I think the problem with VNs is that there's so few good ones everyone hones in on the opinions others have on just those games. Like it's REALLY important what someone thinks about Sakuuta, it's REALLY important what one thinks about Muramasa, it's REALLY important if the JOPs were "right" about some random hidden gem... There's not really much room for nuanced or varied tastes.Take like manga. Someone can skip reading One Piece entirely and it's not like pitchforks will be tossed about. An anime watcher can miss a season and it's not like they will be crucified for not having the right opinion on Darling in the Franxx. If someone chooses not to play Silksong nobody will care. But with VNs, it's like, hoooly shit, we only have 100 relevant games so you better damn well play Umineko and have an opinion on it. Frankly, it's a bit sad. Sakuuta is ancient. Still talking about it is like unironically considering it important what people feel about Witcher 3 or Fallout 4. Since the two of them spend a lot of time together the second route feels pretty repetitive desu, but the ending is fantastic enough to justify it.
