Really enjoying Coldsteel III at the moment. The highs aren't nearly as high as in the early games and the repeating tropes are getting beyond old, but this is probably the game I've been enjoying talking to NPCs the most. The graphical update has done a lot for immersion (even if it does feel a tad desaturated at times). I like that new dynamic of Rean being a teacher watching his students grow. Combat is super fun, but the game is just too damn easy. I'm playing on hard and while it provided a good challenge early on I barely see enemies take turns anymore, Break as a mechanic is just too skewed in the players favor.Not sure what to expect with 4 since it seems to split the fanbase quite a bit, I am however really excited for Reverie since 3rd is my favorite game in the franchise and I heard it's kinda more of that.

Kai... is not very good. Clearly, they've gone all-in with this battle engine that originated with Daybreak. And while it IS improved from even Sky 1st Chapter....it still feels like it lessens the game experience having it. Despite being more action-oriented, it just felt boring compared to Cold Steel II and even Cold Steel III - hard to explain it.The animation mannerisms are grossly over-exaggerated, especially Rean. Everyone is cocky and smug instead of exhibiting the personalities seen in prior games.The first simulator stage is way too long and generic; like Daybreak, just a hallway with forced battles.Reflections look great, but that's all. Everything looks "overbright" and washed out, textures are lacking, sparse grass (even more than Final Fantasy XV), nice looking but scrawny trees, etc.Camera is wonky and the "zoom in and up" motion when getting close to characters is nauseating.Assuming this represents the beginning of the actual game, everything is 90% overserious with no "build' - starting with a lighthearted introduction to all characters and world building, then build to the seriousness of the story over time, which Daybreak 1 did a masterful job of.Too much effort was put into making EVERY female look not their age. I think reverie ended the cold steel arc on a good note and ended Lloyd’s arc on a bad note so you see less discourse for cold steel. Back when cs4 was still the new localized game there was a lot of hate for it. Reverie answered finished off character arcs from cs4.
