Christmas Carol 2025
Rick Astley - Love This Christmas
Music Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uYCUNULp868
Lyric Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ucg3wvgk_Ac
Lyrics: https://genius.com/Rick-astley-love-this-christmas-lyrics
This year we're producing an alternative Christmas song for the thread, this time a rendition of Love This Christmas with no changes to the lyrics.
Recording starts now and ends on the 19th of November to give the video editor time to work his magic.
Contact the recorders in game or by other means to join in, either singing the chorus, a verse or the whole thing.

Recorders:
SEA - Noxsea
EU - Karkeys, Uzugu
NA - Azuth

The more recorders the merrier, if you don't feel like you or your friends are covered by the names above, contact Karkeys to join the list of recorders.
If you want to get a feel for what the finished product will be like, here's the song from last year: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bLWV08ftkBE

>How many headsets do you own?
>an ancient rift devkit someone was throwing out
I didn't know a lot about VR at the time and it's way too old to be useful now. When I wanted to get into VR I tried looking at it and realized it'd take a lot of work and setup and is too low spec to be very useful.
>a quest 3 I bought last year

I kind of want the frame when it comes out but it'd be a very wasteful purchase. I think what I'd want to see more is an off-the-shelf eye tracking kit for the quest and ability to replace the awful MetaOS with something better, but sadly neither exists. I really love VR but don't actually spend that much time with my headset on. If I was using my headset daily I could justify spending a lot more.

in roughly the right order:
>Oculus Rift DK1
didn't kickstart, bought after so didn't get free cv1
used a good bit to demo VR to friends and family early
>Oculus Rift CV1
liked Oculus and went with their offering despite no controllers
used often
>HTC Vive
ended up wanting FBT and hybrid playspaces weren't working well at the time
used often
>Valve Index
the standard lighthouse ecosystem upgrade
used often
>Oculus Quest 1
to test out wireless
not used often
>Oculus Quest 2
to test out wireless
not used often
>Pimax 5k Super
had a deal that made it cost the same as an Index HMD so took a chance, it sucked on many levels
not used often
>Vive Pro Eye
to test full setup with Vive face tracker and eyes together, was too much of a downgrade back from index to stick with for me in several aspects
not used often
>PICO 4 Pro
to test out wireless with eyes+face, it doesn't work on my wifi 7 router (wifi 7 modes are all disabled), so it's a brick until a firmware update happens
not used often
>Meta Quest Pro
to test out wireless with eyes+face based on shilling here, i hate this thing for several reasons; thankfully got a firmware update so it works on my new network setup but did break initially
not used often
>Bigscreen Beyond
lighthouse upgrade option from Index
worked very well for me after one replacement unit due to wrong IPD
>Bigscreen Beyond 2e
better optics and eyetracking
is my daily driver currently
>Apple Vision Pro (2025)
to test with and experience 4k uOLED with top tier specs
there's not much software for it, so its limited by that and Apple's dumb decisions regarding lack of arkit

the honorable non-vr mention:
>XREAL One Pro
because it basically lets me make my steam deck screen go to my face, was an early dose of what Steam Frame ideas might be
neat, but limited as its just a display mirror

the non-honorable mentions:
>Arpara 5k
scamstarter, no refunds

scamstarter, but they put out a hip tracker I never unboxed and only charged for that

Just learned there is a free prefab that allows you to adjust limb lengths in-game to improve full body tracking. Arms too short? Legs too long?

Doing it in Blender is reasonably complicated so if you're interested this seems like a much better way to try. nanochip.gumroad.com/l/avatarlimbscaling
>>
fent friday more like
>>
>>546541367
I like this for the idea of nailing the lengths in game and then transferring to Blender so that you can better match clothing.
>>
>>546541367
I don't know why something like this isn't just part and parcel of VRC. Just allow torso/limb scaling up to 15% or something on a per-avatar basis, and make it a saved setting.

I don't know why some of you morons bitch about- steam frame is superior to all similar devices and for these things on the standalone side:
>SD Card slot
none exist with that as far as I know
>native Linux (Arm) Steam OS
that opens path to so so so many things
>Steam Library/Client
untold number of games that can be played in projected (frame) screen and god know how many that can be ported to VR (3dof/6dof) if I know Valve they probably have plans for that
If not, community will surely fill in the blanks
>Support for android/arm and x86 games/softwaree
Both legally and piracy is an option and MUCH easier than any other currently
>Valve support and backing
Of all big companies who could make a VR headset they are the ones I'd trust most

On the streaming side:
>High quality dongle included
no need for expensive router- it just werks
>Steam Controller reciever included in it
Superior for most PC only games

Two flaws I see in it is the LCD screen and monochromatic cameras. To me personally they are small issues as I don't use passtrought and LCD may be acctually good.

Wow, it's an upgraded Q3 launching years after the Q3. It's exactly what leaks suggested, but it's also not worth upgrading from a Q3 to and is on the edge of being outdated on release because you already have medium-end headsets that blow it out of the water spec-wise other then they're not running Linux natively.
>>
>>546544125

Resonite Refugee Friday is now up!
>>
>>546544239
No, you total moron. Meta isa fucking retarded company that is behind shit like facebook and instagram and is represented by a fucking lizard faced zuck cuck
Valve is a company FOR gaming making platforms and hardware for gaming.
Just based on those 2 even if they sell identical hardware wise headsets- Valve is a clear winner.

And frame is much better than q3

But that is beyond your understanding
>>
>>546543454
The Steam Frame would have been more interesting to me if I could dock it like a SteamDeck, and use it like a traditional PC. It'd have been an all-in-one VR/gaming/desktop experience, even if it's limited on the 3d power side of things.
>>
>>546543454
>SD Card slot
there is no usecase
>native Linux (Arm) Steam OS
there is no usecase
>Steam Library/Client
every other headset already have access to this
>Support for android/arm and x86 games/softwaree
there is no usecase, it cannot actually run meta games as it requires proprietary calls
>Valve support and backing
valve has a track record for abandoning shit on a whim, this is not a positive
>High quality dongle included
was never an issue
>Steam Controller reciever included in it
there is no usecase

>b-b-but monochromatic camera and LCD
anyone squealing about this are clueless and just parroting what they hear from ecelebs, it does not matter at all

>b-b-but
valve is only producting 400000 units, they know themselves that it will not sell because they know themselves its not a competitive headset
the only interesting part of it is the software part and most of that is not exclusive to the frame but will work with any headset

Can't wait to see the price that dongle adds to the overall package for those of us that don't need it.

>native Linux (Arm) Steam OS
My worry here is battery life, given Steam Deck already barely holds 2-3hrs on any real gaming. Frame strap at least allows daisy chaining a battery off the battery, but I'd have preferred a more elegant solution.

>SD Card slot
It's a regular-ass slot. Not even high-speed. You know what I hate the most in VR? Load times.

I am morbidly curious what the performance penalty of FEX is though. Would be funny to see someone get vanilla Crysis 1 going on it though.
>>
>>546544576
nta but you're just wrong. It's by no means a clear winner or loser until we know the price.
You're competing with a $350 headset. To my understanding everyone is expecting the frame to be above $500. Even just at $500 that's quite the price hike for no face tracking. It might be worth it for new people coming in who have nothing, but otherwise I can't see how you justify that.

I'm hoping steam frame can reignite my love for VR. I had a lot of fun tinkering with my quest2/3/pro but everything was always hacks and meta would eventually kill it. Stuff like being able to hack in a custom home environment. A whole community sprang up making those for a couple years till meta quashed it. They even killed off the streaming home and forced me to sit in a featureless void because they hate pcvr and only want good little goys buying games for standalone and socializing in their corpo hellscape. I say this as a huge Quest Pro shill that hasn't touched their Index since because of the optic stack.

The only thing chaining your head computer to your desk computer does is give you more power to play video games. Interesting computer things do not require power to render anime bimbo jiggly backsides. Simply do not turn on desk computer. Wow. Amazing. Check out my helmet dood.
>>
>>546551270
They are just looking for an excuse, I really don't see a scenario where using this is better than a phone, I guess privacy in public but not even that because it has no headphones or jack, only speakers so people will be able to hear you gooning.

>>546551884
If you do not connect to a pc, all you have a is a weak phone with a terrible input (good luck doing anything quickly with vr controllers).
>>
>>546552103
Smartphones are EVIL. I do not use them. It runs a real COMPUTER OS. I spit on your stupid sheepslate. Weak is relative. It's running linux, not some stupid bread and circus premium dung M$ garbage. It's a powerhouse compared to most of the machines I entertain myself with.
>>
>>546552780
anon you should temper your expectations
the Frame is weaker than the Deck for anything it runs locally
>>
>>546551884
My takeaway is this, if you're interested in Linux and doing cool Linux stuff, this is going to be awesome to play around with. However, functionality wise it doesn't actually provide anything you couldn't do before through a wireless connection.
>>
>>546553028
>the Frame is weaker than the Deck for anything it runs locally
This is the thing I think a lot of people don't realize. Steam Frame was BUILT with PCVR streaming as its primary use, and battery budgeted around. Anything else is just added value, which I'm not against, but it's not a selling point for me.
>>
>>546552780
I agree with you that phones are just toys, but if your needs can be met by such a weak device, then a cheap laptop would suffice, the frame adding nothing feature wise.
If anything it just makes for a worse experience, no input, small battery (it has not hot swappable batteries and if you are going to be tethered to a wall what is the point?) and ignoring the meta influence, nothing that you could not do with a laptop and a quest 3 already
>>
>>546553195
To follow up, the best use case I can think of for this feature is bringing it on a flight with some Bluetooth headphones so you can do whatever you want in privacy.

That's pretty cool, but not a major item.
I will say though, things like this are a huge green flag for any product being released. features that they didn't really NEED to add but were added anyway because fuck it we love gimmicks. That is a trend only seen in good product lines.

R.E.P.O VR (saturday 8pm cet)

The setup is very easy, you need 3 mods (manual download):
https://new.thunderstore.io/c/repo/p/BepInEx/BepInExPack/
https://new.thunderstore.io/c/repo/p/DaXcess/RepoXR/
https://new.thunderstore.io/c/repo/p/DaXcess/FixPluginTypesSerialization/

>extract them whereever
>put the contents of the 1st mod in list, the BepInExPack mod folder, into steamapps/common/REPO
>put the contents of the folder of the other two mods into steamapps/common/REPO
(anything that gets overwritten/skipped is whatever)

Meet you then for some spooky VR kino!

Okay I don't think you understand. I used a raspberry pi 400 as my main desktop for like 6 months and the only reason I stopped was because the new blender 3.0 was coming out and I really wanted to practice (rpi400 lacks full opengl support, just embedded). For just playing around you don't even need rpi400 power.
>>546553195
I assume by functionality you mean playing VR games which has nothing to do with what I'm talking about.
>>546553646
I have so many old laptops it's a mental illness. What I don't have is a freaking computer helmet.
>>
>>546553195
I'm curious how much of a pain it'll be to interact with the camera sensors directly. Eg. To do your own AR solution, perhaps with colour overlaid from a PCIe driven camera (like Quest 3 does)
>>
>>546554091
how many players max is a lobby?
>>
>>546554254
you also should understand that the Frame is an ARM device running ARM Linux
sure it has Proton layers for x86->ARM, but that doesn't mean everything will work
its a device that will mostly run very light x86 apps and sideloaded APKs when it isn't being used to stream from a host PC
>>
>>546554376
6 by default but there's a mod that allows for more
not sure how it would work with way more players though since the game has per player upgrades and you need to share money

How was the RPi400 for general web usage? My father's old PC is several years out of date, and I have had my eye on the 500 version to replace his tower with just a keyboard.

>>546554653

Do you not know what a raspberry pi 400 is?
>>546554673
Web is always the pain point for low end systems. The 500 might be okay with one of the higher RAM options. Be very careful what you're getting into if you've never used an rpi before. They've gotten to potential desktop replacement for casual users but doing that for someone else without experience yourself might be sketchy. . I must confess I bought one but I received my new computer (framework desktop 128GB) the next day so I've barely used it.
>>546554958
you're probably closer to understanding than anyone else I guess

It speaks but doesn't form words.
I'm merely trying to impress upon you the flavor of my excitement. Curated parasite blood sucking onions green horror rectangles that feed you funny pictures in exchange for your soul aren't remotely the same thing as a computer.

what were they thinking with monochrome passthrough cameras?
>>
>>546559641
It's like nightmare vision goggles: you won't even notice it because everything looks exactly the same. But when you launch a game it feels more fun in contrast.
>>
>>546559641
I really don't know. You'd think "giant screen floating in your room" would be something they'd consider a lot more interesting to people than the empty black void it throws you in in VR instead.
>>
>>546560006
hopefully some good static valve game inspired rooms to play in so you dont need to look at the black and white outside
>>
>>546559641
the realisation that you cannot use it as a spatial computer anyway because the PPD is 1/4 of what is required
but canning the entire feature wouldnt make any sense, the same way it technically allows you to run things locally even though it doesnt have the power to actually do so with anything of value
>>
>>546560438
Half the point of passthrough for me is so I can do things like pick up my beverage or take a piss without having to take the headset on and off, a virtual environment for a flatscreen game is pointless to me
>>
>>546559641
They were thinking that passthrough is a silly gimmick that would be better left off to fit more useful features into their target price.
>>
>>546554091
why dont you use r2modman
>>
>>546559641
maybe they're true monochrome sensors. for example, leica makes their DSLRs in true monochrome version, no color filter equals insane sensor performance because color filter reduces the amount of light captured by sensor. tracking will probably do well with no colors because it's not all that much of an useful information, and the signal it works with will improve quite a lot, especially low light
>>
>>546559641
If someone develops a flip-up strap for it I can live with it. Steam frame as a whole, both in hardware and software is just one big, high-quality canvas. The price, whatever it will be, can only be justified by whatever the community creates in the aftermath.

Could they be hitting a hardware limit on concurrent cameras for the Snapdragon 8 and so reusing the front facing ones was the only option? I think it's better to have a wider tracking volume than better passthrough if given the choice. XR2 gen 2 for example boasts supporting 10 cameras and while it does have dedicated XR hardware I don't know if that increases the number of cameras supported as I thought it was mostly for depth and tracking.
>>
>>546562169
>hardware limit on concurrent cameras for the Snapdragon 8
what does that mean for the cope about the community adding a face tracking and passthrough module in the extension port?

>Could they be hitting a hardware limit on concurrent cameras for the Snapdragon 8
Snapdragon 8 can handle more sensors at once than is even necessary. It more boils down to battery life concerns. If you want colour passthrough, there'll likely be a 3rd-party webcam add-on for the front PCIe port to project colour into the passthrough space, like how Quest 3/Pro already do it.
>>
All I want is a VR headset with a fucking flick-up display. None of this passthrough nonsense.
>>
>>546543454
One thing that I have a doubt is about how long the battery will last?
Batteries are always an issue specially if you can't swap them for another one / get a new one
That's why I like that it uses AA batteries for the controllers, but the headset makes me wonder
>>
>>546565142
it does not use AA batteries for controllers it has rechargeable unit
And the battery is 5800mah and uses about 7 w for stream and up to 30 w for standalone.
So play time is anywhere from 3.5-1h
>>
>>546561790
luckily he's playing genshin and not anything that actually requires intensive inputs
>inb4 intensive inputs on controllers lmao
>>
>>546565859
Works fine for most games for me. Desktop latency is 10ms~
As long as you pair your controller with your PC instead of the headset then it's all gucci and doesn't feel laggy at all. Haven't tried hardcore platformer like super meat boy or anything but I guess they might be challenging. I know that when I tried the original steam link like a decade ago they were unplayable via streaming.

Yeah, if you haven't tested the high end IMUs out yourself before spending anything, I don't recommend buying any. I'd be surprised if they worked well enough. As for the Frame cameras, they do use an IR emitter to illuminate dark rooms, so they at least have IR capability. I don't know the camera specs so I can't tell beyond that.

You're incorrect. The last Karaoke hosted for NA hours, hosted by a person in the community in friends+ was on October 31st, last month. And even then, it only got started around 3am est.

And the Deck was around 1050 levels. That's really going to limit the kind of 2d games you could play on it in the last decade that aren't simpler indie titles that already were toaster friendly.

Listen man, being surrounded by trannies isn't the problem.
I mean it also is a problem, but I can choose to not be in instances with trannies. I can choose to block trannies. I can choose to just interact with only my friends and do cool things in VR with them.

But this kind of shit where it's forced by the developers in all of the menus and is so in your face, is something I no longer have the option to avoid.

It is being actively displayed to me any time I log on the game. I get that VRChat thinks that troons are its main userbase and it has to advertise to that, but trannies are a minority of a minority. Throwing them a bone during LBGTQ+ month or whatever is one thing but the constant tranny advertisements in the menu throughout the entire year is ridiculous.

Why are you getting so mad that LGBT people are hosting their own events? If you're only playing with your friends you have no reason to even check the public calender for events. Such a non issue
>>
>>546599657
First off, look at the first OP this chain started off of and you'll see I'm talking about LGBT tranny shit being advertised in my menu as a banner advertisement, you don't even have to go searching for it.

Secondly, the calendar was originally launched as a way for you to check when events are happening in the groups you joined.
Recently, they made a change that pushes random groups (that you aren't even a part of) events to your calendar as well instead of just the group events you're a part of. And wow what a coincidence that 80% of the random group events you arent part of is a bunch of LGBT tranny shit.
10% is something else
The other 10% was the 18 year old's birthday party that got sent to everyone last weekend (lmao)

There's a seperate event calendar just for your group events and imo the public events aren't THAT in favour of LGBT shit. Seems just that one group hosts 3 seperate events daily which kind of scews it but there seem to be a few normal events presented aswell.
>>
>>546598238

And it didn't used to be that way.
There is NO reason to have this public event bullshit that is curated only to tranny and LGBTQ+ groups to advertise to.

Stop defending shitty ridiculous pandering by the development team.
Going out of your way to get angry about tranny features is one thing, yeah.
But with the way it's been featured so much in your face that you don't even need to go looking for it, I mean come on man it's ridiculous.

To expand on this - this isn't just "2D screen in VR", it's proper built ground up for VR port, isometric view has proper scaling, there are 3D environment backdrops, the game view has 3D decorations around, UI is slightly scaled and positioned correctly, particles and animations have depth and proper 3D and sound is definitely remixed for Quest speakers.
It's pretty high effort port which is why it's so much more mind boggling that it came out of nowhere, no announcement, nothing.

Welcome to the mini-pre-Christmas season! We're back at sensibly priced sporty cars. This time: 200HP, FWD Honda Civics. At Kicevo, it's gonna be bumpy.

60 minute practice
12 minutes qualifiers
14 laps race

Afterwards some more Japanese kino TOUGE part 3.

If you just bought Assetto - grab Assetto Corsa Content Manager - a better launcher and mod manager: https://assettocorsa.club/content-manager.html To install mods: just drag and drop zip files from mega onto the Content Manager windows and click on the hamburger menu on top right. Highly recommend installing stable custom shader patch and 7-zip plugin in Content manager.

>I heard it's because they are IR cameras that don't get information about visible color. The reviews said the camera tracking keeps working even dark rooms.
Sounds like it could be a monochrome sensor, though it's not guaranteed. On one hand, those things are easy to produce, it's a normal sensor with one less layer on top, on the other hand, they're not easy to find or popular in any way or form. Could also be that they're simply using no IR filter on a normal camera, then ignoring color information somewhere early on (let's say, whatever controls cameras is running in monochrome mode for less bitrate), and then camera will work well in dark anyway as long as IR illumination blasts hard enough.

Either way, monochrome looks like a reasonable choice to me, though I'm not using passthrough so I might be missing something.

Index had decent fov though. Frame looks meh on paper, but everything so far seems to suggest it'll be good in practical use, probably the first headset that's trying to do that.
>2k LCD display, but dedicated wireless adapter and foveated bitrate
>camera-based tracking, but infrared illuminated
>no finger tracking, but magnetic thumbsticks
If this trend follows up, I expect to see a very first headset ever that cares about making it good to use rather than making it look good in a spec sheet. Who knows, maybe they went as far as making optics without any significant optical defects like glare or color shift, and giving it a bright display that doesn't smudge. Time will tell, but I'm really optimistic about it given how many little details are already confirmed to be taken into account.

my biggest worry about the frame is the audio
the speakers are in the front of the headset in the facial interface and there is no audio jack to plug in your own, the usb-c in the back is only 2.0 and doesnt support audio and its going to be mandatory for a power bank anyway
I cant see it working, there is no way it has the same spatial audio quality as the index and its gonna be a massive issue with audio leaking when you have to crank the volume to hear things properly over potential background noise

>b-but wait for some 3rd party to develop their own strap with working audio for $300+tip
yeah just like how face tracking and wireless and a bunch of other cool stuff was gonna release for the index expansion slot any day and now years later at the tail end of 2025 none of it is real. there will never be anything released for the frame either, its too difficult for hobbyists to cobble together and there is no money in it for corpos to bother with it

So, I don't know. From what I heard it's going to be another quest pro situation, where we only have 2-3 hours
>>
>>546633608
It's a 21.6Wh battery and the frame uses like 5-20W dependent. It's 4 hours maximum, 1 hour minimum. Not great but it charges with USB PD properly so it can be externally powered pretty easy.

>is it really a huge upgrade above the white elastic stock strap?
yes
anything is more comfy than the stock one imo
an "elite style" is more secure than the "halos" like the bobo
I use the bobo. I tried maybe 3 straps before I got the bobo and I have never desired to go back.
I like the hinge in the middle, I get it all adjusted and I just hinge/unhinge it to don/doff the hmd.
plus you can unhinge and move the hmd to your forehead so it doesn't burn the camera's on your dab rigs nail
jokes aside the hotswap batteries give you infinite use time if you diligently swap and charge them.
The weight that's on the bridge of your nose and brow gets moved to your head
feels more like a helmet or hardhat with the "halo" straps. The other popular style is like a set of goggles imo, they clamp onto your face more, but they're far more secure if you're spazzing out or doing backflips or something.

A $600+ Steam Frame doesn't make sense.

Meta Quest 3 is manufactured for around an estimate of $398 and that was 2 years ago. Frame even lacks many features of the Quest 3 in exchange for some good software and probably nice build quality. Both headsets have software stores and premium storage options that subsidize cost some.

So why is everyone saying they estimate $800 or other such crazy price ranges? I've no doubt some will shell out for it even at those prices because Valve fanfare is at an all-time high. I can't go on youtube without 12 thumbnails saying "Valve just changed everything..." So I'm sure people will brain-off and buy overpriced outdated hardware with their branding, but isn't anything above ~$500 for this kind of a ripoff?
>>

Quest 3's 128 model is estimated to sell at around a $30 loss, with the pricier skus actually being slightly profitable

Steam has a fucking store too, people seem to pretend like only Meta does for some odd reason

then it'll sell off the Valve branding alone, I'm sure, to dumb people with no sense or fiscal responsibility. And I'm sure it will do OK atleast, since we are living in the era of peak Valve-fan derangement, but then its just a pointless product. It doesn't compete with or convert Meta's users, just people who are already Steam fans. This graph will barely change and then Quest 4 will re-establish the gap.

>>546647392
What percentage of Steam Deck users do you think are buying games on other stores to play on their Decks? Steam doesn't need to "lock you in" but even so you can play your SteamVR games on a Meta headset anyway.

>>546647435
That $30 loss figure takes that into consideration, as well as marketing. I doubt Valve will even market their headset or need to.
>>
>>546647558
The Steam Machine's BOM is estimated to only be around $430. They can sell it for $450 and not need to worry about taking on a substantial loss.
>>
>>546647085
For PCVR the Frame easily adds more than $100 in value over a new $500 Quest 3. Dongle alone means you don't need a dedicated wifi 6 or 6e router. No need to buy virtual desktop to make the most of wireless PCVR. No need to buy an IR illuminator to play in the dark. Potentially no need for controller replacements or repairs due to the new sticks. I don't doubt it's more comfortable than the Q3 stock strap even if you'll probably replace both.

AR/XR features are a downgrade sure but Quest 3 doesn't have eye tracking either.

Played around some more. At around 1500x1500 with 100% resolution scaling, it's running at proper framerate on 3080ti. Very much worth a try if (You)'re interested, UEVR is one click injector and you can easily bind recenter to a button in there. It looks better than WRC, it also has far, far less shimmering, even just with this shitty UEVR injection. Don't want to make a mistake of hoping for good things to happen again, but this looks really promising so far, given how well it works in "we've decided not to deliver VR yet" state.

And god damn, asphalt physics in this game are really something else, it makes every other rally game I can think of look like a joke. You get this little feeling of rubber gripping like in ACEvo, apply too much throttle and wheel inertia will spin your wheel out of control even if you'll lift off, the overall feeling of gripping and losing grip is to die for. And then you also get all of those little wheel rubbing noises, suspension squeaks, supercharger in 037 feels vividly different from any other car and instant power surge threw me off balance more than once until I've learned to be gentle with it. This is one hell of a good sim, I'm really, really looking forward to it.
>>
>>546664939
do you have to use a mouse for UI like old AC

I like how EA WRC actually supports controllers even racing wheel buttons
>>
>>546665301
You can bind wheel buttons to UI selection, and then entire game can be controlled with wheel only. UEVR is also handling main UI well, so effectively it feels like WRC in terms of UI experience.

That's kinda been the status quo for Vampire Survivors in general, although I doubt the Quest 3 can handle the game if I were able to bring my PC save over with the characters that I broke with a million+ eggs on them.

Why did the Frame need to have Standalone hardware? Isn't it just needlessly driving up the price?

Wouldn't it still be better to another background instead, like full on dark for immersion instead of your room?

I guess if you decide to play outside might be nicer to look at a more colourful environment but black and white should be good enough to tell if people are close to you.

The marketing push for the Frame is jaw-dropping. None of these YouTubers are saying anything negative about it, not even explaining that it is really not revolutionary in the market, instead totally regurgitating Valve's marketing demonstration to lie that this thing is changing the landscape at all. It's incredible.

that's because using the headset tells you more than the specs on paper
>>
The Frame will cost 350$.
Within 3 months it will get modularity support in forms of full face tracking, replaceable headphones each for less than 125$ each.
Within 12 months they will release their own set of inside/out cameras with tracking that syncs only to the steam frame for 50$ per tracker, supporting up to 7 additional trackers. They will not require light, do not care about occlusion and the quality will surpass vive/tundra and have a battery life of 24 hours.

I'm an insider.

youtubers aren't people. We're living in the era of peak Valve fan derangement right now, and youtubers have discovered that if you post positive about Valve you get lots of positive engagement. You just need to post gabe's face and "HE WON" on the thumbnail and it will get clicks. Anytime Valve does something, it gets exaggerated praise then people forget about it. Just think of Deadlock's reveal. Rows of positive videos about it, huge hype for a week, now its settled down and is bleeding users again. People who don't give a shit about VR have to pretend this is industry defining for awhile, because its Valve's.

>>546674046
and youtubers who aren't triyng to get on the gabe sucking algo are saying its an experience very similar to the Quest 3

It feels like much more of an actual simulator in terms of physics. I was impressed with the way car handles, couple times I caught myself with "oh right, this thing happens in reality and I've experienced it, but it's the first time I ever got to notice it in a racing sim". Mostly small stuff, like this rubbery feel of grabbing the grip with your tyres when you hit something grippy enough, or spinning wheels even after releasing throttle because wheel inertia keeps spinning the wheel despite no longer receiving engine power. Visually, it looks a bit better in webms than it does in headset, I'm afraid. I'm playing in pretty low resolution and on nearly lowest game graphics settings, you might also be visually fooled by stuff like HDR working overtime for VR standards and over-exposing details around the sky while underexposing car interior (I think this is what >>546676913 describes). This looks great on gameplay video, but doesn't feel too good in VR. But eh, such is life when you're using a VR injector for a game with no real VR mode.

But yeah, it looks pretty good. Those webms are all very low settings + medium textures + low vegetation details (as opposed to very low). It doesn't shimmer too much even on low resolution, it looks okay with AA off. This game sure is pretty.

No one makes PCVR games because it isn't worth it. Valve is very obviously trying to crack meta's stranglehold on VR. Making it easy for devs to port their standalone quest titles to the Frame is an important part of that.

an answer beyond "get a pc"
Get yourself a vrchat account, not meta, not steam, not vive, an actual full vrchat account. With any other device (yes it can be your phone) log into vrchat's website and open the link within the same browser. Hop on vrchat (inside your quest) and log into this account. Now back to your browser, there should be a button written "Invite Me", hit that and wait till you receive an invite inside vrchat.
but please do get a (or use your) pc if you plan to join any vrchat instances posted in here.
>>
>>546688760
>how is this hobby that has such high PC hardware demands
I'm still on a 1060gtx. 90% of VR games run fine on it, especially most modern PCVR releases, due to being anchored to versions built with Quest specs in mind first. People overestimate the actual specs needed to run most shit unless you got razor-sharp vision and need 150% supersampling on your output.

that's insane.

really thought this company would have gotten its shit together after the disastrous quality control and issues with their first headset
you'd especially think they'd be able to get it under control when they release basically the exact same headset a second time years later.
but somehow I'm hearing even more horror stories with people that have the BSB2 than I ever heard with people that had the BSB1.

can't stand this company, can't stand their lying CEO either. it felt like such an awesome headset on paper but the reality is just non-stop quality control issues, subpar display panels with lots of ghosting/persistence, low brightness, and a completely meme 3d printed facial interface that doesn't work for most users.
>>
>>546725914
Kind of sucks because I won the lottery on all the other defects. The glare was acceptable, I didn't seem to be getting insane hue shifting or ghosting, the insert was printed fine, clarity was great, it was getting enough power draw. And one bad slight straightening of the cable and apparently the entire cable is dead. And because of course the cable most likely to be bent in different directions is yet another slightly custom one so you can't just get something off Amazon to replace it.

Knowers of things, any chance they release an oled frame a year later or something? Or upgrades in general? Maybe we can have strap upgrades and maybe color passtrough via the nose expansion slot, but I don't think we're getting lense upgrades aside from a whole new model, are we? As it is it's not gonna be a substantial G2 upgrade...

But bros, watching anime and media in general on LCD in that low res is gonna be so ass. They couldn't just get bigshit begone lenses? I guess the FOV is ok at least. For simracing at high speeds though, wont we get screen tearing or something since it's streaming?

I hate VR so much bros. It just fucking sucks. We need 10 more years of development. New headsets either suck or the current PC hardware we have has to run their displays at 30 fps. Games aren't optimized for shit. Games don't even exist in the first place. Where's the VR MMORPG? Where's the racing game that doesn't stutter like shit?
>>
this garbage is gonna stop getting developed or itll be in the exact same spot as it is
>>
>>546747387
>Where's the racing game that doesn't stutter like shit?
eternal Assetto Corsa, iRacing, LMU, PCars also runs really well in VR. AC should be enough for just about anything, given how much of a mod platform it became through years
>>
>>546733470
fuck shillseeker. the guy LITERALLY admitted on his livestream one night that he purposefully overhypes every single VR headset and every VR game to get more clicks on his youtube channel.

all of these vr youtubers fucking suck and this douchebag is the worst of the bunch
>>
>>546747387
VR MMROPG would be so good, shame that it'd basically be unprofitable in the current landscape. No company is going to waste resources on making a decent MMORPG when the active player count would probably stay below a thousand.

Atleast FFXIV seems to have a VR mod for exploring the world atleast
>>
what the hell guys all the youtuber told be the bigscreen beyond 2 was the best ever and now they tell me it's the steam frame???
>>
>>546750238

>>
>>546750362
lmao
cashing in that big darshan shankar paycheck to shill bigscreen once again
wasn't he also not let in on any of the steam frame early testing and was bitching about it to his supporters in his discord during the announcement?
>>
i still can't get over the fact that bsb is a fucking 75hz headset, slideshow goggles for 1200 dollars
>>
>>546750528
why wouldn't they let him in? he's a guy with a channel so whats the problem
>>
>>546750567
not only is it 75hz slideshow goggles but you also get some of the worst persistence ever because of the shitty OLED panels they use so it feels even worse than 75hz when you turn your head fast.
>>
>>546750238
The only tubers who think the steam frame is the greatest thing ever are people who are very small or not that into VR at all. Everyone else is whelmed. It'll be nice
>>
>>546750595

>>546751584
NTA you replied to but wtf is this, the better business bureau website?
they're a scam because look at what they actually use this donation money for like the OP provided in their screenshot.
gender-affirming hair removal to 90% minorities and 10% white people (as said by their own statistics)
bizarre ass charity.
donate to something more meaningful like kids with cancer charities or some shit instead.
>>
>>546751938
>donate to something more meaningful like kids with cancer charities or some shit instead.
You can literally say that to every other charity that isn't focused on kids with cancer.
>>
>>546752127
>You can literally say that to every other charity that isn't focused on kids with cancer.
i mean not really because you can at least most likely say that the other charities are focused on another noble cause

gender affirming hair removal tranny charity specifically for black and hispanic people isn't exactly a fucking noble cause
>>
>>546751584
that has history. iirc the founders embezzled celeb donation money for vacations and it wasnt even a 24/7 hotline, then when people started catching on they got so mad that they flew to the philippines to stalk the owner or ki**f*rms
>>
>>546752360
oh yeah i forgot about this.
in addition to being a useless charity focusing on hair removal for trannies they were also involved in that controversy for embezzling funds and something to do with their trans hotline being completely misleading/dysfunctional iirc
>>
>>546569817
Really out of everything you could spend the money on, hair removal? Not hormones or mental health help but hair removal for the Blacks? Great prioritization guys
>>
>>546739903

Guys so uhhh the foveated rendering on the frame wont give you a performance increase, right? It's just so the streaming would be smoother, but wont give me more eff pee ess? Not sure if I can run these racing games at 120 fps to enjoy the 120hz option, and using frame generation is ass and glitchy, especially when I'm going 300 km/h in the highway in my virtual supra.
>>
>>546756542
Yeah, it's meant to resolve the issue streaming always has, that you would need insane bitrates to not get artifacting, way more than any wifi standard could handle. By putting the portion of the feed you can actually focus on at a much higher bitrate than the rest, you can send a much clearer signal streaming through wireless without image quality degradation. Games will still be rendered at the exact same quality/framerate before being sent to be streamed.
>>
>>546756542
some games do support quad views foveated rendering, and popular headset having eye tracking might make it more popular
>>
Any reason to use the new Vulkan encoder on WiVRn? I can't imagine it being more efficient than the other hardware encoders, but I might be wrong.
