I wanted to warn about a scam going on the v3expo discord some moderator is pming users and offering to give away 1 year of claude code and comet browser to make gamedev easier. They then give you invite link to comet browser which gets them 3 dollars and then they tell you to login with your gmail account, they tell you to login on mobile first to sync your mobile data like gmail, contacts, etc to it. Then this google account will be connected across multiple devices and they will steal your your data.
I tried telling the owner of the discord but he blocked my private messages.

I started to read complexity, a guide tour, and I realize that my desire to learn to make a game as deep as go and chess, has shown me a totally unknown field of math and science known as complex systems.

I mean, I do hope by reading some books on systems and math, I can design something as deep as go.

how do you guys actually figure out how to do stuff?

like i know some programming, so i chose unity because c# is pretty straightforward. but i have no idea where to go next.

do you just mess around and figure stuff out by trial and error? follow tutorials? paid tutorials? courses?

i took unity's free online junior programmer course and while obviously its just an intro i feel like i have a pretty "ok" idea on how to do basic things. but it seems like 80% of video games are not programming at all but just creating all the different assets (and then finally assembling them all together). the meshes, the materials, the textures or whatever, the animation, the sound, the ui. the unity courses just give you the assets in the course i took... no where does it really get into how you do what seems to be the most important part. do i use 3rd party programs? which ones? how do i learn how to use those? if i am awful at drawing and "art" in general can i still make "decent" looking things in 3d?

it just is sort of frustrating. im not sure where to turn to next. i tried chatgpt for some things but it just tells you yes of course i can do everything but it is designed to say that. and annoyingly unity 6 changed a bunch of things and it keeps giving me old examples that are no longer relevant or incorrect instructions (even when i told it to only give me unity 6 stuff).

But you still can sort of like see how a chess motion, is still a homoeumorphic 1 to 1 analogy to walking, dashing, jumping in a videogame avatar.

Things like chess motions can be analogue to shmups patterns of enemies, or stuff like bosses in bomberman.

Attacking in chess and capturing enemy pieces can be emulated with collision detection using melee or fireball atacks in a normal videogame.

I put in some tags I liked and generated a song I wanted to test if it would be decent. It's okay but it does feel more like a proper song than just main menu that usually doesn't have a intro. Meant as main menu music or something. I subbed to Suno Pro, they say I can use it commercially, but legally I don't know. Additionally I don't think gamers really care that much about the music. It's the other way around, if the music sounds good enough and they boot up the game and keep hearing the same song over again they'll start to like it over time and then think that they like it.

Im too low iq to understando but i think il try removing the outline shader from all text elements and see if it helps in a 004 update. The current 003 demo build is solid enough though for demoday but today il work on a 004 update that continues to polish the little details like the UI stuff so steam demo goes better.

It still doesn't solve issues that are fixed but only compiler specific so you're locked into that env and makes cross platform more annoying. The Linux kernel makes use of many gcc extensions where it isn't even C anymore. The best thing you can learn for game dev is physics 101. Well that can also be vibecoded now but you should start from the premise a game without good physics is closer to a visual novel like yandere dev. Your toolset will be very limited. AI killed Bokube. BokuDev is mentally ill and cannot act rationally, and AI gave him enough rope to hang himself. Without AI, or if he had been wise and careful and not just faked those personal attributes, BokuDev effectively had a constrained engine inside Unity that he could create content in and do game design in. The constraints prevented BokuDev from hanging himself.

AI removed BokuDev's constraints, and BokuDev was not wise and honest enough to handle that removal of constraints. Bokube might have way more jank than previously.

Bokube of today might be significantly worse and less fit for release than Bokube 2 years ago.

Can't make the itch.io post tonight (won't have time to write it until tomorrow), but it's finished. That was some very hectic and very fast mission design to spice up the helicopter and jet missions. My favorite is that jet doesn't really have a threat, so I copied the enemy tank (the only enemy vehicle in the game right now) and just changed its weapon stats to make it into an AA tank.

but malware can now read your session cookies and steal your google/steam/whatever account and your wallets and anything so I'm not risking it.

you're still downloading it to your computer's memory. whether it's RAM or a temp directory or an installation directory it's not much different.
the main difference other than convenience is when you run a browser game it's much more sandboxed than if you run it as an application.

It its unable to solve this issue the way i want it to but im to blame for it since i cant quite explain how i want it to solve it

you should consider getting cursor instead of using a python script to create a huge context of all your codebase, or at the very least claude with a maintained CLAUDE.md file

The mesh on the right is a copy of the mesh on the left. The copy is a MultiMeshInstance

Basically im creating a grid around the real world with copies in order to create the illusion of an infinite world
