just finished iceborne for the first time. i played world back in 2020 but i didn't think it was that fun, Rise clicked with me way more.so people hate the clutch claw because it's a prototype of wyvern riding, right? you can steer monster into a wall for a free knockdown. Most of the time when they did the clutch claw stagger i wouldn't even think to use it and just tried to get a charged big bang off instead. They only extended wound duration with the fatty patch while adding a jewel that made it easier for light weapons. I don't mind the claw as much as others do but the wallbang was too good and the wounding should have been just part breaker damage.

You can break both his front claws to topple him and you can break the head twice as well. You can cut the tail but it's kind of a pain because he moves his tail a lot. Just stay in front of him and to the left for the most part unless you're trying to cut the tail. When he digs and resurfaces at the other side of the arena he's about to do his one shot super roar so gtfo of the way. Don't be near him when he gets up on his hind legs because he's either about to body slam or roar lock you. Watch out for the lava spouts he causes with his roar and when he digs. They give you a hint as to where he's going to resurface. Anyway that's about it.

In case you'd go attack focus and don't want 4xatk you can go 3xatk 1xaffinity and sharpness which will result in one more raw compared to ele focus but you lose the ele damage. If you're exotic you can run 1xSharpness 2xAtk and 2xEle on Ele focused SA.

With Gore2+AV3, MM3, WEX but without wound and AGI5 you reach exactly 100% affinity on ele focus. It's just numbers crunching on autism level cause the difference between ele and atk focus is very small. I originally went for atk focus as well but changed it via mod to ele focus cause it's like 0.1% better on everything I play except IG cause ele absolutely sucks there.

On top of it all they made moves way slower, took out the good switch combo, made switching slower (even with rapid morph), and took away axe mode phials. I would recommend the ICE mod if any of you want to give Iceborne a replay. It has some issues of its own but making the clutch claw fully optional weighs those out in my opinion. Wyvern riding was also kind of terrible and robotic feeling, but that's a whole other topic.

There is no good reason for the stumbling to your feet animation leaving you vulnerable for as many frames as the initial dive provides as invlunerability. Yes, you're fucked if you aren't sheathed and don't have evade extender or a special way to mitigate with your weapon class.
