I think a reason why I never thought too much about Gaiamon like most fans is that it never felt as impressive as it's talked about it.Many Digimon did what Snatchmon wanted and more, but only Gaiamon gets this treatment from fans as "A Digimon so powerful it can never exist".Like, the plot of "let's turn the the world into data/absorb it" has been done a bunch of times by many Digimon villains, even on a much bigger scale than what World 3 implied about Gaiamon, but the end result never got as much hype as Gaiamon... even though it never became real.I think that it's a result of Gaiamon never being finished in World 3, so fans can always idealize something much grander than what happened in other Digimon works, as even though theoretically something equal or bigger happened, it still happened and was defeated.

i have the delusional theory that liberator is actually set in the same universe as DW3, thats why unchained knows about gaiamon and there are so many DW3 references in it. Digimon online was also just a game in DW like liberator and cross conectia are. Both games have the full dive stuff as well (DW3 machine was cooler tho). Liberator ending will be a segue to announce DW3 remake with extra content related to liberators and story gameplay.

It kinda annoys me how with this franchise the anime depction and especially the INITIAL anime depiction is always seens as definitive in the minds of fans. Taomon/Doumon are going to forever be branded as feminine no matter how many new male voices they are given. And the animes got the idea of "canon" lines stuck in people's heads. Garudamon is widely seen as the next stage for birdramon and not aquilamon. and the genderbending portrayal definitely hurt garudamon's overall popularity. though it mgiht have also been more popular if they decided to give garudamon boobs.
