I think it has to be the first option. If it was the second option, then lab 0 would always just be better because forbidden cards are busted (until we get more seasonal chaos, but it would generally invalidate OG chaos).
Thinking about it further, I think that always having the current season + 1 selected previous season is fine for savedata chaos, but then they can have all seasonal mechanics at random in the uber chaos mode we get in march where you run it for the savedata editing tickets and don't actually get savedata.

You're going to be gated by captain level for a while, you want to get up to 35 or 40 ASAP. I would recommend recharging stamina with crystals 2/8 times daily at least (stamina = captain exp) and spend all tears of god ASAP. Also make sure to do trauma codes, first time clear rewards for chaos, battle missions, and the growth missions. Don't do simulation for memory fragments besides for the growth mission, only get them from T8+ in the event chaos or level 76+ in zero system.

You will very likely need a healer for Chaos, Mika is insane and her E2 makes you practically immortal unless you run into Vagina or dogfucker without a way to quickly kill them.
Not to mention most DPS are AP hogs and having more than 1 or 2 on the team will brick your hands.
Rei can also function as a slightly less potent healer but in favor of more buffs for your attackers.

Here's the thing: even if you can do it, Lab0 is the one with all the neutral cards and equipments for S1. Even if you use a tunnel in bug planet the shop won't sell you the S1 neutrals (like Confiscation) or S1 equipment like the manipulator (BiS on Mei Lin right now for example).

So overall I think that the tunnel will disappear from all base Chaos to be replaced with the S2 equivalent unless they decide to rework how the tunnel works in base Chaos. Like, entering makes S1 equipment and cards appear.
But then why would you run Lab0 ever? Hence why I think it won't happen.

If you're trying to farm for rift you probably want to unlock the specific items that are good for rift. I see a lot of people using the armor from lv30 chaos 3, and if you plan to use Nia with Sereniel you'll probably want dimensional cube unlocked as well. Some of the other stuff is also quite good (reorganize from chaos 5, I didn't get the final item though).

The hit count mechanic was a scaling one. It's true that at the start of the fight many teams could hit it, but as the boss got more memory stacks, you actually needed unreasonably high numbers. You still would struggle with scoring without TCM, but the hit count was another mechanic that existed to help that team.
