The one good thing about freekits being strong is it helped eliminate my gear fear. In D&D I was always so scared of losing my good set, because I knew I'd have to go back in with the most garbage weapons ever and be forced to quietly sneak around all game, take 30 seconds to kill anything, and if I started getting chased by players I knew I'd be dead. I will admit I spent an embarrassing amount of time looking for a battery near the red tower but I'll blame it being late at night over saying it was well hidden. Next time you're struggling try asking a nearby raider if they know. When everyone was looking for androids in montis we had people running others around showing them. Was really nice.
