Yes we remember that reddit AMA where Kondo said that there were 3 more arcs planned after Cold Steel. But Kondo has kept reiterating in interviews over the past six years that he would like to retire and end the series by 2030, which is clearly not going to happen at the current rate they push out mainline games if they do 3 arcs. So that leaves us with three possibilities:

1. Kondo stays past 2030 and continues producing Trails games until whenever it ends.
2. Kondo ends the series by 2030 and retires. He may or may not stick around for a while to set up his employees with a new flagship IP to keep them afloat.
3. Kondo retires but does not end the series, leaving Falcom with their flagship franchise to keep them afloat.

Kondo is unmarried and doesn't have anything else going for him in life unless he wants to try getting married and having children at age 50, which is possible now that Kato is dead and Kondo has the keys to the kingdom. People who retire early often get bored of retirement and try doing work again anyway. It'd probably be in his best interest to stay, and also I'd imagine he wouldn't end Trails and say "cya" and leave his people without a franchise that has at least 50,000 Japanese fans willing to buy day 1 + however many overseas fans they have. But who knows.

My guess is finishing Trails is when Kondo retires, next arc and or Kai 2 they do the big reveal that orbal energy comes from outside Zemuria and they do some fucking esoteric shit like Xenosaga where orbal energy is the power source of an Upper Domain shit.
