I don't know why Joshua had to survive without any consequence. Maybe he's alive but deathly injured or in some stasis state and Clive needs to do something to save him. I don't like how Clive more or less LUCKS OUT of it. If at least he moved to correct the mistake, be his hand or Ultima's, it would show him fixing the problem. This plotline I'm suggesting would also be similar to FFVI where Locke was trying to find the Phoenix magicite to bring back his fiancée. Even if Locke wasn't the one who killed her, he felt guilt over it and fully worked towards undoing this. If Clive Uzumaki was in Locke's shoes, Rachel would've turned up alive just fine like nothing happened and handed him the Phoenix magicite so he can collect all the Bijuu .

The reason we ended up with a miserable corridor, braindead combat and retarded script that was rewritten 100 times is precisely because of development issues. Many of the problems in the game were just fixed in the sequel btw, and LR is miles better action game than XVI or XV.XVI's development time is over ~5.5 years, plus 1 year of preproduction (writing the story). No big problems with the engine, no shit. The reason we ended up with a corridor, empty MMO fields, braindead combat, and the dullest story in the series is because of the creator's design decisions.

Final Fantasy (and nearly all JRPGs) are very anime. It being childish is debatable. The writing and plots are more shounen. Which isn't "childish" in the way you're thinking. But it is aimed at the same kind of demographic as stuff like Gundam and Naruto (and uses many of the same plots and tropes as those). And this is also why it's very much anime. And being anime is not a negative thing. It's what draws a lot of people to Final Fantasy.The games also take heavy inspiration from stuff like Star Wars, Never-Ending Story, Marvel and so on. And in more recent examples, stuff like Pirates of the Caribbean, Lord of the Rings and so on. Other media that's aimed at teen market. FFXVI was trying to be the big game to buck this trend and go for the Game of Thrones market as well as go for a more "realistic" style. But failed miserably. Though I wouldn't say it's because the audience hated the turn to a more adult theme. Tons of kids love GoT because they think sex and violence makes stuff more "mature." Rather it failed because in their infinite wisdom, they made a fucking GoT homage 7 years after the GoT fad passed. The ending of the show totally killed people's interest in it. And Square's like "let's copy that!"
