Rewrite is NOT the game you should be emulating if you're trying to prove that Key can still write a good full length VN. Rewrite is the game that ruined everything for Key. It's not just about the switch to all-ages, though that was a damn shame in its own right. Rewrite was also fucking ugly, none of the characters' motivations made any sense, none of the jokes landed, they had way too many writers who never talked to each other, and the plot took 40 hours to "get good" (in this case getting good means letting Romeo write). Rewrite was a fucking tragedy that took Key eight years to recover from.

Finally got to FSN UBW's H-scene. Okay, why it's so garbage? Instead of it being a climactic scene it kinda ruins both characters. They just randomly stumble around like drunk elephants, make all kinds of wrong choices, and didn't really enjoy themselves. Okay, some might make 'it was their "first time"!' excuse, but this necessitates doing thing "properly" a second time... Except there wasn't a second time.

Yuzuriha, despite the multiple years of delay, was horrifyingly unfinished and felt like they ran out of money/time and just released what they had. It would randomly cut to h-scenes and cut back, like they did the h-scenes early on in development but then had no idea where to put them. Absolute mess of a VN. And trying to tie it in to Ayakashibito at the end was tacky.

Finished Episode 2 (Downfall) of Mamiya last night. That ended on a truly great twist that I did not see coming. It was initially totally baffling. But the game then explains it in a very unique way using its credits sequence. Even after that it took me a few minutes to put it all together, e.g. what exactly pic related was referring to. But once I gave it some thought everything clicked and a lot of things made sense.

There had been several things bugging me about this particular character, for most of the game really, but I wasn't able to come to any solid conclusion. But after seeing the twist I was able to remember at least one substantial clue from earlier in the game; you'd have to be reading very attentively in order to recognize the inconsistency, though. Anyway, this is a game that rewards you for reading carefully and paying attention, which I appreciate.

Going on to Episode 3, a few questions remain (I'll give my theories)
1. Who/what is Mamiya?
I think that Mamiya is the Spectator imprisoned in the Library, and the story Natsume is interacting with is the story that the Spectator decided to interfere with.
2. How did Natsume die?
No clue. But I'll let this slide into my theory for the next question.
3. Who did Samejima target after he became MAMIYA?
Since he didn't target Suou it had to be someone else. My guess is that it was actually Natsume. Natsume knew Suou as a child so that would give him a possible connection to Samejima, and could also explain why Natsume died. We know Natsume didn't have a particularly normal life, everything points to him being rather lonely, so I think that would create an opening. But he'd remember, right? Not necessarily, because Natsume's memories aren't complete, having lost some when he passed the River of Oblivion (for example he doesn't remember how he died).

Anyway, I'm very excited for Episode 3 (Doomsday Dreams).

I still have absolutely no idea how the sakura trees - or the sound that heralds the end of the world - has anything to do with what is otherwise a fairly contained murder mystery. Like, genuinely not even a clue of how these could possibly be related. Considering we already have a super drug, I guess it'll have to be some kind of magic? I can't think of anything else.
