I got in the mood for an Atelier game, and decided to replay Firis. Flussheim is a lot simpler to deal with when I know ahead of time that I need a ton of wood and ore.
Today is the last day of that really good sale on the Nintendo eshop that has a ton of Atelier games on sale. Yumia, Resleriana, Sophie 1 + 2, the whole Dusk trilogy DX pack and more are on for 20-50% off.
>>552436194Actually, looks like the sale already ended...
Anyone play the vita version of blue reflection? Is it alright or better to play on something else?
>>552454863I haven't tried it, but I've heard the Vita version has significantly worse visuals and performance. It would probably be best to go with the PS4 or PC versions if possible.
>>552454863I heard the Vita has some frame rate issues during combat that are pretty significant. …Also, why would you get it on Vita anyways? Even if you want handheld there are better options.
>>552456920>>552463975Alright thanks, I'll wait until I have something else that can play it>Also, why would you get it on Vita anywaysbecause I have a vita
>>552427926Silly lesbian couple.
I don't know anything about Rorona in fact I have only heard bad things about that series but the music is fantasticMuch better than Ryza's games
>>552475494>I have only heard bad things about that seriesWhere did you hear that?
>>552477385Here
>>552475494The characters are charming and the graphics are a lot simpler but the time management adds a different layer of interaction with the game.
>>552477831Wow that's surprisingI usually hear that mana khemia, arland, and ayesha are the best
>>552475494Rorona is a pretty solid entry all-around. The soundtrack isn't quite one of my overall favorites, but I think it has my second-favorite workshop theme in the series, behind only Ayesha's. That's pretty significant, given how often you end up hearing it. I have both the original and the DX version of the song set as potential workshop themes in Firis right now.
I have 180 days left to prepare a selection of bombs capable of blowing up Sophie. Should be plenty.
>>552498762>blowing up SophieWould
>>552498762So pies?
>>552454863It's on Vita? That's... intriguing.
>>552508117Firis wasn't taught by Rorona, so she doesn't know how to make pies. She makes hamburgers, a wide variety of explosives, and bomb-powered flying barrels she can ride around in while she imagines the hell she's going to unleash on her teacher and best friend.

>>552584701Liane just thinks it's important that everyone understand Firis' superiority.
When can we expect information on a new Atelier game? And if you had a choice, what would you want?
>>552594331Before the end of March when Koei Tecmo's Fiscal year ends at a Nintendo Direct or random trailer drop.>if you had a choice, what would you want?Gacha Resleriana's combat and battle design with alchemy/equipment/role swapping systems to complement it for a console game.
>>552599268>Gacha Resleriana's combat and battle designI'm surprised this wasn't what Rias' game was.
>>552594331>if you had a choice, what would you want?Atelier TotoFiris: the two great explorers of the series team up on an adventure to explore an uncharted frontier. Mimi and Ilmeria tag along to provide tsundere moral support. Totori and Firis build a customizable and upgradable mobile HQ with a crew of loyal chims, which steadily fills with recruitable characters over the course of the game as in Suikoden.Somewhat more seriously, this is what I like to see in the series:>Alchemy taking strong precedence over other RPG mechanics>Some sort of time management mechanic>A focus on exploration and freedom in approaching objectives over a focused narrative>A character-driven story in which the protagonist is trying to achieve a personal goal rather than reacting to some huge threat>Combat borrowing from Mana Khemia
100 days left to prepare for the showdown with Ilmeria and Sophie. I hadn't done much serious alchemy yet, so the time was needed. I have adequate equipment now, but I could use better bombs and healing items still. I don't remember exactly how tough Sophie is, but I don't think just some "extreme damage" ori bombs are going to cut it.I still find it funny that Sophie can go through everything she did in her game, go on some more adventures, and then potentially get obliterated in an alchemy duel by her apprentice that she spent a whole two weeks training.
>>552578025>A bowOh, she's an archer character, maybe a huntress? That's cool, I'd like to see how she uses it and how it improves through the game.
>>552612987Kiss.

>>552638243Sophie 2! Just because it’s good.
>>552612987Sophie canonically makes multiple philosopher’s stones, captures and moves souls and LITERALLY does things an actual goddess cannot achieve with the full scope of her divine power. She undoes the punishment the UNIVERSE ITSELF inflicted on a goddess.
>>552669194Damn, the power of Uni Juice!
>>552637263I like Liane's design, and her character in general in Firis. She gets flanderized pretty hard in Lydie and Suelle, though, and loses all of her personality traits other than being an insane Firis fangirl.>>552638243Ar tonelico 2. What better way to break in a new PC than emulating some old PS2 games?>>552669194And yet...she still had to take an exam to prove she was a competent alchemist, and was unprepared for Firis throwing a large bomb at her.
>>552677508Freakin' beautiful!
>>552680347
>>552684405Awwww!
>>552670258That Totori unsettles me.
>>552601278Same. I can understand the logic of making Rias's combat different since it was meant to run alongside the gacha but it's disappointing for me. I'll play RW eventually though.
>>552674437>>552612987Sophie is known as a huge space case and for being pretty lazy unless she is either motivated by her desire to help people or her mentor cracking the whip. So despite being hugely talented and a hard worker sometimes she doesn't always live up to her potential. I'm not surprised she gets bowled over by someone who's actually taking things seriously. It seems like it's a family thing, since her grandmother was apparently a pretty piss poor casual alchemist who literally gave away her atelier until Sophie got her to take it seriously.
Fun fact: Sophie has no ability to decline when someone asks her for something, so Plachta and Firis take it upon themselves to refuse in her place whenever a potential suitor asks Sophie on a date. She's also not very into romance novels, unlike her grandmother who adores them and was excited at the idea of finding her soulmate before she had her first date.
I may have gone overboard in my preparations for the exam in Firis. Everyone else is useless because I haven't bothered updating their equipment in forever, but Firis can take down dragons by herself.>>552709787Yeah, plot-wise, that is the one advantage Firis has over her. Firis is a whole lot more driven in general, and the exam in particular is hugely important to her, whereas it's a pretty minor objective to Sophie. Sophie barely even managed to arrive in time to take it, so it makes sense that her preparations were a bit half-assed and limited to whatever she had on hand at the time, as opposed to Firis spending months preparing advanced weaponry.
>>552712152Sophie making it all the way to the exam last minute, realizing she only has her regular everyday travelling self defense items in her bag and then having to take the exam entirely half assed is very in character for her.
I wanna post so much Sophie all of a sudden...

>>552804414https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lr4nfBw1_ow
>>552721125Apt pupil!
>>552778435This is absolutely true. Sophie gets herself in huge trouble in while helping out Rias in her game because she takes waaay too many requests to make people happy and winds up needing to be bailed out. And whenever anyone asks her out on a date she’ll say yes. Sophie will let you do wild things to her.
I really like the BGM replacer feature some of the DX versions of Atelier games have. The atelier and standard battle themes can get old after a while since they're played so frequently.

People are sure casual about Firis' ridiculous creations. She invents a steam-powered ironclad, and then a full-blown airship, and people largely just react with "ha ha, that's our Firis for you." Ren apparently didn't even think the ironclad was impressive enough to warrant a letter of recommendation.>>552958903Not to worry, I'm sure Tiffani will cheer herself up by molesting some innocent young girls later.
>>552959773>She invents a steam-powered ironclad, and then a full-blown airshipThat's our Firis, ha-ha!
I had two quests right in a row that resulted in unexpected boss battles I wasn't prepared for, since I haven't upgraded anyone's equipment since the exam, but thankfully Firis was still able to win by herself easily. Shanon had 1 HP when Julio decided to test her abilities, so he cut her down instantly, and then Firis and Ilmeria incinerated him with two ori bombs, which apparently served as proof that Shanon has overcome her weaknesses.>Good job, Shanon. You found a girl who is ready and willing to throw bombs at things for you, just like I did. You are now a true knight.

>>553146372This was the last time it went on sale. That gap between then and now is too big.

I finally got around to giving some other characters equipment that isn't random garbage, so Liane was able to land the finishing blow on her greatest enemy rather than Firis doing everything by herself again. That's probably my favorite of the character quests in Firis. It doesn't hurt that Liane is one of the only characters that actually receives a fair amount of development, along with Ilmeria and Firis herself.

There are several characters with above average breast sizes in the game, and this indicates that Hinako is one of them. This can also be seen on her character model, though certain other characters can be observed to be as larger or larger than her. This might include Chihiro, even though she is short. That's right, Chihiro is definitely a shortstack.

I wish there weren't so many recipes in Firis that need dragon bloodstones. They're a bit too uncommon for something that's used so heavily, and killing the same few dragon mini-bosses over and over again gets old pretty quick. The higher level ones have a chance of dropping several, but they also still drop 0 sometimes. It really drags down the end-game, along with occasionally needing to sort through thousands of items and figure out what all to throw away to make room for new stuff.

Hello everyone, it's been a while...I see that this new thread is up but at times it's really active compared to other threads. Heh, I see that at least one person misses me but yeah, unless they announce a new Blue Reflection game this year (don't hold your breath), I don't really plan to keep posting here. Before I probably leave again, here's another fun fact though...Blue Reflection was the last game developed by Gust with ''Partial Nudity'' as one of its content descriptors, if one doesn't count re-releases or new versions of games that already exist, none of the games that have been released after the first Blue Reflection have that content descriptor, Nights of Azure 2, Atelier Lulua, the 3 Ryza games, both Fairy Tail games etc...all of them have fanservice, sure, but not what the ESRB considered partial nudity.Anyway, bye and take care.
>>553363101*inactive.
So, more than 2 and half hours later, nothing...really? Oh well, whatever. If more than 3 hours pass after I make this post or the thread dies after this same post, then so be it I guess. I do wonder if someone saved other images of the underwear of Blue Reflection characters though.
>>553379672>>553363101This thread has been pretty dead just lately, and I'd pretty much given up on it just before your post.
It'd be nice to see Gust announce a new Blue Reflection, an Atelier in the style of the older entries, something Ar tonelico related, or something new and interesting, but I don't really expect to see any of that in the foreseeable future. I've enjoyed a lot of their games, but I don't follow them too closely or expect much from them these days.
The threads were comfy, but we ARE running out of steam. And if two new games didn't bring new people in... this general probably wasn't meant to be. We're trying harder than Gust themselves, honestly.
>>553405872Dammit, Neptunia fans and Senran Kagura fans somehow manage to keep each general alive, those franchises are in a worse state than Atelier and yet those threads never get archived before reaching 750 posts! It's as if they've already agreed that SOMEONE will always be there to post SOMETHING to bump the thread...you may be right, despite recent releases and more games to come, this general probably wasn't meant to be, two threads survived enough to get 750+ posts but that isn't necessarily going to happen again. Compile Heart fans and Senran Kagura fans are more dedicate I guess.
>>553407697>those franchises are in a worse stateAre you sure about that? I don't know about Neptunia, but Senran is a long-running coomer game, so naturally they have more things to post. Thingies, boobies.
I wish more games in the series were structured like Totori. Even the other Arland games are more rigid regarding what the player can do and when.>>553405872Given that it apparently sold well, I'm a little surprised no one has had much of anything to say about Yumia in these threads. Resleriana was discussed a fair bit early on, but outside of that Atelier discussion has centered around a few individuals playing Sophie 2, Firis, and Rorona. The thread has seemed to be more or less on life support for the past couple days, sadly. It's hard to drum up much real discussion when the thread topic is diverse enough that it includes multiple franchises but there are ~5 people posting. A lot of post topics might not get any response just because no one else in the thread has played the game, or they played it long enough ago that they don't remember it particularly well.
I say we all take a vacation.
See you in random /v/ threads!
But we only just got back together; It can't be over already!
I'll stick around so long as there's something going on other than bump-posts with no content.

Considering Yumia 2 is probably still a year away, what is Gust going to release this year? Feels like this year won't be a very eventful one
>>553446000I wouldn't rule out a Yumia 2 to release in the second half of the year since they can just build on the systems from the first game. They've managed to release at least one game a year since 1994 so there's surely something even if not Atelier/BR. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gust_(company)#Games
