The most recent example I can think of is the girls from the Witch From Mercury anime. Was there homophobes who hated yuri or lesbians and shit? Yes, but contrary to popular belief a lot of Japanese loved these two on the merit of them just "happening to be a story where two girls fell in love". And get annoyed when you start slapping lesbian flag pins and saying they are lgbtq rep. Because then it is propaganda.tldr. In the west, they don't see flags and shit as propaganda and mistakenly believe that if you hate it you might be homophobe instead of realizing how to separate the political nature of the movement from the characters/people existing. The manga is causing people on X to point out that it's hard to treat IDW as canon when the only mainline Sonic game with furry NPCs is Forces. The lore team is starting to get involved with the conversation. There have been rumors (mostly here) that IDW using mostly humans was either an editorial decision or by SOA specifically in an attempt to pander to nostalgic 90s kids who remember the franchise different from what it was in the 2000s. If this is true then it is backfiring and causing people who grew up in the 2000s to denounce IDW over something relatively inconsequential.

I like the manga solely because it might just force their hand on bringing back humans to the forefront again. It's getting egregious now how blatantly the manga can just introduce new ones and have them incorporated into the plot or have them in the background. It's egregious because of how we just had a whole spinoff about Shadow's whole backstory that involves humans. Tailstube goes out of its way to establish how humans live on the world and a new one that might also be somewhat related to the Robotniks and also is from Spagonia. It's egregious how Crossworlds showcases locations known to have humans with only furry npcs. It's egregious how IDW's depiction of spagonia is empty while Spagonia's depiction in the manga is busy and bustling with humans. The divide has to end
