so I was playing wulfhart, and it’s actually crazy how weak he is compared to the newer lords. I’m convinced beating masque/Skulltaker in battle is impossible with early archer stacks, and that masque especially perfectly counters empire. Her stacks are half daemonette, half furies, and the furies completely shut down the archers. It’s not like you have a choice early game, it’s either archers or spearmen, both of which are perfectly countered by demon melee and furies. If it wasn’t for autoresolve, the Markus campaign would be impossible. I got two shit stacks together and auto resolved every fight, because actually fighting masque or Skulltaker early game in manual is literally impossible

it would have been impossible if I had controlled large army, but forcing them to funnel in one at a time allowed me to kite them around and gave my reinforcements some space. eventually after running the archers around to the ends of the map and keeping my army on the field just for the balance of power, ran them back to my heroes and managed to use them as a final anvil while my reinforcement archers finished off the last of the chaos warriors. that was easily one of the hardest battles I've ever fought.
