>Kenshi 2 Announcement:
Soon (tm)

>What is Kenshi?
"A free-roaming squad based RPG. Focusing on open-ended sandbox gameplay features rather than a linear story."
"Be a trader, a thief, a rebel, a warlord, an adventurer, a farmer, a slave, or just food for the cannibals. Research new equipment and craft new gear."
https://store.steampowered.com/app/233860/Kenshi/
https://www.gog.com/game/kenshi
>Demo Link
https://lofigames.com/
>Tips for beginners
Learn to pick your fights, don't hesitate to run away and don't reload unless you die, any fight you survive makes you stronger. Building an outpost will attract trader caravans and hostile raids. Building one too early might be more than you can handle. Pressing F1 will open the tutorial screen. Mousing over the stats screen and HUD will reveal useful tooltips and additional info. If the enemies feel too difficult - get crossbows for your units. And don't be afraid of the RP autism - engage in it whenever you can. And do unlock the sliders.

Finding cheesy ways to beat large bosses, kinda makes me want to get into modding. Mostly just to insert simple things that would foil the strategies I used, or just make them harder to pull off.

Nothing counters R-toggling with a crossbow, fyi. It forces the animation chain for close combat, meaning you can trigger any/all swing animations and manually path out of the way. There's *nothing* the NPCs, even crowds, can do other than be given ranged weaponry.

I don't actually know how hard any of it is to do. Haven't modded before. Just kinda have a few ideas rattling in my head that i don't know if are good or bad.

I'm imagining a custom player start, attached to a custom boss that would act as their revenge goal.

The faction of the new boss would have agents in large cities, with traits that somehow made it slightly harder to overthrow whoever ran those cities. I guess if the boss' faction saw those factions as ally, they could agro attack the player when the player made trouble in the towns.

Maybe some custom bar-fies with dialog drips.

Maybe a custom city that acted as the boss' base. I don't know if it's possible, but it would be nice if it could just not spawn in until after some other goals had been met. Maybe a chain of mini-boss to beat beforehand, and the base moves after each one.

I dragged my whole team up to Bad Teeth, and everything that looked promising on the overworld map was just too far away for the idea to be at all doable.

But then I looked north of Bad Teeth, and the field had copper and iron. Also, the field has this rocky landscape that kinda makes me think that I might be able to use some minimal walls and just block off the whole field. I would have a camp, but the only way in and out would be for an aggressor to path all the way through Bad Teeth. I doubt I'm the first person to look at that place and think of this. Assuming the city guards are strong enough to repel invaders, they would be perfect free security. Of course I would regret everything if it turns out they couldn't do the job and the city got overthrown.

Then later on I went on a trip to Okran's Shield. Passed by a broken farm that had been overrun by hungry bandits, so i killed the leader, so hopefully something different will populate it. Then half way between that spot and Okran's Shield, I saw copper nodes. The no-base idea I originally had for Bad Teeth, might have been feasible if I held out and saw all this near Okran's Shield. They would have to path through a bit of acid rain, but still, that can be overcome with the right clothing. Too late now I guess.

The whole northern part of Kenshi seems kind of lackluster.
I'm currently playing a playtrough that focuses on those areas and have downloaded a couple of miniscule mods to make it better ; Like a freed Deadcat when you kill the grand wizard, livelier Fog Islands once you kill a Fog King (like trade caravans and even Paladin groups walking around) , an actual Berseker Outpost in the fucking Berserker country (!!!)
I'm amazed that there isn't a person at the Bastion (the Cannibal Hunters' HQ) to whom I can turn in the Cannibal Chief bounties.
Dreg also needs like some roaming bandit population that terrorises the few fishing villages, since the fisherman do mane a mention of it.
Shame any mods that do change these things add their own OC gangs and city overrides.

How much stronger are the enemies in that mod? It sounds fun but if they have faction leaders with shit like 200 stats breaking all balance then I'm not sure I'd want to play it.
>>
>>550046764
Earlygame enemies like starving bandits are still weak.
Midgame enemies like Band of Bones and Black Dragon Ninja Jonin are brought up the the 40s-60s range, and their faction leaders' stats could be about 60s-80s.
The lategame enemies, meaning the major faction bosses, the Pit gang bosses, Bugmaster, and the Ashlands are where the stats go well past 100.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=izoHSmsrK6w
They're very difficult enemies that need high level Toughness and Specialist/Masterwork armor to survive. The mod also recommends using an attack slots mod like Attack Slots x3 to gang up on them better. Overall it's not as bad as it sounds as long as you got good stats and equipment. Crossbows help immensely too.

how would they fare against the waves of fishmen I wonder...
>>
>>550129393
That's sort of what's in play. When I proposed the Fishman Invasion it came with a kind of conditional acceptance that the southern coastlines were going to be increasingly inundated with waterborne mutants. The empire, even in an "empowered" scenario is facing down (and the first to be forced to do so) a tide that is powerful & persistent enough to break their defenses. Without a coalition forming to stem the tide it would be difficult to prevent penetration up to (and beyond) the swamplands interior.

The wildcard in play is the instructive override which can occur to the Crab Raiders, i.e., the Fishmen taking their main settlement in Vanilla. Since an invasion along the southern shores technically includes for the southeastern expanse of Greenbeach it basically obligates them into the initial reaction-response for when the first wave of the invasion arrives in earnest.

So, how would they fare? Probably better than the imperial legions who spend more time avoiding the local wildlife and beating up poor people for funsies. The southern legions enjoy a semi-hegemonic status over the marshes and shores because the only potential rival, the Southern Hive, refuses to aggress upon their territories. What we have then is a question of whether the Crab Raiders come to blows with the known expansionist Southern Hive. That is to say, there's an obvious viability to collaboration between the Crabbers and imperials if the circumstances grew dire enough. The Hive wouldn't entertain such collaborative interests - meaning the only way to know if the Crabbers can help is removing the threats to their regional domination. A scattered southeast makes stopping the waves from pouring over the region almost futile.

Supposed someone wanted to build a quest narrative. How would they best encourage the player to follow it? Promises that some specific location contained the Master Sword or something? Would providing the fundamentals to the player be a way to encourage them to not just wing it out in the world and make their own farm? Or does a breadcrumb trail of useful loot just go against what Kenshi is supposed to be?
>>
>>550153585
I propose to think about kino experience, not meta weapons or armor in a game where it's possible to finish it (destroy Cat Lon) with nothing but rags and an iron stick.
>>
is kaizo or genesis better?
>>
>>550161043
Totally different things. Kaizo is in the class of lighter overhauls akin to Reactive World, Living World and such. Genesis is a modpack in disguise with every idea shoved in that they could. I wouldn't recommend the latter unless you're just bored and curious.

You could technically build walking distance from a bar.
>>
>>550172107
I could but I don't want to build walking distance from a bar.

Also I did, in Mongrel, right outside the city gates on a narrow plateau. It's a fun location but causes ownership issues with the building inside. Several times had to re-buy the buildings I'd bought in Mongrel, losing everything inside.
>>
>>550171269
>>550172509
I don't know of a mod that does it, but I guess you could technically make one.
You would basically create a caravan in some location, and then give it some kind of instruction that caused it to follow your character around once it saw you. You might dislike it after a while.

I think this troop was supposed to attack my Gut Hunter's Shack but I had to go to a different settlement for the crab tournament. They aren't coming towards the shack anymore though they just ran past and into the sea.
Now they're wading there, menacingly.

Does that eliminate all automatic pruning for all of your outposts? Might be worth it even if I still haven't fully figured out how to use the F12 menu to clear terrain, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.
>>
>>550300785
Yes, every outpost you create uses the "Your Outpost" marker and its configuration. Clearing terrain is not up to you - because it's because seeded in every time the chunk loads - you can only "fix" it by changing the foliage spawn patterns. This is why dramatic steps are taken to reduce swamp foliage automatically - there is no "remove this bush" tool - it's "stop spawning so much bullshit" as the answer via modding the biomes in the FCS.

I'm about to start some farming. I thought I would use a nearby town as if it were my gate, so the locals would fend off things like river raptors. Then I saw what actually happens. They pretty much ignore the raptors and let them wander freely through the street.

I'm watching Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood with my boomer father (1946, real boomer) because he used to race home with my uncle to watch Voltron.
He loves it, says it's "deeper than he expected" and "about the folly of man". I think he'd like Kenshi if I could mod it to be more accessible, he can't into vidya outside of phone games or NES titles. We haven't always seen eye to eye, so this is nice.
Hold your father close bros, you only get the one.

Does it ever make sense to use Crab armor? Even if you're using a pure blunt weapon you still have to deal with the 50% dex reduction in the form of greatly lowered swing speed...
>>
Get up
>>
>>550417826
Crab armor is great. It's not really for offense, it's for having a tank that will not go down. That can be important in very drawn out fights. It's especially useful if you use it in tandem with Taunt.
>>
>>550428234
What kind of weapon would you give someone in that monstrosity, cause the Naginatas the raiders use gotta lose most of their effectiveness.
>>
>>550429756
You want to lean more on the blunt side, so blunt, hackers, and heavy weapons would be best. Jittes help you be even more defensive.

Growing increasingly disenchanted with trying to mine north of Bad Teeth. Thinking about dismantling all structures to reclaim the materials. Sure, there are 3 copper nodes and 2 iron nodes right there in the field, but I can't build the barrier walls I want because it's all too near to the city, and I can't build machinery next to the nodes because of the city, and the buildings in the city are too small to just put the machinery in there. Not to mention the crazy amount of materials it apparently requires to build the chain of required equipment. I'm going to have to approach this differently. And since I can't get the walls I wanted in place, I keep getting attacked. I've been winning, but they are chipping away faster than my team can heal. The only positive is an occasional boon of meat and hides. Bottom line is I probably need a simple farm somewhere.
>>
>>550431396
You can use the exploit where you designate a shack on the edge of the city's zone, which will let you build much closer to the city, but be warned, if you build too much too close your outpost and the city buildings will overlap and things can get fucky.
>>
>>550434798
I've heard of that, but I don't think it solves my wall problem. I also kinda suspect that the valley will simply spawn the kinds of things I want to avoid just already inside the area.

I have the reactive world mod installed. and I'm not sure if this is normal behavior, but I was looking at some of the holy mines that are no longer in holy kingdom possession anymore. There was one derelict mine that has reverted to Shek control and has a big Y house in it. If the game lets me, I was thinking if putting processing equipment inside or on top of that building, so that I can just haul material inside. I would probably just send my robots out there to do it slowly, since I don't have to feed them.

Then for farming, either I rush hydroponics and build in the cities I'm already in, or I take over a holy farm, or I build a base near the mouth of that river that you swim up for armour king.

I thought it might be kinda cheese useful to just find a place with all the necessary work equipment already laying out that I could borrow, but none of them really have enough of the right stuff, so bare minimum I have to build at least one large piece of equipment out in the open. But then I practically have to build a small city to protect that one small piece of equipment, so the whole operation is all or nothing, and so far I've been clinging to the nothing camp.

>>550511723
Nice. UWE goes a little overboard for some people's tastes. You might want to consider a run with Reactive World or Kaizo thereafter since they're less opinionated and lighter touch. Wander around for awhile and you'll get a feel for what might scratch the itch on a revisit to the Workshop.

King is clearly not a Hiver and his death will not spread the fog.

Hivers are low status in the UC, and that won't do. Make them change their minds, become a real merchant prince, make Tengu regret insulting you and yours. Grabbing those bounties will help.
The big objectives are kill King and become king, or at least prince.

Armor and pants are Azuchi armor with the vanilla aesthetic patch.
Helmet is from Hives Expanded. It's either the Hive Ronin Helmet or Hive Samurai Helmet, they' look very similarly.
The black rags is part of a backpack, the Adventurer's Rag Sack from OMO's Armour for the World. It's dyed black.
