>>552050497The base problem is that all the models are doing, in very simplified terms, is averaging the most logical next token based on the stuff it's seen before. There's really not a good way, presently, to get the granularity to make things react in subtle or interesting ways over the long haul. Especially over the long haul, really. The best we have found to do is make larger models which allow for smaller and more nuanced ruts for the weighs to average themselves into.It's why when a character has been a bitch for 50 messages, trying to make her change her attitude is hard because the model looks at the context and sees "Hey! We've been using these tokens a lot and we should continue using them because, mathematically, they are the bulk of our context window for impact."We do get a bit of steering because first and last tokens tend to carry a bit more weight, but without the ability to really strongly steer like with CFG or similar tools, there's nothing to be done. And CFG isn't happening on our current models because it's too slow. And the current feed forward setup is pretty much at its limits. I'd love to be wrong, but nothing has really changed in a while. The training has gotten a bit better, but it's still pretty much as good as it's likely to get without new techniques.
