I got in the mood for an Atelier game, and decided to replay Firis. Flussheim is a lot simpler to deal with when I know ahead of time that I need a ton of wood and ore.
Today is the last day of that really good sale on the Nintendo eshop that has a ton of Atelier games on sale. Yumia, Resleriana, Sophie 1 + 2, the whole Dusk trilogy DX pack and more are on for 20-50% off.

>>552475494Rorona is a pretty solid entry all-around. The soundtrack isn't quite one of my overall favorites, but I think it has my second-favorite workshop theme in the series, behind only Ayesha's. That's pretty significant, given how often you end up hearing it. I have both the original and the DX version of the song set as potential workshop themes in Firis right now.
I have 180 days left to prepare a selection of bombs capable of blowing up Sophie. Should be plenty.

100 days left to prepare for the showdown with Ilmeria and Sophie. I hadn't done much serious alchemy yet, so the time was needed. I have adequate equipment now, but I could use better bombs and healing items still. I don't remember exactly how tough Sophie is, but I don't think just some "extreme damage" ori bombs are going to cut it.I still find it funny that Sophie can go through everything she did in her game, go on some more adventures, and then potentially get obliterated in an alchemy duel by her apprentice that she spent a whole two weeks training.

So despite being hugely talented and a hard worker sometimes she doesn't always live up to her potential. I'm not surprised she gets bowled over by someone who's actually taking things seriously. It seems like it's a family thing, since her grandmother was apparently a pretty piss poor casual alchemist who literally gave away her atelier until Sophie got her to take it seriously.
Fun fact: Sophie has no ability to decline when someone asks her for something, so Plachta and Firis take it upon themselves to refuse in her place whenever a potential suitor asks Sophie on a date. She's also not very into romance novels, unlike her grandmother who adores them and was excited at the idea of finding her soulmate before she had her first date.
I may have gone overboard in my preparations for the exam in Firis. Firis is a whole lot more driven in general, and the exam in particular is hugely important to her, whereas it's a pretty minor objective to Sophie. Sophie barely even managed to arrive in time to take it, so it makes sense that her preparations were a bit half-assed and limited to whatever she had on hand at the time, as opposed to Firis spending months preparing advanced weaponry.

I really like the BGM replacer feature some of the DX versions of Atelier games have. The atelier and standard battle themes can get old after a while since they're played so frequently.

I had two quests right in a row that resulted in unexpected boss battles I wasn't prepared for, since I haven't upgraded anyone's equipment since the exam, but thankfully Firis was still able to win by herself easily. Shanon had 1 HP when Julio decided to test her abilities, so he cut her down instantly, and then Firis and Ilmeria incinerated him with two ori bombs, which apparently served as proof that Shanon has overcome her weaknesses.>Good job, Shanon. I finally got around to giving some other characters equipment that isn't random garbage, so Liane was able to land the finishing blow on her greatest enemy rather than Firis doing everything by herself again.That's probably my favorite of the character quests in Firis. It doesn't hurt that Liane is one of the only characters that actually receives a fair amount of development, along with Ilmeria and Firis herself.

I wish there weren't so many recipes in Firis that need dragon bloodstones. They're a bit too uncommon for something that's used so heavily, and killing the same few dragon mini-bosses over and over again gets old pretty quick. The higher level ones have a chance of dropping several, but they also still drop 0 sometimes. It really drags down the end-game, along with occasionally needing to sort through thousands of items and figure out what all to throw away to make room for new stuff.

Hello everyone, it's been a while...I see that this new thread is up but at times it's really active compared to other threads. Heh, I see that at least one person misses me but yeah, unless they announce a new Blue Reflection game this year (don't hold your breath), I don't really plan to keep posting here.Before I probably leave again, here's another fun fact though...Blue Reflection was the last game developed by Gust with ''Partial Nudity'' as one of its content descriptors, if one doesn't count re-releases or new versions of games that already exist, none of the games that have been released after the first Blue Reflection have that content descriptor, Nights of Azure 2, Atelier Lulua, the 3 Ryza games, both Fairy Tail games etc...all of them have fanservice, sure, but not what the ESRB considered partial nudity.Anyway, bye and take care.

It'd be nice to see Gust announce a new Blue Reflection, an Atelier in the style of the older entries, something Ar tonelico related, or something new and interesting, but I don't really expect to see any of that in the foreseeable future.
