Also made a dissolve shader that melts the snow on cars in case I wanted cars that looked like they'd been moved recently.

Around 100 games release on Steam alone EACH DAY.
About 700 games in the week around your release.
AAA release? Successful release AAA or indie, in your genre? BOOM you are done.
Also, not only are you competing with other new releases, but the entire backlog of games on every system a player owns. :)

Take all the "indie success stories" you can think of in the past 10 years and divide it by the number of devs in that time who have tried (again, 100 games a day, 3000 a month) and there's your historical likelihood of "making it."

Steam cut, higher self-employment taxes, no benefits, no retirement, AND to top it all off: Your sales diminish over time, so even if you hit this "mediocrity lottery" you'll have to do it all over again in a couple years.

Why would you use other containers when std::vector exists?
I spam std::vector everywhere, only sometimes I have to use a map or a list.
You can use std::vector even if you need to remove elements from the middle, as long as you don't do that too often and vector isn't too big in bytes.

Lists are horrible they are bad for cpu cache, you have every list item in different memory location, cpu needs to jump a lot.

Map is sometimes useful if you need to access data with a key like a string.

I don't even know any other containers because I use std::vector 90% of times.

Back when I was a wee lad in the year of 2013 I think I was working on a game project with some friends I met online. We were using Torque.
I set up a file server and we worked on this shit for months.
Being the stupid kid I was I foolishly kept everything on the server with no local backups.
There was this fucking leaf in our group and one day he went full schizo and overwrote everything. That was it. All our work was gone.
Now I back everything up daily on three separate devices and I also hate Canadians.

Weekly is a full project backup because Zbrush/Maya/Substance Painter files are huge and backing up several hundred gigabytes takes too fucking long.

Progress! This week:
-Updated all the materials for the azteca inspired buildings, now have cool designs and glow in the dark.
-Added windows to the primal style buildings. Just took forever to figure out something that didn't look like out of place trash.
-Updated models on most azteca and primal style buildings. Lowered tri count by 20 -50 % on each.
-Updated water materials, effects and flow maps. Having a bit of a hard time hitting the sweet spot of PS2ish/Retro and using some of the nicer water effects from the last decade. What do (you) think?
-Rescaled my landscape material for the city area. I was stupid when I first made it and Unreal makes the mesh WAY too dense by default. Tuning that has been a chore.

Next up is finishing up the actors for all the max level city areas, then propagating those changes down to the lower upgrade levels to make it congruent.

Feels like wasting time, but the vibe of the city area is pretty important, as it's where you spend about 20% of the game time.
