>What the heck is this
/indie/ is the general for all indie games, such as A Hat in Time, Animal Well, Baba Is You, Balatro, Battle Brothers, Cave Story, Celeste, CrossCode, Cultist Simulator, Darkest Dungeon, Darkwood, Dead Cells, Disco Elysium, Environmental Station Alpha, FTL, Hades, Hollow Knight: Silksong, Hotline Miami, LISA, Lobotomy Corp, Loop Hero, Machinarium, Monster Train, Noita, Nuclear Throne, OFF, OneShot, Rain World, Shovel Knight, Slay the Spire, Starsector, Subnautica, Sunless Skies, The Witness, Void Stranger, etc., as well as other games that just don't fit in any other general such as Atelier, Pillars of Eternity, and Valkyria Chronicles. /jrpg/ is welcome. Idle, roguelite, shmup, 4x / RTS / city-builders, and RPGMaker games are cool too.

Mobile or consoles, Flash or Unity, freeware or early access. This place is a home for the indie game community and indie and obscure games that don't have a home. So be free to talk and share all your hidden gems, forgotten games and starving devs here.

>Can I talk about games that already have a general?
We mostly discuss games that are not popular enough for their own threads, however, all indie games are allowed. So talk about them if you want, but don't overdo it since you already have other generals for that.

Luna really breaks No-Skin in half. I read the dev saying she's intended to be kind of like a "God Mode" so you're not frustrated trying to find the final secrets, but it might have made more sense to not allow using her for the "prestige" difficulties, even though it is kind of like the last little extra thing you might do. Kind of like how Inscryption's Kaycee's Mod rebalances some of the more broken things.

I don't know if it's blind shitty luck or what, but I've been trying out random games I've gotten free with Prime over the years and THEY. KEEP. INVOLVING. DEAD/DOOMED. KIDS.

>The MC's sister was dead all along
>The MC was dead all along
>The weird boy is the aged up ghost of the MC's aborted fetus trapped in hell and also there's a dead girl that made her brother help her commit suicide to escape visions of the future/harassment from a cosmic horror.
>The MC's clone gets shot and the MC kills herself
>The MC's sister was dead all along (gets better through time fuckery). Also, there's an evil cult engaged in child sacrifice.
>The MC's ally is actually an immortal being that jumps from host to host, subsuming the personalities of his victims, and his sickly daughter will eventually have to be his next host or die
I've played 9 fucking random narrative games and it KEEPS FUCKING HAPPENING. Is the team picking games to give away doing this shit on purpose? This is getting demoralizing.

I'm playing kingdom hearts for the first time in about 20 years. I remember the game having hard as fuck bosses but that was a long time ago. Surely they won't cause me any problem now that I'm an adult. Yeah, no. It took me an hour to beat Riku on destiny island and about 40 minutes to beat the jungle's boss. And I was way overlevel and overequipped.

I wasn't even seeking out dark games, ffs. Hell the game with explicit horror elements are the least depressing ones. You undo your sister's death in the horror game and the immortal monster in the urban fantasy game at least implies he's got a sort of collective consciousness going on and isn't raising his daughter as a sacrifice but as a future part of himself.

Ya, something is going on with holy right now that no one can figure out. It just does way more damage then it seems like it should. I think there is a talent to reduce holy damage pretty early on the tree.
And walls do stack. When ever it says damage reduction its reducing the "damage rate" parameter which is just a final multiplier after damage formulas. All modifiers to that are multiplicative though. Maybe you didnt find them, but I know there are greatshields with like 80% damage reduction, so if you threw on a similar armor and some walls you'd be down to a few % of damage. Don't forget to buff the angels.
Looks like I was lv100 for tv, and 140 for the final boss. But this was almost 2 years ago on a completely different balance and on normal. Again, NG+ would be quicker and you could check the areas you missed and maybe even cosmic color, the super dungeon that persists between NG+ loops.

I forgot about this game until the newest December gameplay appeared on my feed. The mechanics are obviously just ripping off The Last of Us, but I'm impressed that it's made on Unity. The animations and cutscene transitions look surprisingly slick to me. It feels like all the technically impressive 3D indie games lately are on Unreal, which of course has drawbacks. What are some other standout Unity games?

Nip characters/radicals can be funny.

They're Chinese characters and in Chinese half of the character is meant to be a rough pronunciation aid. It doesn't help at all in Japanese since it only applies to 1 of the possible Chinese readings. It barely even helps in Chinese because it doesn't tell the tone at all.
You're pretty much kicking open doors with that since radicals haven't had any real meaning in a few thousand years. In fact in Chinese specifically, separate characters haven't had significant relation to each other in close to 2 thousand years. That's a pre-sanguo era remnant.
It's pretty much like if you looked at old ass Latin and Greek and said "HEY ISN'T IT WEIRD HOW HOMOPHOBIA MEANS FEAR OF SAMENESS????".

I'm surprise so few neo-retro games use modern hardware structure to recreate canned or underused ideas from the retro era. Nowadays, nothing would stop a game from implementing stop'n'swap, "lock-on technology" or other stupid ideas. It feels like the only games that use that kind of stuff are the same that did it 20 years ago. Big studios that read your "memory card" to unlock a skin or something for the new game. I mean, wouldn't it be a fun way for a sequel to an indie game to add an item that you have to collect in the first game that is then given to you and used in the second game? You can even update games very easily nowadays. Instead we get a modern banner on the main menu with "wishlist the sequel on steam" or some shit like that.

That's called etymology and semantics anon. No one really cares about radicals other than linguistic nerds, it's fairly common for Japanese to refer to Kanji components as radicals even though it's linguistically wrong. The Wikipedia page on semantic features gives a very good example of how things like that works in English so I'm just gonna copy it.
>A semantic feature is a component of the concept associated with a lexical item ('female' + 'performer' = 'actress'). More generally, it can also be a component of the concept associated with any grammatical unit, whether composed or not ('female' + 'performer' = 'the female performer' or 'the actress').
It's just a different interpretation of concepts you already know and use all the time without realizing it. I guess it's a bit interesting to learn about that but it's not exactly that special or unique.

Alright, that's good to know. I appreciate the advice.
My top shields give about ~40% damage resistance ;_;
>NG+ would be quicker and you could check the areas you missed
I'm sure this is good advice that I should take, but unfortunately, I am insane and categorically refuse. I'll hit NG+ after I win.
As an example of this, I ran into an enemy called "Placeholder 2" in a Poetry of Blood, which had no sprite, hit for 10k+ damage, and had something like 250k HP. I know it had roughly that much HP because Alex managed to dodge its instakill basic attacks long enough that its AI broke, and I proceeded to smack it for 300 (growing) damage for about 45 minutes irl. I thought its xp value might be as broken as its health. It wasn't. 25 gold and like 120 xp.

>>
>>553049479
Depends on the use case. Specific types of clay with both the right proportions of mineral-water-organics content and to an extent the right minerals as well is pretty important when it comes to anything involving firing. A lot of that is for high quality pottery and stuff though, I'm not sure how important as much of it is when the goal is "a mostly round thing that can hold some amount of water".

Are you mixing up clay and claystone? Clay can be found in large patches in soil don't go looking for it in the deserts. It can grow grass on top but it looks different than normal soil.
Also don't use the piss map. Fully colored map can help finding stuff on the surface easier. Clay appears sligtly discolored grass.

/worldconfig colorAccurateWorldmap true
You'll need to exit and load back your save for it to work.

this game is fucking amazing
per-level progression separate from equipment/weapon upgrades via power system so it doesn't feel stale and makes you think about which rooms to clear and when
enemy ai FUCKS on higher difficulties. smarter ships avoid and shoot down your traps, set up ambushes, prefire around corners and take advantage of ricochetting/clustering weapons. every enemy has unique ai and design except a few variations. enemy infighting and different factions
the strongest enemies are other desecrators on the same ship but with different equipment who can steal your loot
procedural secrets feel quite natural and are actually quite difficult but not impossible to find and levels are varied with different types of enviroments, styles, and underwater areas
a ton of different playstyles from a crazed flamethrower melee minespammer to a careful sniper who uses sentries for checking out new rooms
very good exploration pacing with how you have to light areas up/check around corners/look for secret telegraphs where you can make a ton of use of your utilities like the projectile camera or mines
amazingly polished and i never got lost or confused thanks to the map, despite the fact that a singular room can change gravity multiple times while you traverse it

I played Lorelei when it released and it's a far, far easier game, everyone can beat it if they set their mind to it. The only times I was stuck was because of a note I forgot to interact with and because I wrote the number one as "1" instead of "I" for a single puzzle.
Something not often mentioned about the game is its story which I found really touching/bittersweet once you get to the ending.
You do need to like puzzle game to enjoy it though.

I don't know why it took this long to figure out. I've look at the formulas a bunch of times but I guess I'm a dumbfuck.
Your defensive stat is supposed to reduce the attack power a 2nd time after the initial calculation, but it looks like the dev forgot a parentheses so the 2nd half of the formula actually divides your defense before it's applied to the attack power.
One of the holy aoe spells is (a.mdf * 30) - (b.mdf * 70) / (v[21] + b.mdf / v[21])
I think all the formulas are like this now, but I can't check atm. I'm curious why it's so noticeable on holy.

ancient greek famously known for their intolerance toward homosexuals
>>
>>553097709
Examining the ancient sources in general indicates that preference was controversial at best in greek society. Greek philosophers had much to say negatively regarding sexual relations between males. When it comes to greek mythology, it is almost exclusively associated with the explicitly debaucherous and malevolent satyrs.
It would be safe to say the ancient greeks shared what instinctually disgusted them with most humans. Them likely having higher proportions of heterosexuals among the general populace than modern western populations, one would assume the overwhelming majority of greek society would be at the very least off-put by homosexual intercourse.
Rather, it appears a strangely intense highlighting of fringe art pieces, statistical manipulation and intentional or accidental misinterpretation of words and passages has created a skewed image of ancient greek society regarding this topic in the public consciousness, similar to the historically incorrect understanding of the frequency of witch hunts and accompanying executions in pre-industrial europe.

I absolutely love the setting and the mapmode cat and mouse game but as great as they look, sound and feel, I'm not a fan of the realtime battles. Especially with how you fight all the enemies at once with one ship at a time. So having a bigger fleet just gives you the chance to outlast them.
I think in a perfect world the fleet encounters would be some sort of RTS battle

>>553156972
You can press F to pick the mode that repeats the last "floor".
And ironically, this tedious shit is why I like Vintage Story: crafting is actually as time-consuming as adventuring, so if you're playing with a bloke, you get to actually take your time crafting shit while your mate Paul's getting to meet the wildlife and pet a bear.
I could tell you so many stories...
>>
>>553156972
that's why I always say: Vintage Story is Minecraft but better, unless you're not part of the hyper specific target audience, then it's Minecraft but boring
>>553157567
Honestly I miss the magic of the first playthrough of figuring out the techtree and everything. Now I can get to metalworking in a couple of play-sessions if I wanted to. I've actually been mulling over doing a deliberately slow run though, one where I have to migrate every time advance to a new "age".
>crafting is actually as time-consuming as adventuring
Not only that I love that crafting has an actual space requirement. In Minecraft (at least when I played) you could do 100% of your crafting in a 2x2 shitbox + storage. So when you built a dedicated blacksmithy it was purely for aesthetic reasons. While in Vintage Story metalworking actually needs the space that can justify dedicating a whole room or building to it

And when I learned about charcoal making I was instantly sold on the game
>>553161593
I remember the very first gameplay I saw was some dude making a stone knife and I frankly just couldn't quite fathom it.
Also I think the first screenshot was some guy on /indie/ showing off his greenhouse and that was just so cool, that the game recognizes a certain type of room an adjusts the rules accordingly.
Though on that note I'm a little sad that the room-detection still seems kinda wonky. I think most of my builds all count as outside because of size, block usage or something else entirely

Here's a fun fact I remember from an extremely long time ago about neverland in kh1. The secret of the clock is coded in a very funny way. For whatever reason, it's not coded with a basic modulo operator but instead it follows a table. A 400 hours table to be exact. After that, the clock is broken and doesn't work anymore. No one would naturally see that in normal gameplay unless you play at speed 3 and try to grind level 100 on destiny island I guess.
I've been trying to post this for about 6 hours. I finished hollow bastion and the entire coliseum by now...

Some I like: Aeterna Noctis, Axiom Verge, Blasphemouses, Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, Carrion (haven't finished, I'm lost, should I try to finish it?), Crypt Custodian (and all of his other games), Dead Cells, Environmental Station Alpha (yes, I know), Flynn: Son of Crimson, Ghost Song, GRIME, Guacamelees, HAAK (LOVED HAAK), Haiku, Hollow Knight, Hyper Light Drifter, Iconoclasts, Lone Fungus, (not Lost Ruins, couldn't get into it), Necrosphere, Ori's, Phoenotopia Awakening (Loved), Prince of Persia TLC, Rainworld, Song of the Deep, Valfaris, VVVVVVVVVVVV, and Zapling Bygone.

Thanks nerds.

Beat rain world. Wonderful game.
Started a new run. I had started going to moon in the first place to eat one of her neurons, because while horrible, it meant I could traverse shaded citadel to get to pebbles in relative safety and with ease. As a rule I always bring smurfmom back one from pebbles, and it turns out she doesn't really have any more specific lines if you bring her more than a couple.

First game it took me 60 cycles and 16 hours to just get to the leg, second time around I made it in 15 and 2 hours. I activated a passage to gain karma to get through pebbles from the underhang,
then I've discovered that shelters were actually metaprogression. So I abandoned that save and tried to get get a nohurtmom any% speedrun, I simply powerwalked through the survivor and the monk in 10 cycles to get the 2 passages by just eating fruits, teleported to pebbles, got enlightened, ate one his neurons, swallowed one and then teleported back to moon. All requirements fulfilled in a fraction of the time.
I'll dick around with survivor a bit more before trying hunter seriously, the finer points of slugcat's movement elude me still. I was pleased to see that hunter doesn't actually get free teleports, it really feels like the game removes the training wheels after that.
I can't believe people somehow say that this game is bullshit, there's never anything that's impossible to traverse, there's essentially no backtracking since the game itself always spawns items in areas where you wouldn't be able to reach otherwise with a rudimentary knowledge of the movement system (i.e. spears near slopes even though you could make that jump if you knew how to manouver yourself better)
The only truly hard part I found was the wall->underhang, which is an optional route and tons of people reported about not knowing how to handle, but it's a skill check for a shortcut and chimney canopy is right there if you can't make it.

Play rain world.

VS has all the annoying parts of TFC (since it was inspired directly by that) in ways that you can't even automate without mods for the most part
if you dislike that kind of autism that's just a natural reaction, some people enjoy it, but most don't because it's objectively boring
you're going to eventually force yourself to think of it as one of those "cozy game" chores and force yourself to enjoy building things layer by layer or abandon the game

I remember it as a pretty short and casual, although fun, game (~8 hrs)? Just do a quick peek in some walkthrough to get you on the right path and put it in the cleared folder.
You've probably heard of most of these, but:
HONEST RECOMMENDATIONS
>Child of Light (charming and aesthetic)
>Valdis Story (JRPG-Hollow Knight)
>Aquaria (literal classic, boomer gaming at this point)
>Dex (awesome, if a little janky, and under the radar dark future m'vania with nice cyber customization)
>REDO! (short and sweet, great NG+, basically free on sales)
>Yoku's Island Express (brilliant gameplay, relaxing, casual and __FUN!__)
>Sundered (proc-gen'ed levels, so a minor roguelite element to it, but it's a pretty forgiving game, looks stylish and has a nice atmosphere to it amd won't outstay its welcome)
>seconding Afterimage, only chink game I've ever stomached. HUGE map and generally fun
MIGHT BE YOUR THING:
>8 Doors: Arum's Afterlife Adventure (very charming and fun game, a little visually bland though. fucking awesome if you know of the ol' Wraith: the Oblivion TTRPG)
>Unworthy (soulsvania, no jumping)
>Ghost 1.0 (I'm still not sure I really liked this, but it was interesting enough to do a full playthrough)

Salt & Sanctuary is one of the best games in the genre, hands down. The sequel is quite good too BUT! It's not the stellar game the first one was and it's more of a MHunter-with-platforming-exploran, some grindan involved, which might turn some people off or test their patience. It has a nice challenge to it though.

The Mummy Demastered is fun, it used to be too hard but they nerfed the difficulty a bit and I enjoyed my replay several years later MUCH more.

And that makes me think of Mystik Belle, the indie one-man project by Andrew Bado (one of the sprite artists for Mummy Demastered and many of the 2D Shantae games). I always shill it when I remember to. And I guess, if you somehow haven't played it, Shantae and the Pirate's Curse is excellent.

And when I say it used to be too hard, it was in a purely grindy way, like they massively increased the drop rate of health so you don't have to spend an hour grinding heals every time you get low. The rarity of health drops was so bad it almost felt like a glitch.

Babushka's Glitch Dungeon is maybe more just 2D puzzle platformer than proper Metroidvania but I loved it. Definitely recommend for the Baba is You likers. The aesthetics feel very Cave Story.

Keep in kind that the game is designed for restarts. Its impossible to even have all the possible monsters in the facility at the same time, if you want to complete the encyclopedia 100% you will need to start from scratch (from day 1) a few times to pick different abnos (quest progress and and info carries on), so it literally doesn't matter much if you fuck up in a "run".

Still, get used to restart days a lot and to grind stats.

/v/ was always shit, and the final nail in the coffin was when /vg/ was created because from then on there literally weren't any reason to discuss actual games on the board itself, as you'd get better on topic discussions on /vg/ for the game you wanted to talk about by going to its general. It's now basically a videogame themed /b/-lite that act as an introduction board to the rest of the site, its only redeeming quality is that since its a blue board, it isn't spammed with porn all the time.

Population collapse due to sudden lack of biscuits

>>553270634
It captures the basic appeal of citybuilding classics like Caesar 3 but the direct management of every worker, pacing of levels, and randomization makes it even more addictive and replayable. The DLC is fun but not really necessary, more like "if you've already played the game to death and want more race variety". Because of the "mix and match" way you satisfy the different populations, it doesn't fall into the trap of other city builders where every new map becomes the same slog of setting up the exact same production chains.

>unless you want to max out all wisdoms at once
Actually I was wondering if there are enough skills in the game to do that or not.

You can definitely put a skill at the top of each wisdom, but not all slots. I've got 14 empty slots left on my playthrough with most skills attuned but for a few stragglers.
However this is purely bragging rights. I don't know what might have been planned with wisdoms, but despite each journal having a wisdom associated and suggesting "You might begin with", its only purpose is to RP as Hokobald.

I think I might try a heavily imbalanced run where I always favor the starting soul cards and see what happens next though.

It's actually not at all similar to SS13. First of all the engine isn't BYOND, which means it's automatically infinitely better than SS13 could ever be. It's an FPS. The setting is sovietpunk misery, not generic space station. The sides are more like typical PVP factions and there isn't a heavy emphasis on roleplay, so it's not full of furry ERP and their retarded cliques.

Mel's fine enough as a protag, whatever - I just hate the ridiculous bullshit damage scaling for bosses and Typhon having, what, four fucking phases - in a game where damage is persistent between encounters, taking any bit of dumb damage is going to cost you later, and if you don't grab every last centaur heart you can find, you're donezo, it's not even funny. And Bosses getting invulnerability for however long at set thresholds throughout the fight really pisses me off, as does Prometheus' fucking insta-kill memory puzzle move that's done TWICE in the fucking fight.
Also, a lot of enemies, especially bosses ,don't telegraph for shit, which plays merry hell with the zoomed-out isometric perspective.
I want to love this game but fuck me running I hate some of the design decisions.
>>
>>553299489
Red Faction did.
And it didn't even dig that deep into the gameplay possibilities of it.

It's only Spengies that does dynamic terrain well these days. No Man's Sky would also have a pretty good terrain alteration system but it falls flat because terrain changes from most uploaded bases are lost and terrain changes outside player bases are never saved in the first place.

Seems like you fell for Communist propaganda. This is the problem of having only a surface understanding of Ancient Greece through memes, vibes and platitudes. Ancient Greece was harshly intolerant towards Homosexuality. Homosexuals were banned from holding any religious or political offices. They were regarded as unclean and even being known to associate regularly with them, would be enough to also be subjected to that ban.

The only thing that's difficult for people to grasp is the fact that in the 1960s left-wingers created a fake identity called Homosexuality, which they wanted to push on the gays. Before that we didn't call them homosexual or gay. These words were part of that propaganda. We called them Sodomites and Pederasts, because that is what accurately described their behavior. In Ancient Greece there words for them, which carry the EXACT same disgust, shame and aversion towards homosexuals as today, but it still follows the old view and definition of Homosexuality, not the modern Communist view.

It's not like the creative director of languages decides that we're in need of a homonym now. Languages evolve naturally and sometimes some funky shit happens and two words with completely different roots converge on the same spelling/pronounciation

>mfw just beat Labyrinth of the Demon King
Gonna go into NG+ immediately. Neat game, way too goddamn short, suffered from a severe lack of enemy variety, the combat wasn't too fleshed out (kicking is almost always pointless, light attack combos just get you smacked by a counter attack unless you outrange the enemy and most weapons are so slow to swing the enemy can parry you mid combo, counterattacks and strong attacks are the way to go, stamina regenerates so slowly you spend 90% of the game waiting for 1 point to regen so you can swing again), there's a bunch of redundant weapons with identical stats and animations that I can't see the point in existing, the final tower being 3 straight minutes of running up stairs was gay, the making macha tea minigame has weird hit detection where you have to be VERY precise with aiming on the tools or else your dude just stands up, armor doesn't seem to actually do anything or have any reason to be upgraded and the invincible enemy that hunts you for 90% of the game after you deface the Buddhist shrine was really fucking annoying, but otherwise it was cool.

I didn't understand the ending at all though, hoping NG+ explains more. The demon king talks like he was your lord and claims you broke your katana off in him. After you defeat him, his head turns into a weird dragon thing that attacks you and you suddenly wake up in the underground river at the start of the game, follow the river which is marked by random objects you encountered in the game like the shrines and bathhouse wheels, you find the Demon King's mask near the end, go into a white light and then wake up in a beautiful forest, which I guess is heaven?

I don't know, it felt like it was supposed to be some beeg tweest near the end but I just didn't comprehend what the fuck it was meant to imply at all. The only thing I can think of is the intro story is bullshit, your dude murdered his lord and went to hell for it.

Most of the DLC features are for the mid and lategame and you won't even have acces to them for quite a while and by the time you do you should have a decent grasp of the game.
I recommend throwing it in, it integrates into the main game quite well and nobody is forcing you to interact with the systems it adds until you feel like it.

>>
>>553351659
>It has a ton of vague obscure-sounding stuff
Yeah that's pretty much the whole series, lel. Make sure to read item descriptions and stuff, it helps a lot. But give you made it this far you've already got that part figured out I assusme.
Depending on how detailed you want to be "spoiled" on the Tree of Wisdoms feel free to stop reading here, but tl;dr on how it works:
Once you start acquiring skill, you can commit them to the card sots in the tree, each skill can only be committed once and higher level card slots will only accept higher level skill.
Committing skills gives you more Elements of the Soul cards.
Lastly, and this was the most confusing part for me, it's related to upgrading skill. If you use a skill to acquire an Element of the Soul, you can then use that skill once to upgrade that Element at an appropriate workstation. For example if you commit a skill to the Illumination-Wisdom and get a Wist out of it, you can put 2 Wist cards plus that skill into a Workstation with the "Evolution with Illumination" aspect to upgrade your Wist.
But all of that is explained in the tooltips for the relevant aspects, I just had a hard time wrapping my head around it all

There are some shenanigans you can do to optimize here, but I personally don't think it's necessary at all. This game is a lot more relaxed than CS (especially with the DLC) and the only way to lose is burning or throwing away your journal and the game will very explicitly warn you that that will soft lock you.

Any advice on what order I should be doing the superbosses?

I don't understand this game. I put the things where it told me to but it doesn't want to start.
>>
>>553382285
So each book will have an "element" that it's attuned to, which will be noted as its "Mystery". Everything else in the game also has an attunement. Check the popups when you have something selected in order to see the fine details. You need to add stuff to the other slots there in order to meet or exceed that element of the book. If you can find a desk, you should get more slots to work with. Just Considering things gives you like, three slots, which is often not enough. If you find a book with a Language requirement, you'll need to find that Language and learn it before you can read the book.

Read. Everything.
>>
>>553382994
I thought the Mastery/Mystery/Memory were the "elements" that the book itself had, not what they needed. Thanks.
>>
>>553384415
It is, but you need to meet that number in order to read the book. The book Mystery also comes into play later with another aspect of the game.
>>
>>553382285
It can be a bit hard to understand what the game wants from you at times. It always helps to read all the tooltips, but figuring this shit out is a big part of the game imo.
In this instance it's less about what the game "tells you to" put in there, it's moreso telling you what you're "allowed" to put in those slots, but if the combination you come up with is invalid, you won't be able to do anything.
In this specific case the important part is what it says in the hint
>I could add something to this journal... if I could lay my hands on a suitable ink
meaning what you're currently trying to do isn't possible, but it gives you a hint on what you could do instead.
It's kinda tricky to understand if you've never played this kind of game before (and honestly even if you had, the journal and what to do with it had me extremely confused too)
>>553384415
It's pretty much the properties that each item has, hover over them they often contain useful hints on what it means. They can be requirements (like "Mystery" or another mechanic later on), they can be a property like "Mastery" (i.e. you have successfully read this book once), "Readable" or "Memory", they can be stats the object or card gives you like Heart and Lantern.

You'll get the hang of it after a bit, don't worry

Doorkickers 2 added some new missions, including some from the first game.
The game is pretty nice to play once every few months though I prefer the smaller missions over the larger ones. Also it's funny how some you're often doing shit that in the real world would probably get a way larger team allocated to it, so you end up with stuff like this, where my plan relies on the fact that my guy is an absolute super soldier, able to hold down a doorway against 3-4 enemy elite commandos (which he does)

That's basically what food and items are for, aside from salons or restoring cards (with drinks). You actually could hold a salon in the gardens in spring, but you need food, drink, guests, etc.
>>
>>553459028
Salons are a DLC feature and are "intended" for the mid to lategame, though obviously nothing is stopping you form doing them whenever you feel like it, this is a pretty chill game in terms of letting you do everything at your own pace most of the time.
Food and items are useful for their stats: Boosting assistants, feeding guests during Salons and crafting mostly.

The basic idea is that helpers (whether hirelings or villagers) can help you open locked rooms, thus accessing more of the house, and rooms contain books, which you can master by scrounging more or less aspects via at least one soul card + other slots.

You've already figured out you can MASTER the journal and get lessons from it, which is unironically better than me my first time.

That's kind of the point. You're thrust in a world where you have no clue what's going on, your only progression is your level of skill in moving your character and knowledge of the map. Initially, the game didn't even have a tutorial level to show you the basics.
You're going to die over and over and over and over and over and you're going to learn a bit every time until you get decent.
It's not really a hard game, it's just part of the process.

what got me confused is that you can't start a picnic on the garden with only 1 guest and there are no slots for food, I just assumed the salon was another type of reunion on another room. I will try to invite someone else.

Also, didn't expect this game to have any points of no return. If I don't "act" upon a guest about a certain incident, because he was teaching me languages instead, there just no way to do it later? The incident doesn't come back later?
>>
>>553484989
Salons are a bit different than the usual gameplay and require some preparation to make happen. You need to invite guests in the appropriate season (can't do a tea party in the garden in Winter, for example). This takes Ink and their mailing address. Then, you need to have food and drink that matches their aspects. You don't actually slot the food in anywhere. Instead, you have it placed on the tables/surfaces of your chosen location. Once everything is together, you start the Salona and let everyone talk and eat. I think you can also serve extra food during, but I didn't mess much with them.

>Also, didn't expect this game to have any points of no return. If I don't "act" upon a guest about a certain incident, because he was teaching me languages instead, there just no way to do it later? The incident doesn't come back later?

The incident will stay until it's done. As for the characters, they'll leave until another one calls them back. If you help them you get a mailing address that you can use to call them back for lessons or whatnot.

Adding to what >>553486059 said, since I only recently figured out how to do Salons myself. The game will hold your hand through most of this. >>
>>553457859
Personally I found the fight against the captain and co harder because the bersekers hit like trucks and there is like 20 of them, in comparison Galahad is easy but ill admit his squires are a pain. But the worst is the guy at the end of the tutorial island because he insta kill you in one hit.

Well, I don't recommend it. I'm doing it with no Wist, Shapt, Ereb allowed, and it's quite troublesome. Initially I considered doing it with only the starting cards allowed (Revolutionary is Mettle, Fet, Trist and Health), but it's already restrictive to have no winter or knock at all on soul cards, if I lop off lantern, sky, and grail as well it'd be way too much.

I genuinely, utterly and unironically hate this particular series of jumps.
You need a squidcada (unless you know how to throw a spear under you, which I can't do reliably yet) and that's not that really the problem, the issue is the screen DOES NOT FUCKING UPDATE so you literally cannot see your character when he's in mid air to jump. It's a literal leap of faith, over a fall that's certain death. You literally have to do it by ear.
I know it's a shortcut, but the alternative route is much worse because it requires you to circumnavigate this entire thing instead of doing those 3 jumps.
I am just baffled that nobody even bothered to make a mod to patch the view so the jumps wouldn't be a literal vibe check.

The problem is that melee is "the default" option. So, sure, it looks good when you dodge, parry and counter, but then you meet a bloke that uses magic, and then you're at a disadvantage.

Maybe its a skill issue on my part, but I think its too annoying. For notoriety, for example, I always used a follower get rid of it, but there is some rng involved and if it fails, it creates even more notoriety, so it takes even longer to solve the issue.

I just found myself stalling all the time to deal with these things, before doing the actual fun things, like exploring or summoning.

Finally.
God damn, I had to +++ my Trist but I got the 15 Winter/Moon roadblock starting from 0 with my pal the blacksmith, and still holding to no Wist/Ereb/Shapt cards. So glad I wrote down every single skill that gives Trist.
Unfortunate that winter can't hit more than 14 without a soul card.
Yes, I could have done it by hiring the winter fisherman (+2 moon), or Mr. Kille (2 winter) for a shilling (who also takes Yew wood, that gives +1 winter), or accepting the Wist you get from curating the busts. But now I can just finish restoring the house and peacing the fuck out of this run.
Now all that's left is Grail and Knock, both completely doable even without a soul card, or edge, also very doable.

They 110% nailed the setting, atmosphere, and visual style. I think they even had access to notes from the original editor of the film. They bring out the unused themes from the original score and it works really well.

But it's honestly not that scary once you figure out how rigged the AI actually is, and the writing is garbage.

Maybe I'll give it a shot sometime, I do love the Alien setting and exploring it virtually sounds amazing.

I did like my setup I found in the main frame so I enjoying using it more. Martyr tank + Optimize just keeps your whole party alive forever while the enemy slowly kills themself. And then you stab with the 3rd. Not the fastest setup but really safe unless you get the mod that puts a 50% chance on every status inflict to inflict the opposite instead.
Plus I found the mod that doubles healing and gives shield which makes the setup even better.

Mercenary "simulator". It's a open world tactics RPG were you create and manage a band of mercs roaming the countryside, murdering anything that's on two legs (and sometimes four) on sight.
The story lines are pretty shallow so you might want to stick to four niggas in a rows if that's a problem for you.
Some features are also a bit underwhelming, like capturing which is usually not worth your time with humans unless you want to make a quick buck. Enemy exclusive classes are less useful than player classes most of the time. You can also capture animals, but you have to build your party around them.

This is huge misconception. The game is built around a adaptive difficulty mode so building huge army fast is a really bad idea unless you really know what you're doing. There's also a set level difficulty mode, but that was made to placate people who didn't like the default mode and it's not properly balanced.

Ftfy, it's basically casinos aimed at kids and horny idiots that get a free pass because its technically "video games", you can be sure shills are the main posters. Also its why they keep track of them using numbers as it make managing the payroll easier, ie "today I posted from 8 am to 6pm in thread 1739 to 1743". Like there is literally no other reason of keeping track of thread numbers otherwise. One could argue its to make searching the archive easier but lets be real, gachaslop do not have posts worth tracking back in the archive.

Hint for the hidden messages visible with magnifying glass on the tutorial note in the Nook

But what do the maids and cooks have to do with anything? There's even arrows pointing them out on the first page of the manuscript. I feel stupid.

Also am I insane or is there a hidden message in the crossed-out or replacement words in the manuscript? Something like "find two nobody checked" and "evidence if over-due"; something about the library checkout records? Am I cuckoo two? I know I've created nonsense clues by accident before that sent me on wild goose chases.

It doesn't, wxwidgets is a modern third-party multi-platform GUI framework.

According to the dev it uses microsoft winforms:
>Using the business tools of Visual Basic, .Net and Windows forms
You know, the API that was used to make literally every windows program GUI from mspaint to utorrent and from notepad to excel, before microsoft started pushing gay shit like UWP?

It's a quite unique game but it doesn't have adaptive difficulty. You can be good/bad at game and it does nothing to adapt to your skill. AI Progress is more like, well, a progression system.
It just has a different meta from most RTS games. Expansion bad gorilla warfare gud.

>>553747518
Whatever, UWP is already deprecated and it was just an attempt to get people to use windows store.
UWP lived for a grand total of one (1) windows version, meanwhile native winforms GUIs have been steadily supported since forever.
WinUI 3 is also shit compared to winforms or WPF, so winforms is going nowhere as long as microsoft keeps making new stuff that's just plain worse.

I'm with you though, I'm all for more slice of life type RPGs. I loved that about KCD and wish more games would copy it. I loved RPing as just some dude living in Night City between missions in Cyberpunk. Even as far back as GTA IV I never went on big murder rampages in the sandbox but instead played out Nico's life.
Whenever I play KCD, it makes me wish for a game that's like that, but set in and around a city the size of something like Witcher 3 Novigrad. And you're just some blacksmith's apprentice or merchant or whatever and most of the game is just interacting with people and making a living, while working your way up in the world

It's designed to keep games challenging for a range of skill levels so that you don't get bored while still progressing at a good pace. It is NOT designed to wall you out or make you push your limits. Games that use difficulty as a challenge to be overcome will either have fixed difficulty settings or none at all. Adaptive difficulty is a different tool for a different job.

neat
I think having fun is the most important part of it, everything else is secondary.
When I was younger I wanted to learn to draw, but after while I realized that I didn't want to to learn to draw, I actually wanted to be good at drawing. So I just went through the motions, expecting that the enjoyment would come eventually once I'm good enough.
Though I did do some watercolor sketches last year, those were a lot of fun

I guess I'll be the one to say they are and I get exactly why steam is recomending those.
Those are both screenshot simulator games. They have simplistic core mechanics you can learn and succeed with, with more complex mechanics locked behind a grind you largely don't need to care about. They both boil down to a lot of repetitive, rote actions even if you choose the "complex" (read: actually simple, just with more steps) systems. Both also allow you to make "your dudes".
This combination makes them popular with people who want time sinks where they can take screenshots or talk about their adventures with "their dudes", even though its near or actually identical to any other run. They may choose to max X stat this time, go topless or whatever, but it still just boils down to having X solution to Y problem and anything else done is making the game more complex for yourself just because you can.
Elona, Zomboid, Kenshi and Rimworld all fall under the same basic category and I wouldn't be surprised if it recomended Ellin or Rimworld to you if you played any of the above games.

'Solo viable' my ass, even a party of 5 just straight up die. Yeah, Inscryption is one of my favorites. I never really knew where it was going next. I agree about act 3 dragging a bit but that was a minor blemish I suppose. I am just sad there was never a DLC that let you properly play the game as controlled by Grimora or Magnificus since the glimpse we got of that in the finale were fun.
>>
>>553874689
Yes, that's where the bolster settings are.
Looking at MAW's readme, it's apparently supposed to drop enemy damage and health by 40% compared to default, so I was wrong. But either that doesn't work, or it doesn't affect already-spawned monsters (meaning, the world you start with), because 9 damage is ~1/6 of a goblin's health in both difficulties.

Well I finished Roottreemania last night and I regret it.
Not that I finished it, but that I didn't wait a until today.
It was getting late and I was too tired to make connections, but I was at the final stretch and I really wanted to finish it, so I had to use hints to get all the missing evidence wrap up the game.
Most annoyingly I didn't even need that evidence. I had more than enough to intuit the answers, they were just extra confirmation.
I played the itch.io version of Roottrees are Dead a couple of years ago and I found that it's pretty replayable. The sheer amount of articles and names are hard to remember over the years, so even if I vaguely recall the story and the final mystery, it doesn't really help with the game.
In the expansion however the final conclusion is more important and probably going to be harder to forget, so I can't really play again "fresh".

>>
Playing some RDR2 made me remember how weird Rockstar games are.
Wandering around the open world and just immersing yourself in the setting is amazing. I know few games that did this kind of thing well and I could slow walk around the environment forever.
But as soon as you start a mission it's little more than an interactive movie. Hell there sometimes it straight up takes control away from you completely. Just did a mission where you and your buddies hide in a barn and control stripped is stripped for several minutes while your guy sits in hiding. Which is doubly weird since at the end of the scene you get caught anyways so why not at least give the player the option to move around and get caught earlier.
I swear this is in the same vein as bossfights where losing gives you a game-over and winning gives you a cutscene where you lose. That's such basic level shit that could actually make use of what makes games unique as a medium

The character is called Hugo but it wasn't spic enough, Naranja just means orange in spic. In DBZ you have characters with various forms identified by their color. The form with color being stronger than the base form.
Abuela is grandma, yeah the madre is her kid.

It's strange and it feels like a product of team division. Like they have one team making the "cinematic story" and a different team making the open world.

The story is exactly why I could never play that game again. The imsim-like elements are great, I wish the whole game was shit like that. But it's slop made for the lowest common denominator American.
>>
>>553932605
How do semantic versioning work for early access?
>>
>>553936794
Same as released. First number is the major version, which is 0 because it's not released yet. Second number is the minor version, which can be literally any number. Numbers after that are increasingly minor versions.
If you do nothing except release big milestone patch after milestone patch, it'll go
>0.7.0
>0.8.0
>0.9.0
>0.10.0
>0.11.0
etc
If you release smaller updates between, the rightmost number increments
>0.11.1 (added a couple new enemies or something)
>0.11.2 (added a new gun)
>0.11.2.1 (fixed a bug with the new gun
>0.11.3 (added a new building
>0.12.0 (new gameplay system, new level, rebalanced a bunch of other stuff)
>0.12.1 (added some new enemies to the latest level)
When they go to 1.0 is completely arbitrary. It's just whenever the devs think the game is done enough to be fully released. In a linear game that means the story is probably done.

>Any pro-gamers tip

Seek orbs of knowledge, they unlock new spells the first time you get them and afterward they get added to the loot table permanently. Also dont worry too much about not being able to go back up, tgere are plenty of means to do so, just gotta find them.
>>
>>553918609
>it keeps getting worse
does it? I'm not keeping up to date with them, I feel like it's always been that bad desu. I've been complaining about games being interactive movies ever since playing CoD 6 for the first time.
>>553935687
Yeah that's so jarring. It's impressive how much attention to detail there is in the game in the way you can interact with the world and how characters respond to stuff you did I know it's all smoke and mirrors, but an impressive high effort illusion is still impressive
But there are two early scenes in particular that stand out to me. One is where a drunk stumbles on a railway bridge and the game forbade me to rescue him with the lasso that the game just recently taught me how to use.
The other was one of the bounty missions, where a female serial killer seduces a man to kill him at their picnic. And there is no way to save the guy, because you have to the woman bring in alive. But if you try to Lasso her, before she stabs him (even if you do it at the last possible moment, where she has the knife out and lunges towards him) he will attack you to defend her.
That last one is especially baffling, because there is so much effort put into little details in the game, I can't imagine it would have been too much work to code in a little time window during which he doesn't aggro, have him say a little line about how you saved him and run off.

I think after enough time I could probably still replay the game but it would probably appeal to the movie-part of my brain more than the game-part.

There aren't any rules. It can be anything.

If the first number changes, your save is not expected to work.
If the second number changes, there may be content changes.
Third number is bug fixes or number tweaks.

One of the best turn-based tactical medieval combat games to have ever existed.
It is so good that I'm hype for the dev's next game, even if I intellectually know that it will disappoint me.
Battel Brothers is even better with the Legends mod, but I advise "wining" at least one crisis(end game events) in vanilla.

Hmmm 2D. I was hoping for something that actually has 3 dimensions. I feel like that's half the point of a space game. Otherwise it might as well be a boat game.

Lead 20 men into battle, return with 10 on a good day
Hunt bandits for fun and occasionally profit
Have half your army charmed by an ugly hag disguising herself as a fair maiden. Have your crossbowman kill her because he's too brain damaged to know what boobs are
Kill lots of zombies. Holy shit that's a lot of zombies
Experience the Nachzehrer Cascade
Kill even more zombies, but they're arabian this time
Think you're hot shit and start taking on tougher battles. Get reminded that you are cold shit
Try other origins to see what their gameplay is like. Get stuck in restartitis for 20 hours as a result
Learn that the orcs from Warhammer are actually very fucking terrifying when you aren't a protagonist
Download mods and get stuck in restartitis for another 20 hours
Everything wants to kill you. Prosper despite that
Deck your bros out in the finest armor in the land. They'll look good when they get vored

I was recommended Jet Set Radio but there is no way to play the game without pirating it or buying an original copy. I however found this on itch.io and I was wondering if its worth playing compared to the original?

>Good amount of mods?
Legends have more content than you will be able to play in a year. And has lots of addons/submods.
>DLC worth it?
Yes, they are needed for Legends.
>Build variety?
Sword and shield, two hand sword, axe and shield, shield and spear, bow and crossbow. Those are some of the ones I use more.
>Spears useful the entire game?
Yes, but in limited quantities and you need to have powerful dedicated damage dealers.
>>
>>553960204
The devs are actually super chill, they said they don't mind if you pirate the game but that they'd prefer that you buy it if you like it and they give away older updates away as free for demos. So if you don't care about being on the cutting edge and a couple versions behind you can get the whole game for free on their website.
They also sent a dude an email when he bought two copies just to make sure that he meant to buy two copies.

The last 50 hours or so of Blue Prince are going nowhere fast. I might need a nudge from someone. I have 7 letters found and all 8 door puzzles solved, but I feel like I've hit a hard stop. I've been grinding the secret constellation, the Blue Tents hints, Treasure Trove Hints, and Announcement Board hints, but every time I get a new hint it's for something I already solved. The big thing I'm stuck on is "castling". After the latest Treasure Trove hint was finally relevant to something I haven't done, I grinded runs until I could get a rook room and a king room on either side of the boiler room and tried switching power between the two, but nothing happened. I pieced together the CASTLE riddle a long time ago but I assume it's useless for now. Am I on the right track at all? I've tried so many things with the king and rook rooms that I'm getting sick of the game.

Sparcebourne 2, during the main story you get the opportunity to give your faction an unique type of ship and its pretty good, kinda blocky but it has like 7 weapon points or something and there is a type of turret that is basically a laser minigun.

It looks like a nice game, too. but I'm really looking more for something in full 3D. I'll keep it in mind for when I want to play a 2D game in the future.
