In exchange you're creatively locked into already made characters/world and will run into problems if you want to fully monetize in the future.Earlier this year I was planning on making a taimanin game with deck builder combat, but just settled on being taimanin inspired instead of using their characters. Was fun while between jobs, but it also made me see why these things get abandoned. The uncertainty of it being worthwhile is easily enough to kill motivation. And thats me whining while also jumping over alot of the hurdles with AI, I cant even imagine the determination other one man devs have, to make a leap of faith and commit serious hours or even their own money into the making of a fan game.
