So apparently 343 totally fucked the MCC with the reach update some 5 years ago and just never fixed it?At the parents' for christmas and dads got my old xbox one x hooked up to the TV. Thought we'd get MCC and play through the classic halos for old times sake. It runs like absolute dead donkey ass. Apparently, the MCC ran totally fine on even the xbox one s on release, with the anniversary editions hitting a locked 60fps especially on the one x, but then, for some reason, after the reach update the performance got totally nuked and just never got fixed.What the actual fuck? H2 anniversay and CE anniversary run literally sub 20fps for huge portions of the game in split screen. How is this acceptable? How did they fuck it up this much with a single update and then never fix it again?Did they do it on purpose to 'encourage' people to upgrade to the series s and x? I don't understand it. Yeah they've had a lick of paint but these are games that ran on the og xbox and they're running like dogshit on a console that plays Red Dead Redemption 2 at a native 4k at a mostly locked 30fps and here we are on the bigger CE levels getting like 15fps. Someone should have sued these fuckers. Thankfully the classic graphics modes work okay but the menus are also shit so changing anything is a pain in the ass. Also having to redo control settings every time. Just a terrible product in general.

I liked it being locked behind your rank originally. So, playing through MCC in order. Just finished halo 2 anniversary and didn't particularly enjoy it.Halo CE was pretty solid, pretty simple and obviously a lot of levels have you getting spun round in identical looking complexes fighting the same enemy over and over but it never goes on too long before things move on. Way less open area stuff than I remember, which is improved on in 2 but, apart from a few stand out levels, halo 2 is way too heavy on the elite sections, alien weapons and just getting out into corridor after corridor with tanky brutes with nothing but plasma rifles, or a carbine if you're lucky. It got old way before the end. That ending too? What a stinker. No grand finale or epic battle, you just get a really underwhelming boss fight and that's it.It's okay though because halo 3 is next and I'm sure it's as good as I remember. They perfected the blend between large open areas, vehicular combat and periodic infantry sections and iirc you get a lot more choice in weapons so you don't get stuck with slow ass weak plasma guns for 80% of the game. I am looking forward to it.

In hindsight it's a bit sad how the Assault Rifle isn't very good or at least inferior to the BR, DMR, etc for most games. No reason to use the cover art gun besides mowing small flood in CE.
