>What the heck is this
/indie/ is the general for all indie games, such as A Hat in Time, Animal Well, Baba Is You, Balatro, Battle Brothers, Cave Story, Celeste, CrossCode, Cultist Simulator, Darkest Dungeon, Darkwood, Dead Cells, Disco Elysium, Environmental Station Alpha, FTL, Hades, Hollow Knight: Silksong, Hotline Miami, LISA, Lobotomy Corp, Loop Hero, Machinarium, Monster Train, Noita, Nuclear Throne, OFF, OneShot, Rain World, Shovel Knight, Slay the Spire, Starsector, Subnautica, Sunless Skies, The Witness, Void Stranger, etc., as well as other games that just don't fit in any other general such as Atelier, Pillars of Eternity, and Valkyria Chronicles. /jrpg/ is welcome. Idle, roguelite, shmup, 4x / RTS / city-builders, and RPGMaker games are cool too.

Mobile or consoles, Flash or Unity, freeware or early access. This place is a home for the indie game community and indie and obscure games that don't have a home. So be free to talk and share all your hidden gems, forgotten games and starving devs here.

>Can I talk about games that already have a general?
We mostly discuss games that are not popular enough for their own threads, however, all indie games are allowed. So talk about them if you want, but don't overdo it since you already have other generals for that.

You know what I love about BoH? How slow you can take it if you want to. In Cultist Simulator you constantly had ticking timers breathing down your neck which was totally fine for the type of game that wanted to be but here you can just chill out. For instance I got totally overwhelmed by my vast collection of books, both read and unread. So today I took a break, barely read anything and mostly focused on putting all my Lessons to good use.
And incidentally I got over a room unlocking plateau after breaking through to a serious of Lantern rooms which are perfect for my Twice-Born
This is the furthest I've ever gotten in the game, so I'm quite confident that this run might finally be the one

Also what the hell? I'm 100% I should have encountered my first Numa by now and it still isn't showing up. I was panicking about not being able to upgrade my skills in time and everything.
>>

>I'm 100% I should have encountered my first Numa by now
it'll happen at a random point in a nine season blocks, so it's possible you wouldn't see one until year three

Yeah, I was just pretty sure that that screenshot was taken at the end of the 2nd year (8th season)of this playthrough but after that I got a regular spring. But maybe I just lost count, to be honest I also can't recall in which season the game starts.

Remember when big studios tried to sell translations and dubs as paid dlcs and somehow a ton of people tried to defend that? "But dubs and translations are not free!! Big studios must pay the translators and voice actors!!". Yeah, that's called an investment you fucking retard. Not everyone speaks your fucking language.
I'm glad that specific anti-consumer practice died as quickly as it was attempted.

It really does have a cozy librarian feel to it once it gets going. It also discourages grinding with how little space you actually have available (although I guess you could just say 'fuck it' and let it all litter the ground)

I also love how nice it feels when you start to find your way around the house better which also makes it more discouraging to get back in after a long break. Like when I need a tool with a certain aspect, by now I know where to get one. For instance yesterday I was missing 1 Moth for a book and I didn't know if I had a Moth tool, but I knew that if I do, it'd very likely be in the Long Tower, and guess what I found.
Also I like how both this and Cultist Simulator does storytelling/worldbuilding. There is still a lot of shit I don't (and maybe won't ever) understand and I'll have to either read up online or let it remain a mystery. But it just has a way of repeating certain things that seem important over an over again mostly in books and room/item descriptions. So sooner or later you start to recognize names and events you've heard of before and might catch on what seems to be important.
For instance Natan the Physician from Regensburg came up a lot yesterday and I wouldn't be surprised if his importance in the grand scheme of things is minor, but I do still feel like I have a slightly better understanding of who he was now
>I need to find a way to get some nectar skills now...
I see that's a universal experience. I guess it makes sense, since you only get 1 from health at the start.

Oh and also I've started to catch on to the fact that some of the books have gameplay hints like they did in Cultist Simulator too. A recent book I've read talked about a crafting recipe similar to how Lore Fragments gave you instructions how to summon certain entities.
Also funny how the CS books have the exact same text as they did in that game, so occasionally I read something and realize it's a hint for CultSim

Getting the hang of this game after a while, found some good nimble combos to look up to while raiding camps and getting money from selling shit.
Early game was easy to understand but once you get raider gear I felt stumped for a while in what to buy on what bro.
Turns out its a simple "B.F" or "Nimble" perk choice to decide that, hell, even dedicated shieldbros can be given heavy armor since they have to tank a lot.
I like how this game forces you to do your research, even if it has made me bump my fist agaisnt my table
>>
>>551403252
On my first playthrough the game did not have the hints for what skills belonged to what book, nor did it have the crafting interface at all.
So your only way to work out how to craft items and what skills you could expect from a book were those little hints.
It was very immersive but also... you HAD to make notes or go mad.

Now the game is pretty user friendly, the one thing missing is it auto logging the kind of memory you get from a specific book somewhere.
Also the one thing I still don't like is the excessive amount of skills available, they feel very unnecessary and don't add anything.
>>
>>551404531
Are you using the legends mod?
I think at this point it is just a better game with it, though it does give a lot of extra complexity. A lot more cool combos as well though.

I'm using vanilla, legends looks interesting but I play the game for the atmosphere too, and I don't really feel that in legends. Sometimes less is more I guess
>>
>>551404898
I think the lesson hints are a nice to have, but the game felt quite playable without them. Even made it feel more rewarding to finally find out what it was. But the crafting thing is definitely a life saver.
I will always defend a dev's right to keep the vision of their game they had intact even if I might not like it but I'm glad weather factory is willing to add some QoL like this when, presumably, some parts of the game are too challenging in a tedious and unintended way.
>the one thing missing is it auto logging the kind of memory you get from a specific book somewhere
Yeah that's pretty much the only thing I have m notebook on my desk for at the moment. Aside from noting down the names of previous librarians. Though I think I do want to also note down some crafting pathways I find that are accessible to be. Because I know I made some Xanthotic Essence and turned it into ink a week or so ago, but I didn't write it down and can't for the life of me remember what I used to make it.

Glad to see this game still getting some love; BB is one of the all-time greats for squad based tactics imo.
It's also one of very few games where I think you're really not subtracting from the experience at all by cheating and/or savescumming while you're still learning how things work. Shit's hard. I got filtered the first several times I tried to get into it before going on to put ~600 hours into the game.

I like the how it feels to progress in the game, winning battles and leveling up isn't everything, you also need to manage your resources and invest into what your team needs. You see your bros land better hits and looking less like bums and more like proper fighters, shits cash.
There's so much gambling in the game you begin to learn what your limits are from all the dead bros you got, sometimes cannon fodder has to go.
Right now I'm trying to learn how to tackle undead fights, I'm in the weird spot where I know the strategies and the requirements, yet when I'm going out with my bros at around day 20 or 30 with raider gear and bannerman, they absolutely flop by gheists or simple stamina checks, so I'm either too low level or I need to upgrade my gear better

nta but he is after one of the producers or devs on E33 said that they used AI for placeholder and prototyping meshes and textures everyone said that they lied about using AI to make a game. I'm not sure how they rules are written but it seems like it maybe have been vague and either the E33 team is bad at reading English or they assumed they qualified since they only used AI in the prototyping stage.
I don't know, generally when something like this comes up in reward shows what happens is that they just disqualify the award but let the team keep it and bar them from future awards. I think it rankled a lot of people that not only did they "take back" the award, but they re-awarded it to another game, which is generally not something you do and is seen as really bad form.
I don't know, I don't have brainrot.

That's a pattern I've seen someone point out with people crying about "woke" games. It's only bad games that are every woke, because then you can kick down and say it sold poorly because it has a gay character or something.
But if a game is called woke before release but then sells well, they usually stop talking about it, because that ruins the narrative of go woke go broke. I believe Space Marine 2 went through that (allegedly woke because it had a black or female character in a trailer or something)

Never. Closest I read was the Farseer trilogy, I think, and it had a lot of magic.

There are African humans in 40k and there are also Black Space Marines but they still have European features. The issue is taking specific chapters that HAVE A SPECIFIC LINEAGE AND LOOK A SPECIFIC WAY and then saying "Lol he is black and has a samurai sword, and he is also a woman" when that makes literally no sense for a Nordic Space Marine chapter to have.
If the lore doesn't matter then just make your own shit.

Plus it depends on the context, if it's something like >>551419903 it might be interesting, depending on how it's done. There are brawlers in the game that have bonus hit points for punching, theoretically speaking you could have a group of brawlers just beating the shit out of the necro until he drops, no wrestling though

Hamilton is mid, scuffed American Les Miserables. If you can watch it for free on tv or at your local library, or if you are paying for a on-demand service and it comes with it; I recommend you watch it. Some of the music gets stuck in my head despite it being mid and its competently done.
I would not pay to watch it live or go spend money to specifically watch it though. Like most modern things it jerks itself off a tad bit to much politically and like most things that take place in New York, it jerks itself off a lot about being in New York.

Fair enough, sadly the language I'm currently learning is until recently somewhat obscure, so it's not always easy to find media in it.
But this is how I (and probably most people here) learned English. Playing my second playthrough of most games in English for most games and eventually switching to English altogether.
In general it's kinda crazy, I like consuming media in its original language if possible, which translates to me almost exclusively consuming English language media. So I have to go out of my way to supplement that with my native language, because I would obviously like to grow more eloquent in that aswell

Game design is teh hard.
Many seemingly smart gamedevs have an inclination to misunderstand percentages when designing things. They either see them as a multiplier or only consider statistical effect, with no regard for actual consequences.

>attack with 50% hit chance 100 damage
Dev: okay that's 50 dpt on average, perfectly balanced.
Player: wow that shit either instagibs me or does nothing.

A coinflip might be fine when you have a rapid firing low damage weapon but then they apply the same logic to shit that either obliterates anything in its path or wastes a whole turn doing nothing.
>>
>>551531564
Another thing is devs expecting the players wanting to feel "hardcore" to just keep up with bullshit and keep banging their heads against a wall until all the planets and the rng elements align.

They allow themselves to design games like this, because "its supposed to be tough", "the player is supposed to keep trying", "the player is supposed to deal with whatever".

Its just a relic of tabletop gaming, which gameplay is the direct foundation for all video game rpg mechanics like % to hit and the likes because on paper it was a logical way to implement fairness in combat, as you couldnt expect the dm/table master to eyeball it all without bias or errors of judgement. And since its mostly dice rolls and probability, they translate very easily into a software format.
>>
>>551544365
Not to mention that a good GM can still adjust the difficulty on the fly, if for some reason an encounter is too hard or too easy to the point of being unfun.
>>
I've got so many games to play that I need to use random.org to force me to decide instead of procrastinating.
Why do I keep putting myself in that position...
>>
>>551544365
There's nothing wrong with randomized hit chances per se.
But yeah more often than not it is cargoculted from tabletop d20s without thinking much.

>And since its mostly dice rolls and probability, they translate very easily into a software format.
What doesn't translate easily into software format?

Randomness is the one thing that computers can't do and RNGs used to be very expensive to run not long ago.
Look at the state of Doom's RNG: 256 bytes. No I don't mean one entry is 256 bytes, literally the entire state of it is 256 entries stored in 256 bytes. This post is 838 bytes.
It's perfectly adequate for a videogame, yet every modern game runs some rng lib that probably has state longer than the lifespan of the universe... and still reinstantiates its rng on every roll because modern devs haven't a fucking clue.

You can use random hit chances, it's not an inherently flawed idea.
You just gotta be mindful of how impactful a miss/hit is in practice and avoid edge cases or design features to alleviate them.

For ranged combat, there has been a better solution since the 90s. Just simulate the projectile trajectory like original xcom does. The random element is just the shot dispersion, no bullshit.
Your leet sniper tries to score a hit halfway across the map through several windows? That's gonna be a gamble no matter how good he and his gear is.
Your untrained rookie blasts at someone standing 3 meters away? That shot will probably connect.

Devs for competitive or otherwise more serious games have used various methods to make RNG less prone to bouts of extreme luck swings. POE's evasion entropy is a good example. It doesn't take anything more complicated than that.

Okay. Sly cooper, persona 5, kingdom hearts, paper mario ttyd, crash bandicoot warped (remake), spyro 2 (remake), rune factory 1, ape escape, thief 2, elden ring, jak and daxter, ratchet and clank, cuphead or one of the numerous wild cards I have to play eventually?

should I bother playing hollowknight before silksong?
>>
>>551550426
I don't think there is much reason not to.
>>
>>551550426
It's definitely less polarizing and arguably a better entry point. A lot of the complaints about silksong boil down to the fact it feels like they spent the last five years perfecting the pantheons of HK and made a game for themselves and people into that, so silksong is well made but it's a treacherous vindictive spiky game compared to HK.
>>
>>551548339
>to make RNG less prone to bouts of extreme luck swings
Wouldn't then missing 3 times in a row still feel like a extreme luck swing with that system?
>>
>>551480423
So does this game suck ass or is it actually decent? It looks SO janky that it might turn around to be kino.

Hey anons, is this the place to talk about shit like this?
Anyway.. I tried this game due to the shilling and it's just not that good
Game mechanics are mid, it's just turn-based combat
The art for the character itself solo is fine, but actual sex scenes look like shit
and everyone is REALLY ugly and disgusting wtf
as in, they legit look vile - goblins, people, other shit
and the game itself requires too much focus so you can't even really jack off
and there's kinda nothing to jack off to, it's pretty ugly

Unlocked the entire main building. Feels great. And I also love how I'm actually becoming better at the game, as in I have to consult my notes less and less to know which books to read for which memories for instance. I never expected this to be possible in this game.
Also started dabbling in crafting a little. Though I'm much more interested in crafting memories than items to be honest, as those are easier to keep track of.
Gonna keep going west I think. One of the books made it sounds like the Prison downstairs has some ominous shit in it and I'm fine with keeping that untouched for now

I'm getting that feeling. I'd encountered The Quarg pretty early and went to their little triangle of system. "Oh, neat, a little [REDACTED] as a treat. I must be close to completing these storyline chains." Then I was truckin' a while to get a fleet that wasn't just mining or Infinite Freighter Works: Tokyo Drift Edition™. Started ranking up in that combat rating. Got to three or four and decided to go poking around in the dark corners up north, figuring I could survive decently enough unless it's like a massive pirate hive. It took a couple of "Shit, a wrong turn, I'm out of fuel" reloads but I found something strange it allowed me to land on. Stumbled into the exact opposite of what I expected to find. Well, until you go north to the Unfettered, but that was a little later. Spent from August 3017 to May 3018 being a shuttle to sci-fi conventions and vacationers. All the while a Syndicate salesman I rescued waits for me to drop him somewhere so I can sign some paperwork.

I'm gonna assume there is some merit in thinking about if certain people potentially shouldn't be helped though on that note it's very funny how my dislike for the Bureau stems mainly from Cultist Simulator. I assume the Librarian would potentially have a more amicable relationship with them
However I don't understand this world nearly well enough to make those kinds of decisions, so for now I'll just be a librarian apathetic to the world, happy to help whoever is willing to pay

This took me a few tries to get right. Tried chasing it a couple times. Realized I could N target it as soon as I load in so that it's targeted when it get out of the planet. Then several times of it just outright being vaporized after being focus fired. A few more rounds then of me hitting J to calm the goons down until it was soon enough for it to not catch one last round and blow the fuck up once again before I can land. Now off to deliver a bunch more of these tiny Rubik's Cubes.

After 25 hours in Wooden Ocean, I'm beginning to get a decent idea of what the fuck is going on. Pretty neat. I'm beginning to feel Educated.
I'm still doing fine in regard to enemies; aside from some random niggles here and there WHERE THE FUCK IS THE MEZRA KEY the interior of Wooden Ocean has been largely explored. Got the fast travel network rebooted and the Divine Tower working, cleared the Devil Woods, Undead Castle + lower dungeons, a bunch of other shit. 11 Demon Shards and 14 puzzle pieces.
I think next up will be doing some Ghost Ship stuff; I don't feel particularly motivated to travel the Ghost Road (and presumably advance the main quest) until I get my military power high enough to fuck up Wooden Edge.

I mean it's kinda of hard to make those sorts of decisions when you don't fully understand the world in the first place. While the librarian most likely does. At least mine, you don't exactly become Twice-Born without knowing your way around the supernatural. Then again I guess I completed multiple Cultist Simulator runs without fully understanding it either.
>>551620204
>Ummm...that is not where the prison is.
What the...
I guess I was thrown off by Gervinus van Lauren saying his seventh riddle (whatever that may be) "waits now in the cellar of the Gaol" so I assumed it is downstairs.
All the more reason to not go down there yet. Especially since my access points at the moment are scrambling down the well and a, presumably, hidden passage in the wine cellar.
>A second playthrough is going way faster, partially because of all the new features and partually because I was a retard for most of my first one and did not know how useful some weather cards were
I think for me it'll be the fact that I'm slowly figuring out crafting which I shied away at first. Or rather it seemed more complicated than it actually is, now I understand that the only thing that matters is which skill I use, while the crafting station just determines what cards I can input.
Also realizing I can use any lesson with matching aspect to upgrade a skill was a game changer and realizing I'm an idiot and I only need one lesson each time
>>
>>551620204
>>551624521
Oh also realizing the books have hints for crafting recipes was great.
I don't think I had much use for the hints the books had in Cultist Simulator, since I've figured most of that out by myself and didn't do much summoning, Beside, the work verb itself usually told you what you need to summon who, once you had a few cards in

the big problem is getting the WIN out of the room without making LEVEL is WEAK. otherwise the whole screen just dies.
And since they are all right up to the walls you can't really move them out of the way.
So step one is to open the door. by making either BABA or KEY YOU and HOT.
and then make the WALL is MELT and LEVEL is HOT and all the walls just explode letting you get around. Which I didn't realize I should try until i wrote everything down that didn't or wouldn't work.

Can't really say that baiting enemies around a corner and then exchanging blows on repeat (just hold M1 and chug potions) is very exciting, but at least the game's short enough to not suffer greatly from it.

Didn't have to do any grinding, with the first death around floor 13 - There's a strange gameplay option where you can start a new game with your character intact; and I heard item trading over multiplayer was very common?

I'm happy that at least some of the craftable higher level memories are persistent. I prefer to make them in advance and have them laying around for when I need them rather than having to scramble to craft them whenever the need arises.

Yes, it's good. Curious hunch is great, especially because moth/lantern are so poor in book memories, and you got one of the few skills that makes it.
In comparison enduring reflection is pretty meh. But 3 rose is 3 rose, and it's got three aspects so it's at least useful for leveling heart and knock skills too. Did you notice what the game tells you when crafting it?
Make sure to examine the workstations when you unlock them, some of them can allow more aspects more easily. If you have a second Fet, you can craft the upgrade of Enduring reflection at any of the shrines in the Solar church - they all take two elements of the soul and several are Rose compatible, so double Fet + Enduring + Preliminal + A rose 2 memory hits 15, which is the last threshold for crafts.
>>
>>551696774
How about forcing children into prostitution? The third target does that.
>>
>>551697708
Nevermind. It can always get worse...
>>
>>551697956
If it's any consolation. The game doesn't dwell on that aspect much. The guy cares more about making money and his palace focuses on his greed. It's just that he does it by exploiting others including children.
>>
>>551697615
>But 3 rose is 3 rose
Yeah, especially since usually my bottleneck is finding n memories with one of two aspects for leveling up a skill. I had to even burn two lessons for a few of my upgrades. Which isn't the end of the world, considering I keep hearing about how salons give you infinite lessons, but still feels like a waste
>Did you notice what the game tells you when crafting it?
Nope, need to pay attention to that next time.
I do read item descriptions a lot, but I keep forgetting to check if there is any special text when crafting
>>
>>551697615
>>551700352
Also since I'm getting more into crafting now, I'm very glad the books give you hints. The 10 power recipes are often somewhat guessable (except when there is one of some element that doesn't match the skill) but the 15 power is borderline impossible. I lucked into getting one for Inks of Revelation by chance but I think that's the only one I know so far (except from some I've read about but haven't tried yet)

Reading the crafting menu will take you a very long way, but you WILL need to take notes pretty quickly.

Two more tips that are not spoilers but I managed to miss and they're not insignificant:
You can harvest from the gardens, including the beehive and vegetables. I managed to miss that entirely for my first two playthroughs, which is pretty sad because now that cooking is in it's the source of the only non purchasable sky beverage, which some visitors have a preference for.
You should use talk/consider on each beast/item you can craft at least once to see what happens, especially if they look useless, because sometimes they're not.
Some crafts are legitimately scams though.

>but you WILL need to take notes pretty quickly
Yeah at the moment I just scribble down all craft-able memories I know and where to get them from.
I haven't crafted many items yet, but especially for the higher level ones that require a whole chain of components I've written down the "path" to get them from nothing but my skill and elements of the soul.
Maybe I'll reorganize that at some point once I have a better picture of what I want to keep track of
>spoiler
luckily I've noticed about the gardens. Just unlocked them yesterday I think. Though on the topic of cooking. Does picrel imply that that's the only dish I can make with that item, or will I see more option if I add more items/skills?
>talk/consider
I think the only non-visitor/assistance entity I've talked to so far was one of the chickens. Now it's angry though and I'm not sure which cheap item I can feed it, but I'll figure it out. As for considering, I do it whenever I have an element left that has no other purpose at the moment, though to be honest I've been mainly using it on the busts to figure out their order and on a few statues/artworks that look like they might give me some lore info
>>
>>551703103
Cooking, like crafting, is pretty deterministic. There are maybe two or three recipes where you get to pick what outcome you want. I gleaned most of it from reading the ingredients text, but a lot of it requires flour to make dough, which you can only order.
Chicken will tell you what they want if you click on the empty slot in the talk verb while it goes
>Cluck. CLUCK.
At you asking for food. They'll eat the whole vegetables bag you got there, for example.
You should consider these too.

I know solo development is difficult but most of the major functions of the game seem ironed out already and it's not like it needs VAs or anything. Add 5 more levels with the caliber of the first one and you've got a 9/10 already. There are items like the scoped rifle in the gas station that are basically useless on that level but could be amazing on others, Stronghold has a whole set of unique enemies for the medieval theme, there's already a currency system and everything that would let you buy upgrades like Thief, c'mon man there's SO MUCH to the game but so little to use it on.
Fennel and Sigg are so cute together too

I went in blind on Hard and am doing fine after 40ish hours. The game definitely has some bits that will fuck you up, but there's almost always a way around or something else to explore Except Infinite Grooty. If you see people talking about Infinite Grooty, turn the fuck around. I would advise against picking Silicon as an element, as I haven't gotten a whole lot of mileage out of it. Fire has been nice, though. Holy would probably be a good choice.
That said, the game has plenty of opportunities to cover gaps in your elemental damage/resistances. Don't stress about it too much.
The plot is great. Don't read anything about it. Figuring things out from the little tidbits the game leaves laying around has been a great experience.

Not just re-reading. You can do the first reading and identify unknown books too. I pretty much only read at desks.
You can also use malaised soul cards on them, so you don't use up regular souls and add inks if you need more aspects.

i would assume it's mostly the same between switch and PC and the discount also seems about the same currently.
Controller support also works great on PC so i don't see this not play well on switch.
So i guess the question is if you have a steam deck or not and really want the option for playing on the go?

You could unironically do this in game too, rome was janky af. Hoplites or any unit that could do spearwall were super cheesy to use, like a killbox in front of a gate and you could easily grind them to dust because they would rush inside right into the spears and their AI would shit themselves.

Also made me realize that the total war ai just copy paste your moves as a player, because I used to cheese enemies formation by spamming the move order and the units would force the enemy to spread out, and the AI started to use that tactics which was making the engine shit itself because it would do like 30 move order per seconds

I'm sure this is true, but why use Magic to stab something when I can just stab it with my cool sword or whatever? Silicosis is fine, I guess; mostly the only thing I regularly do with it is Silicon Wall, but mass damage reduction is something a lot of elements get. I usually prefer to use that mp on mass fire armor so I can stab things harder.

The correct statement is:
>"For the Night is dark and full of terrors."
Its used to justify why the Followers of R'hllor do what they do. It's not something you just state, it akin to their "Amen" or "It is what it is.". It's their reason for the season. Also Night is capitalized because they aren't referencing the normal, everyday night. They are referencing their Doomsday, their End Times, The Long Night.
But of course people who jerk off and just watch the TV show and don't read the books think its just a cool little thing to say and strip it of its fantasy religious connotations that make it so bad ass to say in the first place where you decided to make camp for the night instead of marching through the dark of night because "the Night is dark and full of terrors".

It's a weird mental illness, they make games that cater to "the male gaze" then bait and switch you just so they can laugh at you cause they hate you. Then they cry when their game doesn't do well, or isn't like, or something. They want to deny reality and will a new one into existence and no matter how hard they try they keep failing and their psych meds increase.

The funny thing that by denying the big titty women that were considered acceptable by western standards they cleared the way for Asia and as we know Asia has no qualms with producing things that make westerners seethe and worry about ages.
They should have just let us have the big tit, sexy woman and it wouldn't have left a gaping hole that Japan and China are now all to happy to rush and fill with depictions of women they they no doubt have more objections too

They do that specifically cause it grabs attention, makes you secrete more dopamine, and it actually is more likely to put you into a trance like state where you are more vulnerable to put in more money and/or continue playing. It's basically animal crossing but good + combat + rune factory elements. Love it. Comfy, simple grind. My only problem is it's extremely easy, like incredibly easy. Yeah. I can count on one hand how many survival games are fun solo. I think Vintage Story is one of the best, but because there's so much to do just to get a farm going, you go from one endeavour to another.
Meanwhile Return to Moria is probably the most atrocious I can think of. Return to Moria or Valheim. Conan Exiles was boring solo, but at least you had thralls to do what you can't.
I think Return to Moria even has the "wait for player to revive you" even if you're solo? I'm not sure.

BABA is LEVEL?
>>
>>551928868
I remember this one being a complete mindfuck
>>
>>551928868
Flag can't be win because flag is flag
>>
>>551929404
that is the goal(or rather level is baba).
The problem is as soon as you try to grab the BABA you push the IS into "LAVA is MORE and DEFEAT and STOP" so the lava starts spreading and killing you. Also you can't walk near the ghosts or you just cease.
so you have to block that all off somehow beforehand. Which is currently the part that gives me trouble.

>>551929446
My brain's too toast. i need some sleep for this lmao.

>>551930064
nah. X is X doesn't stop that. FLAG is FLAG just stops me from doing FLAG is TEXT. you can still attach words to them with a solid background.
you can in fact simply grab the flag and win the stage. the problem is winning the stage does nothing on the stage select so you have to do some shenanigans that manipulate the level tile instead.
>>
>>551928868
>>551929404
>baba is taxed
>taxed is more and stop
>text is empty

You need to help baba file taxes, anon.

>the lava starts spreading
Oh, that's what "more" does.
Yeah, sorry, I give up. The belt definitely has something to do with this, but I'm lost.

I felt like finally giving backpack hero a go but reading the reviews they say the game sucks now and that the balance updates ruined the game
Is this true?

Almost done with the busts in the staircase, gotta say this little riddle was a lot of fun.
Unfortunately I don't have the patience to consider every item and read every single description, but I assume there is loads of little snippets of information hidden out there. It'll probably slowly settle into place in subsequent playthroughs, like it did with CultSim
>>
anyone else think ball x pit didn't know what it wanted to do?
all of the item combinations feel like pants. like combining the 3x3 aoe ball with the line aoe ball doesn't create a 3 wide line? and all but ~5 or so passives were useless. the dev was scared of the player getting too powerful in the actual game part.

it felt like they just wanted the players to focus on grinding out town upgrades and getting strong via pure stats - the gameplay was an afterthought.

Please. If any of you are gamedevs or aspiring game devs, ditch the boss fight crutch. It's soooooo fucking played out. I'm playing Environmental Station Alpha and these faggot ass boss fights are so tedious. I've been playing the same sloppy Simon Says simulators for three decades. Rain World should have caused a revolution in the inde game scene. Everyone should have had No Boss Fight Clarity after playing it. Shit has me so frustrated I'm borderline gonna make a god damn youtube video essay on it.

I feel the same on some other topics, but I suck at writing and recording scripts. NO idea how to tie my thoughts together or make them into a wider point.
I even just started writing a few times but it never materializes
>>
>>551954702
Just look up resources on how to write a college essay - persuasive or informative. That's literally all these YouTube guys are doing.
>>
>>551953106
ESA is a masterclass in metroidvania fun boss design, you are just a fucking shitter

>implying their scripts arent genned sloppa
Get on with the times, gramps.
>>
>>551954702
I've written a few scripts and even got 1/3 into production of one but i couldn't finish because of issues related to VA and due to getting sick. Writing is actually the most fun part of the process, everything else is very tedious.
>>
>>551955524
Peep the review ratio on steam and see what they don't like about the game. Turns out most people don't play Metroidvanias for Dark Souls 3 tier slop fights.
>>
>>551955278
Fair enough.
I majored in STEM so all of the papers I've written are dry and boring and not quite what I'd want to do for fun
>>551955972
I personally love video editing. Finding fitting gameplay and doing fancy match cuts is something I could to all day, but I rarely ever get to that part of production.
>>
>>551956014
>if a boss fight takes more than your first attempt to beat it's a "Dark Souls 3 tier slop fights"
Christ, how do retards like you even get into videogames?
The game has like 1 tricky boss fight that might take you like 5 attempts

Most reviews complain about the exploration and the controls btw(they are retarded)

>Environmental Station Alpha
It's not the boss fights that are making it a tedious and bad game, it's that it's a tedious and bad game in general - bosses or not. I'm still mad at that game, no redeeming qualities.
