It really says something to how much utility a tail can give a character when utilised properly, creatively and interestingly. I remember a lot of Infinite's initial concept art gave him something similar with a hand like tail but presented in a more sinister usage and to look more intimidating.

I'm rewatching Sonic OVA and lemme tell ya, I am always blown away by the shots of the Land of Darkness. It invokes such majesty, wonder and intrigued with so little. The concept of two different lands stacked on top of each other is fantastic. And then going into Eggmanland/Robotropolis to see it be ruins of a familiar city is simply mesmerizing. Sonic used to be full of such beauty. I think the OVA is the peak of Sonic in animated form, and it's a shame we never got more of it.
