Learn to pick your fights, don't hesitate to run away and don't reload unless you die, any fight you survive makes you stronger. Building an outpost will attract trader caravans and hostile raids. Building one too early might be more than you can handle. Pressing F1 will open the tutorial screen. Mousing over the stats screen and HUD will reveal useful tooltips and additional info. If the enemies feel too difficult - get crossbows for your units. And don't be afraid of the RP autism - engage in it whenever you can. And do unlock the sliders.

That was specifically in reference to the mid-late crisis cascade brought on by what is most likely the HN (or occupying imperials) taking the sword to the West. Upon the death of the Western Queen or as the conflict reaches a clear "the queen is doomed" situation - the Southern Hive will finally activate and pour across the island.

The notion the Hives are weak is a strategic positioning the West adopted to survive. If that fall apart it signals to the South that there's no time for caution. Their defensive posture is intended to give them time to expand their base of control (throughout the Southeast) without stirring enmity towards the empire, of which, the West interfaces with on a regular basis. The death of the West's Queen means the caravans traversing the empire instantly are beset with the emergency pheromone response and so too will the South recognize the change in the air. What comes then is a steamrolling over the regions between themselves and the former domain of the West. Whatever destroyed the West must face the same.

I'm on my first play through the game, and it has been chaos. Every type that wanted to join, just joined. I have probably too many people and haven't found things for them to do. I can see why people do solo characters, or a solo life-form with robot sidekicks. In a way, it lets you just focus on the one thing.

No, but I don't think it would be very hard to make a mod like that. The way Kenshi's level curve works is that stats closer to 0 levels very quickly while stats closer to 100 level very slowly, I don't use the FCS much myself but it probably can be tweaked to cap at 20 instead. There are already mods that change exp gain.

Gut is absolutely legit and a perfect staging base for going against United Cities. Great fertility, great iron resources, okay copper. Lots of beak things, which is a double edged sword. Natural base defense, lots of potential meat and leather. On the other hand, dangerous, as they roam in rather large groups there.

I've played a lot of Kenshi, I have never once heard of an instance of relations with a faction naturally lowering. Are you absolutely certain that it isn't a mod, or you killed a Shek flagged with "Shek Kingdom"?

Scouted into the fog, but just not seeing the kind of leader that I had found at the bases. Beheaded a regular fog prince, but i don't expect anything to result from it.

Sent Stumpy and Slink to a place on the map that looked different, and it appears to be some kind of derelict mining facility. Almost weird how sparce the fogmen have been since I sent them into the fog. I expected a huge horde, or a capital or something.

Maybe it's still out there someplace.

Took the heads of 4 fog prince and sold them in mongrel, followed by a friendly visit to their robot shop.

Then sent Stumpy to the swamp to see if they might have some of those metal hats that the Black Dragon Ninja used to wear. Haven't found any yet, but a robot wanted to join. His stats are terrible, but at least I don't have to feed him.

So here is the experimental scheme I'm hatching, which maybe others have done before anyhow...
I was thinking of farming on borrowed land with their own plots and wells, and mining out in the middle of nowhere, and then carting the raw material back to a city building for all processing. No fixed base to be raided.

If i chain a bunch of instructions together, the characters should do it, but I know the instructions start to fail if the distance gets too far. So that's where the platoon comes in. If I put a lowest level task to follow someone, than when they finish with their work in one location, they should track to the platoon. Then when the platoon wanders near the other tasks, the character jumps out and gets back to their chore list. Kinda like getting on and off a bus.

Magic-healing really just averages the damage stats of all of the target's body-parts, and costs the caster 5% of their blood.
Maybe some necromancy to bring back dead teammates, but caster gave them half their remaining hitpoints while doing it.

Lopped limbs re-attached with magic but have a constant slow-decay so you have to constantly heal them.

In that case the idea might be a bit doomed.

I'm pretty sure that they wouldn't despawn, if I sacrificed a character to just always be following them around. I could conceivably train a medic that way. But even then, I need them to path out to the place i want to harvest, and then also return back to the same city. if they don't travel such a path, the idea of following them is just DOA.

I could still maybe do my remote harvesting without following a legion, if there were harvesting places in the middle that I could chain along. My characters could follow each other from one place to the next, as long as each jump wasn't too far from the last.

I know it is the least efficient way to farm and mine, but I kinda like the idea of doing something cheesy, and they kinda need the strength and athletics exercise anyhow.

Why not have them on "follow" at the lowest order with the target being any persistent NPC that doesn't sleep? Maybe a hireable companion in the local bar. The follow order seems to work well at any distance.

The harvester that was nearest to the city absolutely could do that, but they probably wouldn't need to if they are still in chore range.

If i had a setup like:
City ------- Iron ------ Copper ------ Farm.
Each some distance away from the next, but none at an impossible range from the prior in the chain.

iron is near enough to chore to the city without help, so that kinda has to be minimum for the whole thing to work. I can have them return to the city by following someone, but getting them out to the iron mine would take some extra. Either they are near enough to the city to both go to work and return from work, or they have to follow some NPC that is in the middle, near enough to both ends of the jobs.

For copper. a city NPC would return them from the Copper mine, but I would need someone that was away from the city to get them out to the mine again to resume work. If the Iron mine was near enough to the copper mine, they could potentially follow an iron worker out and then resume copper work.

The farm would be further away still, so they would conceivably follow a copper worker around as their lowest level.

More importantly - you cannot rely upon squads to necessarily guide you to where you want unless you've specifically tinkered with their package scheduling. Yes, you can setup what you want in some form, which is a squad that basically comes and goes from a town on a daily basis? Sure, if you generously pad the "go home and go to sleep" with the patrolling it might work. Problem instantly arises with you can't necessarily force the patrol to head towards your operations unless you also have a single route directly in line with their guaranteed path.

Asking a touch too much for the tooling & access we have.

This mod is cool, but I really don't think Cat-Lon would be calling you "asshat" in dialogue. Still though, holy fuck this dude is strong as fuck. 100 in most stats.
I was thinking, before, about simply destroying Holy Nation and Shek Kingdom, but now I'm thinking of destroying every major faction and fulfilling Cat-Lon's ideals.
Gonna grab Tinfist soon. Will post more when that happens. I gotta delimb and unlock Cat-Lon's hidden potential.

This is why I like the Crab Raiders.
If their raid fails, they don't just suicidally keep attacking until they're all dead over and over. They stand up, help each other, and retreat, carrying the ones that can't walk.

Grass pirates do try to heal each other, but then it's back to attacking the 16-wheeler that just demolished their entire raiding party. They'll even attack barehanded, or in chains if they're enslaved. Don't even escape if you free them.

In short, they're lemmings, and they're too fucking stupid to have the numbers they do.

Except when it comes to how to survive into the future. The Okrankite religion is rotting out and the Guild are two steps away from driving the dagger in deep enough for it to be fatal. They're meant to be washed away by the rising merchant bankers who have been working since the days of the Red Rebellion to overturn the status quo. The current Holy regime is a cat chasing lasers - wholly guided by the baits being presented to them. Pointless warfare leads to resource and manpower exhaustion, compounded then by the real potential for overextension and multiple fronts opening up with multiple hostile actors involved. It amounts to what Yamdu articulates, such that with a helpful push the wavering Okranites could be turned into an enslaved populace by shifting a few pins into place, then the river valley is firmly in the nobility's hands.
