Also - more attention to custom battles, neglected part of total war games. Make them actual sandbox - have a mode where you can deploy and and all units of any faction on your side (or enemies), multiple side battles, toy soldiers style mode (hotseat for custom battles) where you can control all units of all factions to fuck around. More map variety. I maybe forgetting some shit. How much hope should I have in CA?

I used to play VH, but they changed something fucky to it in the past year or so. It's too overwhelming now. Not in an impossible to win sense, but a no tactic and long term planning sense. You have to fight 3-4v1's constantly to gain territory and the AI doesn't even care. It'll keep pumping out those stacks even on 1 settlement. I play hard/hard now.

For total war games to get better (battlewise) AI needs to know what reserves, ambushing units, flank protectors, skirmisher screens are and know how to use them. Then you would have both more "realistic" battles and more interesting ones.

Very few factions have access to basic infantry as good as demonettes, just avoid getting charged by cavalry, chariots etc.

It’s a game of putting out fires everywhere. Raze everything. And try to make alliances with people near your forests if you aren't going to wipe them out. Khatep in my sisters campaign was the best AI wingman I've had, held Morathi in a chokepoint and killed tons of her armies, and even swung by to kill an army spawned by the rebirth ritual. Also, friendly owned heathlands count as protected and heal your tree, so you don't necessarily need to go to war with every faction around a tree.

I don't like Dechala's campaign. She's both overtuned, boring and also annoying in the not a challenge way. Everyone else is just a mosquito to be slapped and your recruitment is initially slow and weak, so you will likely get some mosquito ai bites that are just annoying but not a big deal. Also Pleasure Palaces feel like something out of a cheat mod and thralls are not an issue past turn 30, there's so many resources and ports in Cathay and they're full of thralls. I like all the other ToT lords but not her

She feels like she's "almost" done right, but while Aislinn was underpowered and someone at CA was stingy as fuck about everything, here they went the other way, to her detriment. Even pre-nerf Skulltaker was more satisfying to me.
