Learn to pick your fights, don't hesitate to run away and don't reload unless you die, any fight you survive makes you stronger. Building an outpost will attract trader caravans and hostile raids. Building one too early might be more than you can handle. Pressing F1 will open the tutorial screen. Mousing over the stats screen and HUD will reveal useful tooltips and additional info. If the enemies feel too difficult - get crossbows for your units. And don't be afraid of the RP autism - engage in it whenever you can. And do unlock the sliders.

Multiple world overhauls loaded in, and I loaded my savegame.

We've got... Living World, Universal Wasteland Expansion, Equinox Overhaul, Reactive World, and various patches so that they are supposed to get along with each other.

Right away, The Holy Nation is back. This wasn't a new playthrough, so I can't be too shocked that something inserted them.

There are giant crabs in the Holy Land. Not in the middle of my camp, yet. Hopefully never.

HERE IS WHAT IS UNFORGIVABLE. They slowed down the scout legs. Not sure which mod did this. Is the creator of it just anti-fun? I will have to find a way to reverse this change.

So I ran Stumpy home, and on the way the game announced that there was some kind of farmers revenge on the way. This is at the back of two Berserker raid attempts.

So I looked at the map, and I saw some white dots both north of the base, and approaching from the south. When I ran Stumpy out to scout around, both groups weren't farmers. They were some kind of "Bounty Hunters" group. The one up north was basically just standing around. So, clearly these are like slavers, ready for the attack so they can pick off the fallen. I had Stumpy knock them out and strip their armor and weapons away.

With the world full of new surprising things, and my inventory crammed full of building material, I decided to just go ahead and start building some walls. I can't completely fence in the valley, but maybe I can close off enough that invaders will have to change their path.

I saw another white dot on the map, to the west, and sent Stumpy over the check on it. She passed a herd some kind of new animal called a Paracer. It was quite large. My first thought was "is this edible?". But it can't have been the source of the white dot. So, just over the ridge, maybe 50-ish Rebel Farmers, the kind you see way out in the deserts. And following them was another group of Bounty Hunters.

We were outnumbered, so I didn't know what to expect. As it turned out, the farmers were somewhat feeble. None of my people fell. Also, at some point they started to attack the Paracers, who fought back against the farmers. The battle was really quite short, all things considered. None of my crew fell. Farmer massacre. A couple of young Paracers seem to have died in the battle.

I had previously thought about hunting the Paracers, but this herd earned my pardon, and received first aid from Stumpy.
I did harvest the meat from the dead Paracers, which some of which was kinda funny... and then some River Raptors wandered through. Larger and more colorful than normal, and they had a wider variety of weird rancid meat.

I was sorting through the unusual new meats, I checked on the kitchen, and found that the 5 barrels of raw meat I had previously, were empty. From the evidence is seems that some chucklhead moved the ingredient meat supply to the output finished food barrel. One of these mods introduced a lot of new meat types, and a lot of new foods, and... I guess my kitchen automation still works, but now I have a lot of meats that I don't know if are usable at all, and they certainly don't fit into the workflow that I have. How extensive the kitchen will have to be redesigned?

Forget Mogwai's work. Goes around threatening anyone who reposts it. Atlas and Genesis encourage this behavior. The only thing anyone can do at this point is rebrand, recreate and decouple from Mogwai and anyone who willingly associates with the Genesis clique. Actual narcissism. It's closer to occasionally encountering someone who purposefully walks their dog by your place and leaves the shit on the lawn but will swear to the end's of the earth they're being harassed when asked to pick it up. Seems like Equinox is probably the main offender. Life might be easier without it. There's a part of me that is tempted to just push through the complications, because vanilla really does have a quite small set of edibles. There is maybe more variety now than I know what to do with, but maybe that means accepting fashionable redundancies rather than seeing it as a barrier to finding what is optimal. Equinox truly isn't intended to stack with the others, even though I have, and it hasn't crash yet because of it. It's basically loaded before all the others.

The food is not insurmountable. It just complicates the automation. I would really like to just use the stuff, but every new viable ingredient potentially doubles the number of stoves to add to the automation queue. But I can just give up hunting and they can live on the vanilla foods, or I burn through the extra meats in some un-optimized way. If a single stove was capable of holding a static crafting queue based on ingredient availability, kinda like the regular character task queue, it wouldn't be an issue, but the game doesn't seem to support that.

I don't like the idea of downloading custom robot leg mods, if only because the upgraded stats seemed a bit cheaty compared to vanilla. Suddenly they seem attractive as a way to return to something closer to vanilla.

It's the bell curve of playstyles. The vast majority of people will default into treating Kenshi as an auto-battler. The game has an easy route for optimizing away difficult by just stacking numbers (stats and manpower) or cheesing (Crossbow R-toggling & assassinations). Micro management and strategy are a lot more work than the alternative of overwhelming numbers.

That spot is right on the edge of the high bonefields, I didn't get swarmed or anything. You do have to get it up and running pretty quickly since it's between spiders and gutters, and certainly with more than ten donuts.
Fantastic farming spot though, it's similar to the Shem/Swamp border with Swamp/Arid fertility and the added bonus of acid rain for defense if the gate is on the forest side. It's a quick run to the Lagoon for hash and not too far from South UC for Sake runs.
This is my Holy Sword run, so my settle spots were limited. I wouldn't have considered it otherwise but we *are* outlaws.

Yeah, I gave it a go, and I'm pretty much going to strip it back down to just Reactive World alone.
I saw some other mods about expanding the hive and the cannibals, and maybe I will see what those have to offer if stacked on Reactive World.

While testing ways to compensate for the debuffs of the multi-set I tried some mod robot limbs. It's kinda addictive to travel around at 103mph. I'm not sure I can give this up, now that I've tasted it.

the only thing I'd like to change in kenshi is how the chat menu is. I'd preffer something like those semi-transparent overlays used in many other games, and be able to move it around and have it showing all the time, It's a pain in the ass when my donuts get suddenly attacked when it could be evaded by just talking to some dude, all because I was focusing on somewhere else, or didn't even see the npcs were talking.

There is a holy farm that frequently looses its farmers to river raptors. I'm a little curious how far someone could go just squatting there to live. I think it grows wheatgrass, but I don't remember it having a silo to turn it to flour. I swear the game is kinda full of places that are almost tutorials about what the player could build, but are just slightly incomplete so you won't simply kill the residents and move in.

I've sent people to that farm before to grow and harvest the crops, and being them back to seed my own farms. I'm reasonably convinced that's the true purpose of the farms.

I've seen mods about indoor wells and silos. It should make a house in a purchased location like that fully cooperative with automated tasks. It's a real pity that purchased houses don't have some kind of build range that let you put things out on the lawn.

if you go and start farming the wheat, then the npcs start saying the "raptor eating crops" dialogue, but you don't get any crime for doing it, also... sometimes the raptors get bounty on them while they eat the crops, and I run allt he way back to bring a downed one to claim the bounty some times, but it kind of expires really fast.

I didn't notice the raptor bounties. I always just harvest their innards. You can grind a lot of armor making skill just by spamming turning them into leather.

Given that the crops are outdoors, I don't think you can actually get in trouble for harvesting them. Unless they've been scripted specially? I usually harvest when nobody is around or looking, because my harvesting person has robot limbs. They're like a public well in a city, where it's always a 100% steal chance.

No, it's vanilla. One of the stations has just the singular purpose of turning animal hides into leather. 300 hides in and you are making consistent specialist armor/clothing with a chance for masterworks.

There is a mod out there to turn the foul meat into regular raw meat. It requires input time and water and electricity.

In my current play I've got about 30 characters, and I've managed to get a farm and a chef and some crafts people trained up and running on their queue of automated tasks. I feel like I'm at the point where i can go AFK and when I come back everyone is still alive. I built it partly just because the more characters i got the faster they ate all the food, and getting food was deleting all by earnings. So now that they farm, money means nothing, because I have both food and materials.

I'm curious now how productive that one or two characters by themselves could be without a large group, when given the right equipment and programmed to be left AFK. The one sticky part is fewer people to resist raids.

Never going to forgive people for the engine limitation lie. OGRE is and always was fine. It's a resource, manpower and code quality issue. Kenshi 2 will require hardware that is dramatically more expensive and the only gain will be graphical fidelity you can't decouple from. The underlying systems have never required Unreal to work but it will requires thousands upon thousands of dollars to render the massive sandbox they're building all for the sake of 4K Beepface. Did you really vote for hardware obsolescence?

Backed away to Living World and a patch for Living World that claims to have Reactive World wrapped into it. Animals appear back to normal. I don't see overlapping buildings. The fogmen are a bit further into holy territory than before, but not in a glitchy way.

So I sent Stumpy and Slink out to explore. Worlds End seemed normal enough.
I had them explore further north than I had before. When I saw a named town, I didn't expect it to be full of cannibals. So now they have some bounties, that I have to figure out what to do with. Gonna be a bit of a hike away.

I assume they are armored because I installed a Cannibal expansion. I also have a hive expansion installed, but I haven't seen the result yet.

It took suck a long time to "thunk" the group from behind, that they started to wake up and run to catch up with the pack. If they aren't all out at the same time, the attack isn't ended. However, Stumpy and Slink managed to disarm all of them except for one, so when they do reach the base, hopefully they will be easy pickings.

On the way abandoning the group, they happened upon a small group of Fogmen. For luls, lead them back to the cannibals. Hopefully this won't inspire them to pick the dropped weapons off the ground.

The Flotsam sent troops to aid us, and so did the Shek.
I also hired a group of human mercenaries.
Turns out we did alright without them, the help is kinda standing over there-ish off frame.

The Berserkers are on the march towards us again.
Seems like every day is a new attack.

Meanwhile, I don't know what the Flotsam did to upset the Shek, but they have been fighting. The Flotsam that came to help me are getting wrecked by the Shek that came to help me.

Many irons in the fire, I send Stumpy out to thunk and disarm the approaching Berserkers. This time, going to leave one of them normal. Maybe if they actually arrive, it will let them lose interest. But as long as she was in the area, I had her capture Ghost from the Berserker village and turn him in to the Shek. I wanted to be friends with the Berserkers, but they aren't leaving me with logical alternatives.

And I sent Slink to look at what is at a slave market. I don't really need more personnel, but I should see what the game function is about. Maybe if I bring something home, they can be used to dye clothing.

After having wrecked my protective Flotsam, the Shek that came to protect me announced that they had to go. This is just moments before the Berserkers arrived.

Fortunately, they Berserkers were naked and unarmed at this point, so their wish for suicide was coming true. They announced their wished just a few feet from the guards of Bad Teeth, and in front of some wandering warriors, so this was a momentary massacre.

Back when the cannibals attacked, the Flotsam were looting the bodies. Now the Shek are looting the bodies of the Flotsam. This Shek is wearing a Cannibal helmet.

This game has collected dust in my library for a long time and I had an unexplainable itch to play it. So I started in the great desert and picked up a rusty katana from some dead guy. Nice.

Half an hour later my arm got bitten off by sand spiders. Lessons learned about how to pick fights.

And lastly I thought I might have better chances in a group. So I scrounged up some skill 1 deadbeats and put down a shack and stone mine near the cost. That apparently caused various trader, slaver and bandit factions to slaughter each other almost every day while I leave my scrappy base to watch the carnage unfold.

It's fun.

Early in my run, I kept getting arrested and enslaved, and just about the time I felt like I developed the ability to escape at will anyhow, one of my people was getting carted off. I seriously thought about having a "ok see you later during the escape" approach to it, but then I saw some mercenaries, and just tried it on a whim. They cost probably half of the money I had on me. Made money in the operation, and walked away with piles of little backpacks.

Hivers are specialized. In general I'd favor the prince over the worker; the prince is slightly hardier in combat and gets boosts to all kinds on non-combat skills that make him handy to have around, great quick medics too. I get use out of workers as miners and farmers I can second to a big fight like ashigiru, with the hats and Polearms and everything. That being said they're hivers, you can get both and they'll only east as much as one guy. I'd go Princes for leaving the base and Workers within it, both make good ranged units but princes make good dex fighters as well.

More Flotsam walked past outside town, and the Shek wreck them. My people have been automatically healing while they get back up and fight again and again. The ones that don't lose limbs are grinding stats. I saw them laying in a bed to heal while Shek wailed on them.

It's basically Shek vs Flotsam war. My groups rep with both is at 100 because they are healing allies non-stop. I tried to drag them away to a distance, but the Shek followed and wreck them there too.

I guess everyone has their preferences, depending on if you want to build a base and so on. After a brand new start I recruited 5 other guys and it was hell to keep track of who is about to die or get enslaved where. I think I'll restart since I didn't get far anyway.

Just be sure to keep the bar owner alive. It they're knocked out, that's your chance to put some armor and weapons on them. Just don't let anyone see you remove any of their inventory or the faction will get mad at you.

For simple drifting, I think 2 is the best, easy to manage and it's much easier to stay alive than being solo. Then you can add more people slowly over time. If you're struggling with money and survival in the early game then try not to recruit too many Shek, they get hungry more quickly than other races

Just did a data transfer, had to dip back into the old comp to snag my Kenshi saves. They're all there and recovered, every donut accounted for, now on a much better performing comp. I've invested too much time into those saves to abandon them.

You are always welcome (and able) to sit down with the mod, make your own, find what you like in GenMod & merge/migrate it to a personalized version taking only what you like. You'll likely need to do a little massaging to re-implement some parts but an evening with the FCS has only taken out a few people over the years - you'll probably survive and have a nice clean personal mod to boot.

It makes me wonder wtf was intended with shop counters. I noticed all there mercs patrolling my base had 1 bread from when they first arrived but nothing ever sold after that, not even to caravans. I guess that's so persistent NPCs don't overload their inventory but then why are caravans so hard to coax inside? I tried some mods and moved into a city building with a new game but still can't figure it out. At least I can sell directly from storage to other merchants so it's just as low maintenance as moving it into a shop counter.. but I kinda just wanted to make a comfy bar

I noticed some buggy tech hunters in the hub getting stuck in the broken homes while "going shopping". But the problem with NPCs running out of money after a single purchase is still there

I wonder if it would be possible to make a growth mod where characters mature like animals from cubs to elders. Might require the replacement of every NPC with a custom race, and may result in some features being lost (like talking, trading etc.).

You guys know those slaver guys who hang out in The Borderzone and randomly enslave anyone unconcious? I got curious and intentionally let myself get enslaved by them just to see what they would do with me, and it turns out they don't just mull around waiting for you to escape.

It took like an hour of 3x speed, but eventually they brought my hiver guy all the way to Rebirth, which was really surprising. They didn't put me in a cage though, I had to break out of the group and actually imprison myself for it to work since they just stood outside the gates of Rebirth like bums. It was surprising either way.

These are the stats and gear my dude has after escaping slavery. My strat was to use martial arts to just beat the paladins since assassination sounded boring, then dispose their weapons when they were down. I power levelled strength for a while by piling shackles in my inventory as I worked, then fought at night if my health was good enough. It was a fun time.

First time visiting this thread, don't know why I haven't in the past. Figured I might as well share a little challenge ruleset I've been using for anyone else who wants to up the ante.

>1. You can't sell anything you haven't produced yourself. That means no looting guys and selling their gear and no selling items from ancient ruins. Anything you pilfer from ruins has to be used in crafting, which you can then sell.
>2. No stealing, stealth, or assassinations. You either buy or craft your own gear. The only exception is Meitou weapons, since they're unique and also fun to collect.
>3. No drug dealing. The days of running two feet to Flats Lagoon and making c.50,000 are over.
>4. No hiring mercs or luring bandits to gate guards.
>5. No water-gate nonsense. Not fair for the enemy to swim a mile through water while you shoot them.

I've been having a lot of fun with this ruleset, it really makes me think on how to make money, especially early game when I don't have a base. I have to scrounge around for random bounties or mine copper, and getting better gear is actually really hard since it's so expensive. I have a few economy mods and going from rags to riches is pretty satisfying when all I'm trading is homemade brew and rusty ass swords.
