Critical role has massively ruined the rpg space in both table top and video game form. Now almost every game has to have a group of super mary sue companions that all have the weight of the world on their shoulders and every MC has to be super special and save the world. I think baldurs gate three's story is a good way to look at all the negative effects this has caused. they also made shitty e cleb cameos and shitty backer mary sues way more common it was already a thing but really rare (like the ign reporter that guessed started as a journalist in mass effect) but they shifted the Overton window from something like that being really rare to common.
