Contra games, Super Mario World, beat'em ups, Tekken 3. Unfortunatelly most of these were technical marvels when they came out or had a lot of sprites and animations, the juice, to make it really pop. Some of the games already had their spiritual successors done, published, I enjoyed them, found plenty of flaws. I don't think I could improve on the formula. I'm doing the next best thing.

Swordcraft Story in particular I feel has a lot of untapped potential. The basic structure of dungeon exploration -> weapon crafting -> daily boss fight is quite good. The sequel was worse off because it abandoned that structure.

updated the bokube demo again to a 003 version that fixed a ton of issues and restored all of the advance moves like double jumping, down dashing, and dash sprinting (hold dash input after you land a dash to roll at a crazy fast speed)

You need a wide-enough sample size to tell. Say, you have 100 players total. If 50 don't say anything, and 50 say it's bad, then I'd say it's a skill issue.
If only 10 say it's good, and 90 say it's bad, then it's a problem.
For real world applications I'd say you need at least a 1000 different players to tell for certain

Uploading the new build now, so I'll go over the new boss here.
You have to unlock her by talking to her in the hub area -> "about the challenges" She's optional, but should help to bridge the difficulty spike a little.
If you don't get her sitting at the small shelter, just go to sleep there to reload NPC positions.

1. She'll probably win any poise trade with you.
2. All of her attacks can very easily be avoided from neutral, but her block+push move can cause you to be stunned during the block animation of some attacks. You can also choose to space it out like I do here,
3. If you get knocked down or stance broken, she'll immediately follow up with an overhead swing, so conserve MP to use mist form to cancel out of it. Knockdowns can usually be recovered from, but stance break stun will last too long that you need to cancel it with mist form.
4. All of her attacks do a very high amount of stance damage, which you can throw back at her by using the new reversal skill (default 4th).

Most important demo changes since last demoday (DD 60):

Added a new method of drawing the health bars of enemies and followers (you can switch to the old one)
Added insignia for enemy and pet health bars (improved enemy, elite, mini-boss, etc)
If you close the game on the lose screen and the character is not dead yet, you can continue from that choice
Dropped loot is saved if you quit the game
Health pots and potions are graded every 5 levels (every Act), if the level of the pots is too low, raising them only replenishes half/quarter of the pot
Health pots and potions have a use/recovery animation, potions have a 1 sec cooldown
Rebalanced the chances of getting healing pots and skill resource potions
Level requirements for skill upgrades have been lowered to allow for a less restricted distribution when leveling up
Rats and small gobloids can jump when attacking if their target is higher than them
Most long-range enemy attacks take into account the height position of the target when fired
Hefty eating characters can eat during combat
Added a reminder message to eat food (if char didn't reach level cap)
Barrels can be pushed around
You can hold down the Use button to keep picking up items
For the modifier button on the gamepad, all bumpers can be used
If a character is created in too old versions of the game, that are not well compatible today, a message pops up periodically about it, suggesting retirement of the character
Food in the tower and out of the tower is different, but works the same

When choosing a new character, the level of experienced adventurers cannot be higher than the maximum level reached in their class

Optimized the code for generating power crystal descriptions (old crystals can be repaired by talking to the Tower Attendant)
To avoid crashes and character loss, Dropped Loot is packed into one item only if there is no already packed loot in the inventory (with packing, the weight of dropped loot is reduced from tower upgrades)

Part of this is just craps, but you can bet multiple numbers. The common strategy is to bet the pass line -> then 4 - 10 and roll until you hit a 7 out.

I'm glad the starting tutorial helped at least, not knowing craps used to be a complete non-starter, at least you could progress some though the game.

The points required to win each round scales exponentially. I made it so the curve is gentler at first but gets steeper around round 10 or so out of 15. Not super apparent in the demo since it's only 6 rounds. I still can't tell if it's too hard or not though. Premise for a game:

Honestly, a game with separate modes, like have a sort of JRPG bunch of town levels with npcs walking around, and a day and night system, and some dialogs, as the "JRPG mode".
Could work fine if there's also a separate mode that was like a big shogi variant.
And then a super ppppu mode where there's the animations of all the girls the MC.
And then a VN mode where you see a basic dialog with all the girls, and a wiki sort of like beastiary of them and their lore.

Pretty sure if they're kept as separate modes, that would simplify the development of the game.

The issue is then making something that feels like a massive JRPG but without the cost of making such game.

I think that's from before I added the recoil. The recoil is enough that if you fire while midair at the wrong time you can flip the tank over. Which is kind of a problem because there's no way to un-flip it over. Unfortunately though because the tank drives so fast and needs to smoothly go over pretty large bumps and jumps without bottoming out, the suspension has to be very hardy. It absorbs the recoil (even up to ridiculous unusable amounts of force that send you flying back) better than I wish it could, so it's a tradeoff I have to make between fast and snappy driving versus felt physical recoil. Some slight camera shake might sell it better. The game has no camera shake right now.

I need another cigarette though. I only had to feed the compilation errors back into it once, and thats because I dont development libraries in the path, so the AI cant build my project and check the compilation errors from the shell. In my other projects I can just feed them lists and walk away from the desk for 10 minutes and have a smoke. I miss the days when it took 2 hours to compile things.
