Nasu doesn't consider Guda as the protagonist of FGO. In terms of storytelling, we use it as our audience surrogate. Merlin compares Guda with him, as a "visitor" rather than a protagonist. And Oberon refers Guda as a plot device and as an observer. This means Nasu doesn't consider FGO as Guda's story. Just take it up to Nasu. The manga and anime adaptations take up the "challenge" to change him into the protagonist because Nasu's not the one writing him like that. Sakurai did in OC2 but Nasu doesn't.
