Katawa Shoujo came out during my last year of high school and I obsessed over it for maybe a year or two and then forgot about it.Today I still spend all my life in the same little bedroom in which I first played it. It’s my first time playing- was it normal to end up with Emi on my first run? I took the nurse’s warnings pretty seriously and ended up with her when Hanako would have been my first choice. I ended up loving her though, and it’s putting a damper on my current playthrough knowing that she’s going through all of that and not having someone be there for her. I am glad I figured out Hanako’s route (despite being tempted into choosing Lilly…) but seeing her smile in the library makes it worth it. I have to give 4 Leaf credit, I didn’t expect to have my heartstrings pulled this much in a game made on 4chan of all places. (Also, is Shizune so bitchy on her route as well? She’s the only one I don’t really like due to how she treats everyone else.)

Newfag from the other day here. I never wanted this. I wanted to return to this thread and write about how I enjoyed the party, how I loved the jazz, how Hanako looked so cute with her hat. How the game filled a void in my soul. I should have slowed down, and appreciated the narcotic bliss of ignorance for a while longer.But I couldn’t, I cared too deeply to stop. I needed more. I fought my weariness and stayed up to see her story through. I wish so desperately to go back. I feel so terrible, I even failed at first. It’s not rational how badly this has given me the feels. I want to apologize, I want more. I want to see her truly smile and not have Hisao colossally fuck up. The first time, I knew something was wrong with the short stilted writing, but merely thought I had fucked up when the credits rolled early. I truly KNEW I fucked up when they talked in the park. I almost wish the aforementioned schizo was right, that the pain I now feel could be described as a fanservice trope I wasn’t the most fond of. Not that the reality was so much worse. In hindsight both of their reasoning would make sense in their shoes, but I want to slap them and force them to be honest. But how could you see that the first time? I wish things had gone differently, that if I open the game again and see her again that I might be able to change it all. That it would go on after the true ending and I could see things as they are meant to be. But instead, I sit here listening to her theme as I write these words in anticipation of posting them when I awake. Forgive me, for shitting up the thread. I know not how else to cope with this. I will certainly keep playing, but I think I’m going to take a few days off. I need to reflect.

Why was it so hard to start Shizune’s route? I think I have the entire first week burnt into my brain at this point. I ended up dying the first time around just because I play board games with slightly more strategic forethought than a world eater. I hated being mean to Lilly. (On that note, I don’t think I’ll ever be able to tell Kenji that Hanako isn’t cute.) If I’m still not locked in after having joined the council I’m saying fuck it and moving on to Rin, since I at least know how to get there at this point. On a positive note, I am unable to think about eating something unhealthy without picturing a scowling Emi going “No! Bad Hisao!” It doesn’t always stop me, but it works often enough that I’m on track to lose a few pounds if this keeps up.

Weird question but... Back in "the day" did KS have effects of like, snow falling outside your window and such? I had to redownload KS for the first time in well over 10 years recently because I got a new computer and I noticed that for the first time, feel like this never happened before any of the other times I played the older version of the game. He's really only there as comic relief so I can't blame whoever wrote his scenes that they opted to go for humor for a majority of his scenes. I remember they did like 1/3 of all the Act 1 writing.What I think it really is is that we all wish there was more KS content for us to experience and revisit, and see closure for everyone, not just for Kenji but for all the katawas. For example Hanako's ending, when Hanako kisses Hisao in that very last moment of her good (canon) ending, all we get is a CG of her kissing him and some students from Yamaku in the background. Whatever happened to Kenji? Or in Lilly's route, when you get the epilogue and Lilly and Hisao are together walking through that field of flowers (I forget if it was flowers or a farm), what happened to Kenji and all the others? Did Hisao just forget about them after the school year ended and the game was over? That's sad. We, or at least I do, naturally wanna know more.I dunno. I guess we all have our headcanons for what became of every katawa and character in the game after the credits rolled over, but I wish we had more. If I was a more competent writer I'd like to write fanfiction about it.
