Give him the Potent Robes, the 18 DEX braces, the +3 Initiative shield and you have him at +7 Initiative without Alert and 20 AC. That combined with Booming Blade (and hopefully his Infernal Rapier) means he can switch between melee and ranged on whim, which allows him to use Arcane Acuity and Synergy gear in a meaningful way. Slap the Advantage on Attack Ring on him for extra gravy and Wyll can practically solo lots of encounters with an improved defense (Mage Armor is a must there's an invocation that allows him to cast it for free, Mirror Image can be picked as a spell etc.).

Technically she's not a goddess in a divine sense but an extremely powerful Undead whose area of expertise is obviously death. Ketheric and the others are "just" the Chosen of their Gods. Basically extraordinary individuals who piqued the interests of these powers due to their activity and devotion to them, and thus got hand-picked and elevated into their avatars. Their might often exceeds what regular humans are capable of but that's mostly given (and can be taken away) by their Gods. So Vlaakith "wishing your party to die" is different as she uses her own power for that. Just progress the game and you'll find out more about all this.
