As a result, there's really no point to the elemental system, which is kinda sad considering it'd have been a good way to add more flavor to the normal enemy encounters, like how having Noelle in the party changed the way you had to strategize around the Chapter 2 enemies.

The point is that the flavor text and interactions are different between the Susie, Ralsei and Noelle acts, leading to different outcomes and making the enemies and party feel like actual characters. Take for example Ambyu-Lance. When Noelle is in the party, you can use Hospitality to automatically raise their Mercy to 100%, by having Noelle act warmly towards them. But if you fight them with Susie and Ralsei, Susie will tell you medicine sucks and to avoid it while Ralsei encourages you to get hit. Susie can also do her shitty UltimateHealing to have them be disgusted by how much it sucks. None of this is required for the battle, but it all adds up to make it feel meaningful. Imagine, for instance, if you could wear the Winglade with Kris to upgrade the Spin act against a Winglade in Chapter 4. Does the battle suck because you can't do that? Not really, but it would have been neat if you could. And it would be even cooler if instead of having to be a specific weapon, it was just you having to equip one out of like 4 different weapons that all have the same effect.
