That used to happen to me too. Turns out I was just very unhealthy, so I started eating healthier, decreased my portions of food, and started running for 20 mins everyday. Now my heartrate at rest is pretty good and when excited (like during a chess game) doesn't get too high. I gained rating too. Kasparov wasn't talking nonsense when he said physical fitness improves chess ability.

>690 gifted subs.
I asked chat gpt how much a gifted sub costs. Lowest level is 5 dollars.
That is a minimum of $3450.
>>
>>551234904
Marc Esserman has one guy who's donated over $20k. There are multiple others who have donated thousands in either bits or subs to him as well.
>>
>>551236137
probably a country with a tax loophole. I think at one point saudi arabia considered donations something you could do instead of paying an amount of taxes, so they'd just donate thousands of dollars to tittystreamers rather than improve their own country.
>>
>>551236787
Nope. The guy's American and completes in USCF tournaments.
>>
>>551234904

wrong, the saudi arabian men were getting free tax discounts to donate to foreign streamers, like some topless girl in scotland. It has zero to do with marc esserman's country.
>>
>>551237659
Same here, but I can kinda see logic if you're a big fan that you're basically paying for the entertainment that they gave you and to support them to continue doing so.

so many of the young south Asian kids pull this BS, just report them to the TD. one little shit had 3 possible queen moves in a position, so he moved his queen to a square still holding the queen and then evaluated the position that way for a few minutes. I left the board, told the TD about it, the TD came close to the board, I sat back down, and the kid kept doing it as soon as I got to the board. The TD intervened after about 10 seconds and took time away on the clock for the little shit. They are mostly all little shits. The tapping of pencils, the needless rocking back and forth, etc. In the OTB tourney I played this past weekend, one of them stared at me like he was Tal. I responded by drinking my drinking and giving him the finger when doing so. To hell with all of them, they all think they're going to be the next Anand, and almost all of them will never get any kind of chess scholarship. Those are the ones I respect, the ones going for scholarships. The rest will eventually drop chess and will never be seen again. In the meantime they are making OTB tournaments miserable. Next tourney I'm bring earplugs, let them complain about that! Little shits

And I won't ban every single strong player that shows up without proof of either 1.cheating or 2.being name-related to catmixer, if that's what you're implying .
If you're not doing any of the above, then I don't care. Even if you are catmixer, I still don't care. Good for you for finally figuring out what not to do to be allowed on the team

Not happening. And neither are the rated weekly tournaments either
>>551254124
People stopped playing in the tournaments on multiple occasions due to him being there because a lot believed he was cheating, most likely intermittently and by playing unrated games to avoid detection. Catmixer account originally, fogfrogfong more recently that I remember.
There have been long threads about this more than once, and the easiest way to avoid all of that is just to not allow any account related to him and have the tournaments as rated. Both of these two rules remain, the unrated Christmas tournaments are just a temporary indulgence, so if that Iamtoolazy account is him, I assume he will disappear as soon as the rated tournaments return

This is fertile grounds for revolution. See, when Aerelant attempted to overthrow the establishment there wasn't popular sentiment against it. Now, with the general (the three of us, at least) upset with Zoombam, there is fuel for something to actually happen.

Probably the one who writes stupid rules like no catmixers and don’t play openings I don’t approve of. That’s the one I want to congratulate me.
>>
>>551270587
Let’s make the tournaments rated. I’m in favor of this. Are you saying there was cheating today? God I’d love for you to try and argue that lol
>>
>>551270660
So you're claiming it's some big win because... you snuck in and played in a tournament you were barred from playing because everyone hates you?
And how do you know he didn't already congratulate you here?
>>551245114
It can't because that's you talking about yourself since you never do that right?
>>
>>551270806
There was cheating. You can't play by yourself at all. You have like 900 elo without an engine.
>>
>>551271290
Yes, sneaking into a tournament you’re banned from because one loser irrationally hates you, and then beating that loser and winning the tournament is super based. Can you admit that? I guess not since you’re that loser
>>
>>551209496
This is very ironic. Look at all the seething.
>>
>>551271613
This is why people hate you. You are incredibly nasty and vindictive and try to embarrass people and gloat over beating them.
If you weren't a sociopath nobody would have a problem with you.
>>
>>551271970
No I am not going to be nice to you. If you want to be a bitch I’ll treat you like one. I’ve posted many times I’m willing to make peace and move on. Instead you choose humiliation and I’m happy to give it to you.

So how come your main account has 1970 blitz rating with a stable rating deviation yet somehow in this tournament you beat everybody, with a 2390 rating performance?
And don't say because of drinking

Hey stupid, I don’t have to prove the negative. Show me one of the games from today you think is suspicious. I’ll wait…

Those are bongcloud games what are you talking about.
>>

What is your point in showing this screenshot zoombam? If catmixer is toolazytotry he was obivously playing side games to avoid suspicion during the tournament. You played right into his hand. Or should I say paw?

Jerome Jerome
>>
>>551273204
That is annoying but thanks for posting anyway.
>>
>>551272767
The point is none of those games are bongcloud and none of these games are at 2400 rating performance.
So either you're smurfing on your main account, enough so as to get a stable rating deviation, or you're cheating on your alt accounts. Either way, there is some tomfoolery happening.

You can't be both 2400 rated and 1950 rated. So which is it?
>>
>>551273904
How many times do I have to beat you? What about the other day when you accepted my challenge and you lost? You are the ultimate glorified patzer.
>>
>>551273904
Why not both?
>>
>>551273904
I don’t know where you’re getting confused zoombam but all 3 of the games you posted are bongcloud, go check.
Is this the cope you’re going with?
>>
>>551274203
What is your point? I lose to a lot of people, I'm not a pro chess player, nowadays I'm not even a casual chess player, I'm a wagie.
Do you think people don't like you because you beat them at chess? Beary was also beating everyone and everyone likes him.
People don't like you because you're insufferable in pretty much everything you do.
Even if you're not cheating, which again is a big if, the reason why you're kicked from the team is because literally no one likes you and every time you start playing in the tournaments people complain.
>>
>>551274953
I told you before, you want to act like a bitch I’ll treat you like one. This has nothing to do with Beary. This is a fight between you and me.
>>
>>551274953
I tried to make peace with you many times, I don’t owe you any kindness. When I beat you over and over you deserve to get laughed at. Then you say oh you just of cheated, bro you are such a loser.

Zoombitch already conceded, he can’t even post a suspicious game. He’s just personally seething at catmixer for no reason. It’s not a debate about whether catmixer should be ostracized anymore, it’s just public information that zoombitch is against him for personal asshurt.

What food would you want in the break room if you were to play in a world championship? I'm very souppilled so I'd appreciate some soup. Imagine your opponent is sweating in front of the camera and racking his brains about the position while you're eating soup. Peak ludo.

You go for lowblows like that then wonder why no one likes you

Doesn't seem like I"m convincing anyone here, this is just a testament to how mindbroken /chess/ is by catmixer though. It seems every decision is made with mixer considered first, that reality itself is conceptualized in terms of mixer. "What will mixer think about this?" "What if mixer will get one over me?" "What if catmixer did this or that and made a fool out of me?" It's just not healthy to be this paranoid about someone, so much so that even the mention of the guy makes you irrationally scared of whoever uttered his name. You can think I'm mixer, I'm not, but if you want a team then being this unwelcoming is not going to help anything, forcing people to go through hoops just to avoid getting labeled as "mixer" and never being able to escape the label lest they make a new account and just be labeled as him again.

Nigga I'm not fucking catmixer. Holy shit you're mindbroken. It's hilarious because you claim not to have anything against the guy but you're this paranoid about him. There is no evidence whatsoever that I am catmixer, the only ""evidence"" is that I made a joke about him, which literally anyone can do considering this general is so obsessed with him, and that it's pretty much impossible to prove you're not mixer. What do I need to do, play a game against him? Will that prove I'm not him, or will you say that I'm playing against myself? How about 1/2+0 bullet, will that be enough?

>>
>>551325394
I'll walk you through it then. I faked that screenshot, yes? Now, if I was able to do that, on an account we KNOW is not a part of the team, could the person I replied to have also faked their screenshot? Yes! Not to mention, it is quite possible they got into the team WHILE being catmixer. And thirdly, they have not even proven the account that is in those teams is theirs!

The greater picture is this: If I show that even someone who is ostensibly not catmixer cannot prove they are not catmixer, then I show that the "guilty until proven innocent" way of thinking that is prevalent in this general is flawed! Of course, that will not make the team leaders any more reasonable, and I probably won't be able to play in the team, but perhaps it could be enlightening for captcha failers like yourself.

What have I done that shows I'm fucked in the head? Nothing. But the people in this general are so retarded that they jump to the craziest of conclusions with the least of evidence. You know, yesterday, or the day before, I was actually accused of being doggydivider? There was no evidence towards that either, but because we're guilty until proven innocent here, I am somehow both catmixer and the guy who is obsessed with him. And even if I prove I'm the guy who was being accused of being doggydivider, I'll just be called a schizo who samefags as someone who hates him. It's completely useless, because you can't debate or reason someone out of a belief they weren't debated or reasoned into in the first place.

Merry catmas guys sorry the thread is so derailed. Wish I could have handled this privately with zoombam. I tried multiple times but apparently he’s unhinged and beyond reason. I had no choice but to humiliate him in front of everyone. He chose this outcome, not me.
I’m sincere about retiring from the general in a couple days. Hopefully zoombam will stop lashing out at everyone just in case it’s me, like he’s doing by aborting anon challenges.

he probably thought caro-kann is the best strategy ever. but that damn d5 pawn turned out to be the one cockblocking himself from saving the game.
>>
>>551352661
I'm pretty sure it's Francisco Vallejo Pons. I was looking into this maybe earlier in the year, and you'll see comments on YouTube or reddit where a lot of other names are thrown around, but I think it's him.

If you compare videos of Francisco and Rey playing, they have a similar build and similar mannerisms, like the way they move the pieces and hit the clock, or sit with their hands clasped with the left thumb on top.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VVs-sHFC6MQ
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YkXcZB4Kp_Q
>>
>>551364701
there's nothing wrong with the d5 pawn or his caro-kann, you're already entirely game lost as soon as you castle and he gets your free h-pawn, all he has to do is simply remove the bishop back to Bd3 and it's +2.00 white.

I don't know why shitters at 400 ELO take the free pawn without knowing for the 10,000th time that the pawn pushing traps it.
>>
>>551367336
this has been my theory since he started getting popular on youtube. pons was often rejected as a possibility just for being stronger than people thought enigma was. but you're right about the posture and body language.
>>
>>551352661
is it really that important to figure out who he is
>>
>>551367336
Wow. The way he hits the clock really is... suspiciously similar. Nice spot anon. I think it genuinely could be Francisco.

No, obviously not. I'm just curious. It's not that deep.

Is there a book or series of books that looks at the games and lives of multiple strong chess players of the past? I know there's "My Great Predecessors" but I think that just covers world champions. It would be cool to also get some insights into the games and personalities of other influential chess players who never became champions like Morphy, Chigorin, Tarrasch, Marshall, etc.

As a general rule of thumb, sure, but it could also be the case that the piece you're trading off was stronger sticking around than the doubled pawn weakness you gave your opponent. And sometimes a doubled pawn can be a strength too.

>>551405528
I screwed up once by trading and leaving my opponent doubled pawns, but the semi-open file I left him allowed him to move his pieces out and destroy me.

You have to remember chess is a game that can be decided by one move, at any point in the game. There is no moral victory, only real victory. All that outplaying your opponent gets you is a better chance of winning, but the game isn’t over. Always be vigilant. All this would seem to go without saying but one of the reasons you’re blundering is because subconsciously you just assume the universe will reward you for being such a good little chess player. You have to consciously remind yourself of all the above and make an effort to maintain your advantage.
>>
>>551411367
This is why chess is an inferior game to something like Risk. If I accumulate an advantage I shouldn’t be able to be undone in one turn

You just traded everything, why do you want to win?
Equal material queen endgames are a horror to play and ironically the side 'pressing' is in more danger of losing since it's so easy to get carried away.
>>
>>551438148
We did just trade everything but I don't know what else better there was to do. My main concern was controlling d5 but alongside that just comes a lot of trades on d5. Not being able to capture on d5 with a piece at the end probably didn't help so perhaps Qd3 truly was the positional mistake like the engine noted.

here's a variant I'm fond of. Chess from 1000 years ago. No queen, instead the advisor is a bishop that moves 1 diagonal only. The elephant is the shittiest chess piece ever, it jumps diagonally 2 - which means it can only ever be in 8 spaces of the 64 on the board (and the elephant is so SAD that he's begging me to kill him for a pawn in this game multiple times and I don't because a pawn is more valuable than a fucking elephant)

My opening is from a history book from world war I era.
>>
>>551481720
Good post. Thanks for sharing. I’m so bad at variants.
>>
>>551482214
the first 10-20 games of each variant you shouldn't expect to be any good at all, they're just for poking it with a stick and figuring out how the variant rules work
Of course, it helps to know someone who plays the variant, they can short-circuit you the secrets so you don't have to figure them out for yourself
(tips like in duck p=1, bishop=2.5, knight/rook=5, q=9)
or in chaturanga ancient chess p=1, elephant=1.5, advisor=2, knight=5, rook = 8-ish)
>>
>>551482505
People like you are just way too good lol
>>
>>551482713
I'm good in many sets of rules and bad in many sets of rules (I can't stand bughouse/crazyhouse). The big secret is chess isn't about IQ. If it was, since I'm 2621 in a variant it'd mean I must have a grandmaster intelligence, but I'm not anywhere close because I haven't memorized the 10,000 computer opening lines in regular chess. I've seen grandmasters hikaru, alireza firouzja and many others trying to play variants and absolutely get destroyed - and I've seen IM like Eric Rosen who are very skilled (yet gets destroyed by Hikaru's memorized prep in a regular chess match)

It's just a meme tradition to pretend chess=IQ, and not other games like piloting a magic the gathering deck or a warhammer40,000 army or making builds/strats in league of legends.

I prefer variants because they're just as skill-based, they simply don't require 150 years of memorized lines which a super-computer will tell you are each +0.3 or -0.17 or +0.08, and there's a lower ratio of engine cheaters in variants (I run into a few india/china stockfish users on variant but it's 1 per say 300 games instead of 1 per 5 games in regular queue)

I get the feeling setup isn't bad for board visualization ability. Always seems to come down to the guy who can instantly calculate how many attackers/defenders are hitting each pawn/piece and the ability to keep pieces always coordinated with others.
>>
>>551483835
Stop coping. You don't need to memorize all that. You just suck. Grandmasters can play any random opening they don't know and beat FMs and IMs easily. You are nothing.
>>
>>551485153
Hey let’s try and show each other some respect.

I respect you/him are a person, but this statement

is completely delusional. You are worse because you don't know openings? Ok, then you should be a GM at chess960 right?
>>
>>551485153
one day you might grow up enough to pay attention to when a grandmaster narrates a game, practically every move if they're honest is "I'm supposed to play this, I'm supposed to play this next, these moves were still in my prep, I know if he plays that I'm supposed to react by playing this, if I get a chance I know I'm supposed to play this, I think this was the right move I'm supposed to do", rarely they'll come to a position they're like "this really surprised me I had no idea what to do", usually they'll try to sit for 10-20 minutes and figure out how to transpose back into the regular games they've memorized for thousands of hours (whether it's to accept a trade or run away and go back to something looking normal)

In humans there's two kinds of intelligence recognized. There's "fluid intelligence" and "crystal intelligence" Hikaru's is entirely crystal intelligence, he's got a stockpile of 100,000 matches of chess played so he doesn't actually have to do any new thinking at all for 90% of the match (and when he does have to think for himself, that's when he instantly loses to vidit and doesn't get to play Ding/Gukesh)

Someone like Eric Rosen doesn't have the same deep 100,000 match stockpile hikaru has, his crystal intelligence on the subject of chess is lower, but from what I've seen his fluid intelligence is higher. Hence Eric Rosen being able to be strong at chess but also strong at variants or Scrabble or other games - while hikaru would lose to Eric at scrabble or duck or crossword puzzles or geoguessr or Risk.

when you watch classical at live time control it really stands out. The moment they can't rely on just memorization suddenly they need 1800-3000 seconds before they make a move.

If you only watch the summaries where they flip through each move in 5 seconds on youtube then you'll think the GM was actually somehow good at thinking on the fly and came up with a good response.

ah, the ancient game of shatranj, precursor to chess played in Persia and medieval Europe. Murray's "History of Chess" documents it thoroughly with lots of opening theory and hundreds of problems. Kinda slow to start, but has its charms. There are some really beautiful puzzles, such as "Al-Suli's Diamond", an endgame puzzle not fully proven correct until GM Averbakh took a whack at it a thousand years after it was composed.

I also recommend Thai Makruk, a close relative.

Yeah. I’m 36. I used to play off and on when I was 10-11. Then very sporadically throughout my life. Always loved the game. I picked it back up seriously as a 35 year old. I got to 1200 ELO .cum rapid but it’s starting to get to the point where I have to seriously start to study. I got a physical board with weighted pieces and reading books + doing all the Chessable courses that are posted on the bilibili app (just search “Chessable” and there’s tons of the paid courses free there).

My end goal is 1800 because everything beyond that I know I will have to dedicate even more time to it. I might join my local club. I’m married and have 6 children so in order to get above 1800 I’d have to start abandoning my family.
>>
>>551427302
This dumb ass has no clue what he’s talking about. There is absolutely fog of war. As an 1800 when I review GM games I can literally start feeling my mind beginning to bend and physical structures feel like they are blocking parts of my brain form functioning.

>no technology tree

Nigga obviously never promoted a passed pawn. It’s the most exhilarating form of a tech tree.

>no random map or spawn position

Faggot never played Fischer random

>only 2 players

Faggot never played bug house. Besides, a game like this is best between only 2 people anyhow. That’s what makes it so great.

There you go. I debunked it while sitting on the toilet.

1800 chess.com rapid isn't very strong, you can go beyond without going full autismo. The big barrier is 1800 fide imo. I haven't looked up actual stats but from what I've seen irl, most club players get hardstuck around there.

What should they do to overcome it?

>>551500489
I know abstinence is a meme around here but it really helped me take my game to the next level.
>>
>>551500489
I don't think that's the right question. The reason they get hardstuck there is simply that improvement gets progressively harder as your elo goes up, and the ~1700-1900 fide range is where people often check out and just enjoy playing.
You gotta understand that the average person you'll meet in a chess club is a middle aged guy who isn't actively trying to improve anymore.

Yep. And "A History of Chess" by Murray is so old it predates copyright law, so it's not even stealing to just download the entire book. I found it quite an enjoyable read.

The only part that is unfortunate is that it's pre-modern on notation.
Instead of E4 for example it may say Kp2 (King's Pawn up-2 spaces). Instead of B3, that'd be Qkp1 (queens-knight-pawn-1)
It gets even more tricky to decipher when the board is flipped and black makes the first move (in old chess, black was actually the color that went first and had the advantage over white).
You might imagine that isn't important... but if the white queen is left of the king, but you flip the board and start as black, the queen is on the right side of the king. So the queen's gambit would not be D4, it'd be E4 square instead (from black's point of view) while called Qp2 (queen's pawn 2)

This was awkward as it means many diagrams in the book are mirrored horizontally since chesscom has white move first and queen on left side.
It's unfortunate because there are thousands of fun puzzles in the book.
. I'm almost tempted to go through and just make my own edition of the book with all diagrams mirrored and color-corrected and notation changed to actual chess notation...

The history and basic info about all the chess family games doesn't require any extra work though.
>>
>>551503129
Old notation was abysmal. For me that'd be a deal breaker.
>>
>>551503129
this part of an ancient poem explaining chess I find funny
"The pawns commence the battle; they go straight forward, cannot return backward, and they take in a diagonal direction. The Bald-head moves diagonally to the third square ; he lies in ambush like a thief. The Knight takes the Knight, the Pawn the Pawn, and the Rook the Rook, but the Bald-heads have a compact never to harm one another ; nor can one Queen interfere with another since they are allotted to the Kings as a guard. The Queen rules diagonally two squares diagonally in every direction."

I guess even then they recognized the dastardly nature of the cowardly opposite colors bishop endgame. (And ancient queen in that dude's country had the shitty elephant move hopping 2 diagonally which meant they were never on the same color)
>>
>>551506385
chess history is even more entertaining than our shitposting.
"How many thousands of souls were sent to Underworld on the occasion of this game, where Reginaldus, son of Eymundus, has killed a noble knight with one of chess, with whom was playing in calculis in the palace of Charlemagne."

I've tried Pirc, Czech Pirc, Old Indian (hard to find good info on that one) and King's Indian as a panacea, but I'm too much of an idiot to play any of them well except when my opponent overlooks simple traps in the Czech Pirc. I see Hippo suggested as an all-rounder but haven't tried it myself. Chess Giant on YouTube (NM Solomon Ruddell) has a bunch of videos about it. I've basically switched to just playing QGD and some of its transpositions vs 1.d4 lately, with middling success. I've also seen some some suggest the Philidor as a response to both e4 and d4.

>>
>>551551436
To add on to this, you can do any double fianchetto, cow/hippo/hedgehog.

You can always play 1... c6 against everything and hope they play 2.e4. Then you'll get a Caro Kann, which you'll also always get against 1.e4, but you would have to learned something else against 2.c4 and etc

The Scandinavian also works if you just want to kill whatever white plays in e4, but then you need something else for d4 and there isn't really an equivalent
>>
>>551551845
My theories are that they are either low IQ and just mentally incapable of progressing, or they just do absolutely 0 reflection on their moves.

I know when I was triple digit elo, I never review my games, but I at least reflected on my mistakes, like I knew I lost because I gave away a queen and tried not to do it again.

I'm not really sure though how you can play 10,000 games tho without realizing every game is decided by just giving away pieces for free and not improve.

I think it might be this. I reviewed some of the games on his account, and most of them seem to be decided by huge one move blunders on either side. Even looking at the moves he makes, they don't seem very well thought out. It’s mostly simple threats with clear ideas that are easy to refute in a single move, even for a beginner. No plans, nothing. Just pure hope chess.

Online chess is completely pointless now. Just played two cheats back to back, out of three games I had time for. The first has an active bullet rating of 900, has won 14 out of his last 15 games with his only loss being 75 moves and on time, and begins every single game getting blown out before winning anyway. Both sadly on chess.com. They haven't been responding to reports ever since they reduced staff and installed that completely nonfunctional "AI chat bot" instead of human support. This is why people just play lichess anon. Not because there won't be cheats there, because hilariously there are still just as many, but at least it isn't rated. But really it's just over. Your best bet is just downloading Komodo and playing against it on its Human setting, and otherwise playing OTB.
>>
>>551586801
You guys need to up your game, you guys do know serious players don't rely on chess websites right? Download En Croissant
>>
>>551596268
To be desu I just haven't had this experience so I don't care. I play games and feel good when I do so, and win some and lose some. I don't ever feel like my opponent is cheating really, maybe some few times but definitely not enough to become a problem, even though my opponents have cheated surely I just don't care or really think about it. In fact I played a game a year ago where my opponent "outplayed" me in a rook endgame and I lost, and later I looked at the game and he'd been banned for cheating. I still enjoyed the game regardless, and I still made the mistake that meant I lost, perhaps he was cheating that game, I don't know, but it doesn't really help me at all to believe he was.
>>
>>551596484
Lichess is good and I like it. I don’t want to use boomer software.
>>
>>551596268
The lower rated players should be bad enough at chess that they should easily be caught. It's disconcerting that they can't even catch blatant cheaters. This means a smart 2000+ player has zero chances of being caught
>>
>>551596706
It's not boomer like chessbase, it's newer and top notch. You can download all the engines on it locally, install/upload databases of games, save annotations etc. It does everything lichess does but better and on your own computer.
>>
>>551596951
I might have to look into it then, my friend.
>>
>>551596794
Yeah it's completely blatant. If I had a chess site people with massive discrepancies between ratings would be auto-banned honestly. Combined with the suspicious games themselves there's no reason he should still have an account. Unfortunately he's had it since 2021.
>>
>>551597276
>If I had a chess site people with massive discrepancies between ratings would be auto-banned honestly.
What do you mean by this? Like bullet vs blitz vs rapid, or their performance vs their elo, or what? Or do you mean how they perform in each game?
>>
>>551597245
You should, it's incredible. Picrel is one batch of games I recently downloaded. It's also convenient to just download PGNs from chessgames or lichess. And you can annotate and organize them into collections if you want.
One of my favorite things to do lately is make the engines play each other in like 3+2. Stockshit has been getting mogged by Komodo lately.
>>551597459
Like if you're over a thousand elo stronger than your active bullet in slower time controls like blitz or rapid. This doesn't happen. People can be a few hundred points worse depending on the TC, never a completely different player.

I used to use the rule of 400 pts difference between rapid and blitz. If it's that or more, abort. And even that is probably too liberal, should be more like 300.
I think I could see a guy in the 2400s being a 2100 blitz especially if he plays an increment time control because that's a slightly different pool.
>>
>>551596951
it says you can train puzzles with any png and such but it doesn't let me and only gives me the lichess puzzles... like if I config all the stuff to "train puzzles" it only gives me one with the fucking answer attached to it, like what's the point.
>>
>>551598518
Idk I've never messed with that, I go to chesstempo for puzzles. I just use it for study and game collection and occassionally playing engines.
>>
>>551598327
This no longer means anything, you can just as easily cheat in bullet and blitz as you can in rapid.
In fact in bullet you can cheat easier as it's the slop of chess and no one checks their games and as such there are less chances of being caught
>>
I only cheat on lichess. Dont like it? Write a formal peer reviewed essay to the mods laying out your case (they dont care)

I think it's a good rule of thumb because just because it's possible to cheat in bullet and blitz doesn't mean everyone will. Lordbentham himself doesn't seem to. And I would rather abort against a bunch of definite cheaters than play them with the reasoning that 'I can't avoid them all so why bother'.
>>
>>551598817
Just as easily isn't true, you need to download an extension, which needs a little technological savvy. A lot of the subhuman blitz and rapid cheaters just have an analysis board up on their phone.

>which needs a little technological savvy
oh come on, you just need to search it in the store and click install. The harder part to cheating in the modern age is knowing how much to cheat and how to make it look like you're not(stopping to "think", making blunders, losing a set number of games on purpose, etc). This is of course harder with bullet, but I assume a strong player(lets say at or above 2100 lichess) can easily cheat his way 100-300 points higher than his elo without getting caught. Regardless of time control

When you download Komodo (you need a GUI like En Croissant) it comes with a bunch of customizable options, one of them is to make it play like a human, as well as the "Skill" level you see in this pic, and many other things. analyze the games after. It's a stress free way to play a game without worrying about cheats, especially for longer time controls.
And I disagree that there's nothing to learn from engines. I've taken a lot of notes cranking up the engines to max strength and watching how they play each other in openings/middlegames.
The new captcha makes this site unusable btw, wtf is this?

You know, funny enough, a big reason why I got so into chess was because they started importing so many of these people into our country. A couple years ago, seeing one of them here was like finding a pokemon in the wild, and now it's a 3:1 native to migrant ratio whenever I go downtown, and it's only getting worse as time goes on. Remember, this is a European country that's still supposedly over 98% white (it's not, they're clearly lying about the demographics). I wake up multiple times per week in the middle of the night and hear either Arabic or Indian being spoken outside my window. All of it became so demoralizing over time I just kinda stopped going out to clubs, bars, etc. and replaced that time with playing chess instead. Great for my elo, not so much for my homeland.

That's not how it works. Missing one move one time means nothing. It doesn't mean he "can't see the move". It means he didn't catch the move when editing the book. Kramnik has missed mate in 1 before, so is he a 900 elo player because he "can't see" mate in 1?

Magnus gets away with anything, I bet the tournament wont even say anything, and his fanboys will glaze him. Sets a bad example to kids who will think its ok and cool to assault cameramen because they had a hissy fit after losing a childrens board game. Society got just a little bit worse because Magnus couldn't keep his hands to himself and not assault an employee doing their job, because he is a manchild who plays a literal child's game for a living (LMAO get a real job you autist).

>They tend to play really aggressive gambits/retarded sacs and be annoying in that way, like they don’t fully respect the game as an intellectual pursuit, but they don’t cheat.
They play the park banter and misdirection variant, usually for money. It's not so much about calculation as it is about bedazzling your opponent with your non-stop jive talk and jazz hands so he blunders a simple tactic.

I remember your jazz hands post from a few years ago.

i forgot all about that. my brain must think it's the best way to describe the urban park players' dramatic piece movements. in any case they play like this online regardless of the absence of in-person banter because they don't know any other way to play the game.

300 points is pretty good. Any improvement in chess at all is better than most can do.

I don’t even really register blunders consciously anymore, but my pattern recognition is such that I’ll often sidestep landmines without even realizing it until post-game analysis. In analysis I’ll be like “oh wait couldn’t I have played such and such?” and then turn on the engine and see it very obviously blunders a piece. I’m so out of it and rusty that I didn’t “see” it, but I’m at a level now where I still instinctively avoid it and my somnambulant baseline is on par with my opponent’s active calculation. They don’t know that if I ever chose to lock in it wouldn’t even be competitive.

there is certainly an instinct where the conscious thought process consists solely of 'there's probably tactics if i move this there so...'

The caro kann is a nice opening. Very transpositional and solid. Ideal for the adult improver.
