way, they clearly don't hate it enough to increase the increment.
But why though? 10+5 basically guarantees they'll never get flagged. Speed is a skill but people don't play rapid for speed, there's blitz and bullet
>>

I am 1700 chesscom, but not because I've studied 8 hours a day, rather because I just spend hours a day during my chess periods with the game because I enjoy it. Do puzzles, look over your games, watch people better than you play, share games here or elsewhere for others to help, read a chess book (i have not but I plan on it,) whatever you will enjoy and will help you improve. The analyzing your games is definitely what should give you answers at least though, you can't really complain about losing if you don't know why you're losing.

I have hundreds, if not thoudands, of pictures I've personally taken of my kitties and other kitties I've met. In the past, I also had multiple neighbor cats who would come inside and chill.
This cute little girl, for example, scratched on my door one day after (as I later learned) accidentally getting locked out of her own home. Puzzled at the scratching, I opened the door, and she walked right in, ate some food, got some water, pooped in the litter box, and curled up on my bed like she owned the place.

How come in OTB the increment starts on the clock (in this case, the clocks read 1:30:30) but not in online chess?

>>545249383
I prefer YYYY/MM/DD because it makes filing documents way easier.
>>
>>545249450
no its not, ordering from smallest to largest or largest to smallest is sensible, the only reason there is confusion is because of martsharters inventing their own nonsense which looks too similar to dd/mm/yyyy and muddying the waters
>>
>>545249485
>Why is my lichess rating 600 points higher than my OTB rating?
Firstly, OTB uses Elo while online tends towards Glicko/Glicko 2. Secondly, different player pools and amounts of games played will result in different ratings even using the same ratings system.

Cuckolds running cheat.com must be really scared because on their subreddit /r/chess

>Kramnik is deplatformed from r/Chess until further notice. This includes all tweets, videos, quotes, claims, compilations of his antics, etc. until we have new rules in place. This also includes speculation about possible alt accounts or botnets. With one exception: we will maintain a Kramnik megathread pinned to the “Community Highlights”.

>Claims and debates comparing what happened with Hans to Danya are temporarily prohibited. The mod team acknowledges that these events are important to discuss in the chess community and in this sub. This is not a permanent ban, but a temporary pause. There are many existing threads where the discussions can and should continue; new posts will be removed.

Hopefully cheat.com will be banned in europe.

It's because their entire narrative of the Evil Kramnik is based on the idea Danya offed himself due to him. Comparing Hans to Danya shows that they don't actually care about the extent of the accusations and the damage they do, and they're only hating Kramnik for the aforementioned tragedy. And of course, when you base your hatred on something that is so questionable, it's easy to argue against.

>its not certain Danya killed himself
>its not certain Danya killed himself because of Kramnik
>its not certain Kramnik's actions could be reasonably expected to make Danya kill himself

And so when they hate Kramnik for his accusations, they are setting a standard by which they must also hate many, many other people, which they don't like. I'm not sure whether I worded this very well or not, but what I'm really trying to say is that Danya killing himself does not make what Kramnik did any worse, and when we come to the logical conclusion of looking at the actions, we can come to the conclusion that many chess players are murderers just as much as Kramnik, just not successful ones.

I turn on Stockfish when:

I don't see it as cheating, rather I am doing these third worlders a favor and giving them better chess habits and improving the state of the game overall.

Well, I'd trust their judgement on KINO.
>>
>>545409414

If I was the owner/dictator of FIDE, I'd only allow closed tournaments to be rated if they used a qualification system for at least half of their participants; winners from certain open Swiss tournaments or national championships qualify for these high category round robin tournaments, top finishers of those tournaments qualify for these higher category tournaments, etc.
Besides refreshing the highest category tournaments with new (or second wind) faces, it'd also force the bottom half finishers to do better in the lower category tournaments (or even opens) if they want to make it back to the top tournaments.
Elo won't be used as a qualifier at all, so maybe they'll stop worrying about it except as a dick measuring contest.

Since Leko has the day off tomorrow, would love to see him pop on a broadcast and be like "I'm here to save you all from shit commentary."
He's far too nice for that, of course, but it would be funny. Miss having him in the booth, but so cool to see him at the board in a tournament like this.
>>

Wesley called out Kramnik on twitter so I doubt it.

I mean that'd be true for most universities but he literally went to Stanford, besides people often don't get their jobs that are matches to their degrees anyway so no reason why he couldn't use his uni clout to get a better job. Perfect, they’ll be around the same age. This will be like EXACTLY like the rivalry between Madara vs Hashirama and how their future generations continued the conflict.
>>
>>545455741
Why doesn't egoist work. He is self centered and selfish for both good and bad. I say more egotistical than stoic because I'm thinking the the egoist's way is an alternative to being stoic. In that he believes in himself so hard that such criticisms and controversy is small fry in his mind, so he doesn't care. Like a lion not caring about an ant.
>>
>>545455926
That's interesting but is it because of startups and want for cheap labor? What the hell are happening in the economic centers of the US anyway? Speaking of, where is Hikaru based? LA? What was his day job or how did he make a living before taking off as a big chess personality?
>>
>>545456929
It’s because the cost of living in places like San Francisco is fucking ridiculous, and if you don’t care about social status or being a psychopathic striver you can build a nice, quiet career/life for yourself in plenty of mid-major cities in the US.

I don’t where Hikaru lives now but he lived in St. Louis for a while.

I'm >>545491794 and here's what I did when I was in India:
>drink bottled water only and only from big companies like Bisleri (owned by an Indian conglomeration), Aquafina (owned by PepsiCo), Kinley (owned by Coca-Cola).
>if no access to bottled water, fill up a kettle with water from the tap and boil it a few times at night, then in the morning when it's cool, use it as drinking water or use it to brush your teeth
>ALWAYS check the seal on bottled water in India. Scammers sometimes refill bottles with tap water and re-sell them so you think you're getting water from a PepsiCo company but you're getting dirty tap water
>NEVER eat streetfood. I either ate packaged food or ate food from the hotels I stayed at.
>NEVER eat raw foods like salads. Only eat cooked foods.
>NEVER drink unboiled tap water.
>when you shower at your hotel, run the water for a few minutes before you get under the shower. Bacteria grows in the warm water in the pipes so running the water for a bit washes it out. Don't let the water get into your mouth or nose.

I didn't get sick once following these rules and I was there for 3 months.

There's a world of difference between going to a tv program to get called Down Syndrome for playing chess by people much dumber than you and acting like a GenZ kid for a clothes ad.
The chess part here is irrelevant, they are just using Gukesh and Anand as celebrities in India following a script to sell some clothes.
In the Norwegian tv program Magnus, who here represents chess players, gets casually insulted by normies as a Down Syndrome just for being able to play chess at a high level. It is an insult to the whole chess community that Magnus shouldn't allow. He is promoting the image that if someone goes to a chess club or participates in chess tournaments he must be mentally disabled and it's ok to make fun of him, even though he has probably double the IQ of those insulting him. If Magnus wants to embarrass himself he is free to do so, but here he is embarrassing the whole chess world.

Please fuck off.
>>
>>545522338
>an event that has nothing to do with you
The way I interpret some insults directed at Carlsen in that program is that they would have said the same about any chess player. I am a chess player, therefore it has something to do with me and I care.
Also, most of the stuff discussed here has anything to do with the people discussing them. Is anyone /here/ participating in the FIDE World Cup? No? Then by this argument you are retards and should shut up about it.
>you can't handle being looked down on by people who you perceive to be beneath you (normies) even in jest
Some people have dignity. Dignity means standing up when being looked down unrightfully. Chess is not a game to be ashamed of playing and you shouldn't allow others to belittle you for it. In particular a World Champion who ought to promote the image of chess shouldn't allow it. Is this really an issue of ego? Are you guys fine with being known as Down Syndromes to the rest of the world while playing chess?
>You are the retard
Really? The intelligent thing is to throw away your dignity and eat up every insult thrown at you? Should we really forgo any dicussion about "events that have nothing to do with us" and shut up about them? It really wouldn't have occurred to me that commenting the content of a Carlsen video posted on /chess/ and seething about it was such a wrong thing to do and I should just shut up about it. Also, I think Magnus being touched by a bit of the “tism is why he is so extraordinarily gifted at chess in the first place. No shit, I'm seething about Carlsen allowing himself to get insulted and this isn't an inch about dignity. What else could this be about? Judging by this and your previous responses you seriously lack reading comprehension.
>every insult in the world uttered to a human is an insult against me because a human was just insulted
Insults are mostly about particular negatively perceived characteristics of a person. "Retard" is about someone's lack of intelligence. Every stupid human should feel insulted by this word, yes. "Nigger" is a racial slur which holds negative connotations towards blacks. You don't get called retard for no reason, you get called that because you did something stupid or look stupid. You get called nigger because you are black or you behave like a stereotypical black person would. Insults can tackle many people but they aren't about everyone. They point to some negative characteristic you have but others don't. In Magnus' case, I interpret the insult pointed to his ability to play chess and regarded it as something typical of a person with Down Syndrome. It is not a universal insult, it is a totally unwarranted insult directed towards chess players and Magnus laughed it off as nothing on tv.

Calling him Asperger in a context where they are roasting each other is fine. Regardless of whether Magnus has Asperger's Syndrome, many top chess players do and you could consider it a typical characteristic to expect from a top chess player. Roasting him as Asperger's is justified.
However, calling him a Down Syndrome or a quarter extra chromosome is unwarranted. Asperger's can be mentally retarded or high functioning. Magnus and top chess players would obviously fall on the high functioning side. Down Syndrome doesn't really bring about geniuses like Asperger's can and it is just flat out mental retardation. Downs would have trouble playing chess competitively and anyone who thinks that an autist chess player who can't hold eye contact and a Down Syndrome have anything to do is greatly mistaken.
Magnus Carlsen doesn't look like he has half an extra chromosome and chess players, however autistic they might look, don't neither. If anything it's the normies in that program who are more likely to have a DNA disorder and suggesting that chess players could have Down Syndrome in a higher proportion than the average person would is, in the least, an insult to them and their intelligence.

>Insults can tackle many people but they aren't about everyone.
>No shit. I like how you're explaining my point to me.
You just said if it isn't directed at me it has nothing to do with me even if we share the common characteristic which is the gist of the insult, which implies insults are directed only at the person being insulted. Now you agree that insults can attack multiple people. Which is it? Just the one being insulted or anyone who shares the reason he got insulted?
I understand that in some contexts the specific insult used such as "fat", "ugly", "four-eyed", "idiot" are pronounced just to insult the person in front of you, not really caring about other people with overweight or who wear glasses. But other times, insults such as "nigger" aren't about the specific person in front of them but as a means to insult a whole demographic to which they belong. I argue the "extra quarter chromosome" in this case isn't about a particular trait of Magnus Carlsen, like the "too big head and neck" insult he got later on, but about chess players in general.
>It's a joke directed at Magnus.
Sure, the point of the program is to create fun entertainment, although I think it failed at that. But if the joke is "haha you play chess therefore you Down Syndrome" I think it is no longer insulting Magnus Carlsen for fun, which he is free to denigrate himself as much as he wants, but it is outright insulting the chess community and Magnus shouldn't be laughing at that as a former World Champion.

If I were to insult his face I would him a quasi-Neanderthal. If I were to insult his autistic antics I would call him an Asperger's. But he has NOTHING to do with Down Syndrome. Just go and watch videos of people with Down Syndrome, they all look, speak and behave very awfully similar. To my eyes, they are homogenous as fuck. And Magnus Carlsen doesn't share any of their characteristics. They also are in general deeply mentally retarded, while Magnus is intelectually gifted.
The way I interpret that insult, it is not because of Magnus physical characteristics or behaviour, because he doesn't share shit with Downs, but because he is good at chess, which to the eyes of those normies, ought to be something you have to be mentally or genetically disabled to willingly engage with and spend time on.

>All of us here are chess players, yet you're the only one that chose to be offended.
I think that if people called you Down Syndrome regularly whenever you played chess on public, most chess players would eventually get offended. Magnus is (unconsciously) actively promoting that by laughing off that insult, which in my opinion is very unfit for a chess figure that ought to promote and better the image of chess. We chess players have nothing in common with people with Down Syndrome and I don't think we deserve to be intellectually belittled that way on television.
>which implies insults are directed only at the person being insulted.
>Magnus in this case and you're not him.
I was paraphrashing your statement to bring out the contradiction with its corresponding above green text which agreed that insults could tackle many people. Of course my argument is that this insult is towards all chess players, not just one, be it me or Magnus.
>I am not saying it's mechanically impossible to be offended about an insult that isn't directed at you I am saying it's a choice and a retarded one.
Getting offended is a choice, I agree. And getting offended at a normie's insults is kinda stupid as long as they don't affect your ordinary life, I agree as well.
> Even if I grant you this, so fucking what?
Well, we have what could still be our World Champion promoting that chess players should be thought of as people with Down Syndrome. I really don't want any chess figure that represents my hobby to be promoting that on tv. That's why I'm glad he is no longer our World Champion. Would tennis players be glad if Rafael Nadal went on tv to ridiculize them as unathletic, unhealthy and disabled people that need a wheel chair? Would it be retarded if they publicly complained after those comments? Because this is the equivalent.

Redditor argument. "Why don't you act like everyone else? You act differently, so you must be wrong."

>Yes.
Okay, chess players have Down Syndrome, tennis players use wheelchairs, artists are blind and writers are illiterate. Normies may utter these obviously false insults on the regular but if people complain or feel offended by that they are retards. Somehow, the public discourse must always flow from one side (the liars) while the rest must remain silent and swallow their lies.

> You act differently, so you must be wrong."
You're an outlier consider why outside of the scope of your immediate feelings.
>chess players have Down Syndrome, tennis players use wheelchairs, artists are blind and writers are illiterate.
Based.

Honestly though I had my cat piss in my car once and it took forever to get the smell completely out.
On a side note, what’s with women pissing in cars and shitting in beds to get revenge?

I need to go out and get a coffee or something. My brain is still fuzzy. Or maybe I just have Down Syndrome, because I play chess, and all chess players have that.

The tabby would play sharp, tactical openings while the cowkitty is more of a slow, lumbering positional player.
Tabby wins most games when cow misses a trick.

>Did anyone else ever make a chess-based miniseries?
Some ideas for a modern one (not really mini):
>Contrasting/connecting lives of chess "personalities" (a la botez) and chess professionals
Disparity in wealth, comparisons/dynamics within class (between top 10 and top 200 and top 1000, global or national, similar idea for personalities), "legitimacy," perspectives of each other from each other and the public and important parts of the chess world, costs of fame (obsessive fans, stalkers online and irl), anxieties of losing your audience, having to play into your persona even when you don't feel like it, tons of random normies irl assuming false shit because of random retards' Reddit threads
>Commercialization of chess (chesscom-esque entity)
Not one-dimensional hack shit, entity would be show to do both good and bad
Gets more people genuinely interested in chess, funds and organizes tournaments and broadcasts (scholastic, high profile), adds more money in pro scene, employs people
Literally infinite list of how they can abuse their position with their status, influence and money, dealing with cheating, "competition" with full-featured free alternative

Obviously they aren't separate but just three big general elements: the pros, the personalities, and the company. So much you can do there.
