I listened to Star-mine a few more times to try to pinpoint what went wrong. I think it was just a bunch of little things.Ume is both a specific voice she puts on, and a specific delivery for that voice. She needs to sing decently while keeping up both the voice and the performance, but then drop the performance while keeping the voice for a few specific lines where she is supposed to sing well, but not too well because Ume is still growing. That balance between singing and being Ume is probably hard to maintain, so she leans too far into the Ume side.Sena actually did really well. It's just that given her character, anything less than her absolute best sounds unusual. A live performance is rarely going to be her absolute best, and in this case, it was not.You could have told me the real Misuzu got lost so they grabbed some random woman off the street to fill in for her, and I would have believed you.
