I really like the way the more conventional shotos and a couple other characters play in Granblue but literally half the characters in the game I never ever want to play a match against. It's really fucking weird because it has some kuso system mechanics but it's simultaneously the characters that make me like and hate it. So I can go one night and it seems like a perfectly decent game and then try another night and there is absolutely nothing enjoyable in sight, just fucked up super armor nonsense, absurd neutral skips, and projectiles yours don't counter.

The sex appeal is cool but previous DOA had more marketing based on showing the other cool stuff like cool moves, animations, stage interactions, unique modes, that kind of stuff. However it also need to be said that DOA6's mistakes was not just the debacle around "core values", another problem it had is that it came out way too soon after DOA5's last update but looked the same with minor differences and way less content. DOA5 got its last characters in 2016 and reached a total of 36 characters (it still received some updates in 2017 but no new characters). DOA6 then launched in 2019, only 3 years later, with only 24 characters at launch, way less costumes, same character models with minor shader differences, way less stages, less modes, etc. Sure there were some mechanical differences but the absurd amount of content loss was stupid for how similar the game looked and how soon after the previous game it was. Also the two new characters were not popular at all and the first 3 DLC characters were all characters that were already in DOA5, including Mai as a guest character (this is the first and only time I've seen a fighting game use the same guest character as DLC 2 games in a row). The game got 7 DLC characters in total and every single one of them was female and only 2 of them were actually new, the rest were all in DOA5.
All DOA 6 had to do was continue to pump out new costumes that were sexy and cool and not just generic themed sets for all characters. Look at the selection of costumes for doa 5 compared to doa 6. 5 had costume sets but also lots of unique outfits for each girl that really stand out. Fighting games live off of dlc characters and costumes people actually want. Then a balance patch here or there. Not some timmy ass shenmue mode or fortnite stickers and emotes. How the hell did these companies forget something so basic?
