>What the heck is this
/indie/ is the general for all indie games, such as A Hat in Time, Animal Well, Baba Is You, Balatro, Battle Brothers, Cave Story, Celeste, CrossCode, Cultist Simulator, Darkest Dungeon, Darkwood, Dead Cells, Disco Elysium, Environmental Station Alpha, FTL, Hades, Hollow Knight: Silksong, Hotline Miami, LISA, Lobotomy Corp, Loop Hero, Machinarium, Monster Train, Noita, Nuclear Throne, OFF, OneShot, Rain World, Shovel Knight, Slay the Spire, Starsector, Subnautica, Sunless Skies, The Witness, Void Stranger, etc., as well as other games that just don't fit in any other general such as Atelier, Pillars of Eternity, and Valkyria Chronicles. /jrpg/ is welcome. Idle, roguelite, shmup, 4x / RTS / city-builders, and RPGMaker games are cool too.

Mobile or consoles, Flash or Unity, freeware or early access. This place is a home for the indie game community and indie and obscure games that don't have a home. So be free to talk and share all your hidden gems, forgotten games and starving devs here.

>Can I talk about games that already have a general?
We mostly discuss games that are not popular enough for their own threads, however, all indie games are allowed. So talk about them if you want, but don't overdo it since you already have other generals for that.

I only used autosave. It was honestly fairly easy.
>steal outfit from the other flat

>knock down the guy watching the camera
>steal screwdriver
>fuck with the electric socket on the terasse

>put tape in magnetoscope to lure Sylvio in, hide in crate
>once he's alone, knock him out, drag him under the big statue, shoot the chain
>then sneak in laboratory through door below the little golf course
>poison the rats to get first guy off the virus

I got in the same way, poisoned Sylvio's food and kicked him off a cliff while he was puking his guts out. His body was found immediately, but it was fine as people thought it was an accident.
For Francesca, I stole the golf instructor's phone and set up a private meeting with her in her bedroom.

Now that I've finished my grind. Let me talk about butterflies, ladybugs and stinkbugs in terraria because those 3 things are surprisingly inherently related.
You see, at 7:30pm every day terraria sets 2 values. Stinkbug chance and butterfly chance. First there is a 1/3 chance that the value for butterfly is set to 999999, effectively making butterfly impossible to spawn naturally. In that case, stinkbug has a 1/5 chance to also be set to 999999 too. If that fails, stinkbug chance is set between 1 and 13. 1 being extremely common, almost every critter becomes stinkbug if possible and 13 being mildly common, you will see a few but not many.
If that first 1/3 chance fails, stinkbugs will be set to 999999 and butterflies will have a 1/5 chance to be set to 999999. If that 1/5 chance fails, butterflies will be set to a value between 1 and 20. 20 being so rare that you'll likely won't even see a single butterfly that day.
Effectively that means you can have stinkbugs or butterflies but not both. It's set at the end of the day instead of the beginning. If you're hunting for gold butterfly or tree nymphs, having a good butterfly day is almost mandatory. The difference between a bad butterfly day and a good butterfly day is roughly 5 butterflies vs 200 butterflies. That's a bit of a pain... BUT there is a funny trick. The value is set at dawn (7:30pm) like I said... But it's also set when you load the world. So you can just save and quit if you see stinkbugs to reroll your chance. In fact, good butterfly days are so good that it's entirely worth rerolling until you get one. How do you know you got one? You'll know. You likely won't see more than 5 normal critters in the entire day.
What about ladybugs? Well, they just use butterfly chance as a value. If wind speed is above 20mph, ladybugs will replace butterfly. That's it. Celebration mk2 divides the butterfly chance value by 2, effectively doubling the butterfly chance. But it still needs to pass the original checks.

Grew tired of the Hitman campaign so I started faffing around in Freelancer Alpha One Dash One mode.
I'm not quite sure how it works: you get to keep some weapons, but not all of them? I start the missions without the piano wire, but I made sure to always grab a screwdriver and an English Wrench and I always lose them.

About the only things I can think of worth mentioning are for if you want to make the most out of your year, if you just want to putz around then do whatever.
Study for your exams, level 3... (was it Intelligence or did P5 call it something else?) will give you a chance to score highly in the second exam if you've paid attention and give the correct answers, which will help you socially.
Make sure you always take a new book out of the school library any time you don't have one or haven't read through one yet, there's a couple of rainy days where there's nothing better to do and you can read them on the train. There's a book on how to read other books faster (2 day books take 1 day, 3 day books take 2 days) in the school library but it is available for *literally* only one random day in the entire game, I think it was June 1st going by memory but I could be way off, so absolutely don't miss that being available if you want to comfortably read all the books in the game for all their bonuses.
Cleaning up the cafe buffs your social link with the cafe owner if you've nothing better to do.
>>
>>549492371
There's probably other bits and pieces but I'll be damned if I remember them exactly. Oh yeah playing darts and billiards with everyone is important, make sure to get a perfect three round finish with everyone in darts as that will max them out in one day instead of two, you can't do this on the first visit sadly and there's one other guy you can't do this with, but you can max out that bonus with everyone in the shortest time by letting your darts partner always be the one to hit 0 by leaving the required remaining score low enough for them to finish on their next throw and answering the given question correctly.
>>
>>549492371
I've played the previous personas, I was more asking about anything specific from 5 or royal.
>in the school library but it is available for *literally* only one random day in the entire game
Holy shit that's even more retarded than in 4 where you get it at basically the end of the game when you've read every other book on your own.

Crypt Custodian was fun but after finishing and thinking about it the reason was 100% of gameplay because the rest is nonsensical with bad payoff at the end.
Not a single reason why any of the enemies exist but they sure look like Link's Awakening nightmares. The big bad final boss had actual no real motivation and got zero punishment for behaving like a spoiled brat.
But the maps are super fun to explore, combat feels nice, bit of some smaller puzzles and fun unlocks that open up the map while enhancing combat andor platforming.
Only minor complaint about I would give is that it went with soulslike spawnwells and big damage and low health with zero health drops and potions. But they put those wells every few map tiles so you just blast like a hog into any direction, die and explore the other way since progress saves. Would have prefered way less save wells and limited heart drops from grass cutting.

I spent ages at exactly the same point in this one, you can't just expand inwards from the edges, need to build a bridge in the middle. Of the five paths for reaching the left side, not all of them work, follow a process of elimination.
Be careful, there is one which seems to work leftwards, but cannot connect properly when extending back to the right.

The king wants to drink the piss because the witch told him it was the piss of a little girl (who is supposedly 300 years old but that's a whole different rabbit hole), but in reality it's the piss of a male orc.
The witch is lying about the source of the piss because she expects the king to be enough of a pervert to want to drink girl piss, but not so much of a pervert he'd want to drink man piss. She's probably dealt with a lot of perverts in the past.
The orc sells his piss to the witch. He's confused about why the witch wants to buy it, but not so confused he'd refuse to sell it. He either doesn't know his piss is magic, or just refuses to think about the possibility of someone drinking piss.

Not irl though. A lot of this game's world is still a mystery to me and honestly I love it, I feel nostalgic for the time when I understood even less. Pretty sure the only reason is because I hadn't found another lrm20 to slap unto, and I think it's just because I updated my computer to a new one like 3 years ago more or less because my older one was starting to struggle really hard (ie motherboard was so old you literally couldn't find compatible cards for it), sorry wish I could be of more help.

Just be wary that while it's a good mech for suppression and multi-targetting, the fact it has fuckall armor and a ton of ammo make it quite stressful to use, as any hit from any enemy can and will most likely result in catastrophic failure, and it isn't agile at all. Also you need a pilot with good or very good tactics else you miss a ton of shots (ie pilot in webm has 10)

Funny, you say that, one of the mechs I used in the same battle has 4 SRM6 (Also one of them is a juicy SRM6++), a kintaro KTO-18 (could add another but the heat generation is horrid on this mech, also can't really afford to strip too much armor since I need to get close), but I didn't try it with the Stalker, I prefer to have my mechs specialized and rarely modify them once I find a setup I appreciate. I mean I could try but I don't really see the point since I already have a kintaro for that.

Also bad new for the graphics settings, not sure I can help at all because everything is at max, but id say best thing to reduce as a rule of thumb would be AA, Shadow and Lighting, as they tend to be ressource hog regardless of game played. Also disabling v-sync might help Wish I could provide more help, there seem to be a steam guide for performance so dunnos if it could help.

I feel like this is Lego Island syndrome, people have fond memories of the game as a kid but when the released Lego Island 2 it didn't really do that well. I remember being a kid in the early 2000s and the video game reviewers constantly were comparing racing games to either Mario Kart or Wipeout and if Wipeout was mentioned they would beg for a sequel.
I honestly don't think there is a market for it.

Trial and error isn't cheating. Logical deduction is essentially mental trial and error, identifying the correct solution without first disregarding at least one wrong is pure luck. The final square for that 9 and completion of the 5 was also one of the last steps for me, after determining which path to reach the left side things cascaded outwards in an anticlockwise spiral. Still ended up with several mistakes around the center and had to reshuffle.
I think I'm close to the end now and that one was still the hardest so far.

>>549668019
No need for further explanation, you're right, there is a clear distinction between logical 'experimentation' and brute force. Hypothetically you could beat this game just by randomly clicking squares. I think the defining factor is intent; it isn't senseless trial-and-error if you try different possibilities with a specific question in mind like "is it possible to achieve X" or "what are the implications of doing Y"

You're awful at both english and japanese.
Way too awful to construct a sentence that takes phonetic english and turns it into gairaigo. There isn't a syllable "rke", nor is there "sto". Dungeon isn't pronounced dangeon, it's pronounced danjon.

Get the fuck out of this website, ironic shit.

Start with Touhou Imperishable Night, I'd say.
If you play with Reimu and Yukari, you get a very, very lenient timer to use a bomb to avoid death. That's basically how it works: if you think you're about to get hit, use a bomb.
I used to 1CC all the Touhou in Easy, and even almost 1CC'd Mountain of Faith in Normal, if not for Kanako's last spellcard.

I could only play the first level because it would always crash when loading Cairo. I replayed it probably 20+ times as a kid.
>>
>>549794075
Spoilers, it doesn't work much better on modern hardware...
The loading times are still way too long, even from SSD on a modern CPU. And the levels are so tiny and seemingly don't have a lot of assets to load. It's impressive how they managed to mess that up so bad.

It's a worthy Deus Ex sequel as far as writing goes (unlike the new ones) but gameplay and technical implementation were so bad they buried any merit the game might have had.
>>
>>549791614

The issue with deus ex invisible war is that the instances are just way too small, like most levels are the size of a single building from the original, it severely restrict how you can go at your objectives, which in itself is contradictory to what an immersive sim even try to be.

No, Thief 3 is a functional, even good, game without any massive technical flaws. The city maps might have been on the small side but that's nothing compared to DXIW.
Both were bad sequels with similar flaws but Thief 3's problems were very mild in comparison.

Game quality basically plummet instantly and it become obvious either the devs were tired of making the game or ran out of budget and had to rush it. Like it has its nice bits, but it mostly become dumb fetch quests with no depth where you "unite" the Dal Riatha by doing a few oddjobs for each tribes that are all super basic and shallow.

How many hours you got in that?
>>
>>549864583
ONI is more about shaping the enviroment so that it won't fall apart under it's own weight, i want to see something more complex
i.e. maybe one of your worker types would need a specific resource for sustenance, but overharvesting it without precautionary measures will lead to a deficit that will cause a natural pest-hunting critter population to decrease, that would then lead to lower yield of resources grown on your fields which are used to support some other production chain

Yeah I know that's what you wanted but biospheres are lame and gay.
The world exists for you to exploit it. ONI is not very complex but it does a good job of simulating basic physics to give you some gameplay factors to balance in order to create that self-sustaining system.
>>
>>549865527
It's honestly not particularly complex, it just has some unusual simulation features, heat and atmospheric composition mainly. And it gives you the tools to casually break the fundamental laws of physics, so it's not like it's some super duper hardcore mega difficult simulator thing.

Shit happens, that's why I rarely bother with videos. Too lazy to deal with potential problems.

Screenshots just work... for the most part.
Sometimes you get a game that uses some obscure ultragay rendering technique that refuses to be captured by normal means so you have to troubleshoot the issue and then change some arcane driver setting like forcing Vulkan to use DXGI swapchain.

Having played the menace demo, the trailer has an entirely different(better) tone. It makes me want to actually play the game, but I distinctly remember the actual in-game visuals and audio making me regret booting it up every time.

>They made a sequel to Ecco?
No. It's a pseudo MMO intended to be a "forever game"(ie. adding new features forever with the feature creep it comes with). In which you have to build civilization up from nothing, to make a giant laser to destroy a meteor. All without wrecking the "eco"system of the planet, via over farming, mining, polluting and so on.
Problem is that you NEED a lot of people, because there are a bazillion skills and you can only pick like 2, so you are forced to specialize in a very narrow field, and trade/barter/cooperate with other players to "tech up", and even getting fed. And at the end of the day you have to build all the shit to make a giant lazor and destroy the meteorite to win the game.
Which brings me back to the point of starting at the same time, because otherwise stablished players will get all the good spots/claim the good land(yes there are claims and a whole political system) and so on, while you live in a shithut that can be claimed over and abused by these stablished/older players.
The game is good but only for tight groups of people, and groups relatively big, like Vintage Story server or /mmcg/'s Path serb.

Cute.
Funny that games have finally gotten hair rendering to a level where isn't just a static mesh and also not a glitchy mess of physics fuckery... but the loose straps still constantly clip into the clothing. That would have been so easy to fix.

I mean some dude obviously put in effort to minimize the hair clipping, why not have consistent quality standards and do the same with the rest. It's not like modern AAA games are so wasteful that they need two separate teams of devs to handle two parts of a main character, r-right?

Creative, probably one of the best blends of art and puzzles in its genre but I wouldn't say its a "Best Indie TItle".
>Stranded Deep
Literally who?
>Aquaria
Over Abzu? Nah.
>VVVVV
Didn't play it, doesn't appeal to me, but I'll allow it. From what I heard and saw its basically more meatboy with more challenging and creative platforming.
>Prety for the Gods
Literally who?
>Mars First Logistics
Literally who?
>Nine sols
Agreed.
>Thumper
Literally Who?
>Blue Prince
How? Why?
>Road Redemption
I forgot this game existed, basically a rip off of Road Rash, no idea if its better or not cause I played the original Road Rash, had a ton of fun with it and never touched it again.
>Snake pass
Kek, no. Also I'm noticing a lot of puzzle games in your indie list, this kinda feels more like a "games I played this year" list.
>Oceanhorn: Mosnters of Uncharted Seas
Never heard of it, is it basically knock off zelda? If it is I might check it out if it is or a roguelike.
>The Forest
I don't think The Forest came out this year but it is a good game, kinda falls flat near the end but I'd prefer my games to shit the bed at the end than to take 20+ hours before "getting good".
>>
>>549897724

Yeah its already grainy as fuck, but I managed to compress a high quality battletech webm a few days ago from 24 mb to 3.5 mb without much loss and for some freaking reason this super pixelated game wouldn't go under 7.2mb even with super lowered resolution and had to use some old visual codec. I honestly believe its because I lowered the res in steam thinking it would do a bit of compression on its own, like maybe it did but it was barely anything and in turn the mp4 to webm website I used wouldn't compress the resolution so it kept a very similar filesize.

whatever, learned of my mistakes. Also cutie ghost lady.
>>
>>549896191

I both loved and disliked mars first logistic, not because its a bad game far from it, but because I'm a stubborn kind of engineer who will go out of his way to over design something as to follow a general shape and rarely make something from the ground up unless absolutely required, when I hit a good design I just reuse it for freaking everything.

ie almost every single one of my roovers were basically boomtrucks. Need to transport loose materials? Boomtruck with a lid. Need to catch detritus floating in orbit? Boomtruck with thrusters and big ass bed. Need to climb a 80* cliffside? Slap some high grip wheels on a boomtruck and climb that freaking cliffside. Shit just work, like I only have myself to blame but it's such a pain to try anything for it to shit the bed when you have the beloved boomtruck-chan just eager to provide the solution.

But if you like those kinds of game, I would recommend you also try Trailsmaker, it's basically the same thing except with Not-Legosâ„¢

Ironically not as much as I had hoped, I recall when I had pirated it ages ago I had managed to build an Hydrofoil yatch sized ship that was insanely quick and stable, but never managed to remake it after buying the game years later for some reason. Like it would absolutely slap in battles, could easily hit the 60 knots and higher while being super stable and the general shape (it kind of looked like a big ass pontoon except with thin ski-like blades rather than flotation tanks) allowed me to put whatever I wanted on it.

I just couldn't get into it afterward, should try again.

Multiplayer in barotrauma with random people is effectively unplayable. It requires custom submarines built with murderhobos in mind and/or an active admin spectating to prevent someone from just destroying the submarine and killing everyone through the million ways a crew member can easily do that. You need friends for an enjoyable barotrauma experience.
The single minded, mediocre bots don't have a 50% chance of sabotaging the run on purpose. It's easy to play around the limitations of the bots, it's hard to play around Xxretardedslayer69xX suddenly welding himself in the reactor room and overloading it.

shmups aren't so much about being a god gamer that can slip through bullets, but more about learning patterns and being able to excute your strats. You're not going to 1CC on your first try, probably not even on your tenth try either, but each try you learn how to get a little farther.
Usually you shouldn't be afraid of using bombs, since in most games you get more bombs when you die. Also watching video of someone else clear can be good if you can't find a strat on your own

Just finished getting the 4th ending to Silksong with a 91% completion rate. Wasn't there a scene where Lace is gloating at Hornet while she was in chains without her mask?

I'd rate this game a 3/5. Well made but I dislike A LOT of design decisions. I want to see the developers personally play through segments like Escape from the Abyss with each of the different crests. I played with the Witch Crest and the hitbox is absurdly small and I'd get hit over and over.

And the contact damage drove me nuts, it was apparent against Groal where I stopped using the drill against him for damage since I'd get hit afterwards, and too many times I ran into Lost Lace, made contact and lost two masks. I'd rather they make a shake off animation because of these enemies don't deserve a contact hitbox. And Lost Lace, I have the Everbloom, why am I taking contact damage?

And I hate the health system as well. The sheer amount of 2 mask hitting moves makes me wish they didn't bother with giving us so many masks and rather they make every move do one point of damage. In other words, I'd rather go through the game with 5 masks as opposed to getting 10 and still having to deal with 2 damage moves as the norm and 3 damage moves for special occasions.

Lastly, I'm not at all a fan of "everyone dies". I'm not being literal of course, but I really dislike the storyline of so many NPCs dying off and then ones who are surviving at Songclave, it makes no sense how they survived to make it there in the first place (SHERMA).

I suppose I could go for the last 9 percent, but honestly, I wasn't having fun with this game. This idea of every new room I walk into is treading the line between life and death is not fun. The platform segments at least are fun and satisfying. But boss battles aren't satisfying to beat, just a relief that it's over.

And if there was one thing I wish Team Cherry did was cut the Reaper weapon altogether and make its gimmick a default effect for Binding. I think it improves the gameplay loop so much; where after you bind, you are pressured to be aggressive against the enemy in a temporary reaper state to "reap" extra silk from them per hit. I thought that was a great gameplay mechanic. And I wish the Witch crest had a larger Binding hit box. It drove me nuts to be close enough to deal damage with Trobbio's mirror but not close enough to steal masks, despite when you do start a successful bind, your hitbox seemingly enlarges like crazy.

BUT
It still feels kind of empty due to poor game design. Not leveraging procedural generation possibilities well. Literally every single planet has the same POIs and stuff like that.

Fantastic sandbox game, but it doesn't hold your hand and force you to have fun. You have to be capable of coming up with your own goals and enjoy completing them.

Early on it's obvious stuff, you want to do the tutorial quests to get your 1st ship set up, get some basic gear, make a basic base.

Then the game cracks wide open. Shitloads of quests. You can try to get a better ship, better gear, better bases. You can socialize and do multiplayer. There's a hundred sidequesty things to do. Master fishing, dig up fossils and make amalgamations, raise pets, cook dishes, scan stuff in the galaxy and mark it with your name as discoverer for all to see, have your character learn the languages of the different alien races, figure out the lore and backstory of the world, become the mayor of civilizations and bring them to prosperity, get more vehicles to use, do more combat and get better, hunt down space pirates in your ship, explore the galaxy and chart it out, make a network of bases to teleport freely all over, get a massive freighter ship with a crew, manage a band of mercenaries, get into agriculture, build automated systems to gather resources and get rich, ect.

A lot of the systems feed into each other seamlessly. If you want to fill the fish bestiary, you're going to need to fish on hot planets, gas planets, ect. That means having gear to survive in those conditions and a good ship to travel the galaxy. You'll want bait and perhaps get into cooking. Of course you'll get rewards like cosmetics for fishing as well. Hey, those fish can be sold for multiple types of currency or even cooked themselves, so now you're feeding into other systems.

If you're given the option to do anything and choose to do nothing you will be bored. If you can say "I wanna make my character better at jetpacking around" and go down the rabbit hole of finding those upgrades, you'll discover dozens of other goals and the game will remain entertaining for a very long time.

>I think in ACS I would just loose every time the hidden dragon kicks in(yes I watched sseth video about it), as it seems it's a power level check. And I'm very bad at timed events.
There's really no timer to it. The cavern shows up on day 300 sure, but unless you've ticked extra special difficulty options then you can very easily suppress the cavern literally until the heat death of the universe if you so choose.
If it's in a room with Very Auspicious feng shui then it never breaks out, and doing that is as easy as putting a wooden water vat next to the cavern and boxing the whole thing in with walls, or the game provides a free relic to do the same thing if you're too much of a crayon eater to even manage that.
>>
>>550032154
I think people that haven't played the game exaggerate the flaws a lot.

There's plenty of thought in the world, don't mistake generation with fully random. There's a whole generation model for living skeleton creatures, and they're not just placed randomly on all planets but have devoted living fossil planets where the landscape is designed to fit them and the resources found there will include logical ones like buried fossils and relics. There's randomness but it's guided enough to feel right.

If you really want preset stuff, the "Expedition" content is made up of curated experiences where everyone is exploring the same universe bubbles, including specific quests and planets/fauna designed by hand to be in that expedition.

The handholdy tutorial just teaches the bare minimum mechnics quickly, and there's a toggle on making a character to skip it entirely. You're not forced to see it.

>it doesn't hold your hand
NMS is passes as "no handholding" nowadays? You'd kill yourself if you had to play a 90s RPG without internet access.

>There's a hundred sidequesty things to do
I think you're overselling the banal collectathons a bit.
There's the main quest, which is good and interesting to experience--once. Same for expeditions, good stuff that keeps the game fresh. There's a bit of side content that has some quest structure and authored content but most of the "sidequesty" things boil down to just grinding to fill a catalog. About as degenerate as cheevo hunting.

>get rich
Kinda, but credits are also completely meaningless. After getting the hang of things and bookmarking some public moneymaking bases (or making your own) you will be overflowing the 32-bit money counter all the time. Or just by using any of the many infinite money glitches. It takes about 15 minutes to do that at the beginning of a new expedition.
There's also a glitch for infinite quicksilver to quickly buy all those unlocks without having to play regularly for years.
Funnily enough nanites are the only currency that takes effort to get en masse without save editing. You can still buy and dupe them but not as effortlessly as money. They stay somewhat relevant as a currency if you play with all difficulty settings absolutely maxed out. Even after years of playing, my main save is still floating below million nanites. Mostly because I refuse to use duping outside expeditions.

I mean, NMS is a bit too casual. Many of the mechanics supposed to limit you and provide interesting challenges just don't do much. You have to hold back and use honor rules to stop breaking the game so damn hard if you want it to entertain you.

>is it worth it giving it another try?

>gave up because I needed to farm life supporting ores every few minutes
If you know how to dupe, you'll never do that after the first 5 minutes of a fresh save.
If you don't (better for your first time experience), it stays relevant for maybe a few hours of the start. You won't be manually picking up bits of mats to just stay alive for long.
You can also adjust any facet of the difficulty on the fly and entirely disable things like that if you don't want to bother with conquering the survival systems.

If the last time you tried it was years ago, I'd give it another try.

There's absolutely an element of "struggling to survive" especially at first, but a lot of the game is about reducing and removing those shackles as you become a badass instead of a noob.

It won't take long until you find upgrades like pic rel for oxygen (probably the resource you're talking about). Then you can play for hours between each recharge and you're already holding a thousand recharges in inventory at all times. A lot of the gameplay loop is like that, you start out needing to avoid flying your ship too often because launch fuel is a cost, then you get the solar panel upgrade and now launch fuel is essentially completely free forever and doesn't even need to be refilled manually.

As for collecting ores, eventually you'll just have an automated farm where you get like 6 months of oxygen for free every 2 hours. As a new player, you can even steal from an existing player's farm to just grab 9999 oxygen (I think like 80 is a full heal) in 10 seconds, and keep that as 1 stack in your inventory. They vastly expanded player inventory space over time so if you recall not being able to stockpile much that's no longer an issue. Most older players with farms for basic elements leave them unlocked because they barely collect the stuff anyway.

Even without that, you'll unlock stuff like a heal machine you put in your base so you just return to any base now and then. Or you use mechs that don't let the elements touch you to begin with so you're not draining while you're playing. It's a big game and there are many ways to solve each "chore".

It's 2025, if there's no yellow paint and the player sometimes has to Google "how do I get nanites" then it's not a handholdy game for modern standards. NMS doesn't force the player to do a single thing, toggle the tutorial off and make a character where all you do is hunt down fossils and the game won't stop you to force you to do the main quests. That's my point.

If you don't like collecting things you aren't forced to either. If you're sure all you want to do is the main quest and each expedition, then you'll still get your money's worth imo. That's why they consistently release new expeditions and do the reduxes sometimes.

Your complaints at least make sense from the pov of a player, unlike "the tutorial looks handholdy and I didn't know you can just click a button to not enable it". I think plenty of people enjoy the collectathon aspect, and they'll probably enjoy the game more consistently than you, but it's still fair to say collecting is a big part of the game yes.

>you'll still get your money's worth
Yeah NMS is worth whatever they're asking for it if you look at games like that. It basically gets free expansion worth of new content every few months. Sometimes even really good and exciting content, not just a new low-dev-effort catalog filler grind mechanic.

Expeditions are interesting to me because they're the only good opportunity to meet randoms and organically do stuff with other players, aside from random basebuilding weekends.

My main gripe with modern NMS is that they're casualized its systems way too much, nothing has much of a meaning anymore when you can do anything so easily without any bounds, there's nothing to work towards, nothing to achieve.
The long epic journey to galactic core? Just fucking dial 0x00000000 on the gate system lmao, it'll autocorrect to the closest real address to the core and your spaceship magically appears on the other side. Need to get to a different galaxy several loops away? Just go there via any "temporary" teleport, your freighter can magically follow you anywhere in any reality for free and anchor you there. Distances used to mean something, your "real" location used to mean something when your ships couldn't magically follow you gates and everywhere with a single button press. The scale of the universe is completely meaningless nowadays.
So the only thing left is the multiplayer & creative side of it, expedition events, building bases, touring others' creations, etc.
OR doing the collectable grinds which is about as exciting as housework. Many of them can serve as incentives to see more of the procgen planets, but when you've already seen it all...
>>
>>550051242
>there's nothing to work towards, nothing to achieve.
>The long epic journey to galactic core? Just fucking dial 0x00000000 on the gate system lmao
unironically a skill issue. the average player is not using cheat codes and then blaming the game for them existing. a new normal player will have no clue how the gate system functions behind the scenes and will only use it to move to places they already discovered themselves. they won't know which symbol represents 0, they won't know all 0s will put them near the core, they don't know autocorrect exists, ect.

??? lmao what cheat codes?
The main issue is your ships following you through gates and other means of originally-designed-as-temporary teleportation like checking out bases via the multiplayer hub, which turns them from temporary visits into a free fast travel anywhere. Understanding the addressing system doesn't mean a damn without that.

I figured out the gate coordinate system myself back in the day as soon as I got all the glyphs, as a normal new player. Anyone with normal IQ can do the same. Hell, even the dumbest mouthbreather can figure it out since it's been extensively documented.
Solving that mystery is what any curious player would do. You see 16 symbols, you know it's gonna be hex system--But you don't even have to know that. You just repeat the first button and see what happens. Then fill the address with just the last button. Then more complex combinations. Maybe change one symbol in a known address. Then a different one. Soon enough you know how the entire coordinate system works and can go anywhere in the galaxy, roughly.
Honestly, I was a bit disappointed that it wasn't like Stargate's coordinate system but a much simpler one. Since the gate visuals were basically directly lifted from Stargate.

>The main issue is your ships following you through gates and other means of originally-designed-as-temporary teleportation like checking out bases via the multiplayer hub, which turns them from temporary visits into a free fast travel anywhere. Understanding the addressing system doesn't mean a damn without that.
This is frankly complete nonsense. "So what I cheated, they let the cheat codes work" is not an argument. You might as well just turn every difficulty slider to the minimum and remove all the systems in the game to say you beat it, NMS is a sandbox and it is a failing of the player if they use the tools to rob themselves of fun instead of add fun.
>Hell, even the dumbest mouthbreather can figure it out since it's been extensively documented.
A normal player isn't reading extensive documentation, they are playing the game blind and at most doing a wiki check for something they're stuck on.
>You just repeat the first button and see what happens. Then fill the address with just the last button. Then more complex combinations. Maybe change one symbol in a known address. Then a different one.
Yes this is called trying to find cheat codes. Normal players are not trying to bruteforce the gate system, they are writing down locations they find to return to them later. I played with a friend group back in the day and not a single one of us said "hey lets try to ruin the fun by bruteforcing the code system to get places we shouldn't be yet".

>NMS is a sandbox
It was not a sandbox on release
>>
>>550054941
It wanted to be but sucked, and then it got better over dozens of major updates. We live in the present so the past is simply not relevant to if the game is good now or not.
>>
>>550054759
Jesus Christ, dude. I'm sorry that nobody in your friend group has any intellectual curiosity but the coordinate system is not the issue.

The problem is temporary teleports allowing you to call your ships and fireghters there, which turns them into unlimited fast travel. Gate travel is just one example of such a teleport. You always used to be able dial in any address and visit any planet, but you were stuck planetside and had no option but to return where you came from.

I had knocked down 4 NPCs so far. And gonna have to pay a fine, but so far so good.
>>
>>550055494
It's just funny that you're trying so hard to argue that anybody intellectually curious HAS to cheat in video games.

The problem is 100% on your end, because when the game gave you a niche method of teleporting using codes you find in the world, you sat there bruteforcing code combos for what sounds like hours to cheat the exploration out of your exploration game. A normal player sees the gate system and goes "cool, I should save this code for later" not "ok time to skip the rest of the game by entering random codes until I hit the jackpot".

Why is that of all things driving you insane?
I've said multiple times now that the coordinate system has nothing to do with the problem, there are so many other ways to teleport anywhere you want. The coordinate system is at least limited within the same galaxy/reality unlike teleporting to players or bases.

And you can't be seriously arguing that understanding how intended game mechanics work--not bugs, not glitches--and using them in-game is somehow cheating. Might as well argue that you shouldn't aim in FPS games, what a dirty fucking cheat that is.
Really, what drove you into this insane shitposting spiral? What did I say that mindbroke you?? I'm confused and bemused.

>I've said multiple times now that the coordinate system has nothing to do with the problem, there are so many other ways to teleport anywhere you want.
And a new player doesn't have an encyclopedic knowledge of how to cheat and minmax advantages out of the ways to teleport. They just play the game. None of the discussion hubs for the game are filled with constant discussion of "why did they ruin the game by letting me cheat", it is a problem solely in your own head.

>And you can't be seriously arguing that understanding how intended game mechanics work--not bugs, not glitches--and using them in-game is somehow cheating.
Understanding the glyphs is "if I save this code for later I can return here at another code gate". Bruteforcing by entering random shit, or googling cheat codes to enter, is not understanding anything.

>Really, what drove you into this insane shitposting spiral? What did I say that mindbroke you??
spamming "U MAD" over and over is not a replacement for an argument. If this is the only thing you can think of to reply then I'm forced to accept your concession that you know your argument isn't strong enough to stand on it's own merit.

Do try to understand that the coordinate system was not meant to be some big secret.
It's not obfuscated.
They made it as simple for players to understand as possible.
It doesn't even take Stargate level of math to understand, so even little kids playing can do it if they're just curious and smart.
They wanted players to play with it, try it out and have fun with it.
They wanted the community to work it out, to have it as a resource.

And it worked very well around the original design. But with the current system that allows summoning ships anywhere, it's just one of many unlimited fast travel exploits.

>None of the discussion hubs for the game are filled with
Neither was my point in a single 4chan post, but for some reason something as normal as understanding a simple coordinate system drove you off the hinges.

>understanding how the system works is not understanding anything.
And just blindly putting in numbers is understanding? Like, do you even know what your phone number consists of? Are you capable of calling an international number or would understanding that be cheating?
Do you realize how insane you sound? I think you do. You already realized that you went full retard and are now trying to play it for laughs to save face. Just a bit too late.
>>
>>550058939
>Do try to understand that the coordinate system was not meant to be some big secret.
It's clear your only way to argue against my points is to completely ignore them. Were you incapable of reading the part where I've said over and over that normal players aren't sitting there brute-forcing codes, but playing the game as intended? Because you've failed to give an argument that even attempts to counter that even once. You just cover your ears and eyes and spam the same irrelevant information that fails to counter what I have said on any level at all.

>Neither was my point in a single 4chan post, but for some reason something as normal as understanding a simple coordinate system drove you off the hinges.
If you're still incapable of arguing a point of any merit without just adding emotional appeals then you're not worth my time to reply to any more, it's obvious you're not mature enough to handle a basic conversation. I hope one day you mature enough to realize that tacking on "U MAD BRO?" is not a replacement for an argument with merit, and is merely filler that makes you look childish.

I'm not gonna get into an argument over a half remembered possibly made up memory, thank you very much
>>
>>550059325
You haven't made any points but weirdly latched on the tangent about coordinates. I think it was because you originally misunderstood the core of the argument?
But if you really want me to answer this
>playing the game as intended?
You're positing your opinion on how it is intended to be played as a fact. You are not the arbiter that. Hello Games is. And they made the system as easy to understand as possible from player perspective and have supported player efforts to document the system and coordinates.

The problem is not the coordinate system but the ability to call ships in at "temporary" teleport destinations, do you understand?
We can completely ignore the gate teleport system's existence and the argument doesn't change. The current system still lets you fast travel basically anywhere via players, bots or bases.
>>
>>550060853
You're still obsessing over the coordinates (and for some insane reason call it cheating?) like it was the core of the argument, when they don't matter at all.
Remove the whole gate travel system and you can still fast travel anywhere via other means.

Ah yes, because spamming ad hominems like you do gives you some form of high ground.
>But if you really want me to answer this
What happened to me not making any points? You're pretending I'm not making any and then instantly turning around and admitting I did by replying to one.
>You're positing your opinion on how it is intended to be played as a fact.
The game has a questline to teach how to use the gates, and it teaches finding the codes yourself in game and entering them manually after finding them. It does not prompt the player to bruteforce codes, in fact the system is designed as tedious and cumbersome to make bruteforcing harder.

>do you understand?
I understand that yet again you think talking down to people and throwing ad hominems around is a replacement for an argument, but unfortunately for you it still isn't. Filling your posts with filler sentences like this only serves to make it clear you're aware your argument isn't strong enough to stand on it's own merits.
