i have to say that they did an excellent job with making some of 4's levels very reminiscent of 1's levels, what with the massive underground rooms that haven't been opened for millennia and are therefore teeming with cobwebs and coated in dust to give it a forgotten feel, the rooms being so long that you see black draw distance fog before you see the end of the room and just the overall geometry that makes you actively think how to get from here to there. i really have to finish the game and i'm a little annoyed at myself for stopping because the game, up until where i stopped at cairo at least, was quite an experienceit really does feel like the last of the "classic" tomb-exploration style games

>>552940579as someone who has finished 3 and only played through the first half of the last revelation, as far as i can tell it's mainly a difficulty/annoying length issue. 3 is widely considered to be the most difficult in the series due to the abundance of beginner traps: e.g. you're walking through a tight corridor and without warning a boulder falls down from the ceiling and quickly rolls towards you, giving you a fraction of a second to respond or else you. there's also other frustrating stuff like the lack of direction as to where you have to go in some levels and some of the puzzles just use bizarre alien logic. so yeah, it's mainly difficulty and obtuse directionwith the last revelation, the difficulty oscillates a lot more. it's easy and then confusing, easy and then confusing, although i think on average it's a bit more easy to navigate compared to 3 but it's much longer. there is also a generally agreed upon drop in quality once you reach the halfway-ish point but at the same time it's easily the most similar to the first game in terms of the actual gameplay, setting and story

The gymnast animations are what really makes Lara Legend the absolute undisputed GOAT for me and I don't think I can ever be convinced otherwise. Lara MUST have gymnastic capabilities. Toby Gard himself concepted her, wrote her, and directed all her movements and cinematics. Her grace and style is unmatched and the motion captured movements in Underworld specifically still look incredible to this day. I also really, really love the story and the way Lara is deeply concerned for her mother and father across all three games, going to the depths of the Underworld literally all for her family. Her legacy and her namesake really means something, and she feels like a deeper, richer person who does what she does not only for the selfish pursuit of money and glory, but to literally become the Legend her father could only dream of....

Okay so thoughts. I both hate and love this game now, after beating it. This is both far and away the best, and the worst of the trilogy.What the fuck exactly happened? Obviously they ran out out of time. Everything really shits the bed at the end, story is really unfinished. Short ass Croft manor level was when I got suspicious, super good but then instantly over. Mexico is fun but uses the motorcycle as a crutch to pad it out and it's obvious. Then Nifelheim used the bike again as a crutch through all those tunnels and it just sucks, although I do really appreciate the idea of the bike. They use that same boat area again and it's over in 5 minutes and while it was fun to blast dudes off the ship with Mjolnir, it's again obvious that they are rushed for time to end the game. Helheim under the ice is just fucking amazing, but then that final Yggdrasil area was fucking awful....you get peak and then you get slop over and over.No final boss? No fight with the doppelganger Lara? The gameplay is so good but then...it's just abruptly over. So close to being seriously legit amazing, just needed a little bit more going on. Same is true for each of these games really. More time in the oven and some more content would have saved it. And with a finale that's clearly unfinished and rushed, it's a damn shame. This is the best Lara ever and she deserved a better send off.Underworld would and should be an easy 9/10 if it was properly finished and there was a real final showdown with doppelganger Lara and Natla where I could roundhouse kick her in the face and hit her with Mjolnir. As it stands though I'd struggle to give it more than an 8 or even a 7 to be honest. That final level is such a let down.

I hope Legacy of Atlantis is inspired by comfy LAU gameplay, and I hope one day they'll revisit the idea of the underwater temples/sunken treasure and expand on that majorly with an entire game of swimming and diving around islands, a drivable boat with lots of underwater temples to discover.

TRIII was the game that made my dad swear off gaming for good. It's a core memory of my childhood. My dad got stuck in a corner when turning Lara. He saved in that spot to come back to later with a clearer head, only to find he was not stuck in a no win situation. He'd been getting increasingly frustrated as he played through the game, and couldn't be bothered loading the last save and redoing an hour of play (it was on the Playstation). TRIII ended up being so painful that he fell out of love with gaming all together. The only time he played a game again was Guitar Hero 3 years later. So crazy that Tomb Raider, his favorite game series up to that point, was what filtered him from video games all together.

Is Lara under the effects of the Meteoritic Artifacts in TR3? I know that they cause others to go nutso, and shooting police and museum guards seems even too far for her, or is she always just that crazy? She even breaks into her own supposed employer's boat, shoots up the place, all to get a raft so she could use it to meet that employer. It doesn't make any sense.

I'm watching The Cradle of Life and holy shit this one is so much better. It's not great or anything, but the tone is far more authentic. It seems like someone in charge actually did some research on the game. The thing that really keeps it back is that totally tacked on romance. Otherwise I'm amazed how much more I'm enjoying this one
