It's very noticeable how little motion Tangle and Whisper are actually getting post the reveal. Like now that all the commotion about them being in a console game died down, it's basically gone back to the way things were before. No one is interested in finding out their past or story, fanart didn't really increase that much compared to amount of art Nights is getting from both the west and japan. People really only wanted them in for the gotcha and thats it. Nobody cares about Tangle and Whisper anymore. There's no hype around them, nothing memorable besides being from IDW. They've been fumbled so hard by Evan. Especially Whisper. She's the kind of character that should be seen as cool or remember for her cool sniper moments but she barely has anything like that. Surge would've gotten more motion than this. In fact, I think Tangle and Whisper are just a stepping stone to getting her. No one genuinely wanted them

I played Sonic Daybreak, all 3 stages. It had a lot of great ideas but ultimately it's still in the "good for a fangame" category. I have a lot of thoughts but here are just a few1) The game's camera is fucking terrible.2) The mechanic that lets you spin to speed up while grinding on a rail is fucking awesome.3) The automated segments make no sense because they still allow you to control Sonic, yet Sonic is a dot on the screen at those points which is disastrous.4) The way the tricks work feels really good, probably better than any trick system in Sonic so far because it feels substantial to the game and not purely for show or some half baked QTE.5) Considering the way the levels curve quite sharply, the game could really benefit from having a drift.Overall I think anyone who's a fan of the actual games (all 2 of you) should at least give it a try. I'm sure the team's going to smooth over the cracks to make it something truly special.

Why are purist fans such a small thing in the Sonic fandom anyways? You can say nobody likes IDW or whatever but the amount of people who make it a point to seethe about everything that is "OOC" or "anti wind" or not japanese is plain out smaller than the amount of people who are watching AOSTH today. Hell they probably all know each other at this point. This franchise has only gotten more and more western influence over time, especially with IDW and the movies. I don't really understand spending so much energy trying to get a rundown on a pure and clean west-free Sonic. The only place you will get that in the modern day is the manga. The manga isn't the games. The next game will include references to the current active western material. We know this because the last four games have had references to the current active western material and it became more and more pronounced each time. This is very much not a pure Japanese franchise.
