Maekawa literally was using Spider-man references ("No food or movies, I'm outta here!" is a 90s spider-man reference. That cartoon aired in Japan to write Sonic's character. Sonic is completely stoic before Maekawa. He was only "unserious" compared to knuckles. Sonic doesn't even laugh at any point in 2000s the games aside from once in Shadow the Hedgehog and again in 06. Maekawa went against Yuji Naka's vision of the character. When people say Sonic isn't cocky, we should blame SA2, not just Archie or IDW.

I just rewatched the captain america movies to confirm this autism but he's literally just Sonic. He is a good guy and people assume he works for the government, but he turns against them as soon as they do something he doesn't like. He doesn't go through any character arcs, only become physically stronger and influencing those around him. He is always morally right. Every time he makes an assumption based on a hunch the story reveals he is right all along. The plot of the winter soldier is basically him vs the United States and then it turns out he was right, that's the same for Civil War too. He is a guy with perfect social skills who prefers to be by himself. He's a guy with perfect judgement who knew right from wrong since he was a kid. He's a world famous superhero who doesn't like to be called a hero. When asked why he does what he does he simply says "I don't want to hurt anyone, I just don't like bullies".He is fearless to the point that he thinks he can fight an entire army. He is so pure of heart that he can lift thor's hammer. The only thing that truly separates him from Sonic is that he evantually accepts that he has to slow down and goes back to be with Peggy.
