I know Yoshida (FFXIV's boss) really liked FFT and refers to it a lot, but all the races in there really bring FFIX to my mind, except it's pushed even further.If FFXIV had rat people, they'd have two subraces, the desert rats, and the underground rats, and they'd be at odds with some factions actually fighting for aggresive trade negotations.If FFIX ever get a remake, I hope the different races will be better integrated in the lore rather than be just "oh yeah that guy has four arms, he's the only four-armed bloke you'll see in the game, and no, he has no backstory, he's just here to steal Dagger's purse".

>>546283490Both games didn’t quite hit the mark when it came to the giant spectacle kaiju battles. XV had Leviathan, where you fought her in the city while it was completely drowning in a monsoon. The scale of the fight was there because the arena was a city to compare the scale of the fight to, but the gameplay was so monumentally shit that it completely ruined the whole experience. XVI’s gameplay was much better, but it was let down by its arenas. You’re always fighting on some random platform made of crystals, in a cave, in the air, or in some void. You can certainly presume the monsters fighting are enormous, but given that there’s nothing to compare them to it loses a lot of the sense of scale it should have. XV’s Leviathan but with XVI’s gameplay would have been the definitive kaiju battle in video games, but unfortunately SE still has a need to combine the best of both worlds.
