Especially right at this moment when I've done literally everything and am just waiting for Expedition. I really can't see this gameplay loop keeping me invested. After Expedition and filling out the next raider deck I'll probably just play when there's updates every few months. I'm amazed by how confused people are about PvP in this game. Video games are cool because they reveal that people have no ability to reason about morality. "It's a PvP game" ergo "I have permission to do this" is the limit of some players' ability to think. Many cannot disentangle the questions "should this be permitted" and "is this morally OK to do"Also funny is the idea that the appearance is the reality.. "killing people is wrong", "I defeated you in combat", etc.Basically this is a game where you have the option to pull mildly annoying pranks on people that are kind of cheap and easy to do and mostly you'll get away with it. Is that right? Is that wrong? It's pretty low-stakes. I think it's more interesting that 99% of gamers don't know how to "play" in this "game", they are either trying to foragemaxx or KoSmaxx as if these are simple win conditions. Actually once you've done a bare minimum of stocking up your stash this is really not that different from Second Life, you are just on a server where you can interact with strangers, that's the fun. Will they ever balance the PVP? Or rather, PVP damage? Shooting someone in the back is the best "skill" in the game. They shoot first and basically no matter what weapon they have, you're dead. Your shield is broken and your HP is half gone before you even turn around, literally. It takes as long to turn around and aim your weapon as it does for them to delete 80+% of your HP and if they have a stitcher/bobcat/shotgun, you aren't winning, plain and simple. How are some players so unfathomably stupid? Played a random trios game just to get some quick loot. We're on Spaceport and we hear 3 guys enter a locked room then go up the rope. All three of them. What do both of my teammates do? Instantly rush into the same room, go up the rope, and get completely demolished. I mean seriously what the fuck did they think was going to happen? What is the actual % chance either or both of them went up the loud ass rope into a choke point and somehow managed to kill all 3 of them? Like probably less than 2%, maybe even less than 1%. I was on the fence about the existence of Chungartha because the anecdotes do coincide with expedition, new project etc. HOWEVER I just traded/learned all the BPs I want to play fully geared, and had about 12 leftover.I started giving them away in game, 1-2 at a time, so I loaded in naked and just approached people asking if they want them/if theyre doing the expedition. I shit you not, within 10-15 games of doing this (on top of about 5 more of just trading + surrender), I am now put into lobbies where people are fighting the big arc, run right past me from behind my back, LOADS of people with mics or at least emoting. This is in stark contrast to my usual lobbies where nobody talks, no emotes, kos.Chungartha is absolutely real and I am in it. I won't stay in it for too long as I do like to PvP in this game, but it's insane how different the experience is. Stella Montis is the biggest display - I just had a game where 6 people teamed up on the bastion which has not happened for about 100 previous raids? Insane.

The playerbase is currently splitting itself apart into two groups, one of which allows themselves to be killed so they get put into friendlier lobbies and the other defends the ambush style PvP. In this literal instance of a PVE side and PVP side, producing events and modes which cater to either side specifically would do less harm to the game's longevity than what Embark is doing now: nothing.It's held together for now with nothing more than a belief and hearsay that you get matched with people who share the same aggressive. or lack thereof.

I think the issues with pvp partially extend from how they balanced distance engagements. If you buff shields, long range engagements become peashooter fights. A light shield can already take multiple ferro shots if the shooter is more than 60m away. I imagine a scenario where two raiders shoot each other with snipers while both wearing heavy shields would almost never result in one of them dying unless they refuse to take cover. Not sure what the answer is here, but the issues with stella and other close range TTK probably are rooted in the existence of the much larger other maps.

Turn off all the exponential ramping shit. You'll have to find your own balance of vertical scaling/FOV. It's all relative to itself. I'm not near my console, so I can't screenshot my settings, but you can fine tune it in the practice range.
