Savages you basically have 8 weeks to prog, where every week they get easier numerically(but also the players in PF get worse), until you begin to reach functionally their 'easiest, but still-on-patch' difficulty level.Ultimates you have basically their current release patch (4 months) to prog before power creep sets in, with a softer ceiling of the expansion they released in. After that the true original experience is basically out the window entirely.It sucks ass, but it's the way it is. When you have 80 dorfs, losing your Legendary Jeweler to a cave spider is a setback but you can just train up another, and for military purposes you can have ten guys training frequently and doing nothing else. When you have 15 colonists, a pirate decapitating your best crafter is pretty devastating, and you probably don't have the resources to keep a standing combat force so your laborers are almost always getting exposed to the action somehow.
