Is this true, buddies?
I replayed Ace Combat 7 just now. I wish the part of the campaign when the satellites are down and your strike group is basically just trying to survive the chaos was a bit longer. A couple of more missions would have been nice. It is such a cool concept. The campaign somehow manages to have some crazy detail while also feeling rushed or patched together last minute. Was a fun time either way.

I wish the first AC8 teaser was a bit more "teasery" sorta like this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uTPHZyJPn8A before going more in on the story.
>>551337127The postwar settlement had been in place for six months by the time of the Avalon mission.
>>551337736Relative to when their trailers dropped, AC8's further along in development than 7 was. I think they went over this in one of the concerts but they hadn't even finalized who was in the suit making the jump when they created the visual.
>>551338186I mean, even without that detail the scene makes for a great tease. You got some planes, drones, characters, locations and a voice that slowly turns ai, while the Grunder cameo and OSEA insignia would let people tie things together that it's AC.Stuff like this offers so much to pique interest compared to the random short dogfight. Not that the full trailers are bad, just that 7 had such a big ass potential for a teaser and they kinda fumbled it(most likely didn't have time to put it togetehr by then).
>>551334723it was an insane super mirv so it was probably just going to target at least all of osea, but the world with no boundaries were crazy and probably wanted it to do more

>>551358343I see, Assault Horizon is a Christmas game, I should've known.
>>551356994I always thought the missions when you get to Russia were fun enough to keep the game enjoyable, keeping DFM to a minimum. Launch and Naval Warfare are the standouts.
>>551358503It's closer to a Su-30/35/37X or whatever that futuristic fan modof that series is.
We got a new contact on radar its moving at incredible speed. Requesting launch of TSR-2 for intercept and ID target>I don't care if the pilots are working at their mom's Chinese restaurant tonight>Get them in the air now
>>551339465The 7 trailers were essentially a sham anyway. Gave people the wrong idea of the game even was going to be.I still remember most discussions and memes made about the game was from that "Burn Osea to the ground!" line and that was a complete non sequitur in the game itself.8 so far seems pretty straight forward about what it going to be. The only thing up in the air is the how/if they are tying it to Elecstrosphere.
>>551358560They're having damn raves down in the Caucus regions!
>>551360841Wingspan-to-body ratio is giving shades of G9 Eclipse
>>551360728>The only thing up in the air is the how/if they are tying it to Elecstrosphere.I think its kind of non-negotiable that PA is attempting to tie 3 into the more contemporary PS2+ timeline. Its going to be interesting to see the degree of retconning, though (retcons are kind of unavoidable). FWIW, I think the basic outline of "corps gain a kind of political influence and cachet that was formerly reserved for nation-states due to the latter being unable to properly manage the aftereffects of Ulysses (all those wars!) on the Usean continent".
Is this thing still working? Finally have some free time to talk about the trailer.>focus on carrier operationsVery nice. I actually hope most missions take place at sea. That means mostly air to air missions where you occasionally bag an enemy ship. The focus on clouds (this time fr fr) could mean that there is environment variety mission to mission even in the middle of the sea.>Ghost of Kweef stuffAnd this is where I start to doubt. Ok, Ghost of Kyiv was made to boost morale in the opening days of Ukraine. Essentially copaganda spread on social media. In the game, the Ghost is actually real. It's (You). Ok, but what else can you even say at that point? There isn't much more to it, I think.>Katabuchi as the returning writerAnd it's over. Does anyone really trust the man to have anything worthwhile to say about social media? Someone who is probably a literal boomer who still remembers the post war period? Someone who, at least judging by his work on 5 and 7, doesn't have any nuance to his writing? The gameplay better be 6-tier or above, because the story doesn't seem like it's gonna be it.
>>551363473>it isOk, this one?>no Chinese or Korean planes because muh license issuesDisappointing but expected. Worried about the implications for the roster. I don't want your only options for the endgame to be the F-22 or Su-57 yet again, almost 10 years removed from Lighthouse.I don't think any of the new IRL stuff is gonna be in. J-20 or the Chinese 6th Gens are out. Su-75 is likely out, unless PA is satisfied looking at the prop Russia has lying around. Tempest is out because it's still far off. NGAD/FA-XX is out because I don't think there will be anything we can physically look at by the time the game ships. Shame, because all this new stuff would fit right in as we move closer to 3. Mods it is then, I suppose.I've seen people say they can add older planes to fill out the roster with new entries. I wouldn't mind the idea if the game didn't take place in 2029. There should be new planes, not old ones. Don't tell me Strangereal is regressing technologically too. They better include the planes from X and the GR planes from 3 to make up for it. In fact, I wouldn't mind if half the roster were OCs to showcase the advance of technology.Although a Tornado decked out with laser weaponry would be pretty sick. Which should be even more prevalent in 8, naturally.
>>551363473Joker Squadron is a literal social media propaganda squadron that only gets piss easy missions. The "Ghost" is a fraud, at least until (You) take his place after he fucking dies.
>>551363840
>>551363840>>551364045Good stuff
>>551363689I think they will just bring back more fictional planes to cover the high end part of the plane tree, yeah. It would be very very boring if the only high tier planes were the F-22/YF-23/F-35/Su-57 AGAIN. My current cope over no chink/gookplanes is that they're doing this to leave a conciliatory opening if the political situation changes, because if they really wanted to they could just throw the planes in and avoid mentioning the actual manufacturer a la Sukhoi/MiG.
CAN YOU TAKE IT ALL AWAYYYYY
>>551365505I figure that unlike Russia China expects plane license fee's Besides best way is leave them for now so when you have a war between two nations in Versa you could work them in much easier
>>551363473You probably should’ve taken more time to think about the trailer before posting newguy.
>>551365687I will heil Katabuchi over this any day of the week. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iWRdMX1VaZA
>>551363473Did you miss the part where they straight up tell you that Wings is a fraud (at the time)? And the end trailer slogan is towards the player to go beyond the propaganda? Also, 7 story is plenty servicable when compared to AC stories as a whole, so idk what you are trying to imply. 5 was more focused on wingmen and "myths" instead of the overall narrative so i can get what you mean there. Also, if they aren't being rushed and shoestringed like they were with 7, i'm sure the story will be good enough. PA are too afraid of true danger scenarios (like the end of PW, in fact, 3 was the closest to "shit's really fucked yo" ending scenarios), so can't really expect it to be anything beyond the standard zero-hero story where we lead a winnig charge with an oocasional twist.>>551365935It's likely to do with homeland propaganda reasons too. 1000 folded Maoluminium and nationalism guided missiles etc.
>>551366217I need more Lord Steve Bloom the Inheritor in my games.
>>551366320Oh yes current political issues would mean a JP company paying the CCP in cash for plane rights wouldn't sit well at home especially with the government. Its a bad ideaBut hey that just means a much better chance for KF-21 and even the Truk plane to get in.
>>551366320>PA are too afraid of true danger scenarios (like the end of PW, in fact, 3 was the closest to "shit's really fucked yo" ending scenarios)PW was a standalone game so they had no issue fucking their own setting, and 3 is a distant future sequel so same thing there. PA/BNA isn't going to go that far because it would cause obvious issues writing later games.

Are they going to force the old man out of retirementhttps://x.com/AceCombatGames/status/2003873304512245842
>>551367638I mean, SOTOA can get nuked, hence the corps take over and UPEO put in place. But we know nukes won't happen, or anything for the mateer because nothing ever happens. Also, the endings to 3 (simulations) aren't some doomsday scenarios per se, but all of them have some tangible damage being done to the place. The act of Megafloat sinking or Geofront collapse are massive events, yet it's not some end of the world tier scenario, but a massive tragedy. Zero had bombing civilians and the 7 nukes as the most radical things that ever happened since 3 (at least from the top of my head).
>>551368806Slop? really?
>>551368910It doesn't matter what happens with Sota they aren't in USEA and as far as we know the megacorps will only control that continent not the entire world.
>>551365505>if the political situation changesI don't think the recent spat factored into it at all. I imagine dealings with the license holders are done very early on in the planning stages. PA probably tinkers with plane models all throughout development. The Japanese PM kicked the hornet's nest only back in November or so. That's way too recent to affect any changes. So Shenyang/Chengdu stuff is off the table permanently.
>>551371018>I don't think the recent spat factored into it at all. I imagine dealings with the license holders are done very early on in the planning stages. PA probably tinkers with plane models all throughout development. The DLC aircraft sets for 7 didnt take very long to drop after initial release, though. >>551315148Remember the Starblazer!
>>551361195Incredible, I'm speechless... They somehow managed to suck out the fun out of the last mission by making it a forced dogfight mode section. You hit the button and you're on the rails 3-4 times in order to even get through/advance the fight. Not to mention the fight itself was equally as unfun as Sulejmani from Joint Assault, the most acrobatic plane I've seen in my life, not to speak of those amazing 360 spin, near perfect homing missiles that you inevitably have to eat 2 or 3 at a time once he sends them out. The game really wasn't as horrible as I was being told, if anything it was just a very bog standard CoD story, with "fairly" standard Ace Combat flying, minus the main gimmick of course. But there really was no fun to be had towards the end, as enjoyable as some missions were, it really just drained any ounce of enthusiasm I might have had going into it, Music had some good songs but I couldn't remember any of them by the end out of how sour I was
>>551378150kono basically already nixed strategic bombers and helicopters as playable aircraft, closest we'll get are multicrew strike aircraft
>>551356994They did a really good job of illustrating how dire the situation is in this scene. They don't even have time to stow their fuel lines before reversing out of there, there's bombs falling everywhere, a jet goes down right over your head, when you taxi out a group of tanks and AA vehicles hold your flank...
>>551379754Yea, all the Caucus missions I really enjoyed, helping them land, liberating the fort/town, and the naval bombing to get the prime minister from the yacht were pretty fun. Heck I really loved the Moscow helicopter mission as well
>>551379584ACAH isn't that bad when you're a fan of the series and have plenty of games to play. Now imagine it's 2011, AC6 is stuck in Xbox Jail, Zero was 5 years ago, and ACAH is all you have. It'll be 8 long years until AC7 and all you'll get in that time is Infinity, a Freemium game that makes you wait for or buy fuel(with real money) to actually pay it.Like this is what the Ace Combat series is now, CoD-inspired slop with a bad central gimmick and terrible ending, even if some of the missions in the middle are fun. That's all you'll get for nearly a decade. And this is why the fanbase hates the game so much.
And then there was one... I can finally catch up and play Ace Combat 7 after this one.

>>551405469It was cute watching his reaction to AC8 at TGA. Personally I'm enjoying the weird sidearc where he's learning more about Vtubers, wild that his first "real" collab with the sphere (apart from the two writers/producers who introduced him to some of the bigger works) is with Ironmouse of all people because she wanted to be an Opera singer at one point. I wonder who in general he'll get to play multiplayer with him since AC8's steam page has a co-op multiplayer tag.
>>551405469When his viewers told him to react to Zero, I genuinely think he's unprepared for a flamenco with latin lyrics
Introductory plot was revealed to me in a dream just now.Wing of theve is something akin to the blue angels but the gimmick is hes like the greatest war pilot of all time (ace of aces). Then the the enemy attacks when you're doing the ridealong we see in the trailer. There is no going back, its full on war, you have had some flight training, armed forces are refusing to admit wings died because it would kill morale. Its all a sham, a marketing ployBut ur gonna be a true hero
>>551405469I keep forgetting the guy who made music for these games went onto making music for the Anime Horse Girl Racing Game
>>551409524for me it's one of the major Metal Gear composers (Akihiro Honda) being the guy who made Umapyoi Densetsu
>>551410012And apparently he did so while drunk off his tits, in his underwear.
>>551379584>forced dogfight mode>main gimmickSee, that's the thing. Much like Mihaly and unlike every other game in the series, it doesn't matter how gud you get. You have to wait until the old man stops talking or you have to do an on-rail bit where your target is invincible for 30 seconds because it has to take you on a stroll through a stadium or something. Taking away player agency like that is plain bad design. Just make it a cutscene and be done with it.
>>551410012>Told to make a denpa song (catchy electronic thing, might be wrong)>Was told that his first attempt isn't good enough>Get drunk and stripped down to underwear, writing the music>Turn sober and see what he has written>complete the songMan I wish I can do this just as an excuse to get drunk on the job

>>551415439The + version is compatible with Amiibos (remember those?) because it was a re-release for the New 3DS. IIRC, that's how you're supposed to unlock these planes.
>>551416620There was a giant question mark block from Mario in like the second or third mission and shooting it down gave it to me
>>551381138I've also finally got around to playing this game recently after installing it on my ancient 3DS, though I haven't finished it.It's a nice novelty to have an AC game on a system as compact as the old 3DS, although I feel that it very visibly chugs hard at points. The maneuvers system reminds me of Sky Crawlers: Innocent Aces for the Wii (PA made that one too), and if that game's any indication then the end game is gonna be a whole lot of waiting and mashing Y.
>>551417481There's a achievemnet for a "no maneuvers clears" so it should be possible.Basically they made ACAH in AC2s story, but nonintrusive and with much better general enemy ai.
>>551370330Yea the Anea nations look to be coming back pretty decently and well the Oseans might still have a grudge against GR considering the entire Alicorn thing and almost getting Oured nuked with GR helping run interference for not only the Alicorn escaping but the nuke shells getting loaded within.>>551417481The that system is a crutch for new players as AC:AHL's primary determination of S rank is time and that thing takes a good chunk of it for the cutscene.Using it tends to screw you out of S-Ranks.
I didn't think I'd finish it all today, but it was a much more shorter game compared to I would say Joint Assault. The maneuvers were ok, still kind of on the rails, but not as egregious as Assault Horizons. Certainly an interesting entry for the mobile collection, I definitely enjoyed what little of it there was, but not much more than I would say, Skies of Deception from the PSP.

The final AC5 tunnel sequence is the most kino moment in the series. I basedfaced so hard when you and Bartlett fly past each other and then you have to do the insane high-speed dodging while Hamilton is chasing you.
>>551432568I love the clouds, and the effects of flying through them are super cool as well
think it would be very cool if 8 did the AC5 thing of modelling every plane with external hardpoints drop pods so you can jettison them AC7 TGM style instead of seeing them automatically fall away like in 5
>>551400927It's carried hard by the second half, everything from The Journey Home on is ludokino
>>551433875i've seen a theory based on AC8's cover image where the cover plane has droptanks that if you choose to not equip a second SPW (or I guess equip two of the same for extra ammo maybe?) then the empty hardpoints have droptanks instead.so who knows, i think it'd be a waste to not bring the mechanic over after AC7 introduced it as a DLC plane gimmick

If there's any game that could do for a remake it's Ace Combat 1. If they tried, they could make it one of the most kino remakes every. The template is great and even in it's simplicity is incredibly soulful and kino. If they further fleshed that out with it's image in tact it could easily be one of the best games ever. Just this music alone could be a basis for what it looks like https://youtu.be/La0-8rw9dzYThis track conjures images in my mind just with the sound. A number of remasters drift from the spirit of the original, and maybe they have to sometimes, but there are some cases where there's enough of a vision there that it's clear enough to still be persued without jeopardizing the spirit and ethos. Maybe Air Combat could be an example of that. https://youtu.be/La0-8rw9dzYNot that anyone cares.

I replayed Ace Combat 7 several months ago and I still don't know why the fuck Nagase gets an appearance right at the end of the game. Was anything about her or her trip to space actually hinted at anywhere else during the campaign and I just keep missing it?
>>551504350Something about a space mission is mentioned in Rescue when the AWACS is talking about how great Harling is, but that's it.
>>551504350In rescue some Gargoyle Squadron pilots mention that they won't be able to return home if the elevator is destroyed, and the flight lead replies that it's not one of theirs. They don't name drop them though.
>>551504350>Was anything about her or her trip to space actually hinted at anywhere else during the campaignYes, once, as an extremely vague off-hand mention by a faceless mook just before a sequence that is hard to understand by itself. It's in Rescue before Gargoyle is ordered to shoot at the elevator where one of the Gargoyles states that "they" wouldn't be able to return without the elevator and HQ replies that "that ship isn't one of ours"

A quick question for the bros currently replaying the games. The ps2 emulator now works pretty much without an issue right? do you still have to apply the widescreen and deinterlacing patches or are they automatically used now? I see them listed so should check those or are they not needed anymore

>>551531042Yeah, it's a big shame 7 didn't add any standard issue fictional planes despite how heavily it leaned into experimental specials.
>>551504350I want to learn more about the state of spaceflight in Strangereal, they've got a space elevator and have had mass drivers for decades, at one point you see the ruins of "many space shuttles" on Tyler Island, which makes me wonder how many there were and what they were used for before becoming obsolete. IRL we only had five and two of those killed people.
A rerun episode!? But this time it seems we're not going to blow it up!
>>551536619You can't know how cool it was to return to this map for the first time after 20 years both in-game and irl, AC4 was my first Ace Combat (and first PS2 game) so the nostalgia baiting 100% worked on me, I can't even be mad about it.
>>551534973>>551534973They have to be light years ahead of us, considering SSTO's were in regular operation by 2010. They also have orbital solar farms with microwave beamed power, and the SOLG (which is a kilometre long, 10x that of the ISS). Imagine if NASA got the budget to prevent the Apocalypse.
>>551537160you're the yellow now
>>551537421Reminder that the pre-trailer sequence had a brief snippet of terms like "gravitational field, electromagnetic radiation, stellar mass" show up. Seems like its hinting at something space-related.
>>551537421I'd love to see what Pegasus-1 looks like, mounting a mission out to solar orbit for an asteroid redirect is definitely beyond our current tech but Ulysses seems to have injected adrenaline into the development of manned spaceflight. I wonder if they were relatively less developed before and only started rapidly advancing after discovering the asteroid, or if 1960s Osea had the equivalent of the Apollo Applications project. They had Space Shuttles so they must have followed a similar development, though it seems like the Shuttle worked out better in Strangereal than the irl ones did. Maybe the original "rapid landing/refurbishment/turnaround" idea actually worked as intended, leading to fleets of Shuttles ferrying tons of material to orbit for building big shit.

>>551534973The mass drivers may have lead to shuttles having a different layout for launch which may have avoided the entire external fuel tank issue and with multiple countries having manned space programs there could have been legit case where a stricken shuttle in orbit holds it's ground while the Yukes/Oseans/Eruseans/FCU launches a rescue shuttle and picks up the crew while sending their shuttle down on autopilot.Really Comona's complex is a bit of a relic and we know they had at least one shuttle blown up during the Coup (which had one of the laser sats which were going to help intercept Ulysses). is ace combat 4 the most aesthetically pleasing of the games?
>>551549267Yes, and only because of Breaking Arrows.A night-time mission in a polar climate with a bright full moon and visible aurorae is downright soulful.
>>551549267For me that's gonna between 3, X, and 7.
>>551549264Yea it's definitely looking that way with the AC7 model as there's definitely no engines on em. Although Not sure if those notched areas are just there to be anchor points for cranes used to mate it with the shuttle. I could see it with chutes for recovery akin to the SRBs for the Shuttle but with the far smaller scale I could see that they were fully internally insulated as a good amount of thrust was being delivered by mass driver. The one in AC7 probably was firing at lower outputs as they wanted to get to the Arsenal Birds fast but not going to space. I suspect they needed the pod in order to have the launch configuration mode on the shuttle be happy without throwing up massive warnings about improper docking of fuel container/cargo pod or to give it enough fuel to use in atmo to get to the Arsenal Bird and having enough fuel remaining to do the docking and transfer and fly back to Tyler Island (or decide to fly to another site with a runway that was big enough to handle a SSTO landing)Imagine being an ATC who's already half dead after having to organize and get down all these planes screaming about GPS failures and being lost then having to clear the airspace for a fucking space shuttle landing
>>551504810>In rescue some Gargoyle Squadron pilots mention that they won't be able to return home if the elevator is destroyed, and the flight lead replies that it's not one of theirs. It's weird how Osean high command tries to destroy the space elevator in Rescue but then it's never brought up again. The shady Osea stuff is there during Mage and Spare, but gets dropped with the LRSSG. Then it's brought back in the DLC again.I think this stuff was part of the planning stages for the game, but when development was going to hell they shifted gears to a more standard story that relies more on callbacks. I feel like the callbacks only really pick up when you join LRSSG, that's when you get Stonehenge, Farbanti and Aces.

But the plans turned out to be a "Fitted For but not Fitted With" which meant during the Circum Pacific War they could easily mount the laser system for orbit to surface strikes.>>551601586Only had stick issues with my PS4 but it seemed to be a case of me having to pop it open and clean the area within as it managed to get dust in there resulting in a studder-step/jitter response when intending to go 100% in a direction. For the Switch not properly snapping Nintendo oddly enough cheaped out on that one part of the connector so it might get weak over time (or a strong impact might cause damage) but unless you're an utter ape the joycon should stay connected if only because of of your grip hovering over the shoulder buttons. With me maybe it was controller wrapping but my N64s had low tilt dead zones but that might also be from N64 games which had the utterly brilliant idea of "Spin the stick in a circle repeatedly" as a core mechanic. My PS2 controllers may have button rot on the face buttons as the pressure sensitivity on one of them is utterly shot so playing Ace Combat means either basic radar zoom or full out zoom at this point. But the pressure sensitive shit was never a reliable thing for the PS2
>>551598207We know it's in part a cargo pod, potentially it's also got fuel storage although the ones at Tyler Island were purely setup for docking with the Arsenal Birds so a 'lean' configuration was likely kept since they were never meant to break orbit just be ultra heavy lift craft to dock with the Arsenal Birds to resupply them. The launch we see at Basset might have been thrown a lot harder because it was unmanned and the Arkbird may have also dipped it's altitude so a suborbital trajectory was all that was needed to dock and deliver the laser and release the drone shuttle to return to an airfield autonomously.
So what exactly is the reason they're not remaking the PS2 trilogy? People have been clamoring for years, the thought must have at least crossed their minds at least once, right?
>>551619556you either get remakes or you get new games, now im not sure about you but the latter sounds a hell of a lot more attractive than the former.thats the actual justification btw, they dont want to leave it up to some random outsourced studio, but they also dont have the staff to do remakes alongside new titles.also something something aircraft licensing.
I bought Frontline 59 with some Chrimbus money and I have quickly learned the Frogfoot was a bad idea for mission too, crashed into the ocean doing a gun run. I really hate that PW's ship targets require you to destroy all the subsystems first before hitting the main vessel. Also is it just me or are accel/decwl on the thrusters a lot weaker than in AC?
>>551619556>>551621945I don't know if people realize how disappointing a bad remake would be from a 3rd party studio (look at half the remakes that came out in past 10 years)Also emulation exists and its better then ever

Man, what a great game. And honestly what a great fucking series, it's really nice to see such a generally consistent world being built throughout decades, and while there were some games that, I would say, weren't as in line with the vision or world of the series, they still had some good moments to them. This entry was beautiful, it had a lot of fun and varied missions, and flying was exceptionally smooth. Seeing the jet models in such high fidelity was really awesome, and being able to play around with the laser weaponry was a blast as well. The DLC's are all I have to really finish up on, but the story itself is done for this game, it was a good one, I got confused at a few points towards the end there, but it's all cleared up now, and it was overall a satisfying ending. just finished ace combat 7, i may have misinterpreted captain torres plan but is his plan is too hit osea so that erusia and osea will have a common enemy which is the alicorn since they are a terrorist group? also erusia giving the alicorn blueprint means they know about captain torres being a terrorist so i thought of it that way, am i wrong? i googled it and people say torres is just a psycopath
>>551719428i think it was more 'if you dont stop fighting i'll nuke every city until there's nothing left to fight over', peace through superior firepower and all that
>>551719428I think that he went nuts and was looking a too much at the Continental and Belkan Wars. He thinks the war will end up claiming ten million lives, but if he nukes Oured then the shock of it will make Erusea and Osea stop and call for peace, like what happened when Belka dropped the seven nukes and the allied powers immediately stopped and opened peace negotiations. So he was essentially trying to re-create the Belkan War nuke thing, but with just one nuke, to forcefully stop the war. Hence 'one million lives' to save ten million. At least I think that's it.
>>551720230
>>551719428He spins nuking Oured as "seeing one million lives get taken in one fell swoop will make everyone lay down their weapons and end this war", but his actual motivation is simply to land the most difficult shot he possibly can.As he says, "Gunnery is about killing the people on board." He wants to kill a million people. Land a clean shot on a difficult target, because that's his definition of true beauty.
>>551719428This >>551720230 is how he sold it to his crew but >>551720910 this was his real reason. He's nuts but was still sane enough to know he had to sell the idea to his crew with something plausible. Or find himself getting a 9mm retirement plan from his command duty officer.

>>551740635Ammo doesn't transfer from previous missions in Ace Combat. But yeah, if you picked an attacker then that's what you'll be flying in 8492. Not that it's all that difficult to kill them all even if you're in one, as long as it's something reasonable like an F-15E or whatever multirole carries UGBLs.
>>551740635>Really you're "Supposed" to fleeing as usually in campaign you'll be showing up IIRC with same plane status coming out of the previous mission so probably like no ammo left and in an attacker.Maybe Ace difficulty is different since it's a NG+ mode but my plane had its missiles and SPWs restocked going into the mission. I bailed on my first playthrough since I got shot down a couple times and decided I didn't want to deal with a bajillion Berkuts who just seemed to be glued to my butt at all times regardless of how I moved, really didn't feel up to it at the time.
>>551741737Tells me how good my memory has been for not playing in a good decade+ but with how the unlock tree was you're not gonna have something like that until NG+ so you're probably using a Tornado or Hog probably. Unless you're grinding out F-15C kill meter in free mission before completing a first time through. Also like I get that some people don't like the Aircraft Tree in 7 but I'll take that any day over the Kill Meter to Unlock thing that was in 5
>>551742641>Tells me how good my memory has been for not playing in a good decade+ but with how the unlock tree was you're not gonna have something like that until NG+ so you're probably using a Tornado or Hog probablyThe F-15C unlocks before you sink the hrimfaxi. There's like 7 missions between there and 8492nd. It takes 2 or 3 to fill the kill gauge, especially with the sheer target count of desert lightning / desert arrow. If you went the alternate route with 4 horsemen then you unlock the Su-27 instead and filling its kill gauge unlocks the S-32(Su-34 Fullback) which is also a great choice for "Fortress".

Honestly I like Hamilton. He's crazy and his plan's retarded, but he's batshit enough to get into ANOTHER plane right after getting you shot down and immediately follow you into a tunnel run. I'm going throught the emulation rabbit hole. Already finished zero. Now I understand why you guys said that narratively it is the best Ace Combat, but it honestly felt it kinda short, haven't unlocked everything yet, so I guess the mercenary and soldier re-runs where always part of the game, and thus it's short missions. Im now trying to play AC6, and man what a pain in the ass. Any tips on making 6 run at any speed that doesn't feel like flying through water and any way to make the reaction to the controls withing this lifetime? Or is AC6 just like that? It just feels like a whiplash going from crisp (white sheets) HD aircraft at 60+fps in zero with instant reactions, to pixelated targets and slow jets that feel like I'm battling the controls more than the enemies. (Seriously was there such bad imput lag on the original 360 ver?). Like I tried playing with the controller plugged in but it was even worse wtf.
this game is kinda assshould i stick with it? im at the mission where you have to destroy a bunch of ships in 6 minutes and got stuck here because im out of missiles early

The grand battles, a wingman which I will say is competent (I ran out of missiles on mission 7 and had him shoot down the last drone, earned my respect), the long lasting contrails of missiles and planes that I've only seen replicated in PW, an absurd amount of weaponry to go along the bigger missions, and hell you can look down your cockpit and see your legs, I was expecting that in 7 and got disapointed, the cockpits in 6 look nice!>>551847516I don't feel it that way. >>551951478The sandstorm sucks so bad, God forbid you wanna bring an A-10 to one of the few missions in 7 that are mostly A2G. Especially if you wanna S-Rank it because you need to shoot down a few of the drones to get enough points. Actually you know what that's something 8 has more of, Attackers and missions that are well suited for them.
>>551951478It would be less painful if the time limit was more generous (5 minutes to find a bunch of trucks in a sandstorm is a bit too short)
>>551951773I should say I hope 8 has more. No emergency A2A intercepts, no weird gimmicks that aren't suited for slow lumbering planes, just a straight up shooting gallery like Long Day or Fleet Destruction.
>>551952065I think inclement weather in 8 should ideally actually make highly stable ground attack planes like the A-10 more desirable, since they'd be able to take the punishment better.
>>551952360That could work pretty well and actually give stability a use as a stat for the first time ever. Seriously has that stat ever mattered?
>>5519517737 is really annoying in having most missions be 50/50 air and ground, there's only 4 missions which are only A2A (5 if you ignore the repeaters at the end in the elevator). And every mission which should be mostly A2G, ie Long Day, Pipeline, Faceless Soldier, Bunker Buster etc, has a mission update that is A2A at the end.
>>551952506Far as I can tell, all it stands for is that you can make minute adjustments with yaw and pitch better without overshooting. Which in the grand scheme of prior ACs is nice but nowhere near as beneficial as SPEED and SPEED and MORE SPEED.Which probably ties into mission design and not relying on very short time limits to induce a sense of pressure.
>>551952506i think it matters in stall recovery and low altitude flying
>>551952736Long Day's drones aren't too big a deal since the map is so big you can straight up avoid them, I meant more like the Bunker Buster kind where it's a required objective.>>551952813>>551953093Huh. I'll have to pay more attention to it next time I play.
>>551953392I think it would be ideal if mission updates changed depending on what category of plane you fly. Fly a fighter or multirole, then mid mission update makes you deal with an enemy fighter squadron or drone swarm ingressing. Fly an attacker, then its a convoy doing a supply run, or something to that effect.
>>551953676That could be a fun idea and give score attack missions a little more replayability. Stonehenge Defensive has the mission update where you choose to either bomb the rocket artillery or intercept the helicopter force. That but semi-random would be neat.
>>551953676Dynamic mission updates that reflect the particular aircraft and loadout you bring would definitely enhance replayability.
>>551954575Yeah that would be an even simpler method, simply spawn both air and ground targets in, but let you choose which one to attack.
>>551954783It'd be a good way to make your allies more useful too. Especially with squad commands coming back.
I’m hoping that with the return of wingman commands, our allied kills will get added to our score again.
>>551954914And especially if they bring back letting you choose what planes your wingmen fly. Take an A-10, get your buddies to fly Hornets, tell them to take on the enemy air support while you go ground pounding.
>>551954978Or at least give us partial credit for them if they don't want to give you full points.>>551955135That's a good idea too.
Bit of a weird ask /aceg/, I'm looking for any compilations of the voice lines in AC7 for the Unnamed Spare squadron members. There's like a video on every character in 7 with all their voice lines collated but no one's made one for any of the generic background chatter. If anyone has a link to a video or to download an mp4 or something, I'd appreciate it. Thanks.
>>551954978I just hope the allies can actually kill stuff this time Nothing like watching friendly missiles splash against drones for no damage.
>>551968083>>551970398literally just need to un nerf their missiles, they have no problem actually getting behind an enemy in 7, but you can watch them just unload missile after missile into an enemy plane and doing fuck all
>>551851194>the Yellow 13 child is probably in his teens or a little youngerit's been like 25 years, he's like 35
hope we get the good ol' Phantom II in AC8
>>551970665>red hair>red eyes>"mahou"is that my puellawife kyoko
>>551981485Ideally we should get an F-4J or F-4S since we're carrier-based in this game
>>551981897it'll be another preorder bonus for the paypiggies (me)
Went back to play Anchorhead Raid and its got so much detail with the radio chatter, and the enemy really puts up a fight. Really looking forward to 8 if that manages to be the baseline.
>>551981897I just want F-4G to return, it's fun to see machineguns coming out of gunpods rather than somewhere in the body
>>551983089better than it not being in the game at all>>551983662SP 2 is the most AC6 that 7 gets and I mean that in the best way possible, I really hope that 8 goes back to that level of scale and dynamism in missions now that the "growing pains" they had with 7 are over
I hope 8 has detailed enemy aces. You can really feel the passion put into the game even from simple blurbs like this, and I honestly care more about learning their backstories than wearing their paintjobs.>motherfucker blows up Osean Excalibur in a Growler (presumably)
>>551987097the enemy ace skins should feature their squadron emblem and aircraft tailcodes too thougheverbeit, all the unlockable skins in 7 feel super naked, and the pitiful emblem system just doesnt cut it.
>>551987659I hate thougheverbeit posters
>>551981897I find it odd that for some reason the Phantom in these games is represented by a fictional navalized F-4E. >>551984089I wouldn't the F-4X being back.
Kono... please... I beg you...
>>551997470For me it's the Cariburn
>>551987097<<Don't hate me cause I'm jamming you, osean, maybe if you got rid of that yee-yee ass F-5 you'd get some kills in yo record. Oh better yet, maybe Eagle Eye will BRAA your dog ass if he ever stop tasking that allied squadron or wing he coordinatin with.>><<OSEANNNNN>>
>Trickshotting a flying fortress with a bunker buster
So sad i liked him a lot
>>552013597
>>551878742fun fact: as a kid i thought i bought 2 different games, because in italy i have the same AC5 for PS2, but one has the F-14 and the other one has an Eurofighter in it
>>551997470I don't see how they can't not be in the game by this point they are 10 year old plenes everyone should have some in service by this point.
>>552015050the fuck is the story behind them removing the 5 from the title?
>>552016124All the PS2 games were numberless in the EU, for some reason
>>551780732You just hit him in a noncritical area. His plane doesn't crash you can still find it flying around on the map with X over itI far prefer my headcannon idea for it>Plane crashes >Hamiltion jumps out of it moments before impact and rolls to a safe landing on the highway>He looks up and yells RAZGRIZ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!>Veins ready to burst all over his face>Hamilton is running fast enough to trigger the local speed cams on his run to a Grunder Hanger>Arrives at the hanger still blood red with anger>Your plane give it to me NOW!!!!>Punches out pilot anyway and steals another Mig-1.44>Follows you into the tunnel
>>552018190You could power both arsenal birds for a thousand years with the pure hatred and anger that Hamilton is seething in.
>>551983662Remember this girl right here calls out what SPW you bring.
>>552015067Those belkan diaspora in Aurelia are hiding them from the rest of the world
>>552019531enemy squadrons get their own unique squadron callsigns, Longcaster tells you when you've taken out all of a specific type of aircraft and the Aegis SHORAD facilities, each ship gets its own name called out over radio, Longcaster tells you the bearing of incoming enemy aircraft, its really detailed.
>>552026651Count has different dialogue if you destroy something right at the beginning of the mission, and the response to Longcaster's "never mind your manners" line changes depending on if you attacked the north or south part of the harbour first.
>>552026651I hope that kind of detail is found in every single mission in 8I also expectTasha>Oh nice kill on that Flanker Rex thats one going on Strangetwitter>You roasted those Fullbacks thats another one for Strangetwitter>Your UGB missed that parked IL-76 yeah thats going on the blooper reel.
>>552031253> <<I think that was a house...>>
I might be retarded, but i just realized that Tyler island in M17 of AC7 is the same of AC5 lmaoMy dumbass thought it was "just another one" until now
>>552032267You don't go to Tyler Island in AC5 though. That mass driver is somewhere else entirely, the one on Tyler really is just another one.
>>552031253After you already made a name for yourself and style on another enemy aceTasha<<Predictable>>
>>552032267It is just another one you never go to Usea in 5But for things that do appear in 2 & 7....
>>552034819One thing I noticed while playing through AHL is that 7 managed to stay fairly faithful to those locations shown in AHL.Anchorhead in particular is the one that made me realize it.
>>552036724Yeah not much changes beyond the hardware allows you to flesh out the locations and make them larger. Like Stonehenge its size in 7 is ~2.5-3x larger than it was in 4
>install Ostrich's HD HUD textures>5 and Zero look worse nowWeird, maybe it's because I'm trying to play 20 year old PS2 games on a 4K tv. 4 does look better at least.
>>552047632That's strange.Do you happen to have manual hardware renderer fixes enabled on 5 and Zero or something?
>>552047632>maybe it's because I'm trying to play 20 year old PS2 games on a 4K tvI swapped my PS2 over to my CRT when I noticed how blurry everything looked, on an older screen its much crisper.
>>552048596No, my PCSX2 is pretty much all the default settings v2.4.0 (latest stable one, from June this year) comes with. The only changes I've made are non-graphical, only change being switching L1/R1 with L2/R2 (started with 7, and the muscle memory's too ingrained).>>552048962CRTs are wonderful.
>>551931502Can’t speak for 5 from memory, 4 definitely requires you to beat Expert to unlock Ace. I think they all do.
>>551987659>the enemy ace skins should feature their squadron emblem and aircraft tailcodesDisagree, except maybe as an MP toggle feature, or an additional alternate version. Your plane in single-player should always feature your own tail code and squadron emblem. AC5 and Zero did this best.
>>552052684billion dollar idea:one skin, multiple variations to switch between.i.e. you pick skin #3, ace skin - you can switch between blank, player character or enemy markings.
>>552053229Yeah, this is my fucking dream feature. Please, Kono, if you’re lurking I am begging you to add this functionality.
<<I can make your kill count to be whatever.>>
>>552050034The HD textures require you to check some boxes in the graphics settings for the individual games, did you do those?
>>552058631Are there? The only steps on Ostrich's site is to place the files in the textures folder and to check the setting to load testures in PCSX2, there's no further instructions even jn the download. It's not that big a deal to me if the HDD textures don't want to play nice on my system, especially since the emulator doesn't want to take screenshots while using them. The default is still perfectly readable for me.
>>552050034When you d/l the HUD you saw the part where he tells you what you have to check to make it work right? go check those boxes under texture replacement or it won't work>latest stable Most everyone here uses the nightly I have yet to have any issues with it and it makes AC games look even better as some of the adjustments haven't been added to the stable yet.>CRTs are wonderful. If your older nonHD consoles still work its the only way to play them
>>552060157>especially since the emulator doesn't want to take screenshots while using themYou need to pick a key for that yourself its not on by default.
>>552031253>I also expect>Tasha>>Oh nice kill on that Flanker Rex thats one going on Strangetwitter>>You roasted those Fullbacks thats another one for Strangetwitter>>Your UGB missed that parked IL-76 yeah thats going on the blooper reel.seriously hope not
Preparing the new thread!
>>552053229Genuinely what I’ve always wanted.
>>552060265Buddy, there's literally a single box Ostrich tells you to check and that's the "Load Textures" option. Everything else is already like that by default>>552060265>Most everyone here uses the nightly I have yet to have any issues with it and it makes AC games look even better as some of the adjustments haven't been added to the stable yet.I figured it's been like half a decade since I last used PCSX2 so I thought the stable version would finally be fine. And it is besides this texture thing, which by no means is a dealbreaker for me; current stable runs the trilogy without needing to fiddle with settings and it's from June, a far cry from the times when stable would be years behind the nightlies.
>>552061546If you got both boxes checked. Then I guess it comes down to your playing in default SD instead of HD upscale and it ain't going to work in SD apparently.
>>552034819What's fun from 7 is when the computer's cursor briefly hover over Megalith as if they almost decided to evacuate to an abandoned ICBM launch facility
>>552053229Nice but we can do betterPick a blank skin put what you want hit save. You have up to 30 sub slots per plane under the blank skin for custom emblem and marking setups.
>>552062438Its not a bad choice when everything has gone to shit. It has a hidden runway its a huge armored fortress island far enough away to not draw attention from anyone. Fresh fish to eat all the time it wasn't a horrible choice given the state of USEA at that point.
>>552063436I agree on that, but wasn't the damage extensive enough from all the exploding missiles from 20 years past?
>>552062438What's funnier is that the dialogue suggests it was Count's idea, for 'self defense'.
<</aceg/, you are cleared for takeoff.>>>>552064070>>552064070>>552064070
>>552060832Turns out it's actually set to F8 by default but it's still user error on my part. I guess it doesn't like saving screenshots while the emulation is paused, I just thought it was due to textures earlier because I could get it to take shots with the textures unloaded but not with them.>>552062423Could be. I'm not going to mess around too much with it, though, I'll just stick to default.
>>552063631Honestly we don't know sure the main ICBM launch area is cooked but the rest of it seemed fine. It was a huge base after all, should have more than enough in good enough condition to work with.
