oh you motherfuckers, listen: steam revenue calculator says trainwiz made 43 fucking grand net from 366 reviews at $19.99. HE is fucking saying that he has fucking netted 300 fucking grand. now use your retarded brain and wonder for yourself for a moment, how in the FUCK, could he possibly net 300 fucking grand off of a review estimation of 43 fucking grand? riddle me that one, retards. we're talking 7 fucking times difference

Okay I think I'm cutting scope here, might not be the great atmospheric lighting that I wanted but I'm too smol brained to figure this out within a reasonable amount of time. I'm simply no Acrolyte dev tier smartness, I just hope the cheap lighting won't ruin it too much but it looks good enough for now. Also I still need to draw the sprites and make code so the lights work as intended.

>Check out Edmund McMillen's new game (Mewgenics)>it's a goddamn SRPGNot what I expected. Why is every game this guy makes in a different genre? I have seen several indies do this, and it's always bad, since they cannot build up an audience and the design outcomes is non-transferrable from one game to the next.
>>545610029I played doom and ZAMN a lot as a kid. So, I definitely would have lived this if it were a ps1 game. I recommend finding what it was that made you fall in love with games and use that.

>>545610720Sex RPG?
>>545610720they hope for the best
>>545610727My favorite games are AAA character action/adventure. Dragon's Dogma, god hand etc. So I quite literally can't make my dream Deep Down game until I have enough success and funds making small games. that dude working on a dream game for 6 years to get 50 reviews? nah, that's not gonna be me.
>>545607972Huh, what games I was a diehard fan...?Contra games, Super Mario World, beat'em ups, Tekken 3. Unfortunatelly most of these were technical marvels when they came out or had a lot of sprites and animations, the juice, to make it really pop. Some of the games already had their spiritual successors done, published, I enjoyed them, found plenty of flaws. I don't think I could improve on the formula. I'm doing the next best thing.
>>545610720Unfortunately that's what makes being indie great. AAA devs have to conform to what stockholders deem profitable. Indies can experiment and try new things That they find fun.
>>545610720>Not what I expected. Why is every game this guy makes in a different genre?with him specifically it's because he doesn't make his games.
>>545610794Strategy RPGs (Fire Emblem-likes). Despite liking turn-based RPGs I tried several SRPGs and just could not get into them. I hate that genre.
>>545604739wow meanwhile I just change my residency to paraguay and the stealing stops at $196k
>>545610903This is good!>>545610915You can still be inspired by those games, but scale down the scope to still make something clever and fun while building up to your dream game, and don't forget, you could have a team of 100 people working with you and still take 6 years for 50 reviews...That's always the risk.
>>545611219Meant for those replies to be switched. My bad.
>>545610720>Why is every game this guy makes in a different genre? He's rich and famous enough to treat gamedev like an art rather than a job.

>>545605989>>545606152>Where's the catch? It's made by bytedance. Now look at capcut which is another product by them, they utterly fucked their entire user base for money greed. There's no way those chinks are going to give up money, they might bait and switch devs promising a 5% cut and then increasing it to 50% out of nowhere, it'll be worse than the gaben tax

A scammer on the v3expo Discord is sending private messages offering a free year of "Claude Code" and "Comet Browser" for game development. They provide a referral link to the Comet Browser, which earns them $3. The scammer then instructs you to log in with your Google account on your mobile device to "sync" your data. This will give them access to your personal information, such as your Gmail and contacts, across multiple devices. I tried telling the owner of the Discord, but he blocked my private messages.

My game is like half-done and I still don't know anything about steam, I don't even have a developer account. Should I start looking into steam now or is it too early? How much work does it even require to integrate my game with steam? I assume I have to bring some kind of steam DLL into my build?

People accept games with all kinds of AI in them EXCEPT the voice AI. Why? It's literally the only thing I used AI for, voice acting. I commissioned the music and did everything the rest by myself. Yet people hate me on me for using AI voice more than an indie dev using AI arts. Why? Is it because people value voice actor more for some reason?
>>545617893Have you thanked your daddy today

How do you tell the difference between "I'm bad and that's why it's bad" and "this shit doesn't work"?I'm working on a control/movement system for my game. It's novel, I haven't seen any game control like I'm imagining it but...It feels like fucking ass right now. It's so fucking slippery and hard to control.idk if it's because I'm bad at programming movement or if it's a bad concept in the first place...
>>545618385>It's novel, I haven't seen any game control like I'm imagining Maybe there's a good reason for that...
>>545618385>"I'm bad and that's why it's bad" and "this shit doesn't work"?You need a wide-enough sample size to tell. Say, you have 100 players total. If 50 don't say anything, and 50 say it's bad, then I'd say it's a skill issue. If only 10 say it's good, and 90 say it's bad, then it's a problem. For real world applications I'd say you need at least a 1000 different players to tell for certain
>>545618385You should have the combat and movement system prototyped completely separate from the rest of your project, with a bunch of sliders and values exposed, so you can play with it and adjust the movement variables in game until it feels right.

Blender will be implementing AI soon, along with most of the major game engines. This will happen as the general public gradually becomes less averse to seeing AI stuff and will be less rewarded for spotting it or calling it out. By this point gamedevs will be rocket launched into new productivity while the AI cultist who spent all his time shitposting and complaining about luddites will basically sit back and say "yeah I told all of them to use AI, I did all of this". This will be his biggest achievement in life is trying to take credit for inevitable technological advances. But the point is he can't compete with gamedevs now and never will, because he spends all his time coping with nogame by bothering productive people who are actually making something.

>>545626375>steam is more reliant on exposureRevenue* The only thing that matters is your game making a milly in a week of its launch, and if it doesn't you're shit out of luck. Somebody post that ugly game with 0 reviews that moistcritical or whoever the fuck played. How many reviews it has now? Probably not a lot. And after the devs 15 minutes of fame expire, his game will be dead again. Because it doesn't bring in a thousand dollars every hour. The only way to bring in the paypig audience that will is by straight up bribing youtubs and streamers to play your game for a week to astroturf it to be the new FOTM, or get lucky with the algorithms but the latter doesn't count.
You absolutely need to make a web build if you haven't. You still have about an hour and it's not that hard to figure out. A lot of people are wary of downloading random files from strangers so you'll get a lot more plays and more feedback on a browser version.

Anyone else notice that every youtube video you watch is so obviously written by AI. Seeing humans speak with the same prose as ChatGPT is fucking sad.But then when you watch a video by a normal person it's just some guy appealing to his own emotions basically self fellating himself on camera verbally. Like did this person even consider the possibility that I might not have the same opinions and feelings about things that he does? It's created an extremely small subset of youtubers I actually enjoy because when they're opinionated and emotion it's about the subject itself and that's what I would called passion, and that's why I enjoy watching them. But the problem is youtube made this memebers only bullshit so now all the good shit is behind locked doors. And that's not even to mention that finding new content that is good is literally fucking impossible because the algorithm is a slop factory. Btw I speak the the prose of a 4channer, except I'm linguistically cucked because jannies been spanking me a lot for saying naughty words. YOU FUCKING KNITTER! My favorite words rhyme with digger. But you gotta admit that people being offended by "le racism D:<" is so fucking funny, like a fucking word makes you shit your pants so hard you need to silence me? I mean 4chinz doesn't even have sponsors anymore, they only ban you so hard do you buy a pass.>TL;DRplease share youtube videos and channels you've found that are good, that shit is more valuable than gold.I recommend JakeDontDraw, he's got great videos in understanding traditional art that aren't boring as fuck.

Uploading the new build now, so I'll go over the new boss here. You have to unlock her by talking to her in the hub area -> "about the challenges" She's optional, but should help to bridge the difficulty spike a little. If you don't get her sitting at the small shelter, just go to sleep there to reload NPC positions. 1. She'll probably win any poise trade with you.2. All of her attacks can very easily be avoided from neutral, but her block+push move can cause you to be stunned during the block animation of some attacks. You can also choose to space it out like I do here,3. If you get knocked down or stance broken, she'll immediately follow up with an overhead swing, so conserve MP to use mist form to cancel out of it. Knockdowns can usually be recovered from, but stance break stun will last too long that you need to cancel it with mist form. 4. All of her attacks do a very high amount of stance damage, which you can throw back at her by using the new reversal skill (default 4th).

Cause 70k is 35% of 200k.But still he needs over 3 times his current profit to actually be able to justify quitting his job.Btw he could have done this by putting his game into the 5 dollar impulse buy range which has better wishlist returns. As a youtuber he couldn't even convert his own audience/community. 0.4% return rate strikes again within the 0.5% average.is selling your game at a lower price gives a higher conversion rate it is always more money if you have high wishlists. Why did he try to sky pie with 2m? Why so greedy? Blargis? Is your game really worth 20 dollars? If your game really better than hollow knight? He is not GMI yet, but I will say he is on the edge. Was reading a Twitter thread talking about the disappearance of beauty in architecture and design in the 1900s. There’s a common narrative about how it was “WWI trauma” but the thread shows a counter-example in Asia and suggests a more mundane explanation: producers were forced to scale back a little to cut costs, only to discover that consumers don’t actually care all that much. If they can get a house or a furniture for 20% cheaper at the cost of it being kind of drab and plain, they’ll take it. So producers realized all the fancy hand crafted artistry just wasn’t really worth it, and abandoned it.Anyways, I bring it up because it’s kind of obvious that it’s happened with games. The only things that matter are price and content. Artistry and ornamentation are largely useless.

Be honest. Is this a good idea?I had the idea of a giant shogi variant, but the game is less a regicide game and more a battle royale, so the last piece that survives wins. But also, to simplify the search tree of the min/max, a random piece is picked.
Premise for a game:>You're a miner in a space mining colony run by a greedy administrator and he's charging you 100 space dollars for every time you go down into the mines and then taking a 30% cut of what you mined before he lets the space IRS take a cut of what's left. 97% of miners are on the brink of starvation while the other 3% along with the planetside aspiring miners are trying to gaslight you about how it's a great deal for you actually and that if you want to not starve you simply need to mine good ores smelters want to smelt.Works for any genre, really.

>>545651467Cris, you need to set goals and then design to meet those goals. What do you even want out of this idea? If your goal is to just create any random video game as a way to waste more of your life away, then sure, it's a good idea that meets that goal. If your goal is to create a video game within a reasonable timeframe that as a reasonable chance of yielding at least $100k or even just $10k revenue on Steam, then no, it's not a good idea. Probably less than 0.1% of Steam users know the rules of Shogi, and they're not going to care to learn the rules of a complex game just to play some AI generated garbage from some fat old Columbian.

>>545652917That's not your only goal. If that was your only goal, then just make breakout where one out of 256 random waifu jpegs is hidden behind the blocks. That is sufficiently meets your stated goal.

I am supposed to make a card fusion game in Rust with pixels. Grok told me to do it this way.
>>545653420>A lot of that will be solved soonThey can't solve anything. All they can fix is the lowest common denominator crowd from cheating. Windows is bleeding and if they made a move like that gamers will just switch to some variant of Linux. Again, web games don't solve anything at all. The only way to curb cheating is game streaming and even that can and likely will have cheats made for it with some form of visual AI aim assist. The government has no real control in this matter anyways. Web has no future past flash era style games.

>>545653960>>545654237Honestly, a game with separate modes, like have a sort of JRPG bunch of town levels with npcs walking around, and a day and night system, and some dialogs, as the "JRPG mode".Could work fine if there's also a separate mode that was like a big shogi variant. And then a super ppppu mode where there's the animations of all the girls the MC.And then a VN mode where you see a basic dialog with all the girls, and a wiki sort of like beastiary of them and their lore.Pretty sure if they're kept as separate modes, that would simplify the development of the game. The issue is then making something that feels like a massive JRPG but without the cost of making such game.
I still have 2 more days to submit.
>>545654237Shogi is a japanese variant of chess. There's some extra rules like you can summon the pieces you capture into your own side of the board and all pieces can crown into stronger ones, which makes it more dinamic than chess.

I almost threw up.Are all artists like this? I'm honestly thinking of replacing her after this.

>>545652623I think that's from before I added the recoil. The recoil is enough that if you fire while midair at the wrong time you can flip the tank over. Which is kind of a problem because there's no way to un-flip it over. Unfortunately though because the tank drives so fast and needs to smoothly go over pretty large bumps and jumps without bottoming out, the suspension has to be very hardy. It absorbs the recoil (even up to ridiculous unusable amounts of force that send you flying back) better than I wish it could, so it's a tradeoff I have to make between fast and snappy driving versus felt physical recoil. Some slight camera shake might sell it better. The game has no camera shake right now.
