New characters failing to live up to the standards set forth by the standard banner characters is a multilayered issue. One of those layers is the fact that Yuki (and presumably Chizuru) are balanced around the Seasonal artifacts and Forbidden cards... when the Standard banner characters did not have this handicap limiting their potential. These devs have no idea how to make something fun, they just copied a preexisting game. The Seasonal Chaos is worse than the Chaos that already existed. The new characters are worse than the launch units. The issue with the game design is EVERYWHERE, not just in the characters. The Season is less fun than the base game without Seasonal content. The new characters are balanced around this Season. They just need to stop doing that shit. Imagine if Yuki didn't need to be balanced around equipment and Forbidden cards that literally everyone else who isn't balanced around those things can also use. We wouldn't be running into the "brick" issue.

If this was a real videogame and not a gacha they'd have already nerfed Mei Lin and Tressa. This is why gacha design is hard, people constantly want stronger characters and refuse all nerfs, and they're justified for it financially to an extent. So you HAVE to very carefully make sure your starter characters are the absolute bottom of the power scale. If you fuck up it can take YEARS to naturally creep up to their level, and if you try to rush it you just read so turning your game into gameplay-less P2W slop.
