Blazblue is peak anime fighting games. Chrono Phantasma started the peak, Xrd was peak, P4A was casual slop done right. Arc Sys was at their best during this period. The only reason everything went south is because they still needed an answer for why Street Fighter 5 with all its problems was still the number 1 fighting game on the market. They found a solution with DBFZ and have carried those design philosophies on to become what they are today. Honorable mentions Melty Blood AACC, Chaos Code, and even Arcana Heart. No matter how feel about certain games one thing we can all agree on is that they weren't chasing behind Capcom like everything today. Arcana Heart was the best Dragon Ball game before DBFZ and it introduced how a DragonBall game would play in as a 1v1 fighting game
