Later without warning, we enter her room and find out she didn't make it and is permanently dead because of her gunshot wound. Not a heroic death but a death that really shakes up what is possible and not possible in the future. Something that reinforces that even a Nikke's life is fragile and they can die at anytime, instead of, the only way a Nikke will die is by heroically and intentionally taking a hyper beam from the strongest being in existence.
