Repostan from last thread

Hello, today at 19:00CET (2h30 from now) I will host a "YosaVR" dancing session.
>What is YosaVR to begin with?
"YosaVR" is the combination of "Yosakoi" and VR. Yosakoi is a (modern) japanese folk dance style, which often relies on using accessories.
With "YosaVR", we aim to actively learn dance routines; first we'll learn some actual yosakoi routines, but I'm planning to eventually mix it with other types of dances/songs later on.
>What does it looks like?
Here are some videos from when I was training it back in May:
- Easy song: https://streamable.com/0wxl7i
- Mid song: https://streamable.com/91lp9t
- Difficult one (no video editing): https://streamable.com/4b02tr
>What to know? How will we train?
When I tried to host it earlier this year, I made this document:
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1m6DHeP7rt538M18IdRz6fAGeD_hIQvGJgBc7CtrWpTo/edit?usp=sharing
Even if some infos might be outdated now, if you are interested in the project I recommend you to read it still.
This time I'll try to also host it regularly on Thursdays while keeping the "dojo format". In my opinion it is much harder than both PyPy or ParaPara, so if you want to become good at it, you will most likely need to train outside of the regular Thursday instances.
>What to expect for today?
This time we'll keep on seeing the moves of "Street of the Soran": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rBND5Ftn2bA
And we will keep on doing full song training on the beginner dance "Agara": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7FweefSy68Y
Please note that dancing is an intense physical activity, so there will be a bit of warmup/stretching before we start, if you join late I strongly advise you take a few minutes warming up before starting to dance.
Sessions are open to everyone, pro and beginner alike! If you are curious to either watch or dance just join

Lyric Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ucg3wvgk_Ac
Lyrics: https://genius.com/Rick-astley-love-this-christmas-lyrics
This year we're producing an alternative Christmas song for the thread, this time a rendition of Love This Christmas with no changes to the lyrics.
Recording starts now and ends on the 19th of November to give the video editor time to work his magic.
Contact the recorders in game or by other means to join in, either singing the chorus, a verse or the whole thing.

Recorders:
SEA - Noxsea
EU - Karkeys, Uzugu
NA - Azuth

The more recorders the merrier, if you don't feel like you or your friends are covered by the names above, contact Karkeys to join the list of recorders.
If you want to get a feel for what the finished product will be like, here's the song from last year: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bLWV08ftkBE

Welcome to the mini-pre-Christmas season! We're back at sensibly priced sporty cars. This time: 200HP, FWD Honda Civics. At Kicevo, it's gonna be bumpy.

60 minute practice
12 minutes qualifiers
14 laps race

Afterwards some more Japanese kino TOUGE part 3.

If you just bought Assetto - grab Assetto Corsa Content Manager - a better launcher and mod manager: https://assettocorsa.club/content-manager.html To install mods: just drag and drop zip files from mega onto the Content Manager windows and click on the hamburger menu on top right. Highly recommend installing stable custom shader patch and 7-zip plugin in Content manager.

Depends on how much you hate Facebook and whether you're willing to put in some extra effort and money getting a decent wireless PCVR setup working.

Because Gabe decided he wants the casual audience and decided he can compete with a 500 dollar headset by offering a likely 800 dollar headset, with only marginally better specs. And at the same time try and make a game "ecosystem" with the steambox. It's clear that's where the real effort is.
>>
Speculation time. What do you think the price of Frame is going to be?

They've somewhat firmly said less than Index, but Index came with lighthouses at $1000. I don't know if tarriffs are going to influence price in some way.

Valve releases things they think are genuinely interesting. They don't think about the market, they don't think about whether people want it or not. They create something they think is good, and then throw it at the people and see if they also think it is good. They see VR as good and they are trying to solve the chicken and egg problem with VR hardware and VR games. No games, no hardware. No hardware, no games.
The OG vive was a collab with valve. They saw VR as genuinely interesting and so got lighthouse tracking off the ground and into people's homes. The index was an extension; take the vive, polish it and create a solid, enjoyable VR experience and combine it with a new HALF LIFE game of all things in VR, and then sit back and watch the new industry blossom.
Meta then came in and shit on everything by killing PCVR and then creating an absolutely abysmal walled garden full of slop. PCVR titles simply cannot make money. People don't care.
They still think VR is cool so they design the frame. Lighthouses are too expensive, meta showed that camera tracking is good enough, and this whole PCVR wireless hack that people put together on the INTENDED TO BE STANDALONE headsets was almost good enough to work. So they polish that concept, and throw in something important: Games. It plays flat games. There is no longer any concept of 'no games', because it plays flat games. Standalone titles. PCVR titles if you can find any. People buy and use the headsets for flat games, and then there's a market for PCVR to actually exist.

There we go. My dad works at valve and asked gaben all this and after talking about yachts for 20 minutes he mumbled something about chickens and eggs and VR.
>>
Has anyone done this?

I'm thinking a $350 refurbished Quest 3 plus this would be half the price of whatever the Frame will cost.
>>
>>546390302
Yep. On recon no less.
>>
>>546390295
No its not actually. They sell it at cost, which is why im worried about the frame because the also said they plan on treating the steam machine pricing as if it was a comparable PC rather than a console which means valve has actually lost the plot for why consoles sell the way they do.

It really needed a nerf tho, hopefully it is not too extreme.
>>
>>546389960
>Quest is only so cheap because zucc sells at a loss to undercut competition
Probably technically is if you factor in R&D costs, but they're definitely not selling the hardware at a loss.
>>
>>546390682
>valve has actually lost the plot for why consoles sell the way they do.
They don't care. If you want it you'll buy it. If you don't then they'll stop making it. They're selling the concept of it more than the actual hardware, they just provide a polished version of the concept.
>>
>>546390454
valve didnt really have a choice because of the Meta/Microsoft partnership bringing gamepass to the quest.
>>
>>546390682
How do you know? Gabe was saying it was "painful" to sell it at the price it was at.
>>
>>546390454
>Meta then came in and shit on everything by killing PCVR and then creating an absolutely abysmal walled garden full of slop. PCVR titles simply cannot make money.
Valve killed the pcvr market themselves by not releasing anything at all, was it that hard to port their SP games to VR? They should have used steam home as the new garrys mod replacement and create their own vrchat instead of the unity crap we got. Imagine releasing source 2 with a UE like license and access to all valve assets (from the vr ports they should have done) to develop vr chat like worlds for steam home.
But sure blame the zuck, at least he has been shown wearing the damn lenses
>>
>>546391305
>Valve killed the pcvr market themselves by not releasing anything at all,
They can't do all the work anon. If they're the only people making VR content then VR is still dead. They definitely could have done more, but they did A LOT. They showed off the potential and expected others to take it from there, and if they didn't, it means there was no realizable potential.
>>
>lcd
>>
>>546391305
I would have loved that. Truth is Valve is too lazy to do something like a real social VR platform, and even if they did, they would just lose interest and stop supporting it anyway.
>>
110 FOV is the 1366x768 of VR headsets
>>
>>546389828
Why should anyone care about it at that price? It's fucking double a Meta 3
>>
>>546391590
>They definitely could have done more, but they did A LOT. They showed off the potential and expected others to take it from there
What a lot? A single game that was too scared to try anything fun, teleport movement, no melee and 3 weapons, coming out a year after boneworks has already released.
And then they gave up and never touched it again, not even now as they already stated there is no new VR content.
If they didn't want to work in VR they could have contracted a studio, like they did for csgo with hidden path, a bad game is better than no game, hell finance the development of the VR ports by the community itself, they could have sold VR passes in csgo/cs2 to let you play the vr port, even better if cross play with flat and vr was enabled in community servers, showing the plebs what they are missing.
>>
>>546392064
Do I really need to talk to you about what the 'steam' part of 'steamvr' implies or can you figure that one out yourself
>>
>>546390454
>>546390783
They have to care. The headset still has to compete with others.

When the index came out, it was positioned as a premium product, but it was still competing in a sphere where the vive and og oculus were still around on their last legs, and the only next step was the rift s, and quest 1. With the expectation that the rift s was the next step.

So it was expensive, but it was a premium product that actually gave you something for that in terms of its specs vs it's aging contemporaries.

But here, it's launching 3 years late to the party, with the quest 3 having launched in 23. It has to compete with it. It's the only real competitor. And it's specs are not a huge leap to warrant what will surely not be anywhere near the 3's cost.
>>
Pcvr died because there was barely any incentive for make games for it as opposed to for the quest. The quest was vastly more popular than pcvr. Why even bother with a platform that guarantees lower sales?
Valve had the opportunity to fix this but they fucked it up by making the frame a more expensive quest 3
>>
>>546392563
It doesn't have to compete with anything except people's own desires. Quest 3 users aren't playing PCVR* **. They're not playing flat games on their headsets either.

*Except VRChat
** I can tell because NO-ONE is playing PCVR
>>
>>546392125
Boy I can't wait to play flat games on my headset! This is truly what vr is for! Not like I already have a monitor or tv screen hookup!
Literally who is sitting there actually interested in that? You need to actually sell the vr aspect too you know
>>
>>546392825
It's not a VR headset. It's a flat game headset that also plays VR games.
>>
>>546392125
The thing that bugs out after 10 min if you want to keep a desktop screen in your arm forcing you to minimize the vr game to get it to refresh?
The thing that has no way to record vr footage and was explicitly ignored when they added the steam recording feature?
The thing that every quest use is told to avoid using if possible and to use vdxr with virtual desktop instead?
The thing that doesn't even support passthrough to have a floating screen to play flat game instead of a stupid black void?

The virtual desktop dev has done more for pcvr than that thing
>>
>>546392898
>>546392825
it's pretty clever that they would do this because they'll sneak a VR headset into the hands of people who were the type of people who are going to buy a steam deck and then now they'll buy this and now they'll buy half-life 7 or whatever

It's going to be worth the cost to some people just to have an option around that price that isn't Meta. Gonna be funny watching opinions flip on wireless because of that.
I think being designed to work out of the box for wireless PCVR is a plus, and eye tracking is nice. If the cost is similar to a Quest 3, dedicated router, and upgraded strap, then it'll be pretty good depending on what headset you're coming from. It's just not a super attractive option for anyone that already has a decent Quest 3 setup.

1. Valve “Steam Frame” / Deckard Speculation

No official headphone jack people joke about needing adapters or modular straps.

Debate over likely price: most anons predict $800–$900.

Mixed reactions: excitement for a Meta-free headset vs frustration at high price and LCD panels.

Some think Valve’s trying to reach “flat gamers” by supporting both desktop and VR play.

2. Meta Quest 3 vs Index vs Frame

Some refuse to pay $900 for Quest 3; others find $250 used deals.

Index users discuss whether Quest 3 is an upgrade or downgrade.

Concerns about compression, hybrid FBT, and Meta’s privacy issues.

3. Meta vs Valve and PCVR’s Future

Long debate on who “killed” PCVR:

Meta accused of fragmenting the market with standalone systems.

Valve accused of doing too little after Half-Life: Alyx.

Discussion about the chicken-and-egg problem of VR content vs userbase.

4. Technical & Game Chatter

Racing events in Assetto Corsa (EU racing club).

Forefront and VTOL VR balance talk.

FBT calibration and avatar setup questions.

Linux and SteamVR overlay quirks.

Meta Thread Stuff

Some posters joke about AI (“ChatGPT can’t TL;DR 4chan threads anymore”).

Others reply with memes mocking or defending that idea.

Usual banter, tech humor, and slang-filled back-and-forths typical of /vg/ generals.

Probably should've been more clear that I do think the Frame wireless support will be better. And if it's significantly better, I'll go Quest 3 to Frame.
I don't expect a lot of the people who end up changing their minds on wireless will actually have tried both though.

Same kind of plan as last time:
BE READY to jump into a server at 1900 UTC. We'll stare at the sever list for a bit until we get impatient and jump into the first 0/32 EU ALL MAPS that appears. This could be at 1901. these servers fill up in like 3-4 minutes.

so should i take a break from VR sell my quest 3 and buy a steam, frame when it comes out all so i can expediter my move to linux away from windows 11? and yes i know ALVR exists but it has noticeable lag even at optimal settings and over a wire and im just tired of everything i own serving me ads right from the main interface

>>
>>546413843
its literally made to be used plug and play with the steam machine that runs linux
>>
>>546414362
take note how they didn't emphasize what kind of content the Steam Machine was meant to stream to the Frame?
Steam Link has worked for a long time and that is what they meant since it was pointing at both Frame and Deck
Steam VR Link has barely just now started functioning as of the last major release of SteamVR 2.12, and it wasn't even touted in patchnotes as being something that was supposed to work
it barely functions, as is, but it used to not do anything at all so hey that's a bonus!
>>
>>546414165
>>546414165
>ive been using VR on linux only for years now, my man
We're discussing nativity here. Obviously overall vanilla steamvr is shit and anyone with half a brain uses monado.
>>
>>546414523
you clearly have not paid attention to the launch they are literally shipping it with a wifi dongle that will only connect to the steam frame there will absolutely be native linux connectivity
>>
>>546414701
>We're discussing nativity here.
natively running VR on the Frame? good luck, its weaker than the Deck
its streaming-first and meant to use Steam VR Link, which like I said barely functions as-is on Linux and wasn't even advertised as being updated, see >>546414523
>>
>>546414863
all of the demos with the dongle were done on regular PCs, not the Steam Machine
there was no direct mention of the dongle working on Linux, as no one bothered to ask
it uses Steam VR Link, which barely functions currently
maybe they'll fix it in the next few months leading up to preorders, maybe they won't
they certainly haven't fixed up SteamVR for the last several years, that's for sure
>>
>>546415061
they literallysa5y in the hardware announcement that it will have the dongle built into the steam machine and for all its warts steamVR is still miles better than the even more dated meta link software
>>
>>546415334
you mean the dedicated steam controller dongle?
the box itself has 6E sure, but that still doesn't mean Steam VR Link works well right now
maybe they'll fix it, but they certainly haven't yet and it would be a broken mess if you tried it right now almost gauranteed
>>
>>546415565
it dosnt work well cause its mostly piggybacking off off a router rooms away this will be a direct connection so it will have all the bandwidth it could ever need
i just want to dump shitty windows 11 every second using it is like a nail through my foot most recently there is a delay between me hitting shut down and the machine actually shutting down for no good reason
>>
>>546415850
>it dosnt work well cause..,
no you're literally ignoring me as the linux VR user
It.
Doesn't.
Fucking.
Work.
Yet.
I'm not even talking about latency, just it working AT ALL
just take one look at LVRA community and you'll get a quick snapshot of complaints about SteamVR/Steam VR Link in general at any given time
there's a reason they all say to use WiVRn/Monado instead of Valve's offerings
>>
>>546416078
ok then i will sell my quest 3 and later get a steam frame when it will work none if this changes the fact windows 11 is crashing and fucking burning and any week now we will get an update that renders millions of PCs unbootable without a reinstall
they fucking broke task manager they are breaking shut down every week is a game of "what did MS break with their shit vibe coded updates this week" im getting so fucking sick of it and the literal only reason i use it is for this quest 3
>>
>>546416390
you could just try things out now with WiVRn on a portable or spare SSD with your Quest 3
>>
>>546416078
As another linux troon I can confirm what this anon says. Steam VR Link doesn't work, Steam VR barely works, most of the time, until an update breaks it again.
>>

Time to host a lobby this weekend!

you'd want to try WiVRn
all wifi streaming is going to have latency anyway, regardless of OS or streamer software used

TOMORROW WE RESONITE
yes as you heard let's keep the exploration going! at 20:00 UTC
NO MORE CRASHES
we fixed that

here you have a compressive guide for avatars:

There is a tool to import your VRChat avatar quickly to resonite, even with facetracking settings, the tool in question is a subtool from MA (Modular avatar, and instructions are here:

https://modular-avatar.nadena.dev/docs/experimental-features/resonite-support

For modern facetra from hai support you may need this:

https://docs.hai-vr.dev/docs/products/facetra-shape-creator/modular-avatar-for-resonite-patch

It may have some issues, but we can troubleshoot them tomorrow, before

If you don't have an account still go and make them we shall teach the basics to anyone that needs it

It's not the solution you want, but in the meantime you could swap from win11 to win11 IOT-E LTSC, or whatever it's called. Enterprise version
I don't even have microsoft store or copilot
If it's updating it does it in the background and nothing has broke that I care about
it's funny, you launch a game and MS gamebar tries to come up but it doesn't exist so you just get a warning message to download it, and you click download and it says you don't have MS store
you can just close the prompts without issue thoughever.

In the video settings in SteamVR (advanced options must be enabled) you may find the HDCP Legacy 1.4 Compatibility setting or something, turn it on if you use Displayport for your headset and experience black screens. I think steamVR will prompt you to do this.

The visual issues with Competizione I had were all because of the settings required to make it run well. As far as I know, it's possible to make it look clear if you actually have a strong enough GPU to brute force through it.
It does run way worse than it should for how it looks though, and there's really no excuse for that.

Some more experimental VR interaction design. This is ostensibly for a system to play card games in VR(chat) reasonably. See https://arch.b4k.dev/vg/thread/545117157/#q545209762 for some past webums and info my autism project.

I now have notecards, which while holding one in one hand, you can draw stuff on them on the other hand by pressing trigger. And the strokes stay fixed on the surface the card itself, so you can use the card as a token or notes or whatever. Also, if you hold the notecard with both grip buttons, you can resize it, including all the strokes on it. So if you sneed more detail you can make it big and draw stuff, then size it back down to a reasonable card size. You spawn new notecards from a.. bag (cube) like in Tabletop Simulator.

The drawing is still a little bit janky (no erasing yet, kind of tricky to keep on the surface of the card), but the fact they're attached to a notecard makes them a lot more useful than basic QvPen world-space drawings. I think it'll be potentially useful for playing some of the meme GMless games like microscope/kingdom, where you use notecards to keep track of main story and stuff but still need to be able to move them around separately.

Syncing theoretically works (they're linerenderers like QvPen) but I still haven't actually implemented it yet.

>>
>>546440385
Does your card system incorporate the other mtg anon’s card image loading system?
>>
>>546440385
I also made some dice, which you can quasi-physically throw. Basically, after you release them, they do actually simulate in for a second in unity physics, but with a trajectory that auto-aims them towards somewhere on the surface of the playmat plus a spring joint that pulls all the dice towards it. And after another few mililiseconds, it gives up and just lerps the dice towards a final target position.

So as a result, you get something that mostly feels like throwing dice, but you don't have to actually deal with them rolling under the table or whatever. Keeping hopefully the satisfying bits of the interaction without the annoying parts. Like how Alyx gravity gloves make you feel like you're a god at catching stuff in midair, but it also fudges all the physics.

This is of course pretty useless for actual MTG (dice only come up when choosing first player and some grey-border unset meme cards), but was fun figuring out how to implement. And also opens up the system to many other board games. The way I'm loading cards in is pretty generic. Udon Stringloader loads a big binary of card image atlasses and json data (which happens to be MTG at the moment). So theoretically you can load pieces from other board games, and even custom 3d models for like meeples and stuff. So autism willing, I think I have a decent implementation of most of tabletop sim's functionality too.

>>546441120
Inspired by, but rather than loading individual card images through udon imageloader, it loads full atlas + metadata from a custom format.
>>
>>546441006
Ahh that sucks, yeah bonelab is kind of like that, it has a mp mod that some people played for a while here, but the sp is supposedly lacking, I only ever played boneworks though, which I still recommend.
The recently released forefront is the hot and shiny current thing if you want a shooter.
Blade and sorcery finally released but it is kind of a dissapointment, good to play with every few months though but the AI is the dumbest I have seen in any game which takes the fun out of it.
>>
>>546441731
what is this custom format you load from? Is there a specific database you pull all this data from?
>>
>>546442672
I have a slop python script that parses an MTGO decklist, downloads all the card faces from scryfall, atlasses them into a DXT1/BC1 4k texture, and saves that plus some json about the decklist in a dumb length-prefixed binary form. Then udon stringloader can download the entire thing over http (contrary to its name it'll do bytes fine without base64 for anything), use Texture2D.LoadRawTextureData, and use the json to make all the decks and assign the atlas coordinates and stuff. I was inspired by https://github.com/vr-voyage/vrchat-glb-loader which does the same thing but for GLTF/GLB format; it also loads meshes, so I know that's possible too.

The next dumb thing I think I'm going to work on is customizing the card backs and playmat surface, then try to load wixoss decklists/cards in. That game has a couple different distinct card backs and more zones on the playmat itself you. But the system should generalize pretty well to that. Other TCGs would work too of course.
>>
>>546443251
Holy fuck that is so smart. Please bear my children.

i’ve been trying to use glbloader for world room generation but I was getting stuck on the weird requirement of being a discord link that limits access. Perhaps it’s fine with other links like google drive as well. I wanted to check that
>>
>>546443586
you should be able to load the glb from any url if user has "allow untrusted" enabled. Or if you need it to work in like publics, https://creators.vrchat.com/worlds/udon/string-loading/#trusted-urls could use a github pages/gist.

Inside out tracking so it won't track if it doesn't have line of sight to the headset. It has gyros so it can estimate for a while but I imagine it'll be pretty similar to the quest tracking limitations. Index remains the best vrtranny headset out there.

the python script turns a decklist into a binary file that is then hostable on a file webserver (I use python -m http.server when testing but nginx or caddy would work fine too). So I only run the script whenever I want to change the decklist. Then udon stringloader reads that file through http://localhost:8000/somefile and does stuff with it.

I'll post the source to the whole mtg project eventually, once it's more complete.

Why do you feel soxial anxiety with VRChat?
There are basically no consequences and your real life will not be affected if you fuck up a conversation.
VRChat is literally the perfect ground to kill your social anxiety as negative results do not have any consequences like real life.

And don't be scared of "ruining" your reputation because you sperged out - I have been playing for 4 years and I barely see the same people in public instances unless friends join me or I join friends.

they already use DSC on DP 1.4a, there's no point in looking at HDMI
their display controller for the current stack they have just can't do it with their particular panel setup, all of that shit is tightly integrated together and would basically take a redesign to replace
I don't think there's been any example of a headset foveating its actual displays themselves (rather than the game or the stream, for example) to reduce bandwidth needs; it would require very low level driver support integrated with the device and would require basically 0 latency for tracking, analyzing, and reacting for something like that to work

Whatever, DP not HDMI then, I didn't remember what type of port they were using. Yes and no. There are safe limits. Turns out the SUN is actually quite a strong emitted of IR radiation and if your LEDs are WAY below that then it's actually fine.

The technical version of the above is below. The safe limits for prolonged exposure are 200W/m^2. IR LEDs are usually below this.
>>
>>546478046
What the fuck how do I block infrared out of my windows then
>>
>>546477898
There are standards defined for the amount of infrared light you can shine on your eye. It's a concern, but VR follows them, so hopefully it's fine.

>>546477982
My one problem with it is that in real life, sun blasts infrared in your eyes, but your pupils are very small due to overall brightness. in VR, it's possible you're playing a dim/dark game where you get next to no "normal" light, so your pupil is open all the way out, and then infrared is still illuminating your wide open eye pupil, so eye is gathering more of it. I feel like current standards might not have been taking this scenario into account, though I don't know for sure.

I think they do since the standards are for lamps used indoors. It's a set of directives for indoor lighting and other devices. It's also used to compare things like foundry workers who work indoors but get exposed to a LOT of IR from the molten metal, so their pupils will be wide open because it's kinda dark but receiving IR.

That makes sense, I hope you're right. To be honest, risk doesn't feel all that huge logically speaking, I didn't hear of any VR-related IR eye damage yet and I assume it'd be huge on the news if anyone would end up getting it.

The risk is very low, it's just that if I'd kill my eyes because I wanted to move them in VRChat, I'd feel really, really, really fucking stupid about myself. That's the reason i had a potentiometer in eyetrack to always adjust for absolute bare minimum of infrared light that still allows it to work, that's also the reason why I ended up not using it in the long run. It's not that it's a serious danger, it's just that it'd feel horrendously fucking stupid if it'd ever happen
>>
>>546477898
open flame like candles also emits a lot of infrared

>>546478140
polarizing filters. Infrared also doesn't bounce equally well off all surfaces, but I don't know the details. I know ultra violet doesn't bounce off most surfaces at all, unless it's a really shiny or white surface. As the other anon hinted, snow is both, and is very dangerous, both for eye damage and sunburns in weird places.
>>
>>546478990
Imagine becoming blind due to excessive gooning in VRChat :(
>>
>>546478990
One thing you should pay attention to is that BECAUSE things like the steam frame do have IR in them, they need to actually comply with IEC 62471 and in European Directive 2006/25/EC and so they will need to have stats on the emission of IR they have. They're legally required to provide that information to anyone who asks + it might just be available from the licensing and certification process they had to go through. If you're worried you can actually look it up.

The reason the Q3 has less screen door is because they messed up the optics to add blur so you can't tell. >>
>>546479809

I'm trying... I lost about a lot of weight this year but then my diet fell apart and it sucked being tired all the time. I'm struggling to get back on the 900 calorie deficit I was doing.

I don't think you get that the quest 4 isn't coming

Don't do a 900 calorie deficit for long term weight loss. That's hard cutting and you should only be doing that for short bursts at a time. Go down to 300-400 calorie deficit.

>>546483706
The quest 4 will be here in September/October and it will have a higher resolution, pov, and better lenses than the frame will being cheaper

>>
>>546483808
I'm not sure if the calculators were accurate and it was really a 900 calorie deficit because I wasn't losing weight at a rate consistent with that much of a cut. From the rate of weight loss, an average of 650 calorie deficit was more likely, more some days, less others
>>
>>546484308
Weight loss is never a consistent burn, it's always the week long averages that matter.

There is likely an exploit you can find to jailbreak it to root the system, but then it's running Apple's processor with yet another special snowflake instruction set, which linux could be adapted to, but adapting steamOS specifically and not 'generic linux' would be the hard part. As don't own any VR device yet then yes, it's good entry level. Think of it as a better Quest 3.
It's not a product for people with 3 other headsets gooning 24/7 in VRC, but it's perfectly serviceable for normies.
>>
>>546487127
It seems like a solid choice, but it's underwhelming for most of us because it's not high-end. Unless price goes too high, I'd assume it's going to become the replacement for a Quest 3, which is currently the "grab it for your first headset" recommendation. Still, all we know now is general specifications, so let's see how it goes once it's out.
>>
>>546487167

>>546487421

>>
>>546487127
It will be an EXCELLENT 2023 headset at $800 minimum. It will be the best standalone headset for like 6 years or more, but it is NOT entry level.
>>
>>546487298
Neat.
>>546487310
What makes it not entry level? it seems like pretty much: "just plop it on your head and go, nothing else needed"? And they did say it was gonna be cheaper than index.
>>546487390
>>546487417
I guess I'll have to wait for the price anyway. I keep thinking about VR, but I'm trapped in an endless cycle of: "just wait for the next headset release", then that headset is out for a bit and it's: "No don't buy that! Buy the next gen of this other one that's coming out soon!" repeat forever. I've liked the steam controller, and how valve supported that for a long time, going with a valve product seems to make sense to me because they're not gonna dick me over in some unforseen way.
>>
>>546487732
>It will be the best standalone headset for like 6 years or more

>>
>>546487747
>entry level
that's a made up term specifically for this website and it has no meaning. don't listen to him he's fat
>>
>>546487747
>What makes it not entry level?
The price. The actual device itself is going to be a great 'just works' headset and it will be highly recommended to people who want to get into VR who have the money to do so.
When most people say 'entry level' they mean affordable and reasonably polished, and that's the quest line.
>>

I got Q3 on release and i literally shit my pants when the virtual screen popped up in passthrough
people can tell you all day that
>it's 3D
and you think you get it. Then you try it and it fucking blew my socks off. I instantly regret not getting an index. I guess the advantage waiting this long is i had a backlog of cool VR shit to try
point is, I don't think you'll be disappointed with Frame. At all.
You'd probably think a Q2 or Q3 is the bee's knees

>>
>>546489145
but if you put sperm in bagina it makes a 50% clone?

>>
>>546489307
It's literally built from the ground up to do both, anon. Also it can't be leashed, there's no cabled option. Wireless only.
>>
>>546489217
Would you accept a Q2 with 2 years of fresh semen?
>>
>>546489431
will I need a separate router like a questcuck or is the dongle enough to make it run smoothly?
>>
>>546489534
You cannot possibly produce 2 years of fresh semen because it would cease being fresh after your second hour of producing it. It's why you freeze it, so it remains reasonably close to how it was when fresh.
>>
>>546487127
>Seems like a good entry level thing to pick up?
Depends on what you look for, but yes.
It's the only standalone headset built with "streaming first" philosophy, so probably would be the best wireless pcvr experience out of the box.
Lot of us are disappointed at it because we are a very specific niche, and even then the headset is still somewhat appealing.
However, if you are very interested getting into VR *right now*, there's not many reasons to wait for it to release, just get a quest3 or a pico, or a used quest2/psvr2
>>
>>546489680

>>
>>546503304
I'm now calling it the steam fwame.
>>
>>546503304
it's $15 for 4x new sticks on amazon
the kit even comes with tools to tear your controllers apart
I only recommend this because I'm up to like 3 repairs in 2 years. eventually the drift gets so bad even the software compensation for it can't correct and it will eventually kill me in exfilzone because I start turning during a gunfight.
they're not that hard to take apart. the first time is scary, just be careful with the ribbons and smudging your fingers over the delicate IR emitters once you're in it's guts.
I've gotten good enough it only takes me like 45 mins now.

also protip, fully disassemble the shit. there's a stage, before you install the new stick, where it seems like you can skip removing the bottom grip and ribbons connecting power and bluetooth. just fully take it apart. It's like a fucking siamese finger trap trying to get it all back together but if you try to shortcut it will be impossible to get the cup on the bottom of the analog stick in, and you'll have to tear it apart again anyway.

you can also turn your hmd on and check to see if the sensor is good before fully reassembling. I've had maybe a 50% success rate with the sticks off amazon, as in half of them were fucking drifting new out of the package.

The other major complaint is with the screen resolution; it competes with a 2 year old headset on that front. Personally I think that ignores the other properties of the screen. Higher refresh rate than the Q3. Lower latency than the Q3. Overall a better, if not more pixel dense, screen. Also funny finding out that the quest uses blurry lenses on purpose to hide the screen door.

linux still, don't understand why you point it out and it will be able to play x86 games/software AND android APKs
>hand tracking
yes, it's in the works it is confirmed
>superb chip
yes, I do not know any that is better currently? is there?
>compatible with any VR game in existence
yes, the only ones not working will be the ones requiring specific API like metas. All other will work and be playable.
>excellent battery
+3h for streaming and ~1h30m for standalone confirmed already, seems as good as any other
>mic
same like index confirmed
>audio
confirmed better than index just more ambient noise (none if your room is quiet)
>>
>>546517885
>confirmed better than index
Not sure about that one chief. That sad, other straps ARE planned which will presumably have index audio.

Liking the energy for the steam fram
Hopefully there are enough beta testers fund the oled model
>>
Cant type to save my life in vr apparently
>>
>>546519632
oled wasn't dropped because of cost it was dropped because of the compromises with the rest of the system it forces that valve wasn't willing to make
so oled edition doubtful
>>
>>546518843
RE4VR can be played on pico and play 4 dream and all other headsets. There is a patcher.
It will be playable day one on frame.
Lenses and third party straps will be available, there is already tons of info for custom prints.
You can be sure that many different straps will be available.,
>>
After using a BSB2 I can confidently say OLED for VR is not as big of a deal as I thought or as it is for flat screens

I was doomposting about the Frame before but now I'm starting to get hype
>>
>>546520256
new straps will be REQUIRED to come with a battery no one is going to want to TOUCH that
>>
>>546520405
Original battery is detachable anon. Can be attached to new battery and there already are many external battery straps.

I've bought and used:
HTC Vive
Valve Index

Steam frame soon
>>

In order, if my memory serves:
Valve Index
Quest 2
HP Reverb G2
Quest Pro
Vive XR Elite
Quest 3
>>
>>546525003
Currently 3,
Index (sits on the cuck shelf)
Quest 2 (sits on the cuck shelf)
Quest Pro (Daily Driver)
Past headsets I no longer have:
Lenoov Explorer (goated, first headset)
HTC Vive (I gave to my sister)

Steam frame soon...
>>
>>546500149
They said they're looking to price it less then an Index, which leaves wiggle room for more then the base Quest 3 but less then a Quest 3 + the things required to have a comparable setup to the Frame without eye tracking.

I dunno man. All I can think of is every time some company makes a headset with "new thing good" or "big number good" and it's worthless because of the tradeoffs and people moan it would be good if they fixed X but you can't fix X because of the other thing.

Just Index. I originally planned to get a vive pro eye, but they discontinued it before I got a GPU. The only critical issue with the Index in 2025 is no wireless, so Valve are absolute nigger fucks for not having a native lighthouse kit for the Frame that could be ordered in a preconfigured just works mode. If someone makes a custom strap that's actually good and fixes it, I'll get it after the guinea pigs test it.

How the fuck you guys had so many headsets?

>I'm switching because I'm not retarded.

the only upside for you is no cable replacements and I've been using the same cable mine shipped with, without issue, for 3 years of on-and-off use and 2 years of near-continuous use
