What IS Sonic? What IS a Sonic story? What IS the world of Sonic? On a conceptual level, who is the character of Sonic and what is he actually about?Many of us may know exactly what the answer to these questions are "supposed to be", but the problem is that "supposed to be" and "actually are" are not in-sync. "Sonic the Hedgehog" as he was originally conceptualized and even still portrayed consistently pretty much doesn't exist for a large portion of the world and that's purely because Sonic himself as a character has never been properly established anywhere in the game canon itself.Like, comparing Sonic to any other static paragon symbol, they all still have some defined root or essence that's clearly visible and understood. That makes them a "fairy tale". But Sonic doesn't have that. What he had originally was largely forgotten or kept under wraps so tightly that the vast majority doesn't even know it, and it was never replaced with anything substantial either. The real reason many people could be attached to SatAM or Archie or Underground or even the 1992 Shogakukan manga is because they're the closest things any of us have to "Sonic's origin".At the end of the day, we NEED Sonic's origin. At least the idea of it, properly conveyed on screen for us to actually see and resonate with. The actual root of Sonic's own existence needs to be properly established to the audience in-game. If he's meant to be mysterious and enigmatic, then actually convey that! Actually showcase and establish the concept of Sonic in a way that everyone can actually understand with their own ways without getting angry at me for copy-pasting what's stated in a bazillion profiles or described by Japanese developers in this one interview or website!!!The entire game canon just dove right into having Sonic be this mysterious figure showing up and changing people's lives, but they forgot to actually tell us what "Sonic" even IS!!!

The thing many people don't get about Super transformations is that they aren't like DBZ. They're not just there to be a cool energy boost. It has to mean something when it happens.

The core problem with Sonic Prime's entire story and premise and writing is that Nine is just a deeper exploration on who Tails fundamentally is, but "Sonic" DOES NOT EXIST IN THE SHOW AT ALL. ANYWHERE. Nine is just Tails' origin story, amplified. But "Sonic" never shows up. Because Sonic does not exist in this show. Period. So when "Prime" Sonic meets Nine, and interacts with him throughout the entire story, the core premise of how Sonic & Tails even met in the first place is completely lost. Because Prime-Sonic does things that the PRIME Sonic never would, the way he interacts with Nine is fundamentally different from how the actual Sonic would. Nine himself is almost perfect at his core, but his actions become a response to the absolute travesty that is Sonic Prime's terrible portrayal of Sonic. Sonic Prime is like the ONE Sonic media since Unleashed that actually captures the core essence of Tails properly, and it's ruined by-proxy of SONIC being ruined so much that the very foundation of WHY Sonic and Tails are even friends is completely lost. The entire reason why Sonic and Nine had a falling out is because Sonic projected Tails onto Nine and just expected him to go along with everything, acting like he's literally just Tails as always. The real Sonic would not have this problem at all. He would have accepted Nine as his own separate being right from the start, and respected that individuality. This would have then had the effect of actually allowing Nine to see Sonic in the same light Tails did originally, and form that natural bond over time all over time. There basically would have been no real issue in the end. But heck, maybe the very premise of Sonic Prime's own story wouldn't exist if Sonic was actually Sonic. It just frustrates me how cool of a concept Nine is, only to be wasted on that absolute travesty of a Sonic show.
