Looks like GR presumably has this thing in active development during AC8, which is quite wild, but seeing what the Fenrir was capable of in 2020, this doesn't seem all that unfeasible.

I feel that the FCU is going to need as much military and financial support as possible in their defense against Sotoa's unwarranted and imperialistic aggression. It would be a good idea to relocate all of the military assets of Fato, Gebet, Recta, Ustio, Sapin, and North Osea to the frontlines as soon as possible.

Guy above outlined it decently, my joking aside i think its kinda correct in how it will (should) go. Where states will infight and crumble the corpos will extend their hands and pull you in to their secure embrace. It's like lobbying in the real world but accelerated or even better, its more like the (lack of) church and state separation but the church is the corps. Trust in GR, we will save you.

Neucom should have started its existence after Ace Combat 5, I dont understand how you can go from >illuminati real and they control a major defense contractor
To
>let's keep them contracted to help build not only our regular weapons, but autonomous ones too
>also they sell weapons to both sides still
>also they're the contractor for our entire space program

Like how did that all get swept under a rug that they didn't even do a half-assed rebrand to Neucom in 2010? How were they not only still legally allowed to continue operations, but also expand operations and contracts INTERNATIONALLY NO LESS?

Grunder has nothing to do with Neucom though, they're born from the EASA and are still a minor player until GR has their employees defect.
Osea does crack down on them after the end of 7, but yeah, Harling not tearing them down after 5 was a bad move on his part.

Did you guys prefer the jap dub or the english dub for Ace Combat 5 when you played through it?
>>
>>550301962
I'd imagine so.
That being said AC3 explicitly mentions that In-Sa-Net is satellite based ("Inter-Satellite Network") and Electrosphere is effectively just the internet since it's mentioned to have existed since the beginning of the 21st century.
I could see a side mention or a story in the AC8 artbook about Neucom leveraging its EASA acquisition to spearhead reconstruction of the satellite network or something.

In the tumbledryer period of AC2-AC3-AC4-AC5 there was a lot of retconning. The setting as we know it wasn't really a thing until AC5 which established the current Strangereal world map that later games follow.

You can fly the F-32 now, aside from that there are other cool things like the F-15CX, the F-15D, the F-15EX, the F-15SE, the F-15N, drones for the F/A-18E, and F/A-18C, the Adler, visual mods to make the planes have actual combat payload instead of 4 missiles on a plane which can carry 14, glove vanes for the A model F-14s and that's just the stuff I enjoy,
I recommend checking this mod for a list of some planes you might be interested in which are some of the most gameplay changing stuff after full rebalances which I used to play with but stick to base nowadays.

They didn't bother because Khrushchev fell for the same missile autism the British did and completely fucked the pace of Soviet combat aviation for a couple decades. Fortunately for them, once the corn man was out, there was still enough political will and industrial capacity to get back on track, unlike with Britain. They at least muddled along long enough to eventually develop the Flanker platform, which has since hard-carried Russia's (and China's, they're set to build more Flankers than Russia ever did) air power capabilities. If Kono loves these things so much why has there only been a single game with a Flanker cover plane while there have been like 5 with an F-22?
>>
>>550311538
That's more a question for him. If I had to guess, the main market for the series has always been Japan and the US, where the F-22 is overall more recognizable than any Soviet/Russian design. It still represents the apex of fighter design anywhere in the world bar perhaps the F-35, and even then, the F-22 has had a longer presence in public consciousness. It would be neat to see some antagonist ace or squadron use it instead though.

It would be pretty neat to see the state of Strangereal 80 or so years before present, lots of room for dumb WW2-style superweapons begging to made into missions. I wonder when the first spaceflight was in Strangereal's history? Their space program definitely seemed to accelerate after the Ulysses asteroid but if any WW2-era nation had pursued rocketry in the 40s unobstructed then there could have been manned suborbital flights by the early 50s, in janky unpressurised cockpits with elaborate flightsuits.
Imagine an early cold-war-era mission to fly an airdropped X-plane up high enough to get a shot at shooting down a Salyut station, only for the incident to be swept under the rug to maintain geopolitical stability.

only for superplanes, you don't see F-14s or F-18s COFFINed yet, they could definitely retcon much of AC3 especially when most of the fanbase never experienced the JP version of it anyway

>>
>>550317439
Well I mean technically you don't know if sublimation, nanobytes and anything else fantastical even exist, AC3 is all Simon's simulation, that means all history presented to you in that game is questionable unless its established in other games which makes it retconnable. So COFFIN, (Y)R series, certain characters etc clearly exist so Simon's simulation is grounded in some sense of (strange)reality but until we get 8 to see what else is happening in the world you can't take AC3 as gospel truth.
>>
>>550316989
t-55s can actually do this but the elites dont want you to know it
>>
>>550318136
Simon would have no reason to even make the simulation until Yoko dies in 2030 and I see no reason why he would set it in 2040 if he made it earlier.
He'd want it to be as accurate as possible so if he needs Nemo to delete Dision in 2040 there's no reason not to continually update and improve the simulation until 2040 to make sure it's as accurate as possible.
You can maybe kinda retcon the things that happen in AC3 but you can't retcon its starting world state.

But why would the simulation look that far into the future? He purges it at the end of AC3 meaning he's satisfied with its accuracy. There is no reason to release Nemo into the real world in like 2035 if he only needs it to kill Dision in 2040. And you still can't get rid of things like sublimation because that happens before Simon would have any reason to make the simulation.

Yoko existing is not in contention since she's mentioned outside of AC3, whether she dies, whether dision dies, whether sublimation exists, how many iterations, the timeframe, the history are all part of AC3's simulation the moment you boot the game and as such are all part of Simon's fanfic whether that's truly to simulate an upcoming war or it's just his way of dealing with being rejected by yoko or a mix of the both or none of them and something else, whether he even works for either company or not, regardless it cannot be trusted.
As previously said the only things you can confirm being real are events happening outside of AC3. Because of how AC3 is you cannot infer what happens until something happens outside, as such the devs can do anything to AC3 lore as long as it doesn't break lore outside of AC3 which leaves a lot able to be retconnable.

You literally cannot trust anything inside AC3 because its all a simulation, you can only trust events established outside of AC3 that have direct correlation (if you cant understand what this means, an example is GR existing in 7), you have never seen information outside of AC3 if/when yoko dies, if/when dision dies, if/when sublimation happens, including simon's reasons for the simulation. Until that happens there is nothing stopping the devs changing anything about AC3 other than things already established outside of it, this isn't that hard to understand.
>>
So the events of 3 both exist and don't exist until the events of AC8 touch upon it unless it don't touch upon it because who the hell knows in that case unless it's part of the DLC or something

>>550320425
Simon talks to (you) directly at the end of the game, from the real world and then releases you. He outright states his motivation is for you to erase Dision's dead-copy. This is not part of the simulation.
The only way to retcon AC3's starting world state is by just ignoring it, like they ignored AC04's world map. It being a simulation doesn't work as an excuse because we know why and when Simon made the simulation(because he talks to you directly from outside of it).
>>
>>550320425
>its all a simulation
No, the events of the Intercorporate War are a simulation.
Yoko dying is what causes Simon to create the simulation, ergo Yoko's death and Dision's sublimation are events that occured *outside of the simulation* *before it is created*
The specific purpose of the simulation is to test if Nemo is capable of killing Dision's sublimated copy no matter which course the Intercorporate War takes.
Simon tells you as much *after the simulation is over* - i.e. outside of the simulation.
So, to recap:
>Yoko exists, creates sublimation and dies
>Dision exists, dies and is sublimated
>Simon exists, knows that Yoko is dead and Dision's copy exists, and creates Nemo
>These events take place outside of the simulation and are therefore immutable

Not at all close. There is no chance we get an ending where the triumph is dampened by the country we are fighting for losing autonomy. Corpos coming out on top only works if you align the player with them from the beginning and present them as a justified/necessary throughout. That means either a story which comes across as pro corporate messaging, or a complex narrative where we play as the bad guy. Neither is to be expected from this writer.
If the chronology merges with 3 it will happen very abruptly, either in 9, or off screen between 8 and 9.
>>550276676
>there's gotta be some thought to that on the writing staff right
Fans and writers think about things very differently. Writers are typically more interested in their story ideas and building a portfolio they can show off than audience expectations. To us it's a favorite IP but for them it's a job.
>>550323191
>shameful
I doubt anyone actually thinks that, but we haven't been given much reason to think they are especially interested in the concept either. A lot of the apprehension probably comes from the date being 2029, which is close to some of the background stuff for 3. But that was probably just to keep the setting a couple of years in the future, not a deliberate attempt to step on 3's toes or anything like that. It's safe to assume they haven't made the decision to retcon anything yet.

Don't need to apologise buddy i'm not perfect either, looking forward to 8, its been painful coping for announcements the last couple of years. I really hope there's mission co-op like steam page implies.
>>
I was watching a video of someone yapping about 8's trailer and concerns/hopes for the game, and one thing that stuck out to me from the vid and comments was a few people saying Ace Combat should just ditch licensing altogether or at least not so heavily focus on it. I think that idea is insane personally but I'm curious: if Ace Combat 8 had real fake planes would it bother you? Think like the planes in Project Wingman where they're generally accurate but off enough to be legally distinct. Do you need the gake to call an F-18 an F-18 for muh immersion or are you only turned off by outright fake standins for the planes?
>>
>>550329827
Having the real names is best, having pseudonyms like in PW is okay, but it'd feel weird if AC starting doing that now. If they started making every plane a fake plane like the ones in Arma 3 then that'd be dumb.
>>
>>550329827
ace combat having a licenced aircraft roster is part of the appeal for me, it lets you tap into the emotion of what you feel for certain jets not only in flying but gawking at them in the hanger and screenshots without them feeling/looking off model, it also has a clear line between them and the superplanes this way
>>
>>550329827
Yeah nah, the licensed stuff is super cool and what sets it apart from all the AC indie clones with their F-69 block 420s

AC should still have a lot of actual fictional designs though, they're always cool looking and high quality cough PW cough
>>
>>550329827
I'd rather avoid knockoffs but I do worry what happens if they like, lose licenses down the road and something happens like with MGS changing the names of guns.
>>
>>550329827
I think for Ace Combat in particular it'd lose a bit of it's charm to drop real planes or real plane names, especially now that we're this deep into the franchise and being a part of Bamco means they're one of the few studios in this niche that can invest in licensing and whatnot.
I don't mind non-AC plane games with fake plane rosters though, Nuclear Option is rad as hell.
>>
>>550330453
I do love AC's sci-fi planes but I agree I want a mix. I think we should get more cyberplanes the closer we get to 2040, even just implementing the ones we've already had so far in a more prominent way would be cool.

pic related isn't a recolor of anything buddy. I was looking forward to some new blood in 8 but it wasn't meant to be. Following the same story template over the same continent AND the same planes again is not ideal, hopefully they make up for it with superplanes. All will be forgiven if my wife Fenrir is in the campaign.
>>550332203
I do wonder what China gets out of this. Seems like they would benefit from the publicity/legitimacy of having their new jets in an internationally sold game, even if cast in the villain role. Maybe they were worried the portrayal would be too unfavorable, like if PA made them perform worse than western counterparts. And the threat of being removed from the Chinese steam store if Chengu cries to the government has been made much more credible recently.
>>
I replayed AC7 earlier this year and finally played the DLC missions too. I feel like the issues with the writing the game had goes beyond just stuff mashed together in re-writes. A sizable chunk of the dialogue just feels nigh incomprehensible, like words were strung together nearly at random. It's especially bad in the DLC with not-CIA man and his AI chatbot, like seriously what in the fuck is even happening?

If 8's writing even feels human by comparison it will be a win in my book.

It's not like I have a particular love for 'em (outside of the F-CK-1, I think that one's cool) but they would've been nice.
Especially since we're currently in that part of next-gen aircraft development where it's all still hush-hush and speculative with only mockups and stuff to tide us over, so it's not like they can really crowbar NGAD/F-47/Tempest/FCAS/GCAP into the game.

I've thought that sort of thing a few times. About what it would be like if there was an Ace Combat that had two protagonists (one for both sides) and it swapped between them every few missions. I imagine eventually you'd have to choose to either join the other protagonists side (presumably the 'good guysâ„¢') and betray your own, or take them down and branch off the story fighting against said 'good guys'. Even though the latter path would lead to a 'bad ending' and almost certainly wouldn't even be considered canon but it'd still be interesting if nothing else.

>>550369269
The gameplay is AC7's main saving grace, as far as I can tell.
IMO, the gimmicks in 7 (the main reason why many prefer Zero's, 6's and even 04's gameplay over 5's, which is stuffed full of them) aren't too annoying and they don't overstay their welcome:
>The HUD lock in 444 doesn't last long, and the mission itself is a lot of fun once you get past it
>When it appears (in precisely two missions) thunder can be avoided by avoiding the clouds themselves
>The sandstorm in Pipeline Destruction is only really annoying if you try to S-Rank the mission
>The Bunker Buster SPW only appears once, and is relatively fun to use
>The target ID stuff is only there for two missions, and can be made trivial by padlocking
The main area where 7's gameplay drops the ball are the boss fights. The closest the game comes to actually giving you a "fair" fight that doesn't rely on scripting, invincibility or overly inflated health pools coupled with bullshit missile lock breaking are the Sols. Even then:
>In Mission 15, all they do is run away from you
>In Mission 18, all they do is fly sluggishly and Cobra into your missiles
The game does not have a single battle against enemy aces that feels fair and engaging.

Not a fan of the first person perspective cutscenes, or establishing such a large cast of characters, or how it seemingly sets up the story to retread old ground, especially reusing the the 'last remaining carrier' concept again. But I'm still hyped, was hoping for a more unique soundtrack than the standard bombastic orchestra but the trailer music changed my mind. I feel like this is gonna be a good one.
>>550379968
What >>550381754 said, those points are largely in order of importance too. Main issue is the story and writing. The actual moment-to-moment game-play was alright, despite the fact that the 'arcade' flight model was cranked up to 12 so the planes are basically buoyant in air but also attached to invisible rails. I think the reason people are upset is the evident missed potential. If they had gotten anyone else to write the script it would probably be widely accepted as best in the series.
> hamfisted themes even for this franchise's standards
Not just that, but the themes and messages contradicted eachother and were not supported but the gameplay/plot.
7 isn't all bad though. The skies are visually stunning, and that's with the botched clouds they rushed in imagine how good 8 will look. The 2nd DLC mission is a top tier battle, and mission 11 of the campaign is THE best ground-pounding in the series.

I bet Kono is sad the Navy has still failed to announce the FA-XX. I bet he was counting on it with this being a Navy game. Speaking of this will be the first game our AWACS will be in an E-2 instead of the normal 767.

>Not just that, but the themes and messages contradicted eachother and were not supported but the gameplay/plot.
The main theme of the finished story was overreliance on AI causing war to get almost completely out of control of any human actors. Without Trigger's tunnel run under the space elevator, the world would have been plunged into a forever war dictated solely by computers. I felt this was theme specifically was built up pretty decently. If it gets tripped up, it's on more minor theme or plot concepts, usually in how people expected Spare to be more important than they actually were, an aftereffect of the rewrite away from the conspiracy plot (which was too much of a rehash of 5) toward the drone plot.

>the story is messy at times but is understandable due to its development
This is a partly a misconception, The gameplay features/systems had to be simplified into something less ambitious but functional, that was the hard part and they succeeded. The same should have and absolutely could have happened for the script, but not enough was done there. I can't find it so you'll have to Trust Me Bro but there is quote (I don't think it was translated) where Kono admits he was dissatisfied with the story, but Katabuchi has seniority and more industry clout so it couldn't be helped. The way this works internally is that the writers name is on the screenplay and in the credits, so the company needs his permission for any substantive changes or cuts. And if there are production issues which require major changes said writer is supposed to come back in and supervise. So if the lead writer has moved on to other projects, or is attached to certain ideas/plot-points/characters, and insists "it's fine, leave things as they are" it results in all kinds of issues as we see in 7.

I'll cut it some slack. The first trailers for 04, 5, Zero, and 7 all felt really raw and rushed in their own ways (I'm not sure if the TGS 2007 trailer for 6 is the first one. If it is, then I'd say it's a job well done).

Because it's not real. Might as well add in their own original design, maybe something that ties in with AC3's roster. Like something between the XFA-27 and XFA-36.
They haven't really been adding these paper designs since AC5(and then it was mostly about filling out the roster because every plane only had 1 SPW).

Because techbros say it can and the graft is real
After all the goal now it to milk as much money from the taxpayers on projects which are as likely to get anywhere as Teller's X-Ray Laser delusions were.
Remember there's not even plans for the Super Space Radars yet and they won't be ready for years if not decades. Meanwhile "JuSt UsE HaWkEyEs" is just retardation
""Suvivability Issues"" tend to get solved if you have planes flying escort to intercept the ultra long range missile pukers. Its a solved problem just like how Carriers "Suvivability Issues" against Backfires was solved with interceptors with long range missiles.

Related Super Hornets now have Air Launched SM-6s with the AIM-174B which probably could say hello to targets at least 240 km out (assuming no gains from being air launched compared to ground launched), will need a F-35 or AWACS to spot for ultra long range shots but hey they got the fancy sensors for a reason.
>>
>>550401875
Datalink also solves the survivability problem for the Hornets themselves.
>Meanwhile "JuSt UsE HaWkEyEs" is just retardation
Which are probably going to be just as survivable, if not less, compared to the Wedgetails... simply because they're less capable. Lower cost probably doesn't matter, either, considering that more will be needed to cover the same airspace.

Hell the Wedgetail orders would probably have been cheaper than just developing the Spess Radars, much less building and launching a constellation, which are as mentioned even more vulnerable as ASAT is becoming easier to access.
Since optimistic estimates are looking to the mid-2030s for such a system to even be remotely ready to roll out the first ones.

Remember the illusion of saving money is the key and having a moron running the DOD who's pretty much a COD kiddie thinking Special Forces work like in the Movies is not helping either.
They're now wanting a fucking 21st Century BATTLESHIP for the USN even though everyone knows that thing is getting sunk without contributing. At least the Kirovs fit the Bastion strategy by being big enough targets to draw attention due to their loads of carrier killer missiles, but are like the rest of the Russian surface fleet expected to missile spam, SAM spam and hopefully do enough damage before dying patriotically and making the NATO incursion have to turn back due to being rendered combat ineffective due to losses.

Are they? I thought that massive airframes for AEW&C don't really matter as much because we're long past the era of mechanical radars and modern day AESA's are much more efficient both energy and weight-wise.
Europe is also interested in lighter airframes for this task (GlobalEye).

>>550408770
I'm fine with no hub base
Their is one type of hub base I could find acceptable. And I think most of us here would as well. Its a large hanger/work area of your carrier where all your planes are accessible. You can take pictures with them on a free cam type drone. Have your squad mates and various crew members pose with the plane and you.
But how do we get around the faceless pilot deal? Easy you walk about the hub in a full flight gear with helmet on visor down.
Yeah my hub idea is just a fancy photo mode
>>
>>550410264
It's a neat idea in concept but maybe out of the realm of where PA wants to advance. Hell, you have a ton of people here who hate having 1st Person back at all, much less spending a ton of time wandering around the carrier.
>>
>>550397420
what do ekranoplanes do about rough sea conditions? do they just go around the storms or are they forced to stay in port?
>>
>>550411349
afaik they can't be used in rough seas, they also take a century to turn just a few degrees and needed other ships to spot for them
>>
>>550410264
After some thought I'm going to expand this fancy photo mode idea
You can move around above or below deck place your planes as you want. You can watch them take off and land. You can watch them do a full tow them to the elevator get them on deck and launch them. You can switch to a sky view to view your ship and plane setup while being able to launch and land planes from this view
After you beat the game you can now have enemy characters walking around so you can take pictures with them if you want. Along with the carrier you have the option to do all this at an air base if you want more space. Then all in all the usual shit like a place to watch cutscenes, a kill board etc

>>550410616
That's the best part it won't be in first person it'll be in 3rd person hence the full pilot gear at all times. The other good part the Hub isn't mandatory its an option that will appear after you clear 3 missions. Letting you play normal story mode or free mission. Again what I want is really nothing more than a very fancy photo mode not some mandatory part of the game.
>>
What if you play as a revolving door of Rex's throughout the campaign? Like you get shot down, suddenly you're in another POV of another person getting the Rex Helmet. Like that cutscene of the glowy giving you the flight helmet is what you watch whenever you hit the continue button and you only get a true game over when everyone on the carrier is dead.

Well according to that Gamespot interview, enemy behaviour is something they've spent a good amount of effort on advancing. I think because there's a lot more factors that interact with enemy AI now, like the clouds, the aforementioned increasingly granular destruction, etc.

Fun fact: if you stick around in Rescue until after Gargoyle shoots at the elevator, the game spawns another Gargoyle F-14 at the end of the map that beelines towards you and sticks behind you that is internally tagged as Georg's plane; likely a left-over from when Georg actually had a degree of plot relevance.

Probably? The game is very "AC5" about Trigger being let out of Spare where it's basically "this dude kicked so much ass he couldn't have done it, we gotta pardon him" and then the LRSSG is completely left in the dark about Trigger and Count's time in Spare Squadron - apparently Spare's penal status isn't known at all outside of those responsible for it.
The in-game 'you're absolved' moment is when Labarthe in Last Hope states over the radio to the LRSSG and co. that Erusea used IFF-faking drones to kill Harling (with Count being the only one to recognize the significance).

>with Count being the only one to recognize the significance
Count going from blowhard to buddy throughout the campaign is one of, if not the, most satisfying things from 7's narrative. Would've been cool to drag Tabloid and Avril around for the fun as well, or at least hear Bantzdog and any remainders of Spare during the last two missions.
>>
>>550424891
I know that having the player be the one that does it was never the plan but I wish they hadn't cucked out.
They had the perfect setup. You don't have the aircraft tree on a first run so you're stuck with your F-16 with 4AAMs. The drones always swarm around Mother goose one and then fly straight, making for perfect juicy targets for multilocks. Mother goose one pings you so you turn around, lock on, and fire, which is then followed by the MAGE 2! cutscene.
On my first run I honestly thought I did it, especially after they revealed the IFF hacking. I thought the game would just swap Harling's IFF for that last moment to fuck with you.

One would think that the LRSSG would know about Trigger somehow being involved in Harling's death though.
It's like if Jimmy Carter went on tour in Afghanistan during primetime War on Terror, got kidnapped by the Taliban and then nobody in the entire US, including its military barring a select few, were ever privy to the identity of the A-10 Warthog pilot that allegedly strafed the fucking place.

That's kinda necessary to get missile hits. Try playing a game that doesn't do that but also has AC's kinda dumb and easy to dodge missiles, you end up having to kill every air target with the gun.
RaiderSphere4th is a good example, the A2A missiles are kinda useless aside from the occasional joust kill.

VR is a really expensive piece of equipment and the people who have them, really want to justify the purchase. To see a flight game, one of the biggest franchise of them as well, drop it is blasphemy to them. VR needs to be like $100-200 at most before it can get anywhere mainstream. Who's going to choose VR headsets over a GPU (or nowadays a decent amount of RAM)? The GPU and RAM are prerequisites to even get the VR set-up working. Until it gets to be that cheap, it will forever remain a niche product.

The original Kickstarter for Rift was asking for $300 ($275 unassembled) from backers and came with a copy of Doom 3. Realistically the things might've retailed for $350, big sales discounts would bring them back down to $300, and a budget or "Lite" model could've shot for $250.

I counted the missions years ago, and 7 or 24% of 5's missions are "gimmick" missions, ie that radar one, Four Horseman etc, and three where you don't even get real weapons. Compared to 4 which had 2, the balloon one and the cruise missile one, Zero which had none, and 7 which had two but they're not that bad, Faceless Soldier's altitude restriction and Magic Spear's silo bombing. Compared to the other games, 5's gimmicks were annoying and just made replaying levels worse.

I can't wait for the Trimfaxi to make its debut as the 3rd Yuktobanian giga submarine 5 levels down the road! I'm enjoying 5 a lot, but it really feels like your ammo is super restricted though, a shame they got rid of resupplying, it kinda sucks having to forgo wanting to kill some targets in favor of just beelining through to mission objectives, less score, less money, and overall less freedom on some missions. I am loving the mission variety though, much better early on compared to 4's "score X and wait Y minutes" for like 70% of the game, or whatever it felt like.

I'm gonna be honest the first person cutscenes shit really bothers me. I hope its not for EVERY single cutscene involving the player character. Shit like diving into the roundtable just doesn't look as cool from the cockpit.
Also, the Block III should have been the hero plane instead of just the regular degular ass hornet.
Also please PLEASE PLEEEEAAASE give us a next gen Tomcat that isn't the XFA-27. I love that super plane but the TGM Tomcat was my dream come true. Tomcat 21 PLEAAASSEEEE

The Hornet that fired the missile was a drone Hornet, not manned. You can tell by the light on it; it’s why that light next to the cockpit is prominent in some of the intro shots for the drone Hornets in Faceless Soldier. It’s the same ones.

I just assume in AC world, no one knew about drones of existing fighter models that could dogfight like that; only reason no one in game calls it out. Kind of ignores the ZOE stuff but oh well.
>>
>>550462762
The big problem was they kept adding on more and more stuff on top of the design to the point where it was unrealistic as a frigate design. I’ll pray they fire someone at the design bureau and that this will serve as a lesson for a better frigate class, like how the Seawolfs were for the Virginias.

Was the V-22 Harling was "flying" a drone as well? Seems real convenient for it to turn around while it's communications are unintelligible and it also seemed convenient for the Eruseans to leave a ready to fly bird unsupervised after an aerial assault.

I don't think it's the fault of whoever was thinkering with the design. The fault lies on whoever decided they should buy something another country made while not loosening the regulations required to be part of the US Navy. I guess the fault lies with whoever decided to buy a foreign design out of desperation in the first place.

>>

If I'm not mistaken, the reason why they even bought a ready design is mainly to cut down on costs and development time. A FREMM with extra stuff stacked on top is theoretically much cheaper and quicker to produce than building a design from the ground up
>>
>>550470512
It would be if it didn't need to have so much shit bolted on to meet US Navy safety standards and it's requirements. It seems like a poorly thought out idea that was rushed and quite a few people saw it coming back when it was announced.

>>550461207
I've always felt two ways about Final Option because I think it's a good concept and fantastic from a narrative point of view but the mission itself is boring as fuck because where the only challenging part of it is the last 30 seconds of it. It's aggravating because this series has done missions that are purely challenge flying in the past (like the ravine missions in AC2) and this one has none of it.

>>550468387
Probably not. The story's implication and such are there for the drones, it's why the random Hornet drones get such a dramatic entrance in Faceless Soldier; they don't spell it out well but it's implying that these are the drones that framed you and killed Harling.

The story doesn't really give us any suggestion that the V-22 could be a drone. The conversation between Avril and Cossette debating on whether Harling wanted to destroy or protect the space elevator suggests that he was in control, it's the whole thing with Harling's Mirror and all that. If the game wanted us to think the V-22 was a drone too, they would've left a clue to that, rather than have two characters debating the opposite.

>>550468961
Osea was apparently the cause of them starting it so at this point who knows.

>>550468601
The original design looked fine, it's just the Navy did what the Navy does and keeps trying to load too much stuff onto it. We're already piling obscene amount of extra stuff on top of the Arleigh Burkes to the point they're getting top-heavy.
>>
>>550470326

Fantastic game, honestly loved it as much as I did 3, while it did have its quirks that were a bit frustrating, the story was fun, campy as that one anon said, and also very touching, it was so much longer than 4, but it never really lost my interest.

I feel like the planes actually felt much more different between each other than before, I'm not sure how to put it into words exactly, but the dynamic or weight of them? Anyways they felt good to play with, so I'm very satisfied overall with this entry.

I don't think anyone who has played them all would disagree, it was a low point made worse by coming directly after 4. None of the main games have worse gameplay, though it is better than AH. And 5's story was the worst until 7 came along.

I would say that it's not overrated solely by the fact that I haven't seen it get much praise to begin with especially here. the anti war themes might've had been a bit particularly heavy handed at times but I can't help but like the small moments like The Journey Home being sung at multiple points during the story or the incredible climax that was the Unsung War, and Chopper's death is by far the most impactful death in the entire series

The two will be connected. Every superplane's unique SPWs are miniaturised versions of that game's superweapons.

although I agree 7 has its flaws, besides like 2-3 missions I dont find 7 unfun to play like 5 is. I think 5 is good on a first run because of the production value and the "epic" story. It gets worse on every replay. Sea of Chaos is just about the only mission that's fun to replay.
7 is worse on a first run because the story is kinda bad and stitched together but it has enough good missions to be a fun replay.

AC7 really was a hail mary throw from the end zone that ended up winning the game, there was a stretch of time from 2017-2018 where one bamco executive having a bad day could have shitcanned 7 and that would have been it for AC.
